Absolutely do not go here unless you want to 1) have your clothes ruined from an alteration 2) have your clothes ruined from over starching (specifically when asked not to starch) or 3) have your clothes lost. Fortunately when they ruined my dress from an alteration they did refund me and reimburse me for the dress. That was what I hoped was the first and only incident, however there were multiple after that. Not to mention they over starched a $700 dress of mine that is no longer made. I was hoping their issues were just limited to alterations and I could continue using them as a dry cleaner, but it turns out they don't even know how to wash clothes properly nor how to find them. read more

After Covid, it seems quite a few cleaners have gone down the drain and the ones that were decent have also gotten worse. Initially, I was dismayed with giving this place a try due to ratings, but after reading recent reviews, I decided my experience could not be worse than what I have already been experiencing. When you spend as much money on clothes as I do, it's essential to place them in trusted hands for cleaning. Capitol is amazing, keeping everything in-house which makes turnaround super fast. Their expertise in cleaning is so important, as they'll advise whether to choose dry cleaning or laundering for unusual fabrics and vintage items, and have also been honest when an item shouldn't be cleaned (rather than running the risk of destroying a beloved piece, which I've experienced at another business - heartbreaking!!). My cat has regular accidents on my couch, and the lovely people here do a phenomenal job cleaning my cushion covers. I have a nice couch, and the dry clean only fabric is sensitive, but they do such an amazing job of making the covers clean and smelling fresh!! My husband brought his suit here a few months ago to be cleaned for a wedding. It was in perfect condition when he dropped it off. When Capitol Cleaners returned the suit to us, the jacket lining was ripped and a number of the buttons were deeply scratched -- some ripped clean in half -- and someone had affixed a note to the front marked "item received in damaged condition." This was sloppy work, irresponsible, and a flagrant lie. I am frankly shocked this is the way they run their business. We have to take the jacket to a tailor for repairs now that are more expensive than the initial cleaning was. It was a huge mistake to come here and we won't be coming back. read more

For two months I passed by Capitol Cleaners on my way to work. When I finally had a pile of 'dry clean only' items that needed to be taken to a cleaners, I figured this would be my best bet since it was on my daily commute. I should have done a little more research before taking 9 shirts and 2 dresses here. With 4.5 stars on Yelp, I thought I could trust this business with my clothes, I was wrong. 3 of the shirts came back with rips, designs that were once sewn on were now hanging off and my wallet was empty. When I called to complain, they insisted that it hadn't had those rips/tears when I took it in. I DON'T THINK SO. Anyway, I'm not in the mood to really fight them for my money back or a shirt that can't be replaced but this is a warning for all of you Yelpers to not take anything here that you can't replace or don't want ruined... which should mean you should stray away from Capitol Cleaners. read more

I've taken two things here: a dress and a pair of jeans. My experience went something like this: When I called for pricing on Monday, the lady told me that dry cleaning for regular dresses is $9.50, but they're only $7.50 on Tuesdays. She suggested I wait until Tuesday for the cheaper price. So I did. On Tuesday, as I waited for them to add me to the system, I looked toward the back of the store and found a lady waving and smiling at me all friendly-like. I waved at her and wondered if I knew her, then realized that's just her way of making people feel welcome. Mission accomplished. My dress was ready the next day after 5 p.m. When I went to get it, the same friendly, waving lady brought me my dress and commented on how pretty it was. (Ego boost, as I'm not a dress wearer, and I certainly don't have an eye for dress fashion.) I asked her about the broken zipper on my jeans (that I'd conveniently brought with me). She said they could replace it, but the issue is the cost. It's about $17 for a new zipper, "so you'll have to decide how much you like your jeans." I sat there debating aloud. "That's what I paid for them, but they're my FAVORITE jeans. I guess I could just say goodbye to them. But they're my FAVORITE jeans ..." She just stood there and offered sympathetic statements about finding the right ones and sticking with them. Looking back, it was kind of like therapy. In the end, I opted to replace the zipper. She told me it'd take about a week, but to call a few days early because they'd probably be done much sooner. They were. My only very slight hesitation is that the pull tab on the new zipper is much bigger than the original, but it's not noticeable when I'm wearing the jeans, so it's really not an issue. The lady was right: There's nothing like finding the right pair of jeans. And all in all, there's nothing like finding the right dry cleaner/alteration shop, either. read more

