The boat that took us on the harbor cruise was very comfortable and relaxing. We sat on the open deck and had very comfortable seats and views. It was an hour reasonably well spent on the water, and I enjoyed that aspect of it. However, what I didn't enjoy was the fact that the person steering the boat, I'm assuming the captain of the ship, was also the person doing the talking. For the ENTIRE time on board, I didn't hear ONE word of what he said, and he was the one responsible for telling us all what we were looking at. It sounded like he was whispering or speaking very softly, or that the P.A. system was turned way down... and the boat engine was just loud enough to completely drown out his voice. Interestingly, I was sitting on the end, and my husband was in the seat next to me, closer to the middle aisle. He could hear "some" of what was being said, whereas I heard nothing. Sadly, my husband is the one with hearing loss, so maybe he would've heard even more. All I know is that I heard nothing but wanted to remain where I was seated because I was the one taking pictures and had the better view. Too bad I had NO idea what I was looking at. So I exited the boat at the end kind of disappointed, but again, it was relaxing being out on the water, so it wasn't a total waste.

I absolutely loved this tour! The crew was awesome all the way from the parking lot and back again. We did the puffin/scenic tour. Seeing them and hearing the story of how they came to be on the island was fascinating. We learned a lot about them and other animals we might see. On the way there and back, if they noticed any wildlife, they would stop so we could see better. We saw porpoises, seal, and a sunfish along with many other birds. It does get chilly so dress in layers just in case. Captain Jerry, Faith, and crew were great. Very highly recommend!

We took the puffin watch cruise and has a great experience! The boat was clean and well taken care of inside and out. Great crew. An Audobon employee gave us a talk about the birds mammals we might see. Then she gave a history of the puffin breeding program. Fascinating! We saw floating and flying puffins even though it was a foggy day. Nice items to buy from Audobon on the way back. Snacks and drinks available on the inside of the boat.

Experience: The captain and the crew were very friendly! The crew helped people take pictures and helped elder folks into their seats. Plenty of deck seating. There are some indoor seating inside this boat for those rainy and cold days! I loved the lobsterman demonstration (catch and release)! It was so educational to learn about Maine's economy and how traditional ways of lobster trapping worked (manual rope and pull technique). We had a great time exploring the harbor on boat and learning about the history of Maine. Parking: Once you get closer to the wharf (where the boat and the business stand is located) it is harder to find a parking spot. Especially in the parking lot where the business is located. We decided to park a few blocks west of the wharf. There was free 3-4 hour parking and it was a good 5 minutes of walking! Bathrooms: There were public bathrooms located at the entrance of the wharf, between the business stand and the main street.

We got rained out in Bar Harbor for our whale watching so we booked one here. The boat was nice and we were able to sit on the top deck. We only saw one whale, but also saw a sunfish, seals and dolphins. I would have loved to see more after being spoiled in South Africa with lots of whales, but it's always fun to go out on the boat. The captain did a good job, and the naturalist had lots of info.

We went on the 10 AM puffin cruise with a naturalist. It was very educational and interesting. The weather was not so great as it was attempting to rain on us part of the time and it was a bit chilly but overall, it was a wonderful cruise. we saw many puffins on Eastern Egg Island, that is the destination. We saw a Harbor Seal, many seabirds and porpoise. Seating available inside and out. Everyone very helpful and pleasant.

We had a meal at Pier 1 before our cruise. My photos during the cruise were in a different cellphone. Too bad that I can't share them.

We took the cruise on 8/14 at 4:30pm from Pier 7. The interpreter was very knowledgeable and showed his enthusiasm in educating the public about Maine's maritime life. This was excellent! I also thought that it was a great idea to arrange kids to touch lobsters. Both my nephews from Switzerland (9 and 6 years-old) loved this experience. They were so excited that they asked us to take pictures of them with the lobsters Anyway it was a great experience for all of my family - 8 of us!

It's one of the best trips I've had while in Maine. Saw lots of marine life, including a humpback whale that circled are vessel for over 30 minutes A1 production. The crew was awesome.

My husband and I took the 3 hour Kennebec River Cruise and it was wonderful in so many ways. We saw osprey, eagles, seals, several lighthouses and the Bath Iron Works ship building company. One of my favorites was the swing bridge. The boat was wonderful and provided many seating options for all kind of needs. There are snacks and drinks one can purchase and the 3 hours went by so fast. What made this trip so memorable was the narration from the captain. So informative and he made it entertaining. My husband is disabled and he loved being outside up front feeling the wind. He had so much fun which made me happy. Thank you.

Enjoyable day at sea, followed the diving of one whale. My wife was excited to see the whale at sea.

Wind did pick up so we sailed at 5 knots nicely for awhile. It was also much cooler on the water than on land, so a welcome relief. And a whole lot is usually going on this ship. The Lazy Jack was built in 1947 and is modeled after the great Gloucester fishing schooners of the last century. It was used for years to haul cargo from Massachusetts down to the Bahamas. Now the great ship is doing the work of hauling tourists around Boothbay Harbor. Under the skilled command of Caption Joe and his son Michael, the ship gives two hour tours around the harbor. Lots of great views of the islands, lighthouses and if you are lucky you might even see a seal, osprey or bald eagle. The two hour tour costs only 32 bucks for an adult and is an very cool experience. Capt Joe just doesn't prattle away the entire trip. He will point out various things of interest and answer all questions but he leaves enough quiet so the passengers can enjoy the sound of the ocean and wind. Unfortunately we didn't have a whole lot of wind so it wasn't as exciting as I hoped but it still was wonderful trip. Just so much to see and learn, the two hours went by so fast. You can bring you own booze and junk food on board and even take a turn at the wheel if you desire. These old schooners take a lot more sail management than the more modern sloops or catboats and just watching Michael and Joe constantly adjusting the sails was quite entertaining and educating. The tour runs from Memorial Day to the end of October and can also be chartered for all day excursions. A fantastic way to spend a couple of hours on the water and easily worth the 32 bucks. We returned all wind blown, a bit wet and a little sore but very, very happy.

For $100 (cash or check only), you receive a 55-minute narrated boat tour, a bonafide Downeast feast (fish chowder, 1 lb. of steamers, 2 lobsters, corn on the cob, a baked potato, an onion, a hard-boiled egg, a large piece of blueberry cake & either coffee, tea, iced tea or water). You can purchase sodas ($2) or alcoholic beverages. We indulged in the light & tasty Cabbage Island Aide ($10), with Pinnacle blueberry vodka, pink lemonade & a splash of club soda garnished with Maine blueberries. Only cash is accepted for drinks and gift shop purchases. After finding a picnic table, either indoors or out, your server will take your drink order & bring your fish chowder. Shortly afterwards, the dinner bell will ring & you head down to the pit where the food is cooked to pick up your meal. Our delightful young server, Griffin, graciously offered to pick up our trays & bring them to our table. He remained attentive & solicitous the entire time we were there. We couldn't have asked for better service. There is a gratuity jar on each table. Tip generously! These kids do a fabulous job! We were also pleased that the two Moore brothers who have owned this family business for 38 years stopped by every table individually to ensure that all were having a good time. And at the end of the day, they stood on the dock waving as our boat left Cabbage Island. Such a gracious gesture! I'm looking forward to making this an annual event. Please be aware, though, that parking is expensive in Boothbay Harbor. There is metered street parking, if you can find an open spot, but be prepared to walk a distance to the ticket booth. Close by lot parking cost $50.
