They mostly use it for local play productions, but you can also rent it out for events. There are stairs as well as an elevator. The main theater stafe is on the third floor while the balconies are on the fourth flour. It doesn't feel that high though. There are slso bathrooms on a couple levels so you don't need to worry about searching too hard. The bathrooms were also clean, automatic toilets, and some had portions or the original brick left in place to add history so a blend of new and old. Comfortable folding theater seats, clear views, and maintained at a good temperature so not warm, but also not freezing like how some places over do it. This venue is along the main route to downtown and right by the new dog fountain so it's easy to find. The location is also very walkable with many other local businesses so it's a nice to walk. There are also plenty of street lights so it's very pretty at night.

Booked tickets online a couple weeks ago, drove up from Columbus, checked in at the gate, and spent the afternoon enjoying the grounds and gardens. Price is $50 per car, there were only 2 of us but we would have been the same for a full car. The experience was simply breathtaking, tranquil, and fun to explore the 9 gardens and art. The gardens consist of: the Waterfalls Garden, Stream Garden, Serenity Garden, Hofstra Garden, Chinese Cup Garden, Japanese Garden, Meadow Garden, Woodland Garden, and the Quarry Garden. My personal favorites are the Quarry, Stream, Serenity, and Woodland Garden and I absolutely love all the art and the various shapes and sizes of the trees and shrubs throughout. The stroll took us about 2 1/2 hours this trip. Open to the public this season from Jun 1st - Jun 25th, 2023. Located in Gambier, Ohio (Knox County) It's about an hour outside of Columbus. The self-guided tour of the gardens allowed for literal roaming of the property off path (as there are no official paths). I had thought this would be a drive-through tour to protect the garden space (pricing is by the car load). I thought I would have 1 hour. When I learned I could walk the grounds at my leisure and literally stay as long as I wanted, I was amazed and ended up staying for almost 3 hours tracing and retracing my steps! We especially appreciated Julie, the receptionist, rounding up some sandwiches for us (They're transitioning to a new food vendor, and the grab-and-go case was nearly empty when we arrived.). We brought our sandwiches out to the gardens, where there are many seating areas with nice views. The historic mansion is beautifully decorated, a window into how this wealthy industrialist lived in the last century. Pam, the docent at the front desk, was full of interesting stories about the family and the house. We were surprised to learn from her that the curtains at the front of the house were the originals from the 1920s. With high ceilings and huge windows, every room has a beautiful view, even the servants' areas. I found the kitchen especially interesting. If you plan to visit Kingwood with small children, I recommend saving the mansion for another day. The beautiful staircase (faux painted with a feather!) has a low railing and wide spaces between the balustrades. It would be easy for a child to slip through and fall to the terrazzo ground floor.
