We really enjoyed our stay at Capitol Hill Hotel. The hotel was very clean, and every employee we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Valet parking was easy and convenient. Our only real complaint was that our room was a little warm, but when we mentioned it to the front desk, they quickly offered to come check it. We declined and opted for a portable fan they offered us as well, as we were only there one night, which helped a lot. Breakfast was good and definitely a nice perk before heading out for the day. The hotel also provides bikes for guests to use. We didn't realize this until later in our stay and wish we would have taken advantage of them! The location was probably one of our favorite things about this hotel. We felt safe walking around, and there are so many places you can easily get to on foot. The Library of Congress and U.S. Botanic Garden are only about a 7-minute walk away. There's also a Lime scooter rental area very close to the hotel if you want another easy way to get around DC. First, the pluses. The picture shown on the website are pretty much accurate. It's a nice place and it's lovely and since we were coming to go to the Library of Congress, it is the most convenient place you could imagine. The breakfast was varied and tasted good and had a lot of options to choose from. The people that work here are incredible. They are friendly, sincere, extremely helpful, and just all around nice people. make sure to tip your housekeeping, valet, etc. They deserve it. I'd say the price was about what was expected. The valet service was $50 a night which makes sense because not everyone will be using it since it's near the Metro and of course a person flying in could be coming in through a car service. We drove and the valet was hassle-free and actually while we were checking out, they brought the car out. It was super fast. our total bill for one night was around $250 in September 2026. Last-minute deals were cheaper, but we wanted to make sure to plan ahead. We did not hear any street noise while we were there. We were on the fourth floor. The water in the kitchen at sink and in the bathroom got really hot really fast, so just be careful, but it is much nicer to have water that is too hot that can be adjusted than to have slow or no hot water. And now for the cons. The first is the doorway from the room where the bed was to the area where the bathroom was, where I pictured my water bottle for scale. My water bottle is 8 inches tall, so as you can see, the doorway is about 24 inches across. I do not know how they get away with this because I believe the ADA compliance is 36 inches but regardless, there is no wheelchair that would get through there and I doubt even a walker would. I don't know if every room is like this, of course, but this room fails on that. There is a small kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, Keurig, and coffee cups, and water glasses and an ice bucket. There's no light in this area so we actually used our cell phone flashlights to be able to see at night for water refills and such. When I went in to take a shower in the morning, I stepped in, and the bottom of the tub was very slippery. I wondered why, and then as I was in the shower for maybe a minute I realized why. The drain is basically almost clogged, so all of my soapy water was lying in the bottom of the bathtub, and I don't believe it was properly cleaned and rinsed out from the last person - or it was, and that soapy water sat in the tub and made it slippery. That is disgusting. I see this more of a maintenance issue rather than housekeeping because if the drain is clogged housekeeping can't really clean it properly. There were two areas in the bathroom where the ceiling had been repaired because there had clearly been a leak from the floor above. There was a torrential rainstorm at about 11 o'clock the night we stayed and I was woken up by a very loud drip where the window was leaking into the room. I ended up putting our bathmat there because it was so much water coming in and it was so loud that I wanted to protect the carpet and stop the noise of the dripping. The bathroom sink faucet goes into one of those bowl type sinks that sits on top of the counter, and the faucet is so ridiculously close to the sink that I could barely fit my hand under it when I was washing my hands. I could not even wash my face because I couldn't get my hands to cup under the faucet to collect enough water to splash my face with. I think that when they built this place, there was a mismatch between bowl fixtures and faucet fixtures. I bet that is in every room. So, to sum up, this hotel has quite a few small drawbacks that add up to me giving it a pass whenever I might want to come back to Washington DC. It's very pretty, but the fundamentals of some of the things should be fixed before they worry about making it look good. read more

