Each hairdresser is specialized with a different curl pattern, and they know how to professionally cut and color hair very nice nicely. The vibe is really chill and they go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable with food, drink, magazines, water, etc. Last but not least, shout out to My favorite stylist, Ceci! I'm honestly so impressed with this salon!! I've been a huge fan of the curl Doctor for a while. So I decided to treat myself for my birthday to get my first curl by curl haircut! However, when I made the appointment, it was with another stylist named Capella! Unfortunately, I was under the impression that I had an appointment at the Capella salon with the curl Dr himself. Needless to say I was a little annoyed when I walked in. However, as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a friendly face who made me feel so at ease. Capella explained all the steps to take to achieve the perfect curls. She really took her time to nurture and love on my curls! Side note: Her chair was so comfortable too! For a men's haircut, Camille is the best. I've lived all throughout LA, have tried many barbers, and still to this day she's the best to cut my hair. She's perfected my haircut, is extremely consistent, and great at providing feedback and suggestions. Above and beyond the cut, she's a joy to talk to. I've been here 3 times in the last couple of years. I've seen Tasha twice and Jazmin once. This place is fantastic and so are the stylists. One of those salons where you can go in, spend 3 hours (yes, 3 hours) for a curl by curl cut with a curly specialist and come out with exactly what you want. I don't remember much of my experience with Tasha, but my most recent experience with Jazmin was amazing. We went over what I wanted in a cut and how I pictured myself with it. Went over what photos I had, and we finalized it by searching for more photos and then agreeing with what I wanted. Jazmin cut off a little at first, then after the wash, deep condition and style, she cut off significantly more as she wanted it to be exactly how I want it! Which was fantastic! She asked how I felt throughout the entire cut to ensure I was getting what I wanted, and even made sure to clip some hairs off that were out of place. So I've been wanting to come to this salon for well over five years now. But I knew I didn't want to spend the money unless I knew I would be willing to commit to not straightening my hair. After a year of quarantine, I decided to take the plunge. I didn't have a stylist in mind, so I booked with one with the next opening. They require a $75 dollar deposit upon booking, but it goes towards your final payment. Just know before your appointment you need to wash, condition and have your hair fully dry before arriving. They have a ton of parking, at least when I arrived at 10am for my appointment. My stylist was marlee and she was AMAZING! she had a short conversation before she started about what I was looking for. I told her what products I used and I KNEW they weren't the best lol. I love how she walked through the whole process with me: from the dry cut, to the wash and condition parts. I was amazed but NOT shocked at how amazing my hair looked and most importantly FELT. She didn't pressure me to buy hair products but I knew in order to really go in with my natural journey I wanted to make sure I had the beet products. I was able to purchase the smaller bottles and even gave me a card and number I could contact her if I had any questions. I will definitely be back! read more

I got my hair washed, cut, and styled by Ashley yesterday and she did such an amazing job! I have natural wavy/curly hair and she made my curls look soft, effortless, bouncy, but also without frizz & very defined. She was very gentle and I'm so happy I decided to go to her for the first time, I will definitely be returning! She was friendly, told me the exact products & method of how she applied the products and styled it. I'm just so disappointed. I've been going to Capella salon for years. This past time I went my stylist wasn't available last minute, but I was about to go on an international trip for a month. They paired me with another stylist, and I was ready to go! I went in told her that I wanted really natural blended highlights, and a cut (but especially in the back). I couldn't tell at the time, but neither of those things were executed well.... But to top it all off she charged 61% more than my usual stylist!! It ended up being around $800?!?! I'm sorry that's just insane. If I loved it, maybe, but for a botched job? So I call, the salon admits fault, but then they only offer to give me $120. I tell them that's not right, and the least they could do was split the difference between my usual stylist and her. They say they'll call back, and they never did. I'm so upset, I've been in tears over it, and it ruined a portion of my trip. They handled this so poorly and lost a loyal customer. They also tried to blame me saying I picked the new stylist, but I should have been warned about their differing skill levels. They tried offering to fix it, but I was already on my way out of town, you would think you can trust a salon to always give good results, but apparently not. OMG! