I went to Dr. Thomas Malone because he was close and in-network. The X-ray machine was down at my first visit but he said he could tell I had a cavity that needed filling. The cleaning was the most painful I have ever experienced, and I generally like dentists. He is nice enough, but not very interested in explaining the details of what he is doing. The staff was fine. My second appt, what should have been a filling turned into a surprise root canal- he got in there and said it was worse than he thought. I should have stopped him right there and gotten a second opinion. But I was already Novocained up and trusted him. I am not sure whether I needed a root canal or not, but the tooth had never cause me problems or pain before. So, 6 more appts later.... My tooth has been in pain for 4 months, this has been the longest and most painful dental experience of my life. He thought the pain was from an infection and gave me 2 Rx for antibiotics. Finally he figures out he only got 3 of the 4 roots that he needed to, and that is why I have been in pain for so long. Now I am stuck with a sore tooth and insurance won't cover another procedure on the same tooth for 2 years. Never again will I go back to him. read more

Decided to come to Capitol Hill Associates because most of work colleagues go here! I had an exam done which was fairly quick, a filling for a cavity that took 25 minutes and most recently I was referred to an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth removal. Dentist Malone is wonderful! She's funny, quick with her work, and makes sure that I understand what is happening with my teeth. The location is a ways away from me but it's worth it. The ladies at the front desk are respectful and helpful! read more

Let me start by saying everyone in this establishment is very nice! I found them all to be pleasant, including the dentist UNTIL today. I came for my initial visit which was just a cleaning and X-Ray. Small office. They play music which I actually really enjoy because it's relaxing. First visit was fine.. But he informed me I needed A LOT of work done. I left willing to return as soon as possible. Second visit I told him which tooth gave me the most pain and that's the tooth he decided to work on. Said he wasn't entirely sure how bad it was but didn't wanna do an unnecessary root canal so decided to do a fill-in. At that very moment, I was turned off. Because I want my dentist to be sure the decision he's making is the RIGHT one. During the procedure he tells me my tongue is being defensive and I needed to relax it. Well it's F****** numb so I really can't control what it's doing. Once I went to rinse my mouth afterwards I noticed a tiny chunk of flesh and a bunch of blood in the sink. For an entire week after the fill-in my mouth was so sore, I could barely open it, my tongue had been cut in 3 different areas, and guess what.... That tooth? Still hurt like hell. I was pretty scarred from that visit and didn't want to return but I figured maybe they'll refund me since his uncertainty left me $110 short. I just went back in TODAY not fully expecting a refund but for the price to be adjusted if I decided to get the root canal. Dear God I have never been talked to the way he did by a dentist. He gave me so much attitude and said that his time went into doing the fill so there will be no price adjustment. It was like he was trying to chastise me for asking a simple question. I was pretty shaken after that, I just couldn't believe his response. He then suggests we do the root canal right now. So I say well I wanna know what that will cost me before we begin. He has his nurse go to the front desk to run the numbers but insists on starting the numbing process. But I stopped him and as it turns out the root canal would have ran over and I'd be paying out of pocket! There's still more! He says "well let's find another tooth to fill" .. Yet again with uncertainty, he fills one of them then ends it by saying "I'll put the medicine in there and pray this works" I'm still completely in shock! You can't regrow teeth so if you plan to keep yours, stay away from this place ! read more

This is the dentist you went to when you were a kid, the place where they made you feel welcome and got down to the nitty gritty of what's going on in your mouth without making you feel pressured to get $3000 veneers or a cosmetic whitening treatment. If you want an affordable, clean, friendly dentist who won't try to upsell you on anything more than a $20 fluoride treatment, I cannot recommend Dr. Bennye Malone and her colleagues at Capital Hill Dental Associates enough. read more

Capitol Hill Dental Associates is a small, family operated dental office located a block from the Potomac Ave metro station. I needed a new dentist, I like to support local businesses, and they took my insurance, so I decided to give them a shot. As far as I could tell, the entire operation is in the first floor of a row-house-sized building on Penn Ave. I really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. During my visit I learned that the two of the three dentists actually used to be married to each other, and their daughter works at the front desk - that explains the family feel! I was a few minutes late for my appointment and they were very kind about it. They seated me right away, and the x-rays, cleaning and check-up were both quick and thorough. I've never had a dentist do a cleaning before - always a hygienist, with a quick check by the dentist at the end - so it was nice to actually spend some time with Dr. Malone. He was kind and genuinely concerned about my comfort. The equipment was in good shape, and the digital x-rays were quick and efficient. If you're looking for a super-high-tech dentist with the latest gadgets or extensive surgical facilities, this might not be the place for you, but for my needs, it was a good fit. The people were great, the whole operation seemed well-run, and I was in and out in under an hour. And, no cavities!! read more

I moved into the neighborhood and decided to go to a local business when it was time to clean my teeth. I saw Dr. Thomas Malone once and that was enough. He seemed knowledgeable and the staff was efficient and friendly. However, the facility looked like it was going to fall down around my head. There were tiles laying ascew and loose on the floor. The place looked like it hadn't been painted or cleaned thoroughly in quite some time. When someone puts their hands in my mouth, I need to be certain that they are clean. I've spent the last couple of months looking for another dentist in the area to confirm that I indeed need the fillings Dr. Malone suggested (and that the place was clean before I made an appointment). read more

