We drove over, found it easy, parked in one of 3 of their last spots and got in line. Line of 6 moved like a flash. Friendly staff took our order. While we watched a man pull apart lovely looking meat in back. I couldn't stop at brisket tacos, I also ordered Mac and cheese and a peach cheesecake pie slice! My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! You get two tacos, on the most amazing tasting, fluffy flour tortillas. The meat is piled high! I got full off the pile of meat before I got to my tacos. I'm not a big meat person, so when I say the brisket was out of this world I mean it. I've been two Capelo's twice and had two very different experiences. The first time, I got a 1 meat platter with brisket and mac n cheese. The brisket was some of the best I've had in the Bay Area while the mac n cheese was super creamy. That visit was 5 stars but that was back in 2024. This latest experience was some of the worst brisket I've had in the Bay Area and would be rated 2 stars. The brisket was dry, chewy, and sliced in the wrong direction (with the grain instead of against the grain). I also tried the pork ribs - meh and the Dino ribs - tender but very fatty instead of juicy and seasoning seemed to be just salt - a lot of salt. The sides of brussels and kale slaw were also just fine. There was way too much vinegar on the kale slaw. There was live music but the music was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk much less think and we were sitting pretty far away. While I enjoy live music, it would be great if there were parts of the restaurant that was quieter for those looking to talk to their friends or who don't enjoy the specific band that evening. The Good: * They still have the food truck in operation; check their socials to see if it'll be popping up near you. * Dog-friendly outdoor dining * Full bar with tons of local brews on tap. * Friendly and fast service. * While this might not seem like a big deal, all the sides we tried were fantastic! Oddly enough, sides are the Achilles' heel of BBQ restaurants here in The Bay, but Capelo's does it right. The beans in particular were fantastic; creamy, soft, and full of flavor. The Brussels Sprouts were also another standout; perfectly fried with tons of flavor. * Ribs were deliciously smoky and full of flavor from the rub. * Chicken was also done right, and that's probably because they use dark meat--as they should. Never order white meat from a BBQ place; I can almost guarantee it'll be caca. * Loved the complimentary pickles and pickled onions. * Jalapeño-Cheese Sausage was outstanding, as well; juicy and great flavor. * Weekend special Dino Bone (beef rib) was spectacular! Smoky, beefy, and provided me with a ton of leftovers. I think I turned it into three meals. If you're there on a Sat or Sun, be sure to get one of these bad boys! The Ugly: * Parking might be difficult as they do have a small private lot (±15 spots) and there is street parking available, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it. Capelo's Barbeque was OK. I definitely have had better, but it wasn't terrible. They do have live music and I like that they provide pickled ingredients and sauces for you to freely grab. I ordered the 3 Meat Plate and got brisket, hot links, and pork ribs with 2 sides of corn bread and mac and cheese. My favorite protein was probably the hot links which in itself, kind of says a lot. I liked the brisket texture, but thought it could have used more flavor. Best believe I vigorously dunked everything in the sauces. The mac and cheese came out lukewarm and also could have used a touch more of salt as well. The corn bread though, was nice and moist. Additionally, it seemed like the meat quantities were not consistent and in congruence with the amount that you order -- my husband and I ordered 3 meats while the rest of the table ordered between 1 and 2, and it seemed as though the others got more meat than we did in total. They had run out of Brisket and BBQ Chicken before 7PM, so I was stuck with Grilled Chicken, which wasn't as exciting. This time, we made sure to come early! The vibe was casual, with a large (dog-friendly) patio and live music. I got my Beef Brisket with two sides (Mac & Cheese and Brussel Sprouts), as well as a cornbread muffin. The Brisket was everything I wanted it to be! I especially loved the chopped pieces (burnt ends?), which were so soft and flavorful. Their thick BBQ sauce was also very nice. The Mac & Cheese was solid - not the best of my life, but still very tasty. The Brussel Sprouts were a little less memorable, but I enjoyed the cornbread muffin. My cousin raves about this place all of the time. It's been his go-to spot for a long time. The person taking my order was very