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND CAPELLA SALON!!! The BEST Hair experience EVER! I wanted a low maintenance and manageable hair cut and style. Shai and his team are Curl Masters! The first day I arrived, my hair was a tangled hot mess and I am tender headed! After a consultation with Shai, he showed compassion and asked if I could come back the next day so his assistant could show me the gentle and correct way to wash, detangle and condition my hair. He wanted me to have a great experience since it was my first time at his salon. Kristina, his assistant was kind, gentle and very knowledgeable about how to wash, finger detangle and condition my hair. She showed me the proper products for my hair and how to use them. Then I went under the dryer for about an 1 hour(I have a lot of long, dense & thick hair) and she used a blow dryer with a diffuser to finish drying my hair completely. She showed me how to properly dry my curls. Then I went to Shia's station and I told him to "do want he thought was best!" He created an AMAZING layered cut and style that feels lighter and softer! It is just want I wanted! My hair looks and feels fabulous! He told me how to maintain it daily. Basically, steam from my shower, a light pat and go. Maybe used a light hair spritz as need. At night, I just tie my hair up in pineapple with a silk or satin scarf. He offered to touch my style up in 2 weeks if I wanted any changes. Also, I only have to get a trim every 3-6 months! Was it expensive? Not really. I spent way more $$$ when I used to get my hair washed and flat ironed every 1-2 weeks! Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MY HAIR! Revised # Capella Salon Reached out and gave me back the $75 deposit. They also apologized for the situation with my hair color. I appreciate the apology, and I can happily say I got my full refund. -I went in for a color. I was assigned to Ceci-I wanted it blonde, but I wanted a color to cover the gray. I wanted a color that was lighter, so my gray color could just kind of blends into my hair. Previously I had a perm and I am now natural-because I had a perm earlier in May and it got damaged the hair stylist said I should wait , and did not want to bleach my hair. I showed her another color(picture ) that was more honey blonde. I ask would it cover the gray. I was told yes! It DID NOT cover the gray it ended up bringing my gray out more. She clearly had no idea what the color effect would do to my hair. I was not happy at all! I'm really pissed about it and they were polite and wanted to fix it. But I'm not about to be an experiment in the hands of someone who clearly does not have a understanding of the color wheel-before you put the dye on my hair you didn't know or couldn't answer the questions that I ask before. There's no way in hell. I'm gonna let you now try and fix what you couldn't do in the beginning. Will never RETURN ‼You clearly need to go back to school and study colors and what the outcome will be‼ This salon charges you a $75 fee (when you make your appointment) before you go in to the shop which they take off the bill. The GOAT for a reason. I always get the curl by curl cut with Tasha and she has helped to transform my hair! I have 3b-4b hair (depending on the section lol) and while I've been on my transitioning journey for a while, Tasha really helped me to understand how to use products correctly and how to assess what my hair needs. I can honestly say that I have noticed a huge positive difference in my hair by listening to and following her advice! Also the cut itself has been transformative. I have always been afraid of hair salons because when it comes to the cut, they tend to do what they think is best instead of what you ask for. And with curly hair with major shrinkage this can break your heart lol. But Tasha has always listened to what i want and what my goal is and each time she respected and delivered exactly what i ask for. And keep in mind, that's been different each time for me personally. I remember my first cut I really wanted a better shape, second was about about length, and this most recent time was about cutting as much damage off as possible. EACH time I got what I asked for and walked out satisfied. OK the elephant in the room -- prices. I can really only speak for the curl by curl cut because again that's the only service I personally utilize. Listen, I didn't start coming here until I was in a position to comfortably afford these prices so -- no shame lol. But the reason I think it's worth it is because: A. (good) curly hair products tend to be expensive, and you have to use more the more damaged your hair is in order for your hair to obey lol. I've seen that the better the cut, the less product I have to use and the longer my products last. B. I think most people with my type curls really only get haircuts 1-2x/year. So at least it's not a frequent expense. You pay for a quality cut that lasts. C. a BAD haircut just hurts. It HURTS. If you choose to fix it that will be another expense and not to mention time so that your