This hotel is great! It's clean and the staff is super friendly. There is delicious water, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa for refreshments available 24/7, which was much appreciated. They also serve a pretty great continental breakfast, which was great for our family! The room (2 queen beds) was spacious and had a kitchenette with a microwave, sink, and fridge. This helped save money on food and drinks during our stay! They had quality products in the bathroom. The beds were decent, although a little hard for my preferences. Overall, the stay was great! While the area was safe, the neighborhood lovely, and the hotel located close to the US Capitol and far end of the National Mall, it's not the most happening area. You may want to stay northeast of the National Mall if you want more nightlife options (although there were a few restaurants a short walk on Pennsylvania Ave). We stayed 4 nights in mid March. Splurged for a suite. Like another traveler commented, we stayed while the HVAC had not yet been switched to AC. I had two fans brought to the room and the best I could do was reduce the main room from 84 to 81, and the bedroom from 81to 80. It was very hot and uncomfortable. Frustrating because it was in the 50s outside. If I could have popped a window open, it would have been fine. And as another noted, I too, could not fit my hands under the faucet. But the vacinity was good and the staff was nice. read more

The hotel is conveniently located and the staff is wonderful. The problem was the hotel doesn't have to ability to change their HVAC system from heat to air conditioning. We were there during warm weather in March- when the AC wasn't on. Our room was miserable- 87 degrees and felt like a sauna. The hotel really needs to upgrade their HVAC system. Definitely would NOT consider staying here unless it was in the dead of winter or dead of summer. Very disappointed after paying $300 per night! read more

This hotel was a fine choice for a work trip to DC. I used to live in DC in the Capitol Hill area so I knew I wanted a hotel close to all my favorite places, but there honestly weren't that many options! It was a nice stay for the most part, but it doesn't feel like a typical hotel. Mainly because the main lobby is in a separate building than half of the rooms and then the breakfast is in the opposite building. Very odd. Breakfast was just straight up bad. I opted for oatmeal my first morning (instant packaged oatmeal) and grabbed some granola bars for snacks but otherwise didn't set foot back in there. Also the only options for bowls were also paper bowls? Super weird and feels so cheap for the price of the hotel. There are so many better options for bagels or pastries and actual good coffee just steps away in eastern market. The room and bed itself were comfortable and the location really was excellent. I couldn't figure out how to work the TV and there weren't any instructions and the towels were barely big enough to wrap around me so it just felt sloppy for such an expensive hotel. The staff was nice so I probably could have asked for help with the TV but just didn't think it was worth it for the amount of time I spent in my room, seeing I was out for most of the day. I will probably try another hotel next time I'm in town but it's a real bummer because this location is just so good. read more

The location for this hotel is great as it's super close to all of the sites you would want to see in Washington. You can also get lucky on the weekends and find free street parking. However, don't expect for it to be a nice high end hotel it might appear to be on their website. The lobby area is nice but the rooms looked like a bad real estate flip. Something that was done in a rush and as cheap as possible. The breakfast room was a complete mess. The way they designed this space was not ideal or they just didn't think there would be more than 6 people at a time eating there on a weekend. The food was an average free continental breakfast but people kept bumping against each other trying to make a line to get food and against those that had already gotten their food and were trying to sit and eat. Giving it 4 starts just because of service and location but wouldn't stay here again. read more

Whatever your total is, add around an extra 1k. I stayed here March 16-22 for a work opportunity through my university. I worked with my university and my employer to research the best place to stay and Capitol Hill Hotel was recommended. Let me go ahead and give the concession that I am a graduate student working with university funding, not a luxury vacationer. I paid the full cost of my stay up front months before my trip and, upon check-in, was ready to get my keys and go on. To my surprise, when I checked in the (very nice man, mind you) clerk let me know I needed to pay the deposit separately. I know these things exist but I had assumed this was a part of the fee I paid when booking. Apparently not. Ultimately I had no choice but to pay it and gave them my card. The deposit ended up being $500+. This was money taken from my personal account that I had used to budget for food for my stay. I was told this would go back on my card once I left but it was a large chunk of change of money wiped from my account. I checked out on Saturday the 22nd and was told I would see the funds back on my account. It is now Tuesday the 25th and I have just been hit with another $200 charge from the hotel. This is on top of the $500 they took out for deposit which has yet to go back on (I'm sure that's a bank issue, but still). This morning I called the hotel and they said this was for a "hotel fee" and that there was nothing they could do. The person on the phone transferred me to the manager who did not answer and I have not heard back. This is absolutely ridiculous and I have never had this issue at a hotel or resort before. I had no damage or cause for extra cleaning to the room (although they had left towels in the room when I had checked in). The hotel staff were nice and the beds were comfortable. But from a business standpoint I feel absolutely taken advantage of. I don't see how it's fair to have these surprise fees in the amounts that they're charging. Why weren't the incidentals and "hotel fee" (which still never explained to me) not a part of the booking fee? Let's forgo the deposit, how is it fair to charge me $200 for seemingly no reason days after checked out? This makes me want to get a new card number because what's stopping them from charging me a random fee a month from now? If you're the type of person who can afford hundreds of dollars added to your stay, I say this hotel has lots of benefits. If you're like me and on a limited budget, I say to book somewhere else. read more

