I really wanted to love it. To have all of those amazing Italian menu options so close to home even at Maggiano prices sounded like a win. But everyone was disappointed. The pasta was fine but not exciting. We got the pesto pasta, chicken marsala, and two pizzas. All of the chicken had an odd consistency and the pizza dough was really off. I've had some New Haven pizza and it's one of my favorite styles. The charred thin crust, the olive oil or marinara, just a little cheese, the coal oven smokiness. This wasn't what I remembered. We ordered the white clam pizza. The crust was way too high. And it was too dry, there needed to be more oil. The server asked if we wanted some more grated cheese. Horrible! 16" pizza that is $33 was burnt and greasy. My husband ordered mushrooms on half the pie, the bill came it was $7 for the mushrooms! So is it $14 add on for the who pie??? We ordered a wedge salad, a sweet Italian pizza and shrimp Alfredo that totaled $75 for pick up. Then they wanted to add 3% extra to use a credit card. Then I was actually told that bread only comes with pasta when you dine in. Seriously 2 pieces of bread would cost extra since we didn't use their table. Went there for dinner Saturday night and food was good. very poor management though. When the entrees were brought out, the waitress brought out 2 slices of bread as well and made it very clear there was one for each of us which was odd. My wife asked for some butter so she brought some out for us. when I received my bill there was a charge of $1.50 for butter. Are you freaking kidding me. We are from NY and I have travelled all over the world and have never been charged for butter. especially a; Italian restaurant. They usually either provide butter or oil. When my wife asked to speak to the manager she stated the butter was homemade. Who care. They should have made us aware and provided us the option if we wanted the butter or not. Lastly it was not removed from the bill. It is like buying a car and then being told the tires are also extra. Because of this we will never return and give them any business. I've gone twice now and I already know this is going to be in my family's regular rotation. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and the food is incredible. We brought my in-laws who are used to quality Italian food from Boston's North End, and they were just as impressed by the flavors and execution. We live two miles away in Fearrington Village. Capp's has been a regular choice for takeout these last two years. Normally, I pass on the Char pizzas and opt for their entrees. We enjoy the entrees although they seem overpriced. And now as other reviewers are commenting, there is a 3% credit card charge. NC tax and tip (15%) and surcharge for a take out meal brings a $185.50 sub-total up to $231.90 (a 25% upcharge). Although we enjoy the entrees and nearby location, we've grown weary of the careless attention to customer service. The restaurant does not seem to have control on delivery time promises and associated customer communications. Just last night after picking up my daughter and granddaughter at RDU from a long trip from California, I placed an online order through Toast at 7:37, well before their stated closing time of 9pm. My food promise time was 8:07. I drove my family home and returned to Capp's to pick up the order. The young girl who was retrieving orders checked and said that a couple of items needed to be finished to complete the order. At that time, the restaurant was nearly empty. One large party of eight had just been seated and a handful of folks were at another table and one person at the bar. So, I stood there and waited...and waited. I saw the dishwasher finishing up and I saw the main pizza guy leave the restaurant. That left two people that I saw in the back, one more experienced looking guy, who was not looking very happy, and a young man. Meanwhile, the party of eight were served, completed their meal and were checked out with their leftovers as were the other folks remaining. I kept asking the servers what was causing the delay in my order and was told that it was bad timing due to the "eight top" being served. Overall, I felt that my interests were not being served in favor of other folks who were eating in and that the staff seemed to know personally. And most importantly, from a customer service point of view communication and expectation management were very poor. By the time I finally got my order at close to nine, they were getting ready to close. I didn't double check my order (ten items) since they assured me that they had, but I did look at the one large pizza and found that it was cold (room temperature). I would have felt better served if they had called me after taking the large eight-top order to cancel mine. At least that would have been evidence that they were more in touch with service delivery capability. read more

Capp's is starting to "jump the shark" with pricing. Ok pasta, not large, $20-$25, 3 oz pours of $15/bottle wine for $10 each, 3% credit card surcharge (!). This is a pizza and pasta joint that's starting to imagine itself as high-end Italian. Which it is not. Easy to spend $60/person with tax and tip for spaghetti. My advice: stick to the good pizza and, so far, fairly priced beer. read more