hair can grow out. D. And obviously, you get what you want. SO. In conclusion. If you have crazy curls like me (sorry no pics, I fear the internet) and you have had bad experience with stylists in the past, I would seriously consider this salon and especially Tasha! I had an appointment on Tuesday with Janaye. First I stalked her ig because I wanted to make sure she would be a good choice for me. I think I just liked her energy the most and that's what made me happy with my initial decision. Once I got there she explained the process to me in full detail. She paid a lot of attention to my hair and my concerns. I have a lot of heat damage on my left side but she said she would do her best to help get that side back to life which I know was going to be a difficult task. Even while she was shampooing and using product she explained everything step by step. For my natural hair ladies out there yall know how hard it to to find a stylist (let alone a salon) that honors, values and uplifts natural hair. Particularly if you are blessed with 4c kinky as kinky gets texture. Without putting a comb or any heat to my head (and without pulling my scalp out!), Marissa cut, washed and expressed my curls in a way that I have never experienced in all 33 years of my blessed life. She also took the time to explain to me how to care for and style my hair and walked me through her entire treatement on my hair. Past stylists have been told to perm my hair, texurize my hair, straighten my hair. All my life I have been told my hair was too much by people who didn't understand it. I just decided to go heatless because I've flat ironed my hair since I was 13 and now I'm in my 30's. I want to know what my actual curl pattern is! LoL Shai is so charming and great at what he does! He cut my hair dry and took his time to make sure he got every curl. Then Alex took sooo much time (in a good way) making sure my hair was clarified (HIGHLY suggest the Olaplex treatment!) , washed and conditioned/deep conditioned, detangled by hand , then styled piece by piece, and finally dried and fluffed out. After reviewing the salons Instagram, yelp, and Google Page, I was really excited to try it out. Yesterday, I went in and asked for a very specific color or a base. The colorist did not highlight my hair to the roots. The base came out much later and ginger. The way they dried and styled my hair completely killed all of my curls. I started crying and left the salon very upset. I went back, and asked for a discount, or some type of refund for what had happened to my hair. The owners only response was that I need to come back to the salon and fix it. But how my supposed to trust the salon again once they colored my hair orange? There was no apology. There was no it knowledge meant of their mistake. Better yet they charge you $75 as a deposit, and another $290 for the color and base. Then you have to remind them that you actually already paid $75. I would never return here, I wouldn't recommend anyone to. Perhaps there are some people at the salon who have different experiences. But if something happens to your hair and it gets completely ruined don't expect any of knowledge meant or your money back. read more

Whew where shall I begin with this review ?! Lol Okay, first things first haha I'm 38 and even at this age I'm still a bit clueless on how to maintain my natural wavy 2/b hair. So growing up as a biracial child, I was always mercilessly ridiculed for having curly hair. Of course at his age, all kids don't know how naturally beautiful they are regards of the features, phenotype and hair, BECAUSE ALL HAIR IS GOOD HAIR; not just one particular texture. So because I was bullied, I learned how to fry my hair bone straight at the highest setting of a flat iron to achieve the straightest hair possible. I have been abusing my hair from maybe 5th grade up until maybe my mid 20s. A very long time. Until I reached my mid twenties, I discovered a gorgeous chanteuse/ fashion icon named #Kelis who bursted on the pop scene with a head full of tightly coiled natural curly hair. It is she who inspired me to throw out my flat iron, throw out my gels and adapt a self confident, strong esteem of self appreciation for curly hair. After of maybe at least a decade of literally ironing my hair bone straight, I've began my natural curl journey that has been a daunting uphill battle. Because I'm not a celebrity as my favorite celebrity, getting my hair cared for and pampered is a very rare, self care treat. To my dismay, I realized that curly hair is NOT studied nor prioritized in the hair industry. While living in New York, i patronized a well known salon that claim to specialize in curly hair to hopefully help me embrace my curls and stop wearing a bun. Needless to say, this poor "upscale" salon that starts with the initials of D.C did NOT educate, inform, or encourage me on my curly journey at all. I think majority of the stylists in the hair industry talk a nice talk and claim they specialize in curly hair but in fact do not. I spent a gut wrenching chunk of money to get a hair style that was horrendous. After this debacle, I'm still stuck on