My mom (85) has spinal stenosis and has been getting epidural shots which stopped working so they recommended the Minuteman procedure. They told her they were so excited for her and confident this this was gonna help and most people find relief the same day others will take a week, but it'll make a drastic difference. My mom lives alone and She had the procedure on a Thursday and it was recommended that I stay with her for the next 24+ hours after the surgery which I did and thank God I did cuz the next (Friday) barely 18 hours after the surgery her legs felt like wet noodles and she fell twice that same day . The second time we had to call ambulance and she went to ER cause she couldn't walk. I left endless messages with the messaging service. And nobody ever called us back. Later found out the clinic is only open till noon on Fridays I mean, why would you perform surgery on the person knowing the next day you're not gonna be available in case something happens Then on Saturday, one of the medical assistance called like he said he would the day of the procedure , to follow up on mom and I told him what happened, but he had no answers for me. I was hoping he'd pass this information along to Dr. Phillips who would in turn call me , especially since my mom ended up in the ER but that never happened After they released my mom from the ER, they had to put her somewhere because she was in no condition to go home so she had to go to skilled rehab Finally on Monday evening, Dr. Phillips called me told me he just found out that day and said It must've been a muscle spasm. So after the surgery on my moms first follow up appointment, she was hoping to talk to Dr. Phillips about what happened once again he was not available. She had to talk to the nurse practitioner Well, it has been three week since my mom's surgery and the promises of oh yes you're gonna feel so much better. We're very hopeful. is gonna work and she's worse than before she went in. Her legs are still very weak. She still has pain so here it is June 29 and I'm trying to get an appointment to find out why what we can do about it but guess. Nothing on schedule until July 30 she's gotta wait another entire month of pain and suffering. What a disappointment to first of all give her false hope by saying how confident they are that shes gonna feel so much better and then end up with complications afterwards and then almost a month still feel the same if not worse and nobody over there cares. Took a day off from work and went here for extended pain management after a calcaneus (heel) fracture, stress fracture of metatarsal, and ankle sprain event that occurred all at once. After slowly working back to walking again, I'm attempting to do PT, but the pain is still intense, and sleep is difficult. Orthopedist doctor prescribed me Vicodin, and when I asked for an extension, referred me here. Was billed a $160 copay only to be told by the doctor that they don't prescribe opiate/opoid pain medication there, and they could maybe evaluate me to see if my condition was appropriate for Gabapentin. According to her, it's the only thing she can prescribe! Complete referral disconnect, organization name is misleading, no treatment rendered, but they still received my HSA payment. My only options now are supplements and OTC meds - not that they care. read more