Wow, I'm a huge fan of Capp's Pizzeria even though I live maybe 40 minutes away? As a pizza lover, I certainly appreciate their Neapolitan-style pies along with all their home-made pastas. I've tried out their margherita, Bee Bomb (soppressata, hot honey) along with their weekend special, clam pie! It is REALLY hard to find clam pies this far south so I consider it to be a special treat. And while I'm usually really full and over-order at Capp's, even their desserts are great and home-made. I did a multi-layer honey cake which was complex and divine. Service has always been solid here and prices very reasonable for what you get. I scratch my head on a lot of the negative reviews here because they are way off the mark. It's rare when you get such a great little Italian restaurant in the Triangle making everything in-house and at decent prices. It's a hidden gem in my opinion and worth even the drive from Raleigh. read more

"Got Char?" Is their logo, and boy do they have it! Unfortunately, it defines this otherwise fabulous pizza. Many have complained about the "burnt' spots and Capps responds proudly on their website: ""My pizza is burned" is something we sometimes hear. These pocks of char are called "leopard spots." They are the measure of a correctly cooked pizza and lend both flavor and texture. "" Unfortunately, while they may look like leopard sports, they are actually just BURNT spots. However, like leopard spots, they do cover the entire crust including the underside (see photos, including one from their website). The resulting flavor they "lend" is one of a very distasteful burnt ash. I tried my best to avoid these spots and enjoy this pizza, but n the end it left a very distasteful ash flavor in my mouth. While I love a charred burger, steak, veggies, etc. I'm sorry, but eating ash is not my idea of good taste, nor do I suspect is very healthy. And I have to say, I've had many similar stone or brick oven-baked pizzas in my long Italian pizza-loving life and all over the world, and some with browning or dark spots, but never have I had anything like this before. Well, they still do the nickel and diming -- charging like $1 and $2 extra for small extra sides of sauce and parmesan cheese that every other pizza place gladly offers for free. But now they also have the nerve to not only charge a service fee when you PICK UP YOUR OWN PIZZA, but also to request a tip on top of that, with options of 15%, 20% and 22%! Capp's is my favorite of all the Pizza Parlors in the Pittsboro area. I am surprised I have not wrote a review before this. We have been here many times in the past. Dining inside, outside , take-out. Never had a disappointing meal. The way they prepare and wood fire the pizza is the key. It is a go to Pizza for me . They are about 16 minutes from my home , but worth the drive. I don't think you would be disappointed, if you like wood fire Pizza. Capp's is the best. read more

Love Capps - my favorite italian! Usually a 5 star but tonight droppin to a solid 4. Fried mozarella was a little disappointing- 2 completely different cookes pieces - one overdone and one underdone and hardly any sauce. This may just not be a good takeout item - but could improve it by maybe putting it in a paper bag so it doesn't steam and get soggy and put the sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy - and more sauce. I'm sure this would be great dine in but they are only open for takeout now. They used to have the best meatball sandwich around, but took them off the menu. If you live in pittsboro it's worth the 10 min drive to pickup here instead of Elizabeth's, marcels, marcos, etc. Pizza is consistently good and has a good crust that is slightly crispy and chewy at the same time. A group of seven of us were coming from a music festival on a big farm, and found ourselves wanting to satisfy an urgent pizza fix. So we looked for the nearest place, and it turned out to be this outstanding restaurant. They have a great variety of pizzas, cooked in their nifty wood-fired oven, and some respectable non-pizza options. The pizzas are all intended as solo entrees, but they are large enough that two people with a modest-to-normal appetite could easily make do with half each. But in this case, six of us ordered six different variations for ourselves. And each of us devoured our choice lovingly. Mine was a pretty standard, yet highly delicious meat pizza. One friend of mine got a chicken curry pizza and it was kind of amazing how quickly he ate it. Everyone else had something different and the reviews were invariably glowing. The one non-pizza order was for a plate of sausages. I wasn't paying attention when he ordered, but he was very impressed that he got four very distinct types of sausage and he loved them all. Our server, Wendy, was so friendly and accommodating that I think she should be in charge of showing the world's restaurant staff how to treat customers. It was a beautiful evening to sit outside in their fine patio, and Wendy went to great lengths to create seating for us. It's pretty close to Chapel Hill, but this location might seem a little out of the way if you're usually in the more heavily trafficked parts of this area. Bearing that in mind, if you want a quality pizza & Italian joint, I recommend that you make the trek. read more

