Great experience from start to finish. That live fire smell hits you at the entrance of this good looking restaurant in kennebunk. We were seated in the main dining room,there's also outdoor seating in high season,and additional bar seating. Mexican street corn was a great first bite before our mains. We shared the skirt steak which was the perfect medium rare with tons of flavor!(just salt and pepper seasoned) Giannino chicken, basically chicken under a brick was tasty also. Best creamed spinach ever. Garlic and salt fries,yum. Finished with croissant bread pudding And espresso's. Perfect. Plan ahead,it is very popular so reservations are a must. read more

Highly recommended by a coworker, my wife and I were very excited to go for our anniversary. To start, the atmosphere is nice, seating is comfortable and the staff were great. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so decided on the mixed grill for 2, with mashed potatoes and fires on the side. We started with the focaccia bread and oil dressing that were very good. We also got the enchiladas, one spicy cheese and the other beef. These were okay, nothing crazy but enjoyable. However, the mixed grill was simply not worth the money. The sausage was over cooked, strip steak flavorless and the long short ribs were tough. The chicken was okay, but nothing better than anywhere else I've had grilled chicken before. Our waitress Jennifer was amazing. And when she asked how our experience was, she could see by the lack of food we had eaten, and the expression on my face, we were not impressed. We ended our meal with the tres leches cake that was very good. Overall, this place is a gimmicky tourist trap that over charges for their "atmosphere" and prays you get drunk off their $250 wine before you order. For our 56 th wedding anniversary we decided instead of Portsmouth and York's fine restaurants we would try the Kennebunkport area . We chose the Lost Fire which was a great decision. After driving 40 minutes we arrived 10 minutes early as they don't open until 430; no problem ,they saw us in the parking lot and waved us in. Unusual as most places guard the door to the second. They sat us immediately, and introduced us to our server Alyssa ,who turned out to be the most knowledgeable , professional person we have ever met. And we have been dining out and working in the industry for many years! The fun began; my wife ordered her Filet Mignon and I asked Alyssa what she recommended , shocking me she said The Skirt Steak with marbled potatoes with the empanadas as an appetizer. I was certain she would have said the Porterhouse or Tomahawk to upsell us but she was spot on as it was incredibly tender and flavorful . The greenbean salad was way too salty, as was my house salad. Think it was the dressing. The mash potatoes were kinda hard, dry & a bit cool. Think the dish was pre-made and warmed. The skirt steak was to be medium rare but was closer to rare and, again, only warm thus making it hard to cut/chew. Loved the empanada. Warm, flavorful w/dough crisp. Wife enjoyed the wine. Cost was reasonable but we stayed at the lower end of the menu. Hopefully the big spenders felt it was worth it. We eat out often via traveling & the great restaurants at home Asheville NC. The food was amazing- especially the empanadas and the meat selection! You can also order every drink as a mocktail which is nice. The ambiance is beautiful, tastefully dark and a little sexy. The waiter and waitress we had (I believe her name is Natya- I know she is from Albania but I didn't get the spelling of her name) was top notch. We had a pretty loud and needy-ish crew of 12 for a bachelorette party. Needless to say, we were a lot to handle and she was EXCELLENT. As someone who has served and bartended, kudos to her. Even when I was walking in and out (we were in the outside area), the waiter RAN to open the doors for me. I mean, just look at the tomahawk. Easily one of the best cuts of meat I had ordered ever. Lost Fire has lost its way! We've eaten here six or seven times over the last five years, and each time it has been less and less satisfying. Tonight was especially bad. Service was friendly and attentive, but we felt VERY rushed by our server. Not what you want when you're paying premium prices for a high-end dining experience. The steaks were especially bad. Very thin cuts that seemed to be cooked via sous vide with little evidence that they ever touched a wood fired grill (no char at all), and they were served luke warm. We had the empanada appetizer, which for $18 consisted of two tiny empanadas, a huge disappointment. I highly doubt we'll be coming back, especially with so many excellent options close by in Biddeford (if you haven't been to Magnus on Water, definitely do so). read more