I went in to have an epidural injection and the doctor missed and punctured my spine. I am now permanently damaged, have very little use of my left hand, have a hard time lifting my left leg to walk, I trip and fall often. I can't hold anything in my left hand . They made me permanently handicapped. This place is like a Assembly line get patients in and out as quickly as possible rush through the procedures without Care. They wanted to send me home after the procedure and I insisted upon going to the hospital where they put me on IV steroids for three days, but I'm still damaged and always will be. SUMMARY: They tried to squeeze us for an exorbitant amount of money, and were secretive/sleazy about the whole thing. DETAILS: When I tried to set an appointment, they said because the injury is part of a legal case (we're suing the person who caused the injury), Capitol Pain refused to take our insurance, and said we'd have to get a Letter of Protection (LoP) from our lawyer. (An LoP guarantees the provider gets paid out of the settlement when the case settles.) We've seen DOZENS of other providers and NONE of them have demanded an LoP, so I couldn't understand why Capitol Pain insisted on an LoP, why wouldn't they just go through insurance and get paid right away, rather than waiting for the settlement? So I asked why they insisted on the LoP, but they refused to answer, saying only that that was "our policy". Okay, I asked, but WHY is it your policy? They refused to answer. I finally figured it out: With an LoP, the billing completely bypasses insurance, so there's essentially no limit on the amount the provider can charge. That's why they refused to answer why they insisted on the LoP. Once I realized there was no insurance company cap on the price, I wrote and asked what the typical cost for the procedure would be? Staff replied, and I quote, "That's a conversation I'm open to having with your attorney and would depend on policy limits of the case." In other words, the amount they'd charge would depend ON THE AMOUNT WE RECEIVED FROM OUR LAWSUIT! That is just incredibly, unbelievably sleazy. I was a patient for years and for years it was great. However recently they've gotten too big and you're just a number. My doctor left and my transfer of care not only took forever it never happened. They now want me to change my medication that they prescribed for 10+ years. I said but it what you've given me and what works... oh okay well then we no longer want to see you. So now I am past my refill date and instead of helping I was told sorry we can't do anything for you.. So now no meds no time to find another doctor and no one cares.... I would get it if I was asking to change or increase or had any issues with my current medication. I was scheduled for lower back injections which I had been receiving from Dr. Schocket for several years but this time I was transferred to one of his "associates", Dr. Andrew Phillips. Then in the prep room I was told that because the nurse I had spoken to with the medication instructions, who had told me not to take Ozempic for 5 days prior to the injections, was incorrect the procedure would be cancelled. I was in bad pain and asked to talk to talk to the nurse. After walking me to the front of the prep area she finally came up and finally apologized for giving me the wrong instructions. By that time Dr. Phillips was asking me to leave the clinic and to reschedule. I received a call a day later from Sherry and was told that Dr. Phillips and Dr. Schocket had a "meeting" at the end of the day and had decided that I needed to find a different clinic for pain. I asked why and she said because I was rude to the nurse who had given me the wrong instructions. I said, "but she apologized, and I'm hurting and need the injectins". She said she would be sending me a letter with a list of other doctors I could see... Yesterday I received a certified letter signed by Dr. Shocket saying "Due to your violation of the opioid agreement that you signed I feel that the doctor patient relationship has compromised" and closed by saying I need to go to another practice! In short, I have never taken opioids, just another lie. I have no idea what they told his that caused him to write such a farcifull letter, but it was a mistake on his part to do so. I called my attorney this morning and I will be seeing him this afternoon. I advise EVERYONE to stay far away from all locations of Capitol Pain Institute. read more

at first I was overjoyed to meet Dr. Andrew Phillips and had high hopes that my back pain was going to be taken care of. On July 1st I had an epidural injection between L4-L5 and felt wonderful until the morning of July 4th. By 3:15 pm by pain was excruciating to the point of tears. My husband called the number listed on the discharge instructions. By 3:40 no calls. I asked my husband to take to ER which he did. At this point my pain level was Level 9. The ER doctor prescribed enough pain medication to get me through the weekend and which helped immensely. On Monday morning I called the office twice. The answering took my calls. I did not hear from Capital until July 10th. I was going to have another procedure with Dr. Phillips but decided if this was the way his office neglect, there was no way I was going to allow Dr. Phillips or his stay inject me again. I called my Insurance office and my primary. Today I hear from Sherry who informed me this was the first time she has heard about this. What a sorry reason to give a patient. My dog went to the Vet on Monday, the vet's office has checked with on Tuesday and Wednesday. My dog is getting better care than I am! How sad is that. read more