This hotel was the best part of D.C. It's literally 2-3 blocks away from The Capitol, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress. Not only that, but there's a lot of restaurants within walking distance too. The service at this hotel was top notch. We were greeted with friendly smiles everyday and every one went above and beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome. Our 1 bedroom suite was great. So clean and there was so much room for the 3 of us. The bed was comfy, living room was huge, and there was a TV in the living room and bedroom! Also blackout curtains throughout. You can also request a free pack n' play. To top it off, they use L'occitane bath products which smelled amazing. Valet service was $50 a night but our car was brought out promptly every single day with in/out privileges 24/7. It's really the only option as street parking was nonexistent. There was a $28/night mandatory "resort fee" that included breakfast. Breakfast consisted of toasted waffles/bagels, eggs, sausage, potatoes, cereals, and juices. Basic but definitely filled our bellies adequately everyday. There was also 24/7 hot tea, hot chocolate, coffee, and fruit water in the main building which was awesome. This neighborhood is definitely very high-end, safe, and the hotel paid a lot of attention to detail to ensure an amazing stay. read more

I booked this hotel through Priceline. The room was the Junior Suite with one Queen bed. The room was not very nice. It almost seemed like an afterthought. Like they made a room that wasn't originally a room, a room. The bathroom was incredibly small. There was no air vent and no door to the immediate bathroom; but the bathroom is connected to the closet which does have a door. ‍ I stayed on the first floor in one of the buildings---the one where you check in. Breakfast is in another one of their buildings that requires you to take a short walk outside. The bed was not comfortable and the linens were incredibly stiff. You can hear everything! I heard a guy blowing his nose. Lots of sounds and lots of doors opening which in turned caused my door to make a noise each time. The heat needed to be turned off asap because the room was overheating. I didn't turn it on at all during my stay. The rooms were clean. The breakfast included was decent(e.g. eggs, sausage, cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, and muffins mostly). This room didn't make me want to stay again at this hotel unfortunately. The room was very comfortable and well appointed, the staff couldn't have been nicer. If I were to criticize anything a better coffee bar in the room would be it. Very nice hotel. We had a suite with two queen beds, dining area with table and chairs, sitting area and full kitchen. A walker can't fit through the door to the bathroom, which made it challenging to use. However, we needed a handicapped bathroom, but those rooms were not as nice. Booked and prepaid for my room two weeks in advance. Arrived and was told by a very cavalier front desk man that my reservation was cancelled and that they were out of rooms. Apparently they overbooked and the booking agent didn't bother to tell me? Why reserved a room (definition Reservation) and prepay ( no refund four days prior to the "reservation") if you don't set aside said room?? I booked on Trip.com and they weren't told, so they didn't contact me either. Wonderful location and excellent staff. Extremely accommodating and friendly. The room was very comfortable, breakfast was in the building around the corner. I was a little disappointed that my TV signal didn't work. The staff tried to fix it with another TV, but it appeared to be the cable was the problem underneath the new carpet. Other than that, the place is clean, not too big, and very close to restaurants and the Capitol Hill South Metro and a stones throw to the Library of Congress buildings (The Madison, Jefferson- the one that's beautiful and The Adams. Each building has a reading room with different subjects. If you're coming to tour, you would go to the Jefferson. It has the huge reading room and very ornate. What a great hotel. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite, checking in on Friday, February 16th and checking out on Sunday, February 18th. First off, the staff are just wonderful. I can only speak of the morning staff as we were gone most of the day, but there were two different gentlemen working on Friday morning, around 9:00am, and on Saturday morning, around 9:00am, and a woman working Sunday morning, around 9:00am. We had interaction with all three and they were just lovely, welcoming, helpful people! We had questions and/or concerns and they were all so very helpful and friendly. That alone is an indication of the level of service/standard at this hotel. I wish I had names, but I just want to make sure they get a call-out for exemplary service! The room was very nice - homey and super quiet. The only negative I have is the bathroom sink; the waterspout does not come out far enough, so we found that our hands were hitting the bottom of the sink while trying to wash. Besides that, we loved everything about the room. Bed was comfortable and so was the pull-out sofa we had for our teen son. The room was very clean and tidy. We had an issue with the television in the bedroom not working, and when we called front desk who sent a maintenance person up immediately to rectify the situation. We didn't realize there was breakfast included with our stay, and it was so nice to be able to grab something to eat on our way out the door. Also, they offer complimentary coffee all day as well as lovely cucumber and herb water, which was very refreshing. This hotel is owned by the Shah family which they purchased for $57 million. It's hard to believe that based on the condition of this place. Here are a couple of pictures taken in my room. Although they offer a nice breakfast, the dining area is cramped and very difficult to navigate with uneven tables and very heavy uncomfortable chairs. Hotel is about 100 years old and in poor condition despite being recently remodeled. This place needs a lot more than a coat of paint and just carpets. It has that, but the structure itself is outdated and badly. The front door to my room didn't close unless you slam it shut really hard. Based on all the slamming doors I heard well throughout the night from the hallway, it appears that everybody has this exact same problem. Bathrooms are tiny and the only way to access the bathroom from my room was to go inside the closet. Total tourist trap for suckers at almost $300 per night. Won't be coming back; Neither should you. read more