caring, embracing, and nurturing my curls but determined to look beautiful as my icon #kelis does with her curls. So recently I moved from New York to Los Angeles and googled and yelped hair salons. On Yelp, Capella Salon came up with a fantastic photograph of a mid length 2c hair as the backdrop of the profile. I clicked the Capella profile, went through the pictures of clients and to my awesome surprise, guess who I see that patronized Capella? You guessed it, my favorite role model #kelis hahaha! She was the client to Shai as known as the "Curl Doctor". Without hesitation I booked an introduction appointment. So the day comes where I anxiously but excitedly patronize the salon that has a reputation within the entertainment industry. Capella is conveniently located with plenty of free parking. The salon is private and quaint, extraordinarily clean and peaceful. I finally get the chair with Shai and he immediately is friendly. I'm very socially awkward but if this guy is known as the curl doctor then I'm determined to build a relationship with him so it's a dual effort lol What I liked about Shai is that he is very, very informative and knowledgeable about curly hair. He gave me information on how to maintain my hair that no other stylist instructed me on. Not even none of the "expert" curl stylists from the upscale salon in New York. Now I know, Shai is the real deal and not an imposter. I told him my dilemmas, my goals and he gave me a great blueprint to achieve this. He was also very honest and transparent making it clear that my hair goal will take time and patience. He told me what supplements to take to grow my hair, how I should wash and style my hair at home and how often I should get trims. Every stylist tells their clients this this basic bits but what I appreciated about Shai is WHY my hair dilemma is the way it is. Which finally made it click in my head of why I been stuck on my curl journey. He cleared this up for me. To wrap this up, Capella is a very pricy/ affluent salon but you get what you pay for. You will receive education, relaxation, beauty treatments and more. I made a color appointment for balayage with Shai. I have dark 3C hair that's a little longer than shoulder length (much longer when straight). I wanted to go lighter for summer with light brown and honey tones. So I was very meticulous in choosing the right hair professional for this delicate transformation! This was my first appointment and I am so happy with how my hair turned out! Though it wasn't the exact balayage that I had envisioned, Shai was very informative about the potential damage of using bleach, what would look best, the longevity of the color, etc. I believe he truly cared about protecting and caring for my hair while still providing the lighter look I wanted. One of my main points was wanting no brass or warmth, and going with completely neutral color. He executed that perfectly with NO damage to my hair! This is what I appreciate the most! The styling process with Presley, his assistant was unmatched! I had such a wonderful time with her as she washed, conditioned, glossed and dried my hair. She used Innersense products, explained the detangling process and how to get the best curl pattern! We even took a fun little video that I could follow along with styling at home. This is my response to Shai's comment: I am that person that doesn't leave reviews because I am generally satisfied with a product or service and the other stellar reviews speak for themselves. That is the reason why I have only written two reviews on Yelp. But there are times such as this when I need to speak up. When I read your comment I felt guilty and then disappointed all over again. I agree that you are human and everyone makes mistakes but I am the recipient of your mistake. I also agree that the best course of action would have been to call the salon for a complimentary retouch. Have you ever felt so disappointed that you feel deflated as if all the fight has left you and all you want to do is forget and move on? That was me. That is the reason why I did not call because I don't want to rearrange my schedule and drive an hour to the salon again. In order for me to forget, forgive, and move on was to write a review of my experience. I needed closure. Now you've just pissed me off. Based on your comment I can tell you are trying to cover your ass. For example, I followed the receptionist instructions and washed my hair and then detangled and brushed out my hair in the shower. Afterwards I let my hair air dry and did not apply any product to my hair. This was done the day of my appointment. Therefore, my hair was detangled and I was pleased when you complimented my hair saying, "I can tell you take good care of your hair." You did not warn or advise me about potentially having to come back for a retouch. If you have to give a warning to someone and if they have to come back for a retouch within a few days then that implies I am not the first person who has been dissatisfied with your work. Furthermore, I waited three months for an appointment and when I had a small hiccup with my schedule and tried to reschedule I was told that your next available appointment was in March. This was back in early November. The salon might not be at full capacity but I can tell you do not lack for clientele. I bet you alone bring in enough revenue to keep your business afloat from the amount of clients you have booked. I am writing an honest review of my experience and not attacking your business. What came under attack is your ego. Your attempt to redirect blame and make me feel guilty for the bad haircut that I received is obvious. read more