I started with the famous Walter Reed military hospital in Washington DC . I've had over nine physicians care for me during that time. Dr. Ganti is the best of the best. His knowledge, skilled hands and patient care exceed all of those that I've known, and I have known some of the best. I have many injuries from my 32 years in the military. Dr. Gandhi provides me a good quality of life that I would not otherwise have .I am always amazed at how skilled he is and how he takes time to explain each procedure. 4/14/25. Diagnostic Nerve block at Lumbar medial branch nerves done at Kyle clinic. I declined sedation. I did not need it. I will also not need sedation for the second one on 4/28/25 Dr Julia is super expert at this. Quick. Personable, professional. The RN and the two radiology techs did expert care. The care quality is questionable at best. I went there about a year ago and had an epidural done by one of the doctors in that location. The doctor was not very empathetic or understanding of my pain or situation. I felt like I was just another number in que.. Yes, I first had a console with him, then a followup appointment to get the epidural. The epidural was painful and not well understood prior to the procedure being done to me. I wish the doctor had better explained his approach before doing the procedure.... It's been some many months past that I was there for that epidural, and I believe I needed another treatment for my lower back. But before that, I wanted to console with another doctor (They have at least a dozen or more doctors there), and then get another epidural. It was like pulling teeth to switch and see another doctor in that same location...... The front desk assistant told me I had to first see the Department Manager as to why I wanted to switch doctors? I said I just wanted to console with a doctor that accepts my health insurance and can give me a second opinion....and~~~ can give me an epidural. For some reason it was not going well to ask to see another doctor, I felt uncomfortable after explaining several times... lastly, the other heavy-set front desk assistant was purposely over-hearing my conversation with her peer from the front desk into the waiting area!!! That really made me UNCOMFORTABLE, So I said "Never mind, I'll look for another Pain Management Clinic... Thank You"..., and I left. read more

I went here for several years - Dr. Patel was great at first, but after they re-opened from the Pandemic everything got weird. Left and went to another clinic, which was also bad, and finally settled on a smaller practice that doesn't have a surgical center. Amazingly, SO many new options are available to me at the Doctor without a surgical center! That is clue #1 for you. Keep looking for the right fit...not the fit that's easy. I spent 10 years being in pain because an ablation was "the only option" and has to be done at a surgical center, which charges $20,000 to your Insurance for a 5-minute procedure that doesn't work. Clue #2 for you They want you to do surgery at their surgical centers and won't look at any other option. Mystery solved. EDIT: After reading some other reviews, yes...they treat you like a drug addict. After 10+ years on a medication, there is no "high" or fun...it's just pain relief. But, we are easy targets. Ironically, this has forced me into the arms of the people that the Laws were supposed to take down. A person in pain will do anything to not feel that pain. Felt doctor Cowan was knowledegable and performed well, bed side manner left something to be very much improved upon. Too much script and all business. Did not feel she had much interest in me as patient. My problem was that in the surgical center I asked her a question about my shoulder pain, not related to my current issue, and if I could take Tylenol for the pain. Her response was that she would only answer in an office visit when Insurance would cover it. Not what I expected. Such a simple question! I have been a patient of Dr. Schocket and his PA, Mallorie Salazar, for three years now. After 7 back surgeries, I had about given up on reducing my pain; I thought all I could do was manage it. Dr. Schocket recently performed a new procedure, Via Disc, on me and the impact has been remarkable. My pain level has been cut by 50% and I am actually beginning to reduce my pain medicine consumption. This wasn't the first thing I tried, obviously, and nothing works for everyone - but this has been a game changer for me. read more

I have only good things to say about CPI and it's staff. Dr Amasha treated me like a human being, not a "case." He listened to me and told me that the information that I provided was very helpful in pinpointing the origin of my pain. In order to treat my pain while honing in on the affected spinal nerves, he first injected the area around two adjacent spinal nerves. That helped the pain in the front of my leg but not the pain in my glute or groin, so the second time he injected the area around the next two spinal nerves. That resolved the rest of the pain. Unfortunately, the relief only lasted about ten weeks, so I hope to have another set of injections asap. The facility's staff for the procedure were wonderful too! They tried to keep me comfortable and explained everything that was going to happen. The anesthesia nurse listened to my requests for the first procedure and, since the anesthesia was so good the first time, after discussion with me, she only eliminated the pre-procedure anti-anxiety medication, which I didn't think I needed for the second procedure. In summary, I highly recommend CPI and hope to have another procedure there ASAP! read more

