Stumbled upon Sal's as I was heading home from a Hwy 1 Drive to clear my head. Didn't realize how hungry I was until I was almost to the freeway & still over an hour from home. I debated heading to Curry Up Now for my fave - deconstructed samosa - but checked to see what decent food was closest & here I came. Man, am I glad I did! Amazing burger with halal bacon. The onion rings were crispy and flavorful. The ranch dressing for dipping was yummy. My wife is a Diet Coke aficionado, but they don't carry it. She gave the Salaam Cola a try and was blown away, saying it was better than Diet Coke. I tried it and don't think I could distinguish it from Diet Coke in a blind taste test. What stood out to me about this place was the freshness of the meat. This burger spot prides itself on serving halal beef and chicken, and you can definitely taste the difference. The restaurant is a little small and run by a friendly gentleman. They were getting a good amount of DoorDash orders while I was there, which is always a good sign. I tried the Sal Burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was cooked well, and the meat tasted fresh and flavorful. I wanted to order a second patty! The fries were also crispy and tasty. This is one of those places where you walk in and know the food is going to be good! Its a small business where the burgers are made to order and the staff is so kind! 1st time at Sal's burger. My daughter and I ordered the same burger with different sides and both had the chocolate milk shakes, everything was amazing. The burger was charbroiled and hand formed and it had bacon, lettuce,tomatoes,pickles, onions & their sauce all these fresh ingredients combined well, it was cooked perfectly and very juicy. We loved them! The fries were thin and crispy. The onion rings were bread and also crispy, both good, their milk shakes were creamy and brought back childhood memories, it was nostalgic. The locale was busy, clean and decorated in good taste. The tables were bussed rapidly and Sal himself was at the front of the establishment, something that I believe is very important to me. When the owner is present it shows pride of ownership and this is awesome, he was very friendly and when we asked for suggestions he was forthcoming with his favorite. I tried Sal's Burgers with my family and let me just say it's definitely a tasty burger spot. We ordered the bacon burgers and the buffalo wings and they did not disappoint. Their bacon is the first thing that was gone because it's just that good. I do wish there was more cheese on the burger but that's not a big issues their fries are very good but the star of the show was definitely their house sauce. We ordered it on the side and dipped into it instead. Their wings are extremely saucy yet crispy! I honestly would give this place a 5 stars but they are definitely overpriced. I do wish they had napkins at the table or even next to the water station because we kept having to ask for napkins. I'd like to point out the guy working at the front was incredibly kind and outgoing. I will definitely be coming here again to try more of their menu items. Halal hamburger place in San Mateo. Sal's made SF Chronicles "Top Burgers in the Bay Area" list. It's located in a large plaza at the W Hillsdale exit and is on the left side. I like the interior design, it feels a bit like a vineyard with a simple chandelier inside, dark wood floors, and plants on the walls. Sal at the register was such a nice gentleman, super patient while we stared and debated the menu and he heard my wife accidentally spill some strawberry lemonade and came running with a rag for us. Sal's Classic: 6 oz patty, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, house sauce. Burger tasted slightly under-seasoned but the house sauce was nice. Tasted like a slightly spicy light BBQ-taste thousand island. All-American: 6 oz patty, halal beef bacon, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, sautéed onion, pickle, house sauce. This one was as great with bacon. Kids Cheeseburger: I had the same thing happen at Shake Shack because sometimes kid sizes ended up being huge. Went to this place for the first time last week and the Sal's burger was a decent burger. The only thing I would add is Mayo. Can't go wrong with Mayo just because it makes your burger more juicy. I did minus their sauce just because I'm not a cheesy kinda person. I would definitely be coming back to have some more sweet potatoes fries. I discovered Sal's around 2021 and it's been consistently delicious everytime. In all transparency I always order the Sal's burger and fries here - a simple yet delectable burger. The 6oz beef patty burger, which I enjoy lettuce wrapped, always tastes fresh and of good quality. If you'd like a subtle chipotle, get their sauce. Fries are always hot and crispy. The staff and owner are all so friendly. One time, the owner offered our group free Turkish candies to taste and enjoy. I'm always surprised that this place is not more packed! They have some outdoor seating, which is great when the weather is nice and they have indoor spacious tables and booths. If you're looking for a classic simple burger done right, Sal's is the spot. This spot was amazing. Fully halal menu for those with dietary restrictions. The service was some of the best service I've ever had. The young guy working was super attentive, brought everything to our table, and was so kind when one of the kids on our table dropped the glass of strawberry lemonade and the glass shattered. He cleaned it up right away and brought another one out in a plastic cup. The food came out quick and fresh and there's a cool vibe with both indoors and outdoors seating. As for the food, it was just too good. I have to go back to try some of the items I couldn't try the first time. Me and a friend of mine named Martin came to eat at a burger place because he was craving a good, juicy, succulent burger. I'm talking delicious, seasoned well, tender, great texture with a mouth watering bite that drips from your mouth after consuming as if you just finished having a blast in bed with your partner feeling. This was not that unfortunately. I ordered a Kufta burger and although it was soft and tasty, it wasn't amazing like I wanted it to be. It cost north of 14$ and my friend bought their king of the king of burgers called the cowboy burger for $15. It did come with French fries for both burgers. Those fries were crunchy, tasty and salty. The issue was with the price to portion ratio because at that price tag, I expect to be full and satisfied, both of which were not met when I was finished. My friend had the same feeling. He also bought a chocolate milkshake for $7 and additional $3 for substitution of fries for garlic fries. The entire thing together was about $44 ish. Back in the day this meal was worth maybe $20 and I would be satisfied given the quality and quantity of this meal. The burgers, both of them did not blow me away and excite my dopamine tastebuds to signal my brain for more. I was starving after. So we went and got a large ice cream dessert at another place. The customer service was alright, nothing to write home about! It was a short wait maybe 20 minutes for everything with several other people inside. I had much better burgers at other places, but more importantly, I can make tastier burgers myself in my personal opinion and it would cheaper and healthier. The great news is it is a decent place to hang out. It was clean inside and socially, the environment was somewhat comfortable to talk to others. Roomy and clean bathrooms along with WiFi included. Don't restaurants know that hot meals should be served hot they don't taste good when they're cold especially processed fried food foods!!!