nice and answered all of my questions. It was pretty crowded as the USA vs Australia World Cup match was on. Although they were super busy, the service from start to finish was wonderful! Service Grade: A I went with the 3 meat plate that comes with 2 sides. I ordered the pork ribs, brisket, and hot links for the meats. I asked for brussel sprouts and creamed corn as my sides. Overall, the food was all very tasty. The meats could have been a much warmer temperature. I felt like it was not just pulled out of the smoker. This could have been the time of day I was there so I will give them another chance. The creamed corn was my favorite. It was piping hot even after 10 minutes and had a great creaminess to it. The brisket and hot links were my two favorite meats. Grade: B+ I tried all four sauces. My favorite blend was the Diablo sauce mixed with the Sweet sauce. Great service and amazing food. The eating area is clean, fun, and loud with live music. Wouldn't mind if they turned down the volume a teeny bit. So many sides to choose from! Enjoyed the cornbread, it was worth getting for me. The brisket was my favorite by far, though we also got the chicken and ribs, which were okay. Loved the Mac and cheese, and the crispy brussel sprouts and coleslaw were good too. The creamed corn is very creamy and thick, a little more than I'm used to. My boyfriend had been wanting to check out this barbecue spot for some time now, and I'm so glad we finally did! Even though I live in town, it was a new discovery for me. He went for the brisket with a side of mac and cheese, while I opted for the ribs and creamed corn. Everything was delicious, and as a bonus, we got complimentary cornbread since it was our first visit. The staff were all super friendly, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere here is really cool. It's an open-air restaurant with fans to keep things comfortable, plus an open bar. They have this amazing sauce station with a bunch of options, from honey mustard and spicy BBQ to sweeter choices, along with pickles and jalapeños. We grabbed some beers from the tap. I stuck with my usual lagers. There are huge TVs both outside and by the bar, making it a great spot to catch a game or just relax. The only slight hiccup was that we arrived a bit late, around 7 PM on a Thursday, with closing at 8 PM. One staff member was cleaning up near our table and seemed a little eager for us to leave, making some noise while we were finishing up. We were already getting ready to go, so it was just a minor thing. But honestly, that was the only downside; everyone else was lovely. We both got the barbecue bowls, which include one meat and one side, and two of them came to $38. They call them "small," but we found the portions to be really generous! Look I've had a ton of barbecue and nothing can top Terry Blacks in Dallas. But in the Bay Area? Capelo's is my new GOAT. They got a super tender smokey brisket which can be ordered by the pound or you can order a plate combo. I got the 1 meat and 2 sides combo with mac n cheese and creamed corn on the side. Good portions on meat and sides, in addition to 3 types of bbq sauce. They got a nice outdoor seating area with picnic tables and a country vibe. Everyone was so friendly from the moment we walked in - when hearing it was our first time, the guy taking our order kindly walked us through the menu and gave us recs! What I loved the most was the outdoor set-up. We came at lunch but totally could see how it's a vibe on a nice night - big screen tv, lights, good food and drinks. We were also with our kids so appreciated how family friendly it felt. The food... I usually hesitate to get chicken and we ordered the white meat but it was so tender and flavorful. Capelo's Barbecue gets around the bay, and it is quite a delicious, clean, and consistent barbecue from a Central Texan native! The prices are very reasonable for the meats, and they have a variety of limitless sauces you can grab. The only negative is that the sides can be better, but that's fine - totally into going pure meat for them! We typically get the 3 meat plates because it's a great value and can feed two. I sometimes can even share one with my parents. All their meats taste equally good. Our favorites are the beef brisket and pork ribs, but their pulled pork and smoked chicken are very moist, tender, and flavorful as well. We sometimes get a hot link on the side, as it's smooth with a good snap and spice. You can request it to be sliced. The grilled chicken breasts are not as tender as the other meats, but still has a good barbecue flavor - I imagine you'd get this if you need to eat lean. For sides, the mac & cheese, baked beans, and corn muffin are our favorites. The mac has a chunky