I'm very impressed and pleased with Capitol Cleaners. I brought in five cashmere and wool sweaters for dry cleaning (never wash these at home- they'll shrink a size or more!), and two days later picked up my items. Everything was folded nicely , the inside of the folds separated with tissue paper, all hung on hangers for getting it home. My only complaint is the smell that was on my clothing after I left. It was odd, like White Diamonds or some old lady smell. Not horrible, and definitely something that my drawer sachets will correct, but not desirable, either. They were, however, more than $2 cheaper per garment than Reid's, and in my opinion, friendlier. I've now heard that they do inexpensive alterations as well, so I'm sure I'll be back for some jeans to be hemmed in the future. read more

I handmade my friend's wedding dress out of silk charmeuse. Unfortunately, a mishap with a leaky iron caused water to spill on the silk and stain it. Drat! No problem, such stains are not permanent and are easily washed out with - guess - water! Simple fix, and the dress needed to be cleaned anyway. Considering the delicate material, I recommended that she take it to a professional cleaning service to ensure that the dress was taken care of rather than risk washing by hand. She took it to Capitol cleaners days before the wedding. Sadly, it turned into an ordeal. The cleaners chemically cleaned the dress without treating the stains first. When returning the dress, they accused my friend of lying that it was just water, saying that it had to be blood or something. What? They essentially blamed her for their inability to properly clean the dress. She begged them to re-treat it, going so far as to show them online via a simple Google search that the stains were NOT permanent and would come out with a simple rinsing in water. They asked for permission to do the rinsing and did, finally, get the dress clean. I was pretty shocked that professional cleaners would be so clueless as to how to handle silk and stains on silk. The dry cleaning dulled the silk's sheen, but that was considered acceptable. But the pressing of the dress was horrible! I literally spent several hours - several - repressing the dress (with a completely dry and working iron this time - lesson learned). The skirt was a flowing, full skirt, with a band for trim on the hem. Obviously, someone was either lazy or didn't know how to handle curved seams and just ran the iron over it without caring about the shape. Hence, crease after crease after crease. Not only that, but there were popped seams as well. We were scared it was ruined. After a full day dedicated to fixing it, the dress was repressed, clean, and repaired. It looked beautiful on her. If I had known it would cause that much hassle, pain, and panic on top of nearly ruining the dress, I would have just cleaned it myself. I had thought it would save time and worry, but it turned into the opposite. I recognize this was perhaps an extreme case because it was a wedding dress made out of incredibly delicate silk. Still, I just can't recommend them if you plan to clean similar fabrics. read more

Sadly, service has gone way downhill over the past year. I can tell as they've gotten busier, they've hired new people, because I see a lot of new employees in there. Unfortunately, along with the new staff has come dour, unfriendly attitudes and a lack of knowledge that had been there for years. Ken had waited on me for several years and always greeted me by name. He knew how I liked things done and had knowledge of recommended drycleaning or laundry. However, today was the last straw. I walked in and a new blonde girl didn't look up, didn't smile, just grumped "Last Name?" .. I said to her "Hello, how are you?", and she replied "Last Name?!" .. I told her there were three drycleaners within a mile and I would be taking my business elsewhere. I found a friendly owner-operated drycleaner at 914 W Mary around the corner who smiled and took good care of me, and I will not be back to Capitol Cleaners. read more

Washburn's recommended that I take my jeans to Capitol Cleaners to get them mended. They are my favorite pair, and you know how that is. So, I took them, and Capitol Cleaners did a great job mending them. They actually didn't just sew them, but put in a patch and then sewed them, too, and very well. Just in glancing, you can't even tell. They did a better job than I even imagined. I would recommend them (although they did, weirdly, iron my jeans and put a crease in them, but I washed them and got rid of that). read more