I've been seeing the Dr for back injections. I've tried to receive back injections with and without anesthesia. I decided that anesthesia was better for me however when the Dr/surgeon came in to inject my back I WAS NOT SLEEP YET. The reason why I decided to use anesthesia was because i didn't want to be in distress from the pain at the injection site. My insurance paid for me to use anesthesia, but the Dr/surgeon couldn't wait for it to take in effect. I had to yell "IT HASN'T KICKED IN YET, I CAN FEEL THAT!" I suddenly felt that there was no compassion amongst any of those healthcare providers who were there for my care. read more

Where should I begin?! I've been trying to get an appointment was approved by my workman's comp since 5/13/24!! They called me several times telling they reached the maximum number of tries to get the approval by my workman's comp!!! The damn approval has been there since May 13th ! I specifically asked if they will send me a reminder text!! They made me miss two appointments, both times they said they would send a reminder text. I said to them I have to have a reminder text the day before. Both times they said they would send a reminder text. they left a voicemail asking if I was on my way! on the day of the appointment!!!! This is twice they have been lied to about having the capabilities to send a text message ! Get it together!!! The manager finally got in the phone and proceeded to yell at me. They have over booked him and cancel his appointment when he shows up a few time. They did the same for a procedure also. I came here and saw Dr. Amasha after being referred to him by my spine doctor. I have had chronic back pain for years to include sciatica issues. My chronic back pain I try to ignore and work through but it was getting worse since 'rona. Dr. Amasha and I discussed my options on how I can manage my issues. We worked together and formed my treatment plan for steroid injection for my L5-S1. Otherwise known as transforaminal epidural steroid injection (TESI). I was able to schedule this procedure about less than two weeks out. It was hard to schedule my procedure appointment with the scheduler for some reason. I don't know how well the TESI will work for me but only time will tell. read more

I'm at a complete loss about anyone not liking Dr. Desai. She is a wonderful doctor and very caring. I have had back problems for about 10 years now. It's progressively gotten to the point where I must see a pain mgmt doc, take medication, and have shots and do ablations. However, I truly believe that Dr. Desai wants people to try and get off the harsh medications and do what PT you can to help yourself. She's never been anything but caring and even has met with me virtually when needed. Her assistants were helpful and the surgical center next door is a great place as well. The pain mgmt business is tough. Insurance gives these doctors complete hell when they try to prescribe a better quality medication, but sure...the insurance is happy to pay for you to have something you'll get addicted to...eyeroll. At Capitol pain they always drive to get you the best treatment and will go to war with your insurance company. I like them and would say just like with any review, take some of these with a grain of salt. CPI is a great place with helpful people. read more

This is the most poorly run business I have ever encounted. I got an epidural steriod shot on January 4th that was not done correctly. I had to wait another 6 weeks to get another shot which I got from Republic Spine & Pain. Capital Pain took my $240 Medicare deductible and Republic Pain also took the $240 deductible. Republic Spine and Pain filed their paperwork before Capital Pain. I called Capital Pain back and they agreed I was owed the $240 and would get a check in the mail which has been 3 weeks ago. Now they are telling me they need to hear back from secondary insurance and could take 90 days. This has been going on since January 4, 2023. They will not return calls and the manager, Leslie from the billing department will not call back. I will never refer Capital Pain to anyone. read more

My pain provider, Balcones Pain, recently joined forces with Capitol Pain. I visited my Dr. at Balcones Pain Thursday and he sent my prescription to my usual drugstore. Friday afternoon they informed me that due to vendor problems they could not fill it and suggested I try to find another store. They also informed my doctor of the problem. I called BP to give them the new drugstore info but they are closed Friday afternoons. I left a detailed message but only got a stock text in return saying I would be contacted. I was never contacted. I tried every phone number for both places and was either cut off or never talked to anyone. Capitol Pains message said no prescriptions would be filled on weekends. read more

