I was diagnosed with rosacea and treated with doxycycline, Plexion, and later metronidazole. Despite telling her that my forehead continued to worsen and that the sulfur products caused significant burning and irritation, my treatment continued along the same path. After seeking a second opinion from another dermatologist, I was diagnosed with acne instead. My treatment was changed and over the following months, my forehead improved dramatically. It is now virtually clear with no active spots. I understand that dermatologic diagnoses can sometimes change, but I was disappointed that my worsening condition did not lead to a reassessment of the diagnosis sooner. Those months were extremely stressful and had a significant impact on my quality of life. I hope this feedback encourages the practice to listen carefully when patients report that their condition is worsening despite treatment and to remain open to reconsidering the diagnosis when the clinical course doesn't fit.

She then provided me with her likely diagnosis (which I agreed with, and which dermatologists rarely bother to tell me), and discussed some options with me, as well as what I was currently doing. My regimen didn't change based on the visit, but it made me feel more organized and in control of the situation to consult with someone who knew what they were talking about. She also gave me one or two things to think about as to whether or not I feel that they would be beneficial to start. Overall, two thumbs up- I definitely recommend if you're looking for a dermatologist for a hair-related issue.

Dr Barnett has been my dermatologist for decades (Olney, MD and Rockville, MD offices)--long before…read morehe joined Advanced Dermatology (AD). He is excellent. He is the reason for the 5 star review--not the Advanced Dermatology company (see below). However, the front end access to AD is horrible (e.g., making appointments with a specific Dr, reaching a real person). It is so bad that at times I have thought about switching to another practice even though it would mean losing Dr. Barnett. They have automated access to the point that it is virtually impossible to reach a real person to get help with anything that is not able to be handled by their IT front end (like unusual/non-typical circumstances that you may have that require speaking to a live agent). I find it extremely frustrating to deal with their front end and it seems to be getting worse over time. AD is a huge company that has obviously invested heavily in IT, so it does not have to deal/talk with real live patients. Based on my last interaction, they are employing AI bots (not just chats) to communicate with patients. And worse news, companies like AD have taken over virtually all independent practices so that it is extremely difficult to find an alternative independent practice that might provide better customer service.
