I'm mainly a restaurant review guy, but when I run across exceptional value and service, I have to spread the word. The front and rear brakes on my 2015 Tundra finally needed to be replaced. Not to mention the front rotors were warped, making the steering wheel shake when I put my foot on the brake pedal. A friend of a friend of mine suggested that I try Capitol Mobile Brake Service and gave me the owner's phone number. I contacted Joel and he asked what day would work the best for me. I asked him if he worked on Saturdays and he said he did, and asked me what needed to be done. I told him front and rear pads and turn the rotors. Although he is a mobile brake service, he does not have a mobile brake lathe. We set the date and time for today and I met him at about 11:00am. Joel quickly had the front wheels off, then the rotors and started turning the rotors while replacing the pads. Joel said the rears might not even need replacing but that he would check. He had my rear tires off in a flash and yes, they were also worn out. Joel did say the rear rotors were just fine, saving me some money. All in all, it took less than 90 minutes and I was back on my way home with no steering wheel wobble. Joel did a LOT of work in a short amount of time and he did it for way, WAY less than the Toyota dealer. So after going to an actual shop, they told me you are supposed to change the rotors even if they look and feel new because if you change just the pads you will experience the high pitch noise when braking more than with the old pads, AVOID this guy he just takes your money CASH and doesn't fix the car right, he also doesn't give out any receipt your word against his. He works out of his garage, and allowed me to either watch him work or wait on his porch at a patio table. The area felt safe and secure. I can not say enough nice things about Joel!! This man, someone I have never met before today, literally saved my soooo much of my money and time. I woke up yesterday and backed out of my driveway and my brakes were grinding. I freaked and called Les Schwab for an appointment the following day, a Saturday. I get to my appointment at 8am and leave my car to run errands. Tell them no rush just let me know when it's done. Schwab calls me at 3pm to tell me the whole list of things wrong and I proceeded to explain we can take care of those but today I just need the brakes done. Took another of my cars to him this time my ac wasn't working and I was hoping it might be a quick fix. After a few texts messages going back and fourth he told me to bring it in to look at it. Well he got under the hood moved a few things around then hooked up machine with hoses. After 35-40 min he came back out and said ok it's charged up I added dye to see if it's leaking somewhere so if it stops working bring it back and I'll look at it again. I drove off with cold a/c after about a week or so it blew out nothing but hot air :( I was thinking about going back sent him a text and we played phone tag for a bit. Asking what kind of car and what was wrong with it etc. I was hoping he would remember or at least save number to car he worked on. I dunno just felt a bit unorganized and with the heat already here I needed it fix ASAP. What a great experience, I was visiting Sacramento with my family and had trouble with my brakes on my 2017 Honda Odyssey. I got an $1,800 quote for new front brake pads, rotors, and struts on a 2007 Nissan Altima. My jaw nearly dropped to the floor! I was skeptical about the need for new rotors and struts because that was never put on my radar before from the shop. Also the brakes did not make any sound and the car was still riding great. Yes he is not great at texting back but if you were to go to any other establishment you would place a call and schedule an appointment. If you call Joel he addresses all issues and gets you an appointment right away. 2. Joel's work is professional, he is honest about the condition of the problem that you have. He will even let you know if he doesn't think the problem needs to be addressed at that time. We found ourselves stranded in Sacramento on the Monday evening of Labor Day weekend this year. We were coming back from Tahoe, got a flat about 80 miles east of Sacramento (near Tahoe) at about 5:30pm. We called a bunch of tire places, but none were open. The ones that were open could not do it that evening for some reason. We luckily hit upon Joel's business and he responded to our message promptly. He seemed like a very direct guy. He was very clear about price and was very understanding even though we were desperate. He told us that if the tire is fixable, we will be out in 10 minutes. We reached his place around 8:30pm. The tire had a big cut and it was not fixable. He said he does not have new or used tires, but if we can find/buy a tire from somewhere, he would be happy to install it. But where to get the tire? No stores were open. He suggested a truck place, but upon reaching there we learned that the place did not sell car tires, only truck tires. (To Joel's credit, the truck place used to sell car tires a few years prior. It has just discontinued.) Joel kept working in the background in the mean time trying to contact a friend of his if he had a tire. No luck. We called big stores like Walmart; they were closed too. At that point, we thought we will have to stay in Sacramento for the night! When we told our status to Joel, he asked us to wait for 20 minutes and he will get back to us. After 20 minutes, he asked to wait for another 15 minutes and that point we were not sure if we will get the tire. Then he texts us to come to his shop. When we reach, this amazing story unfolded: he had gone to a tire shop junk yard in search for a discarded tire to put on our car temporarily so we can get to Bay Area that night and get the new tire later. He could not find tire of the right size, but he found one that was slightly smaller. He put that on our car, comforted us that it would be good for few hundred miles, and we were ready to go! That was a miracle in action! Being able to get back on the road after all doors seemed shut! And despite our desperation, he asked for very reasonable amount of money for all his efforts. Actually, less than what we thought was reasonable! But we knew he deserved more! And if that were not enough, he checked on us via text a couple hours later to make sure that we were doing fine on our drive back to San Jose. Who cares that much about their customers? I really appreciate how much out of his way Joel went to help us. He is really a guy who would do everything in his power to help you. I highly recommend his business.