and thick Velveeta-like coating, the beans have a strongly sweet and smoky robust flavor, and the corn muffin has a soft texture. The slaws are more vinegary, and the other sides are something you'd expect from your local grocer's prepared food section. Another thing that Capelo's Barbecue does well are the sauces - they have four types that escalate in heat. They all have very different flavor profiles and are on the sweet and tangy side, but I like them all. Their spiciest sauce is not that bad and does have some natural sweetness, but you should have water ready anyways because it's the spice that slowly grows on your tongue. The employees are extremely nice and efficient, both from the food truck and brick and mortar in Redwood City. One day when we came in for a pickup order, they were celebrating an employee's birthday and offered everyone a slice of cake! I wouldn't be surprised if I went to the South and had better BBQ, but we're in Northern California so I'll note Capelo's as amongst the best I've had in the bay (I've tried a lot of them). It seems they sporadically have live music at their dine-in location (which closes late for a barbecue place), so I hope to join them sometime in the summer for that! Carpelo's BBQ is a solid 3 stars. Overall, everything was decent, but nothing really stood out or wowed me. We ordered a mix of meats and sides. The ribs were a bit of a letdown--they were too burnt in some areas and had quite a few overly fatty parts. The brisket was okay, but on the dry side and slightly hard, which took away from what you'd hope would be the highlight of a BBQ spot. Every single one was dry, but the smoked chicken deserves a special award. The skin had the texture of sandpaper, the meat was flavorless, and I was questioning whether it had ever met a smoker. The brisket was so dry I had to wrestle it just to cut it into pieces. Tender? Not even close. The ribs had a little BBQ flavor, but the meat was slightly fatty and again, there was barely any smoke flavor. The sides didn't save the day either. The baked beans were cooked okay, but the sauce was just sweet with a tad pepper taste. The mac & cheese had a gooey texture and a hint of garlic, but it wasn't very cheesy. The Hot Link Dog was unbelievably basic. The hot link was seriously lacking in flavor, topped with nothing more than ketchup and mustard. Honestly, the Evergood hot links from Costco taste better--and cost a lot less. We tried all the BBQ sauces hoping for a miracle. Most were forgettable, but the Kansas City sweet sauce was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, the best thing I ate was a condiment. Overall, this was easily one of the worst BBQ meals I've had. Excellent taste of Texas BBQ. We came on a Saturday in August near dinner time. The food was so good that I forgot to post in Yelp. Parking was difficult as their small lot was full. There was outside street parking around the restaurant, warehouse and train area. But go early before those spaces are gone! Other than that this reminded me of my time in Austin, Texas. And I can see the Texas influence here. Redwood City perfect to be that Texas outdoor eating as the warm summer heat warms you with live music . Or you can eat in at the small inside area by the bar. My friends got 2 meat combo with 2 sides. I decided to splurge to get a beef rib that was pretty pricy, but they were sold out and instead they replaced it with pork ribs! Wow! That's a lot! All the different sides we got were all good we agreed on. I said although the meat is tender, it just can't beat the cattle down in Texas where the meat will fall of the bone like magic. Texas got their longhorn cattle for a reason and yummy they are! Moo! moo! Overall it's an excellent experience and I would love to go back. I believe my first experience with Capelo was a black food truck in one of the events in San Francisco maybe it was Presidio tops? Other than that they are yummy good . Two thumbs up! I would say this is easily one of the top three barbecue spots in the Bay Area. The sausage was really good--great flavor, not too spicy, just a nice little kick. The brisket was super tender, fatty, and packed with flavor. The mac & cheese was amazing: super cheesy, thick, creamy, and full of flavor. The cream of corn was solid--not a ton of flavor, but still a good side. I definitely want to come back and try the beef ribs, which I've heard sells out really fast. I tried to get them this time but they were already gone, so you definitely need to go early if you want those. One thing I really like about this place is there an all-you-can-eat pickles and pickled red onions. They also have homemade barbecue sauces that are really good--the spicy one and the sweet one are my favorites. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place for the flavor, quality, and tenderness of the meats. The only downside is the portion sizes are on the smaller side, but the prices are okay. I had some friends absolutely RAVE about Capelo's, and I've somehow never heard of it before then! So I knew I had to go check it out. I got the 2 meat plate with brisket and sausage, and sides of Mac n cheese and beans. My favorites were the sausage and the Mac n cheese. The sausage was very unique--absolutely loaded with cheese which made it really good. It was however very greasy and heavy, so if you don't like that I wouldn't recommend it. But it was great to me. The mac n cheese was very gooey and tasty as well. The beans were good. The brisket was just okay in my opinion, nothing to really write home about personally. A bit dry. I also got a slice of the peach cobbler cheesecake which was delicious as well. Loved the graham cracker crust, and the cheesecake was very rich without being overly heavy. We went on a Sunday and they had plenty of TV's playing football, which make it a great spot to watch games as well. In a case of wishful thinking, I brought my Dad to Capelo's Barbeque for one of their fantastic Beef Ribs. Sigh. Reading the specials board, no Beef Ribs. Somehow, I thought they were available on Fridays and Saturdays but unfortunately, it's only Saturdays and Sundays. So, I pivoted and switched to a pound of Smoked Brisket (Juicy), along with a Slab or Pork Ribs, and containers of Cilantro Peanut Slaw and Creamed Corn. Paid for our order, got our Table Top order number and went to get our drinks, set-ups, BBQ sauces and pickled onions and pickles. We chose a table and got the Beast settled. That's one of the things we love about Capelo's, the outdoor dining is perfect for well-mannered dogs. Soon, our food was delivered to our table. Time to feast! Smoked Brisket - 5 - Not chopped, not sliced, but cubed. Well, there were three small slices but everything else was cubed, juicy and delicious. I might occasionally take a drop or two of BBQ sauce but the meat is always good enough to eat by itself. Pork Ribs - 5 - Individually sliced for your dining convenience. Also tender and tasty. Cilantro Peanut Slaw -5 - one of my wife's favorite salads from any BBQ restaurant. Creamed Corn - 5 - Crack! Addictive and ridiculously yummy! The service was great. I came when they opened so the food was hot and fresh. I ordered a two meat plate with brisket, smoked chicken (dark meat), mac n cheese, kale salad, corned bread muffin, and brussel sprouts. The brisket was tender, chicken juicy, the sides tasty. Top Tier! We're visiting from SoCal and my hubs wanted BBQ, this place came up. They offered a great outdoor seating patio that was clean and spacious which is good because we have a pup. The reviews were great so we decided to give it a try. The food is amazing, my brisket was tender and went perfect with all of their bbq especially the spicy one! My hubs LOVED their sausage and ribs. The best part about this place is the service, all of the workers were so nice, not just to me but to my puppy, offering her a little bit of chicken. My bf and I have been here multiple times, but have never left a review, so I thought it was finally time to leave one! When you first enter Capelo's, you order at the cash register, get your number, then sit wherever you want. There is always ample space. There's a bbq sauce bar with 4 different sauces. You can also get pickles and pickled onions and jalapeños there. Our go-to proteins are brisket and ribs! Both are delicious most of the time. Occasionally, the brisket would be a bit dry, but the bbq sauce helps. Overall, brisket flavor and smoke rings are always 5/5. For the ribs, I've had it at times where the meat is super tender and fall off the bone, but other times it's hard to eat it off the bone so I would give 4/5 for the ribs. Again, flavors are always on point. Our favorite sides are the beans, peanut slaw, and the mac and cheese. Literally cannot go wrong with any of those. All sides are fresh and tasty. I probably would have given Capelo's a 5/5 if they were more consistent, but it is still one of our go-to places for Texas BBQ due to flavor, service, and ambiance. read more