When in Southern Maine, make this dining experience a stop. Pro tip, when planning that stop, make reservations, do not try to do a walk-in (we went on a Sunday night and they were packed - so grateful for reservations. For a started, I would suggest the grilled provolone. My wife had the shrimp with a butternut squash side and I got the NY Strip with creamed spinach. We finished with Blueberry Gelato. Initially we thought the ambiance was nice, but the acoustics are terrible - very loud. There was a young boy several tables over who needed to use his inside voice as we could hear every word as if he was right next to us (and still loud). Our waitress was ok, but her "okey dokey" responses were a bit off for this type of restaurant. The food was ok, nothing amazing. I've never had such a perfectly cooked filet in my life. The garlic mash was good but I really wish I opted for the smoked, roasted baby potatoes because those are the real star. First off, I have been to some of the best barbecue/steakhouses in the USA, and this one maybe is / if not the best I have been too. Definitely in my top 10. Unlike most high end steakhouse restaurants, this one has a more casual relaxed romantic feel inside and out. The setting is romantic and it is located off the map slightly north of kennebunkport Maine. Think in the woods feel and setting. The restaurant decor is unlike any place I have ever been. I made my online reservation 1 month in advance so you know. The parking lot was completely filled when we drove up. The service to start was something I have never experienced before. We were celebrating a special occasion and they put us in a private table location. Jennifer was our waitress and I have to say in this review that she was probably one of the best / fun waitresses I have ever had at a restaurant. Thank u so much for the laughs and experience. Your amazing! The food was literally perfect! /yes I said that, everything served was amazing. Please. Can I be lucky enough to go there again? Mail order. lol. Not possible....... Maybe another trip across the country someday.... lol. Would've been nice to meet the chef. Ok, now for the amazing food review. The Lost Fire was truly an unforgettable dining experience! The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful inside--warm, inviting, and full of character. Our waiter was incredible and made the night even more special. We're from Omaha, NE (so we know our steaks!), and since we arrived a bit early, he actually took the time to show us the cuts before we ordered. Such amazing service and such a kind, genuine person! The food was outstanding--perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. You can really tell the care and craftsmanship that goes into every dish. I'm a little unimpressed based on all the hype and great reviews. We had a table outside on a warm day, and the setting was very nice. It felt a little pretentious, though, and not very family friendly. They don't have a kids menu, and instead recommend you order appetizers for kids. That's fine for my son, but I can see others having trouble with it. We ordered a couple of steaks (a NY strip and filet mignon) as we'll as sides of garlic mash, fries and creamed spinach. The NY strip was good at medium, but the chef absolutely torched my filet. There wasn't a shade of pink in it, when I had asked for it medium rare. I pointed this out to the server, who was nice enough to show the manager and have it remade. The second go at it was tasty, but really nothing special. Unfortunate for a $60+ cut of meat. The garlic mashed potatoes were very good, as was the creamed spinach. My son got the empanadas on the server's recommendation and really liked them. The ambience here is great, but the food was really only so-so for $60+ per head. read more