Each and every time I win an award, I always make sure to include Shauna to thank along with my Agent, Mom, God, and several of my favorite restaurants. I owe it all to her to keep my celebrity look fresh. Now that she's in the new Capella just 2 blocks away from the old location, it's more befitting and lovely. She's beautiful, the staff is beautiful, and the new space is open and urban, and yes -- it's beautiful, too. On that note, while it's not required for a hairstylist to be "beautiful", I do believe that if they take good care of themselves with a good cut that translates to a customer feeling confident that they are seeing someone who cares to make others look their best, too, and that includes customers that use run-on sentences. Capella is all this and a bag of chips without being pretentious. Don't take the offering of champagne, wine, or brewed passion-fruit iced tea as anything but making your experience more pleasurable and relaxing. The new location has a shared parking lot with plenty of free parking, even offering valet service at one the restaurants a few shops over. read more

Let me begin in stating that I am a big fan of Capella & the concept of the salon primarily catering to curlyheads like myself. It's just this particular experience that made me unhappy. Because of Andrea's A's leave, I made an appt with Claudia. My goal was to even out my whole head to medium brown and to add blonde highlights all around. I had a couple of pictures for reference. When I had my appt on March 5th, we both decided that she would darken my ombré ends of my hair to make it all one tone and she would add blonde highlights. When all was said and done the highlights were not up to the scalp. There was about 3 inches of roots not bleached. Aside from that, the blonde was almost platinum when I desired a caramel/honey blonde. Because I was unhappy she agreed to see me the following weekend to tone the blonde down and bleach the roots. When I left the second time, the roots were still not bleached even though I had asked her to do so, and the toner made it darker than I wanted. When I got in my car and looked at my hair I almost started crying. *Over time the blonde has lightened so I'm content with it now. But I am still pretty upset about the roots. Now I have to pay someone else to fix them. Sigh. 3 stars because Claudia is super sweet! read more

I am trying to learn how to embrace my curls which includes going to someone who knows how to cut curly hair. This shop, by far, had the best credentials and reviews for the curly girl experience, so I chose them for my very first Devashun cut. (Read the book Curly Girl for an explanation of this cut) I initially tried to book with Shai, the curl guru, but he was booked so far in advance, I agreed to go with Andrea who has also been trained in the Deva cut method. I knew and had started some practices of the book, but still had stuff I wanted to learn. Andrea was great in taking me thru the steps. I had expected more cutting to be done, but I had asked her to try to keep as much length as possible because I wanted to grow it out, so that may be why not as much cutting was done. Maybe she would have overhauled my entire head had I let her have free rein. After the cut, my hair was all frizzed out and wild. I was a little worried. Next, came the wash and Andrea walked me thru the wash and after wash product application. Thank you! I really needed that! She talked to me about using clips to get some lift right at the scalp. Thank you again, I was doing it wrong! *lol* And she showed me how to let my hair dry. Sadly, I don't have a super duper hair dryer at home, so I will never achieve the lovely quick, every hair stays in its place drying that happened at the salon at home... (my hair takes 3.5 hours to dry on its own) But I learned the method and goal to aim for. That's cool. And I learned a thing or two about when I CAN touch my hair and how to do it. VERY cool! I LOVE how my curls on the back of my head look. Very healthy, very clean and not wild and frizzy at all. Whew! *lol* I'm not sure about the shaping around my face, but I'll play with it. I'm still learning. And, I'm still deciding on what I think about the Deva products. They for sure help and work with my curls and styling. But they also make my hair feel different to the touch. While they can make my hair look stiff (sculptured) if I want, they can also be "crunched" into a softer look and feel. My indecision has to do with my being used to feeling my hair as soft and silky, but with using the product, I can tell product is there. Perhaps that's all a part of having to deal with curly hair.