The dino ribs (3 bones) $94 were fall of the bone type. We didn't need a knife. The pieces with the fat adjacent to it tasted the best. There were four types of BBQ sauce to chose from. The flavor of the dino ribs was plain without the sauces. To mix things up, we also got the family pack $103.50 with the three sides. You get 1/2 a rack of pork ribs, a sausage and some brisket. The sides seem small when you compare it to a certain Armadillo BBQ restaurant's family pack near Foster City. But that restaurant doesn't have beef ribs on the weekends like Capelo's. Capelo's doesn't have garlic fries. Regardless, good meal. We had two adults and two teens and had enough food for one more adult in which we took to-go. Good job everyone at Capelo's. Nashville, Austin, Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, etc. Your boy has done some traveling in the South and tasted the local fairs. This place is top 3 bbq all time. I'd put this up there with Martin's in Nashville and Franklins in Austin. That's rarified air. Definitely on my Rushmore of bbq. You must get the brisket, beans and banana pudding. If you're going for another protein the sausage with jalapeño is my go to. The Mac n Cheese, Coleslaw, Cornbread and bbq Chicken not as good in my opinion so I stick to the order above when visiting. Wife usually opps for the brisket tacos which are also very delicious and worth a try. Highly encourage you to give this place a try it doesn't disappoint. read more

I probably owe one of my favorite places in the bay a good review after eating their BBQ for this long. Many years ago, I was a new transplant from Houston and discovered their food truck at a long-dead Off the Grid event, and now they have their excellent beer garden a couple blocks off the beaten path in Redwood City. The brisket is definitely the star attraction for me, but their other meats are also excellent, and I like the fried brussels sprouts they've added to the menu recently. The bar in the back has a good spread of beers to wash it down, the TVs and live music provide the entertainment, and it's all served by a friendly crew. It's like going to a party at a friend's house who's obsessive about Texas BBQ, and I hope I'll keep getting invited back. read more

Capelos Barbecue was our second time coming back, and it was a bit of a mixed experience. Some things really stood out, while others left us wanting a little more. The hot link sausages were fantastic with great flavor and snap. The brisket had a beautiful smoke ring and solid bark, but the meat itself felt a little under seasoned and needed a dip in the sauce to really bring it to life. The mac and cheese and creamed corn were decent but could have used a touch more salt. The ribs were better than the brisket and had more flavor on their own, and even better with sauce. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, plus beer and wine which makes it a great casual hangout spot. The decor is also a highlight. Being able to see the smokers through the wood stack wall is awesome and adds to the whole barbecue experience. Capelos has the foundation of solid barbecue, and with a little more seasoning it could really shine where smoke, space, and good vibes come together. read more

So Capelo's BBQ has been on our radar for some time. We frequent the nearby Costco but they always seem closed when we are int he area. However a mandatory class nearby gave us the opportunity and we stopped by. I have been fortunate to eat some great BBQ over my lifetime. and Capelo's was good but had a few areas that were a miss. Good enough for 4 stars in our book (a few errant sides) kept the 5 away NO TACOS!!!! the day we were there, WTH... but I digress Brisket Sandwich. The sandwich was good. Lots of brisket with pickles and onions. The spicy sauce had enough heat and the brisket was tasty but I wanted more crust. The bun made a valiant effort but succumbed about 2/3rds if the way through. BBQ Chicken Plate: large piece of chicken that was nicely smoked. Moist on the inside and quite tasty. The creamed corn side was not great. The cream was kind of pasty and corn was bland. This lacked flavor in a big way. Slaw was also under seasoned and kind of just there. The Sauces: 3 kinds and each were really good. Well flavored and a nice consistency. Pickles: The house made pickles and pickled onions were available in a self serve kind of deal. It was nice to be able to get as many as I wanted (I am a fiend for all things pickled) The bar had a good selection of drafts (lacking a pilsner however) and plenty of canned offerings as well. The staff was friendly and the place clean. They do have a limited lot that looks like it would fill quick when they ave live music and street parking is available. In terms of my ongoing BBQ rankings Capelo's slots in at number 6 tying Mighty Quinn's in NYC. This place was great! I have had nbq in Austin and this was pretty close to it. The brisket sandwich was great. The Mac & Cheese was okay but I prefer the potato salad my husband got. Fast, friendly service. Good vibe and a nice place to sit outside with some friends on a nice day. There is also inside seating too. We will definitely be back. read more