Stayed here a couple of times as it is a couple of blocks away from the Capitol Hill, the Rayburn Office Building. If you have business on the hill this is a great place to stay. The hotel is actually two buildings. One has the reception, the coffee room, rooms, and the other has the breakfast room and more rooms. The rooms are spacious with a modern interior, good (if small) bathrooms, and great internet. The rooms are relatively quiet. The breakfast is very basic continental with eggs, bread, juice, and coffee. It is an OK breakfast, but you may want to go elsewhere. They have all day coffee in the lounge / coffee room. They have serve wine 5-7 in the lounge. Great way to start an evening in DC. read more

So I chose this hotel because it was associated with a festival we were attending one April weekend. It was fairly close to the RFK Stadium via cab, which I was happy to see they regularly had them waiting outside the door. I actually arrived via cab and the bellman immediately took my bags as the driver unloaded my luggage. I have to say, he really took care of me the whole weekend, I wish I could remember his name, but it started with a D. He was so sweet. Check-In went smoothly and I was happy to know I'd be in the building with the check-in desk, instead of next door, less hauling my stuff. The hotel is beautiful by the way. The lobby isn't very big, and it was a bit crowded when I arrived, but everyone worked around each other. I was honestly shocked when I entered the room. I didn't know they'd give me one of the one bedroom suites. It was clean, smartly decorated, with a nice view of the street and buildings. It was SO big! I mean it was really like an apartment, minus having a stove. There was however all of the amenities you could want. Microwave, fridge, sink, real dishes, real silverware, counter space, beautiful bathroom. Which had really nice smelling toiletries to take and shared shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner attached to the wall in the bathtub. We had a king size bed, very comfortable, there was AC in the living room and the bedroom, which I loved. And a door to the bedroom in case you needed the extra quiet. They offer free wine in the evening and breakfast, although I didn't partake in either. I did, however, enjoy their cucumber water. OMG, it was so refreshing I wish I'd brought my big cup with me. The neighborhood is really great. We ate breakfast at a little dinner just around the corner twice. There were also plenty of restaurants within walking distance or you could get just about anything delivered. The metro is also a short walk away and that makes it even more accessible to anyone wishing to stay here. I would definitely stay here again! read more