So this is a shout out to Ashley, specifically! This is a WONDERFUL place though. My jeans had a zipper that malfunctioned. Not like Janet Jackson style at the Superbowl, more like a problem that Justin Timberlake might have had, lol. I checked around at least seven places in hopes of fixing my favorite seven jeans... This place was the winner! It was $16.95 to replace the zipper. They had to send off the jeans for about a week. They were excellent with communication and follow up throughout the process, which meant a lot to me. Keep up the stellar work, Ashley, and the whole team there is super cool. We all have busy lives, and this place is trustworthy with your items. In the words of Sugar Brown, when it comes to the hassle of finding a great place, "ain't nobody got tiiiiime for that!" If I could I would give this place a negative score... This is a REAL example of what comes cheap might end up being more expensive. I used this place 3 times and each and every time something was messed up: 1 new shirt was stained and the stain can't be removed now. 2 suits were ironed as if a 3 year old had ironed them... how can a business screw this up?!?!? It's ridiculous, ironing should be a given. 1 tie (this one hurt the most, an Hermes tie) was stained and ironed, so the stain cannot be removed anymore... a $250 tie with sentimental value completely ruined. I had a really poor experience here. I dropped off 3 items for minor sewing/repairs. A week later, picked the items up and returned home to find that the repairs simply had not been completed on one of the items. Someone had taken the time to package the item in shrink-wrap, etc, but they didn't bother to actually check that the order had been fulfilled. I returned to the store and then had to argue that I should receive a refund for that item. Frankly, I think the entire order should have been comped given such a careless mistake that cost me over 45 minutes of my time to rectify. Long story short, the repair was completed on that item and now, a week later, the repair is already coming undone. I had asked for the item to be patched but it was re-sewn, and the job was truly poor. I will not be coming back here ever again. read more

INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED. Had a lot of good experiences here. But after TRASHING my suit by getting it wet (only thing I can think of now that its crunchy and shrunken) I've bought 1 nice suit in my life, a $600 suit for my Brothers wedding last year (thats a LOT of money to me!!!) It was going to be my 'special occasion' suit worn only to weddings, job interviews, etc. I had it cleaned after my brothers wedding last July. I was excited to take it out of the suit packaging just as they had left it last week to put it on for a job interview....I soon realized it was better fit for an 10 year old. Shrunk beyond belief and stiff as a board. The inner pockets, usually silky material, felt more like a wadded up $5 bill. I took it in to them, still with the safety pinned tag they put on it and explained the situation. They said sorry, been too long. I realize there are extremely horrible people out there that are willing to do anything for free buck, but I could not be further from that. I WORKED MY BUTT OFF to be able to afford that suit and thought it was in good hands. DISAPPOINTED THAT THE OWNER ISN'T WILLING TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT FOR A REGULAR CUSTOMER. read more

They are fantastic. I work for a non-profit group that supports local children and they are always needing their clothes cleaned. We generally need a pretty quick turn around and Capitol is always there to make it happen. They are reasonable and friendly. I know the owners and they are just always such great people. They also do charity work in the community. Some of the children's clothes are very old and they have them looking like new in no time! read more

Capitol Cleaners isn't perfect, but with the closing of Washburn's and both of the cleaners on South Lamar near Barton Skyway, it's one of the dwindling number left remaining in '04, and in my opinion it's the best of the bunch. I appreciate the fact that they hired some of the Washburn's folks after they lost their lease after decades in business. Unlike, say, Jack Brown, Capitol doesn't manage to break at least one shirt button every other visit. I do concur with the comment about clothes coming back overly stiff. I haven't had that problem with shirts, but my cotton khakis have come back literally stiff as a board. read more

It's a really bright textile w some white mixed in so I was sure it would bleed or fade if I threw it in the wash. I took it here and they warned me of the same thing. I strongly advise against using their tailoring services. When I picked up my bridesmaid dress, not only was the hem still 4 inches too long and dragging on the ground, but the arm hole was so tight it was making my shoulder red. The employees were very kind about my concerns and took the dress back to fix it, but they then made me drive out to a farther location (as opposed to this one which is right by my house) to have an additional fitting during a small window when their tailor was in. It was inconvenient, stressful (I would have had plenty of time, but because this took longer than expected I was in a time crunch), and the final product wasn't perfect, as I would expect from a good tailor. Everyone there was very kind about it and worked to help the dress become acceptable again, but I still paid $57 to tailor a dress that I had to bring back multiple times and still wasn't tailored perfectly. I can't speak to the cleaning, but I will not bring any of my clothes here again after this experience. read more

This will be my first yelp review, but I was so impressed with this place I had to rate. I had bought an expensive white swimsuit and after wearing it only one time, I had yellow stains on it from sunblock. I was so worried that it wouldn't be able to come out so I called Capitol and they said to bring it in and they would take a look at it. Major, the man working in the back, came out to look at it and said he would work on it but couldn't guarantee if the stain would be removed. When I go to pick up the swimsuit it looked brand spankin new! Thanks Major! Everyone has always been very friendly each time I have visited. I highly recommend this place! read more