I usually have no issue with this office, until recently. I saw my doctor last Thursday and he offered a great alternative to what I was experiencing. He was going to call in a new medication so can take a break from my old one because it had stopped working after taking it for many years. I was happy to reset everything so I can hopefully go back to it in a few months. But when I went to pick up my meds that one wasn't there. It was the weekend so I called back today and spoke with the staff and he said that it showed the transmission for that one failed. Ok. No big deal. He put me on hold and said he would call it in to the pharmacy. He came back on line and said the pharmacy had it. I called the pharmacy awhile later and they said nobody called it in. I called the office back and spoke with someone else who seemed bored and not interested in helping. She put me on hold to look into it. When she came back online she completely confused me saying that they were working on the order and someone would call me back. So did they call it in or put and order in for it to be done? Just tell me the truth the first time and I wouldn't care which it is, I don't like being lied to by a doctors office. It leaves me feeling they aren't trust worthy, and that's important to me when we are talking about a patients health. After 23 years at Pain management consultants my Dr retired and Capitol Pain agreed to combine with pain management consultants. After spending a great deal og my life in the hospital following an accident that shattered both wrists and tight leg and nocked out many teeth and caused chronic pancreatitis. Also diagnosed in several hospital s with acute intermittent porphyria which causes severe pain. In 30 years and over 100 Dr visits not one time denied pain medicine till I got here. Been withy job last 22 years thriving with the treatment I was receiving. No issues at all no failed drug tests or pill counts. This Dr met with me for a little over five minutes and discontinued 3 medications that I had been on for 23 plus years including strong anti depressent. No taper or explanation not even a phone call. I am now unable to work and have lost my job and my home. Suffering severe withdrawals sleep deprivation pain and suicidal thoughts. At our brief f meeting he told me that Dr haro was irresponsible and began reciting the opiod deaths repeatedly. My line appointment was all about him and nothing about me. I am now seeking legal counsel as this man destroyed my life and my health. Dr. Amasha gave me an si injection and a few days later I lost all feeling in my left leg for 3 days. I was unable to walk when I went to the er I called the office to inform them of my problems yet nothing was done. No call to the er doc no information was shared.. it was like I didn't exist.... I lost out on work for 3 days. The er said the dr punctured my spine and the meds went into the spinal fluid which caused the paralysis I will never again get an si injection from this place! And bc I refused to be subjected to this treatment I was released from care. Beware procedures like this! If I could give 0 stars I would! The staff is rude and will talk bad about the patients they are incompetent and treat people like drug seekers. The thing that upset me most about this office is the incompetent staff. Dr Amasha says call anything you need we will accommodate then when you call with a need the office coordinator tells you we can't help you! What a crock! Dr Amasha cares more about the feds and what they think our care should be than he does about sticking up for his patients. I wrote to my congressman about this.. I feel all pain center patients should do this the government has no place interfering with our medical care! My PA is great but I can't say that about the rest of the staff. On several occasions Dr. Schocket has not sent my prescription to the pharmacy in a timely manner and I have run out of medication and I am not aware of any system in place to help when this happens especially on a weekend. Also the billing department is totally inept, in fact a medicare person told me I should get a new provider. I am seriously considering finding a new provider. read more