The Lost Fire is superb! First, the space is large with lots of different spaces - bar area, dining-room area, various private and semi-private spaces, and a beautiful outdoor patio space - to enjoy the stellar food. The space is a special blend of charming rustic farmhouse, yet classy modern-vibe. Our server, Andy, was friendly, attentive, and gave us great advice on what to order. He made us felt taken care of, and even took a the time to take a good photo for the family (he strategically used the table lamp to get the right lighting for the photo - he's that good!!!). Of course, the show stopper was the food. Everything we ordered was five-stars. After you order, they bring out fresh, fluffy bread with two delicious dipping options, including a delightful chimichurri. We ordered empanadas, one beef and one spinach/mushroom, as our starter. The beef empanada was the best I've ever had. As an entree, I went rogue and didn't order steak. Instead, I ordered the burger, which was exactly what I had hoped for. The burger came with fries that my father-in-law described as the best he had ever had. I also ordered a signed of tasty charred broccolini - yum, yum! Everyone else ordered the steak. My husband got their special, which was bacon wrapped - it was excellent. My mother-in-law got the fillet, which was tender and perfect, and my father-in-law got the rib-eye with a bone, which he said was the best steak he'd ever had. Even the sides were exceptional, the garlic mashed potatoes were perfection and the creamy spinach tasted like spinach-artichoke dip (yum, yum!). We enjoyed all of the above with the smoothest Malbac - Saurus Select Malbec Patagonia 2022 - I had ever had. We ended the night splitting the fabulous tres leches cake. We reserved a table at The Lost Fire upon the recommendation of my brother and his wife. They ate here last year. We settled on having our anniversary dinner here on July 3rd. Our anniversary is the 4th, but many things are closed and we wanted to dine here. The interior is SO well done with a couple of private dining rooms available. Just a super vibe here. Andy, our waiter, was magnificent!! I would highly recommend that you request him. He timed everything perfectly and we were never rushed nor wanting for anything. Andy suggested the Elote appetizer which was a special that night. Our favorite restaurant in the country is Elote in Sedona, so we took that as a sign and ordered it. It was delicious! He also offered us the beef special of the evening, which was a A5 Australian Wagyu (my favorite type of beef) Tomahawk Ribeye. We ordered it medium so the fat was able to render. We usually order our steaks medium rare, but a nice ribeye is best enjoyed at medium. Andy agreed. It was really delicious!! We also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes and they were fine. They gave us two dipping sauces for the steak, which were both fantastic!! I also enjoyed the creamed spinach. For a couple of decades that dish at Stubbs in Austin was my favorite, but The Lost Fire's creamed spinach (served in a crock) tops the list now. WOW!! Chef uses his grandmother's recipe for bread pudding so we tried that and loved it! It's made with croissants. Just amazing. This place is a true gem. Mainers are lucky to have it. This is my third time to this restaurant but first time sitting outside in the lovely outdoor garden space. There are plenty of tables, a fire pit, a swing and everyone is so pleasant. We came here because one of our guests didn't eat fish or chicken and what better place than lost Fire. Lost Fire really is a steak and meat restaurant. On a recent visit to the area, we were intrigued by The Lost Fire's concept, so had a weeknight dinner there with friends. We were mostly disappointed. VIBE: The rustic, woody dining room was dim and noisy. On the plus side, each table had a petite battery lamp with a shade, so the light illuminated the tabletop without glaring in my eyes the way candles do. SERVICE: The staff was cordial. Our server was helpful, although not as available as they might have been when it came to checking for and delivering drink reorders. Food pacing was fine. FOOD: Oddly, I couldn't find a menu on their website. Portions were quite large (we all prefer smaller portions) and rather pricey. I liked a palm hearts salad, as did others. My skirt steak was OK, meaty & chewy, but with little or no chimichurri. rOne diner enjoyed the chorizo plate, and others agreed. One person was disappointed by the lamb skewers, which were not chunks of lamb, as hoped, but rather a bland kefteh. Another person had a tuna special they described as chewy and not good. There is a nice selection of mostly Argentine wines by the glass. Talking it over after dinner, the consensus was that overall the food wasn't worth what paid for, and that we weren't inclined to return. read more

Just heard about this place few days ago and to be honest I'm quite skeptical because this person said it's the best steak he ever had in the whole world. Quite big word right? But alas, I decided to try on my birthday because why not ? U have to make reservation, and because it last minute booking, I only can book seat by the bar. Got bread and 2 dipping sauce, the chimi Curri is on point. Ordered sweetbreads ( has no bread in it haha ) and blood sausage. Perfection ! Tender well seasoned. I Can't decide between tomahawk ($185) or Cowboy steak ($165) but decided to ordered this 2 pound of steak medium rare. It's rare near the bone but of course it because it's near the bone. For side dish I ordered creamed spinach and fries with garlic and parsleys. Worth every penny, and obviously can't finished the steak and have to pack it to go. It's a lot of food. read more