My wife and I are repeat visitors to the District, but this time we brought my parents. We don't normally travel with my folks, so this presented a few challenges. It was their 45th anniversary. My wife & I decided to take them on a long weekend type of trip... frankly 45 years of marriage is something to be extremely proud of. We've told them that if they've got the guts to keep it going for 50, a BIG trip is in the cards. We needed a location with some specific things. We needed to be close to transportation and have solid access to Uber/Lyft pickups because no way were we renting a car and paying to park it all weekend. It needed to be close enough to the action that my parents could even walk (they are perfectly able in their mid-60s, but like MOST people of their age they do get tired after multiple days of walking) to some of the sites. This narrowed it down to a dozen or so places. We LOVED this neighborhood when we found it on our last visit in 2015. We saw the good reviews and my wife really liked the photos fellow travelers posted. The price was right and our decision was made! The Capitol Hill Hotel would be our home away from home. I was even able to email the hotel and ask for a few specific requests. They went above and beyond to make these happen. We didn't ask for the moon, just some room location requests, an hour early check-in, and a note about the occasion. PERFECT! They didn't blink and made it all happen. When we arrived everything was in order as requested AND they even gave my folks a bottle of bubbly and some treats! The staff were so nice and welcoming. They made sure we knew that they were there for any needs. The hotel is spread over 2 buildings, but we were in the main building. I'll let them keep their 5 stars... but I have a serious note for the management... YOUR DOORS ARE ENTIRELY TOO LOUD!! All of them. You could hear every person on your side of the floor because they all SLAM shut and it is annoying. The doors inside the room are too loud, also. I'm a very hard sleeper and my wife woke me up twice getting up in the night because the bathroom/closet door squeak awfully and close very loudly. This is small potatoes, but seriously needs fixed. We heard a couple of other people in the library (lighter than continental breakfast, 24/7 water/tea/coffee, and weeknight wine tastings in the library) complain of the same door thing during our visit. We mentioned it to the lobby staff and they just nodded and apologized. Back to good stuff, the beds were awesome. The pillows were awesome. The windows all have blackout shades and that was awesome, although my mom couldn't figure it out without calling me. The a/c was great and the TV was great with a large channel selection. They have ample charging options and plenty of outlets. The room was large and having the tiny kitchen was great. I'm not sure if all rooms have the kitchenette, but both of our rooms did. The Wi-Fi was strong, fast, and free. The toiletries were pretty good and nothing smelled crazy. My mom and dad had a blown bulb in their bathroom and a dead battery in the safe. We checked in, dropped off our bags, and were heading directly to lunch around the corner. On our way out we told the front desk and it was fixed before we came back. That's excellent service. Things need maintenance, but if you fix it pronto you are gold in my book. Staff A+ Location A+ Feel of hotel A+ Décor A+ Doors C- (they still worked!) We would gladly stay here again and recommend it to anyone who needs a base to do touristy stuff from. It's around the corner from a Starbucks, many restaurants, and a quick walk to the National Mall and the East End Market. There were plenty of taxis, Uber, and Lyft drivers always close by. It is only 15 minutes to Reagan airport by car or about 35-45 minutes by Metro. It is a 5-10 minute walk to the Library of Congress and Supreme Court and you can board the circulator bus there. It is about 5 minutes or so to the Capitol South Metro station which serves the blue, silver, and orange lines. Great stay! read more

Staff held the door and moved my luggage right away. They had a polite and welcoming yet non pretentious demeanor. The lobby was pretty and comfortable for relaxing while waiting for my room. There were also many interesting places within walking distance. It was surprising to have my room be in a different building, but not too problematic as it was within a block. It was also the same building that continental breakfast was served in Honestly, continental breakfast was a bit basic, but not bad enough for me to remove a star. The room was wonderful - re-cleaned daily - fresh towels daily - comfortable beds - good shower pressure - nice soap/shampoo/conditioner/body wash - extra toilet paper when I asked - robes, umbrella and safe in closet - kitchenette with table - teabags, mugs and microwave - The sink was built in a way that made it difficult to rinse my wrists, and as I always wash them with hand washing, I ended up rinsing them with the shower Again, staff were excellent. Sean, Tiana and Abbas were the ones I found the names of. The person who delivered the extra items I asked for was also excellent. Loved that it's apparently pet-friendly, and I know others from the group did too! We didn't bring pets but the ones we saw were a bonus One suggestion - add the 24/7 coffee to both buildings. It was okay walking all two minutes to the other building for free late night coffee, but would have been even more convenient if it was in the same building. read more