First of all, these reviews are very confusing to me! I have been a patient of Dr. Schocket for 6+ years. He has been instrumental in helping me function from day to day with a number of neurological problems, I have never been on narcotics but have had neurostimulator placement and relocation. In addition I have had many types of injections. Dr. Schocket is kind, compassionate and listens to my thoughts as to how I want to treat my problems. Having worked in the medical field for a career, that is what is important to me. The staff I have worked with go above and beyond to help. Communication is good, although not always immediate. This is a very busy office with many physicians, some of whom see patients in different offices in other areas in central Texas. Selina, the PA for Dr. Schocket is also fantastic. The absolute worst medical "professionals," and staff I have ever encountered. There's a reason their practice has dwindled from 3 locations to one. Why any of these DR's, PA's, NP'S, or MA's are in this field of practice is beyond me, and they absolutely shouldn't be. I'll start with the worst - because the fish stinks from the head down - Dr. Desai and Dr. Schockett. Dr. Desai is 100% AWFUL, rude, and horrible at her job. I had the unpleasant experience of seeing her twice. Both times she came in the room without acknowledging me - no hi, hello, how are you; no history, no questions about my pain, no exam, no eye contact. Just informed me I was too young to have any "real" pain, and I needed to repeat a bunch of procedures and PT again that I have already done, and proceeded to tell me that the very little pain meds I was taking wasn't really helping me with my pain, and if I were to ever have surgery that the pain meds then wouldn't work... false. I needed a note signed excusing me from work, and Dr. Desai in the rudest, most deragotory & condescending tone ever, told me verbatim "it would be a burden for me or my staff to have to fill out paperwork for you." Yes, a BURDEN to sign a statement excusing me from work! Her little nurse Nisha is not any better- another rude, miserable, pathetic excuse for a NP there is who obviously hates her line of work and the patients in it. She must learn from Dr. Desai because she also would come barging in the room with zero greeting, zero eye contact, zero acknowledgement. The first time I saw her she told me - first words out of her mouth - "so I see here you're alleging you have back pain..." as if I were making these herniated discs in my back up. She also told me medications don't work for pain and she would be taking me off all medications (gabapentin, tizanidine, tramadol), and putting me on belbuca (is that not a med also though?), which is a drug they give to people in drug rehab for things like heroin and hard-core addiction problems. She also did not once ever do any type of exam, go over history, pain, etc. I flat-out refused to be seen by her again after my 2nd appointment with her. I've never met a more condescending nurse in my life, and I work with medical professionals. The other PA/NP I saw was Colleen, who is also rude and hates her job and the patients. They wanted me to get more imaging as mine was a few years old, an MRI & 2 Xrays. This was ordered in February, and then we lost half our income to COVID.. she told me on my followup in April if I didnt get it done by my next appt in May I would be fired from their clinic, and there should be no excuse why I couldn't do it and just work out a payment plan with ARA.... I'm sorry, it's either pay my mortgage right now or pay for non-emergency imaging. Nevermind I already have this exact imaging on file, and disorders of the bone don't miraculously improve on their own. I understand they want current imaging that's not 3 years old, but to threaten to fire me as a patient if I didn't have it done in a month is absurd. And the worst one, Dr. Schockett... he should seriously lose his license. He badmouthed & defamed the prior doctors and staff from whom he bought the practice from, and not just badmouthed, but slandered & made false allegations against, to MULTIPLE former patients of the practice, and for this I hope he faces a big-time lawsuit. He's a rude, arrogant meglomanic who creates a hostile environment between patient and doctor, threatens to cut everyone off their meds (and does), and force them into procedures. If you question or don't consent you're labeled as drug-seeking. It is ONLY about the money with him, patients concerns or questions be damned. He also refuses to acknowledge patients. The goal of the staff here is to degrade you, intimidate you, and make you feel like you are the scum of the earth, and you should bow down to their superiority like a peasant - and never ever look them in the eye for you little patient are not worthy. CPI also has questionable practices and will gouge you for every penny. They won't let you schedule TPI's on the same day as your followups, so you and the insurance company have to pay for 2 office visits, and of course make 2 trips to the office in one week. No other practice does this. Please all get jobs where you are not required any direct contact with human beings because not one of you belongs in pain managemnt. Steer clear, there's far too many good doctors, nurses, and PA's out there who will at least do the bare minimum and acknowledge you, address your issues and listen to your concerns, get a medical history, and won't accuse you of making up conditions and tell you "you're alleging" ie lying about/making up/embellishing DDD and cancer pain, and who won't tell you and think you're a "burden" to the dr and her staff. read more
