I have not visited Redwood City ever since I worked here which is back in 2021, and I'm glad to come back here again for lunch here at Pamilya, which is translated to "Family" in from Filipino (Tagalog) to English. There weren't many people here probably because it's Thursday during around lunch time, and I'm not really surprised about it. I do like the music they play inside the restaurant as well as the nice decorations. They do have like posters that share some history of the Philippines including the one that talks about one of the islands there. Ok so this restaurant seems to be like a turo-turo style. In the Philippines, you go to different karinderyas, which are eateries from the Philippines that allow you to point at entrees that you'll see in front of you. This restaurant is similar except that you don't really need to point the food since that they're already names displayed at the front. Also, you can either get a bowl or one/two entrees + appetizer which consists of chicken empanadas, lumpia, Siomai, and more. I ordered an a single entree including pork Sisig and chicken empanadas. I like how they sauced the Sisig, but the crunch is honestly too strong. It doesn't really taste how I normally have it, but it's alright. The rest of the items are good though especially the chicken empanadas. If you're new here, I recommend getting half & half to try at least two foods such as garlic rice and pancit canton. Also, adding mixed veggies is quite untraditional, but that's what makes the restaurant different at least. Overall, almost everything I had here tasted like home. I've been interested in trying more Filipino cuisine, so I was excited to give Pamilya a try when I was looking for food spots on Yelp. They're a fast casual spot where you build your bowl with 1 or 2 entrees. A base, veggies, and appetizer is also included in the bowl. After a brief deliberation, I decided to try the Bangus Sisig. I've never had milkfish before, so I was curious how it would taste. After a couple bites, I found myself enjoying the flavors it! The portions were also fantastic. The food here is good and very filling. They give very generous portions. We tried the bangus sisig and garlic shrimp. The bowl with 1 entree comes with sides, an appetizer and veggies. We also got the Ilocos empanada. It was my first time trying it and I really liked the crispy crust and it has a generous amount of filling as well. It's really huge so I only ate a little bit of it. Incredible selection of filipino food! I loved everything I tried and wish I got a photo, but I was too excited to eat. It tasted so authentic and delicious. The flavors were aromatic and spiced perfectly. The mac salad was spot on exactly what I imagined and wanted, the garlic rice wasn't too overpowering, and the steak/beef entree I chose was delightful. The lumpia too was great too of course. I had the big orange empanada as well and while it was a little greasy, still yummy. The people were kind and knowledgable about the food. I will say it was pretty warm inside (it was a hot day) so I don't think there is AC in there. I wish there was, but it's okay. The restaurant is super takeout friendly and the menu selections give you a good opportunity to try a variety of items that they serve. Some of my favorites were the sisig and the halo halo. I always find it difficult to find a place that serves good sisig since most places, it can be a bit too fatty/greasy but they did it right here! But I was able to come with my Filipino friend and although the plates are pricey, they give a LOT of food. Prob enough for two meals for light to normal people. Each plate gives you 2 scoops of rice or pancit. You can mix and match. Also a scoop of vegetables. I was able to try most of their entrees including the lechon kawali (refried when you order, had to ask for the sauce, but good!), Bicol express (satisfying coconut milk taste and good with garlic rice), inasal bbq skewer (was a bit dry but ok), kaldereta (good beef stew and good with rice), chicken adobo (not bad but it's also p simple to make and not the most flavorful here...), pork sisig (succulent pieces and prob one of the better items here), bangus sisig (note that this is a premium item. They add a $1.50 additional charge even though it's not noted on the menu. Very unprofessional and why I'm subtracting a star.) The plates also come with an appetizer. The lumpia Shanghai is a bit heavy on the skin but overall crunchy and satisfying. The empanadas are also heavy on the breading but not bad. Interior of the store is quite trendy and self serve utensils, water, sauces. would come back again if ever craving Filipino food and not looking to drive to San Bruno or Milpitas. I was on the way to SJ with my family and had a crave for filipino food. Found Pamilya on a Yelp search so we decided to try it out. Fairly easy to get to from the 101 and easy to find. Although the plaza has shared parking, there was plenty of parking in the front and back. When we walked in, there was no one in the restaurant but it had a really nice vibe. The first was pork sisig and pork bbq. It comes with a hefty amount of rice which I chose for my base. You can select other base items like garlic rice and pancit and also do half/half base items as well. It also comes with mixed veggies and sides. I got the siu mai. For the second plate, I got pork sisig and pork tocino. For the side, I got lumpia. I was pretty excited to eat because everything looked and smelled good. First bite from my first plate, the rice was warm with cold spots and same with the pork sisig. The pork bbq was warm and so was the tocino. I expected everything to be hot, but I guess I can't expect much if they were on warmers. I was a bit disappointed. Although the food was good, it doesn't compare to other filipino restaurants in Daly City or Vallejo. I paid about $55 for both plates which was on the higher end of what I'm used to. I'd recommend trying Pamilya at least once if you're in the area. You may find something you like, but the vibe and the ambiance is really nice. Yummy Filipino food in Redwood City! Pamilya is tucked away in a small plaza, and though the parking in front of the restaurant is limited, they have more parking behind the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is huge and has a lot of chairs and tables. This restaurant offers a choose-your-own style of ordering (similar to Chipotle or Panda Express). I ordered their all-day breakfast special, where you can choose one entree (out of the four on the breakfast special menu) and it comes with 2 scoops of garlic rice, two eggs, and ensalada (pickled mixed veggies). For my entree, I ordered longanisa, and it came with 4 pieces. The longanisa was super juicy, and though small, it was still meaty and filling. I'm not super familiar with Filipino food, but everyone there was so patient with me as I hemmed and hawed about what to eat.
