After coming down with a nasty case of Bingo-lio (like the Polio of gambling addictions), my lady and I spent one of our four afternoons in Austin playing bingo with a bunch of blue hairs in north Austin. YOLO. We got wrapped up in this hard hitting rag http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/capital-bingo-austin?select=wGGsbhx-D6w3NXqu39g-pg#wGGsbhx-D6w3NXqu39g-pg and decided it was time to break out our ink blotters for a rousing hour of potential cash winnings. Sadly, neither of us were boss enough to even get a single line of 5 in a row, but I was happy for the folks inches from their deathbed winning $500 before kicking the bucket. Surprisingly very fun and I could tell the staff were jazzed on seeing two folks under the age of 84 years old. For just $1 or $2 with the chance of winning upwards of $750 per game... I've definitely had worse odds in my gambling career.

All these places rely on pull tabs to make ends meet, and the customers certainly eat them up.

It's really expensive to play at Treasure Island Bingo in Austin. I was in town visiting and…read morefigured that I 'd give this bingo hall a try but I should've kept my money and went back to capitol bingo instead. When I first got to Treasure island they asked me for my first & last name then proceeded to type in the computer system which I didn't understand what was going so I once again told them that I've never played there before hence all the questions that I was asking. They also asked for my date of birth, I guess they were creating a profile for me. They didn't clearly explain the games so I didn't know which games were being sold or played at the same time. They didn't explain that some games were double action and others were not. The pull tabs are very random as well, meaning that when I first got there they told me they were only playing and selling 3 pull tab games which I figured would be great but instead they started selling additional pull tabs (none of which were "all play" so you've basically been just wasting money, hoping that you get one of the horses). The parking was nice but this bingo hall is not smoke-free. I've played Bingo in several other states and in my opinion this Treasure Island Bingo Austin location charges too much to play for what you get in return. When you add the $25 machine cost with adding early birds and pull tabs for both sessions you'll be spending $400 in no time which definitely isn't worth it. They also allow the workers to play bingo while they're working which I've never seen happen at any bingo place I've played at. Overall a very weird bingo experience, I don't plan on returning back. The caller does call the numbers at a good speed.

I'm not a huge gambler. I don't like it much at all. Like Beyonce said "I work too hard for my…read moremoney to give it away". But my mom wanted me to go with her. Bingo has always been one of her favorite things on the planet, and recently, this seems to be her favorite place to go. So I agreed to tag along. It was really cozy and I liked that! When we walked in the boy spinning a prize wheel knew my mom's name. I thought that meant she has a gambling problem but turns out it's that way with a lot of the customers here. The people working here learn their regulars. I was impressed. The employees are also very friendly. There is smoking and non-smoking. Thankfully, we sat in non-smoking since we had my nephew with us. Not sure of the age limit but kids are allowed. They do have to play if attending. The did have a kitchen but it has been closed since COVID. So you're able to bring your own food and drinks...INCLUDING ALCOHOL! I didn't though because I didn't know until I got there and saw people cracking open cold ones. We stayed for both sessions which is about 3 hours total. I didn't win anything. I've never been lucky which is part of the reasons gambling and bingo in particular never appealed to me. But this was a bit different. Apparently, you can play computers. With those you really can't miss anything...you don't even really have to pay attention! That was pretty cool because I could be on Twitter getting caught up on the latest Omarion/Mario Verzuz drama while not worrying about sleeping my bingo. Really, I didn't have to worry about it because (as usual) I never came close. But you know what...I'LL BE BACK! It seemed different here then other bingo halls I've been in before. I don't know what it was. Just more relaxed and friendly here. Not that I have much to compare it to. But if you want a comfy place to pass some time around friendly people why not? Plus, my mom went the very next day and won so :/

I love going to Bingo! It's a great atmosphere here. It's pretty smoky if you walk in the front…read moredoor but you can always just come in the side door and never have to walk through that section. It doesn't bother me much either way. The staff is always great! Everyone is super nice (except one of the girls at the main desk... she's rude sometimes but it's understandable when you have 19 people in line staring at you to hurry up). The runners are all pretty great. Some better than others but they all have their good nights. I do have two complaints but they aren't worth a bad grade. It gets super hot in non smoking (I'm not sure about the smoking section). It might be just because it's always so crowded but if something could be done about that, people would be much happier. My second complaint isn't actually about the bingo hall exactly. There is a man and sometimes a woman with him who is obnoxious as all get out. He always sits in Little Non Smoking. He's an older, short, chubby-ish black man. During horse races, he continually yells out the number that he needs, so loud that you can't hear the announcer. And he stands up and jumps around while yelling. I understand that you can get excited but it's super annoying. Also, DURING the games, he calls out the numbers that he needs... he yells stuff like "don't make me come up there and reshake those balls for you James", or "I know I don't need to teach you how to pick the right balls James" "I need a 7 James!" "Come on James!" Or! When you have children with you and the number O69 is called.. "oohh James! You called my favorite number James! 69 is my favorite number" - some people laugh at him but most find him super annoying but no one makes him stop because he comes in with stacks of 100's and I guess he tips very well.. I get that the runners depend on Tips, but ... my family and friends will stop coming unless someone makes him stop. Or at least calm down a bit. You can tell he does it for attention bc he always looks around after he says stuff, to see whose watching him. It's ridiculous. Other than they crazy man and it being a tad bit warm, I love the place! I go whenever I can, with my family and on Saturday's with friends!

This place is an Austin institution and one of the best places in the city to experience live music. This historic venue has been a local hangout for great music since the 1950s. The club was dimly lit with lots of stickers, graffiti, neon signage, paintings and interesting artifacts. While it has been a long time since I have been to the Continental club, it still felt truly Austin and very unpretentious. In the Continental Club you are literally I feet away from the live music. A dog was sleeping on stage, which made the place feel homey. The club is small and intimate, exuding a super personal persona. In addition, the sound quality is excellent for such a small venue. Tonight we listened to Hot Club Cowtown...they sounded folksy and a bit country western yet enjoyable to listen to. Folks were boot scooting, so maybe more country western. Mike the doorman was super personable and helpful. He happily provided the WIFI password and was super engaging. In addition, it is important to note the cover was free until 9 pm.
