The restaurant part closes at 5pm and the store closes at 8pm. All in all, my Parents were VERY SATISFIED with their selection and are talking about what they will get next time! The worst customer service ever! Before hanging up on me, was told the price of what I wanted. When I called back, I was on hold for nearly 12 minutes with no service. Upon my arrival at the establishment, I attempted to show the face business how long I'd been on hold after being hung up on and he told me I could leave. Not happy! I've patronized this restaurant for several years and have been very pleased with their food and customer service. Today was very different! I ordered a dish with modifications that were not actually filled. I was not happy about this and didn't notice error until the dish arrived home. Missing food!! I immediately called the restaurant and was told that corrections would be made and we needed to come back and pick up the missing food. We retuned to pick up the food, it was not ready!! This in my opinion was not good customer service and was not acceptable to us. I feel really bad about this review. Please try to do better and train your customer service people on correct protocol. I went to capital seafood because the snapper I've gotten from there has been pretty good but I will tell you they offered some that was already filleted. I thought it was convenient so i ordered it. I thought it was weird after glancing at it for a while and After frying it this is definitely not red snapper. It taste more like rockfish. I really hate to do this because the staff is amazingly nice and welcoming. But I ordered a plate yesterday. It sat in my car for about 10 minutes before my car started to smell like doo doo. At first I honestly wholeheartedly thought it was something I might've stepped in or what have you. Anything but my food. But when I got home and put it in the microwave to heat up my roommate told me that the food had bombed the kitchen. I am really sorry for this because like I said the staff members don't deserve the bad publicity. But to top it all off they got my sides wrong AND my drink had a bug in it. Wife went there the day before Christmas to get blue crabs. A customer was nice enough to help her put them in a bag. When she got home, we had 7 medium crabs and 1 was dead and it costed $38.81... I figured they may have made a mistake at the scale, so I called them to ask. I was told that a manager was not available but spoke with a woman who has no business addressing the public who said there was nothing they were going to do to make things right but if I wanted to bring back the dead crab, she would give me a live one. I went to Capital Sesfood Market on 9/13/23 and purchased a pound of whiting filet, which I paid $8.15 for. I have always purchased my fish from this market and never had a problem, but on this day, when I got the fish home and took it out of the wrapping paper, it was rancid, and falling apart. I tried to wash it with lemon, but it still had that rotten, rancid smell. I had to throw it out. I could have gotten really sick had I cooked and eaten this fish. Although the aesthetics of the place could use some real good TLC, the market gives you exactly what you asked for. Half seafood market, half restaurant, you can grab a variety of different options to take home and cook yourself. Plus they can scale, gut, clip, filet, etc the fish any way you need. We haven't tried the food from the restaurant yet but you've got plenty of options to choose from. My order came out to be almost $50 and I knew something was wrong because I order the same thing every time I come in.Mistakes happen BUT when I ask her how much each item is to be sure that price have not changed, and I get eye rolls and attitude, in front of the owner! It's always a pleasure to find a fish market that has whole fish for sale, and the staff to prepare the fish at the time of sale. In my case I bought two whole tilapia and had them filleted while I waited. The service was quick and friendly and the fillet was done well (although one of the fillets had a few bones left in it; not really a problem but not something I experience at my normal fish market in Raleigh). Normally Capital Seafood is really good, but I don't know what happened this past visit. There was a huge bone in my cabbage, and when I contacted them to get a refund, I was told that I have to ASK to have bones and meat removed from my food because it's cooked with meat. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I won't be back for a while, especially considering I can cook the majority of their menu myself. My husband wanted fish and when we pulled up I decided to order dinner since we were out. We walked in and he selected his fish, we stood in line to pay and I observed the way the Fresh seafood cashier was speaking and working. There was confusion on where he was supposed to pay for the fish but instead of redirecting him as a patron he was almost scolded for being in the wrong place. She rung him up told him the total and he placed his card on the reader and she scolded him again because she hadn't put the fish in the bag. How was he supposed to know to wait for her to put the fish in the bag?! I despise bad customer service, so the dinner I was going to get will come from somewhere else. One of the folks at the counter asked if I had a special recipe in mind and I told him that I wanted to smoke either bluefish or mullet to make a spread for 4 of us. He quickly pointed out 2 perfectly sized bluefish and asked if I wanted them dressed, which they did. The whole process took five minutes, and it was darn good fish spread if I can say so myself. DH and I originally went to get some fresh oysters. We picked up a peck for $20. We also could not pass up a Captain's Platter special (fried shrimp, fried clams, fried trout fillet, 2 sides and hush puppies) for $7 to go. The platter was big enough to share and satisfy a hungry appetite. Do not be put off by store's appearance. I wish they would let you know it will be the frozen fish and not a fresh piece. The fish was old and the fries were taken out of the grease and thrown in the box. I'll usually get 2-way combo with fish and shrimp, it brings 2 sides and is always too much to finish in one sitting. For lunch they have an unbeatable $4 special that includes a fish sandwich, fries and a tea.They have added additional items to their menu such as BBQ and chitterlings, haven't tried them, but may of interest to some. My family and I visited to see what this place was all about. We came around 2 and grabbed lunch plates. First, the catfish is delicious! Second, the sides (I got collard greens and succotash) were good as well. I wish the portions were larger because it was such a tease eating out of that small cup but I know in my next visit, I will get a larger size. Third, the customer service is great as well. The woman who took our order was sweet and pleasant. I wish all establishments had her customer service! The establishment looks a little run down so I can see how it may turn others away. I saw a few things that made me question health and safety but I tried to not let that spoil or ruin my experience (which it didn't). Pricing is fair and inexpensive. There is also a large variety of seafood options. When we went, it appeared that there was a disagreement amongst staff and it was obvious there was an issue. It was handled in front of customers rather than behind closed doors. Aside from that, I would still suggest you give this place a chance as their food is really good! I have been going to Capital Seafood off and on for years. A couple of weeks ago, I called in an order of fried catfish, collard greens and fries. I picked up the food, went back to my office and discovered I did not have catfish. It did not look like catfish and it didn't taste like catfish. It was either flounder or tilapia, definitely not catfish. I called the market and was told to bring it back and they would correct the order. When I left work at 5 pm, I went back and of course there were a lot of people inside. Finally, one of the older ladies asked what I needed and I told her. She opened the box and said, "no that's not catfish, it's probably tilapia. I'll take it back to them [meaning the cooks]" She returned a short time later and said, "they said this is catfish." She knew, I knew and I hope the cooks knew, it was not catfish! I left the food there and will never return. The candied yams are the best I have had, including those my grandmother cooked. First off, this place smells absolutely horrible on the outside and on the inside. I ordered cod filets here and the fish stunk up my car. I had to ride with the windows down. I got the fish home and I should've thrown the fish out then, but I individually packaged the pieces of fish in ziplock bags and put them in the freezer. The smell did not go away. The fish stunk up my freezer and kitchen. I ended up having to just throw the fish out. I came back again today picking up an order for take out (not for me). The cashier was on her personal cell phone the entire time she was completing transactions with customers. I've never seen any customer service like this. read more