Dr. Thomas Malone is my dentist and he is excellent. Dr. Malone is conveniently located near the Potomac metro station. There is street parking around the dentist office. Dr. Malone has a ton of experience and will do a fine job in whatever work that is needed. He has transformed my mouth in the years I have been coming to him. His office takes most dental and health insurances. His work is reasonably priced, however the fees add up accordion to your insurance and what is needed. The staff is friendly, professional and will call to remind/confirm your appointment. read more

So today I called this place to try and get my 3 year old son a appointment as a new patient. First when I called I was told I would get a call back which was fine. I received a call back and gave the lady who I spoke with all of my sons information after being out on hold like twice, but I work in the medical field so I understand I guess. What I don't understand is why this is a pediatric office?! My sole purpose for trying to get my son a appointment here was the fact that they at are open on Saturdays. So I asked for a Saturday appointment I was told that the dentist doesn't see toddlers on weekends.. ok... then I continue to ask what's the latest appointment time? She then responds oh she doesn't see toddlers in the evenings after 12pm. Are you freaking kidding me?! Don't have a "PEDIATRIC" dental office if you're going to restrict toddlers to only certain times of the day that is ridiculous! Thank you for nothing! read more

Avoid like the plague. Went to these guys because they were the nearest dentist that took my insurance and were available on short notice. The only good thing I can say about them is that their front desk staff is nice. As soon as I started got in the dentist chair things went down hill. In short: - Unprofessional staff (answering personal cell phones while you're still clamping down on those uncomfortable x-ray screens, watching the evening news while working on you, holding animated conversations with each other while fumbling around in your mouth) - Incapable dentists (telling me I need a filling because 'the red bar on the computer screen is at .8 and that means you need a filling'. No indication that she had any clue what she was talking about) - Uncaring dentists (spraying my face and eyes with a mixture of saliva, polishing grit, and plaque as she absentmindedly fumbled around in my mouth with the polishing drill thing) - Skeezy business practices (charged me a $10 "OSHA Sterilization fee" which, according to Aetna, they're not allowed to charge to customers) read more

I've been going to Dr. Thomas Malone for 5 years and he's great. He's super friendly and does great work. I live nearby so I usually book appointments first thing in the morning, Dr. Malone is always on time and gets me out of there really quickly (usually out by 9:20). It looks like a place you shouldn't revisit, however; I've gone a few times. The front desk staff, although less professional than others are nice and pretty patient. I've seen Dr. Thomas Malone and he's a very nice man with a good humor and spirit. Unfortunately the entire office, including the instruments and procedures are excruciatingly antiquated. I hadn't had a cleaning that was as labor intensive and painful as that one...ever. I also hadn't gotten the x-rays that take 20 minutes to complete in years either. The last visit included a $300 billing mistake. It was returned but it was completely avoidable. Very nice people just wish the equipment/environment was nicer. read more

If it wasn't for Dr. Malone, I would not have conquered my fears of going to the dentist after years of abuse and fraudulent procedures by previous dentists and con artists. Dr. Baker (who is part of Capitol Hill Dental Associates) has an excellent pediatric practice. Both her and her assistant are great with my three children, all under age 10, the youngest being a toddler. As others have said, the facility--i.e., the space--could definitely use some modernization and TLC, but the place is not dirty, or falling apart. They use clean equipment and provide my children with plenty of stimulating and up-to-date toys and reading material. Dr. Baker is also very efficient and we're always in and out of the chair and don't have to wait very long to be seen. I would highly recommend Dr. Baker to others. read more

I went for an exam as a new patient (without insurance). They were really up front about prices, and worked with me to select a exam and treatment plan that fit within my budget. Dr. Malone and the hygienist were kind, thorough, and quick. The reason I had to get a dental exam was because I am joining the military and it is required. When Dr. Malone - a former Army Captain - learned that that's why I was there, he comped my initial exam fee. I have never, ever heard of a dentist or doctor doing that - and it totally blew me away. I highly recommend this place - genuinely nice people who do a professional and thorough job. I had a painful toothache, and am from Cincinnati. A co-worker recommended her dentist, Dr. Bennye Malone. My experience was very satisfying. I was able to get there fairly easily on Metro's Orange line to Potomac Ave. Dr. Malone has a good sense of humour and bedside manner, and got me in very soon. They accepted my FEP Blue Dental, and even though I was out of my service area, the charges were within reason, especially since she was able to replace my missing filling and kill the pain. Made the rest of the three weeks go well. Since I seem to have tooth issues when I am on the road, and especially in DC, I would call her again to fix my teeth problems. read more

I just moved to the area and was in search of a local dentist for routine cleaning. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist was friendly and knowledgeable - a great start. When I arrived it was a relaxing atmosphere and easy check in. Dr. Thomas Malone was friendly, and very considerate to his staff. He did my x-rays and cleaning himself - a rarity these days. Given that the office is basically an old converted rowhouse, I was worried that some of their equipment would be antiquated. But the computer systems, x-ray, and tools were all state of the art. I really didn't have any pain and out in an hour - overall it was the best trip to the dentist I've had in years. read more

I recently took my two grandchildren (who are petrified of dentists) to Dr. Moorean Baker and not only did they enjoy their visit, they asked when would they be coming back. She has a warm, inviting demeanor with the children and treat each one as if they are her only patients. She explained what was going on with their exams and never seemed to be rushing. The waiting room is quiet, comfortable and clean and the front desk staff are warm and inviting. Never again. After being 15 minutes early and waiting an additional 45 minutes after that, no one ever mentioned to me that they were behind, or talked to me at all. I went to the desk to tell them I had to leave. They asked me if I could wait even longer. I said no and left. I rescheduled, but I have decided not to go to that appointment.