Visited on 8-1-24. I've been vacationing in the area for a week every summer for quite a few years now, but this was my first time dining here. A local recommended trying this steakhouse. The service was fantastic. I believe Mark was our waiter and he was a hard working young man who had a friendly disposition and was very helpful with offering suggestions on certain menu items. We were a party of 6 and we tried quite a few menu items. For starters, we ordered a sausage trio appetizer along with some Mexican street corn and an empanada sampler. Street corn was excellent, but a pretty small portion. Sausage trio had a mix of chorizo, provolone and I believe Italian fennel. They were all very tasty. Empanadas were baked (not fried). Southwest chicken, beef and spinach. All were pretty good although the spinach was a bit bland. The bread basket that came was good as well, and it was served with 2 different sides of sauces. The Chimichurri was awesome and the pepper relish was off the charts good. I highly recommend asking for an additional side of both and dipping your steak in it......it was a terrific flavor booster. For entrees we ordered a filet mignon which was a perfectly cooked medium rare and was exceptional. Porterhouse and T-bones were charred nicely on the outside and perfectly medium on the inside. A standout menu item was a meat assortment platter for two. It had the 3 sausages listed above, blood sausage (which really wasn't my thing), a short rib, sweetbreads (that we actually omitted) and got a piece of strip steak in it's place, skirt steak and a flattened and seared half chicken. I was pretty impressed with all the items, especially the chicken. Everything was tender and juicy and. it's everything you'd expect from a nice steakhouse. The sides were good, but not great. Broccolini and garlic mashed potatoes were better than the creamed spinach and Mediterranean salad. My only real complaint came from our seating. We had reservations for 6 people inside the restaurant. And it did look very nice inside Upon arrival though, we were informed that we had to sit outside (which I don't like, especially when dining in a nicer restaurant). It was pretty hot and humid and most times would be a deal breaker for me, but the others I was with talked me into giving it a try anyway. The outside was set up nice and had an overhang to shield from the hot sun. I still wasn't happy about sitting outside, but I made the best of it. We were all too full to indulge in dessert, which by the way looked fantastic. Maybe next time I guess. It was a very pleasant meal and the cocktails were great as well. It is definitely is on the pricey side and I wouldn't recommend coming here with young children, especially if they don't appreciate different cuts of steak. I'm probably going to work this place into my dining rotation from now on when vacationing in the area. But next time......I'm sitting inside! read more

The Lost Fire is a pretty popular place and for good reason. Even if you want to sit at the bar, you'll need to make a reservation. Patio seating is located by the parking lot in the back of the restaurant. If your seats are on the patio, you can go directly there to check-in. If you accidently end up at the front entrance inside the restaurant, they will politely route you back to the patio. Additionally, there is ample parking in the back, so you should be able to find a place to park. I arrived on time for my reservation, but had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. The lobby is really nice with deep, comfortable couches, so it wasn't an issue that I had to wait. Sitting at the bar gives you a view of the open kitchen along with four TVs to watch. During my visit three of the four TVs were showing women's sports, so I thought that was pretty cool. I ordered the beef empanadas ($14) and the crispy brussels sprouts special ($16). The brussels sprouts were excellent. Some of the best I've ever had. I tried a cocktail that was a twist on a French 75. Cocktails are $14. The food came out super fast and the bartenders were very attentive. read more

This was our first time dining at the lost fire. We reserved a table for two outside and had absolutely gorgeous weather. We were sat immediately at the time of our reservation and the waitstaff (Dave!) and management were extremely attentive. Our water glasses were constantly refilled. Our entire dining experience was approximately 45 minutes from start to finish (they were fast!) Our meals came out quickly and were absolutely divine. I got the salmon and roasted broccolini and my husband got the short rib and mashed potatoes. The short rib was actually an enormous portion and every bite fell apart with the fork. It was incredible. My salmon was expertly cooked and had great flavor. We were not drinking during this visit so I can't speak to the drinks but they looked beautiful being served to others.