This is Napolean style pizza restaurant. All pies are 12" and their are an assortment of interesting toppings such as soppressata, an Italian dry salami, Capps hot honey, mashed potatoes and golden raisins. The day we visited, there were three of us and two pizzas were enough for all of us. We ordered the BOG, which stands for bacon, onion and garlic. It was amazing with crushed tomato, mozzarella, shaved red onion, garlic, thick cut applewood smoked bacon and oregano. When you visit, however, BEWARE!! We asked for parmesan cheese and the waitress graciously brought us 4 "take home" containers of cheese. Unfortunately when we got the check. We found out that we had been charged $1 per container. We were shocked!! We asked the waitress about it and she explained that it was stated on the menu. She however was very nice and agreed to take off the $4 charge. read more

Excellent food!! Finally tried Capp's Pizzeria in Chapel Hill after having it on my list forever. Got the shishito, ricotta, & house-made sausage, pizza. It was really good! Not only the ingredients on top, but the dough/crust was awesome. Chewy yet crisp on outside. I washed it all down with a great local beer. Got a Kolsch by White Street Brewing, they're out of Wake Forest, NC. For dessert I went with the Panna Cotta & coffee. I was really impressed with the quality/taste of both. The restaurant is smaller than I thought it would be but has bar seating too as well as patio seating in addition to the dining room. Service was excellent, and there's plenty of parking right outside. Guessing that on busy nights overflow of parking could be a short distance away by Breakaway Cafe. Not a bad walk at all. Dig their "I GLUTEN" sticker on the oven. read more

Capp's makes fantastic pizza and has been our go-to through the pandemic. Our experience this evening, however, was so spectacularly awful that it deserves a review. We ordered two pizzas at 6:30pm, and promptly got an email confirmation that the order would be ready at 6:55pm. Capp's only does take out (which is fine), so we showed up and checked in at 6:55; the server told us the pizza wasn't ready yet. We watched as they brought out at least a dozen other orders. At 7:20, we checked again with the server, who said the order would be up soon. We called the restaurant as well, and they told us one pizza had been spoiled and was being re-prepared. A few minutes later, the server walked out with the pizzas, said "sorry it took so long," handed them to us, and walked -- almost ran -- back into the restaurant without another word. The pizzas had two things on top -- one cookie, which I guess was a concession, and the check, with one pizza scratched off... but the charge for the pizza was not taken off. The tip, however, was taken off. When we got home, we found one of the pizzas was burned (see photo). Thoughts: 1. Stuff happens; we understand. Fixing it means communicating when the problem happens and sincerely apologizing (with a meaningful concession) when you finally resolve the problem. 2. As a manager, own the apology. Don't leave the apology to your team and don't penalize your team for it. 3. Don't replace a screw-up with another screw-up. read more

My wife and I live probably five minutes from Capp's but had never tried it because Tre Forni in Durham was our Neapolitan pizza place and I was very happy with it. When Tre Forni shuttered in January we had to find a new Neapolitan pizza place to urge our cravings and Capp's definitely has done the job. We've been three times in the past 6-7 weeks and the appetizers and salads have been fresh and tasty and the pizzas have been excellent. We especially love the fried calamari and sport peppers (which are fried perfectly), the meatballs and the pizzas featuring any of their cured meats. I also went out on a limb and tried their vegetarian special pizza -- roasted cauliflower with provolone and cherry tomatoes -- and it was outstanding. I went to Capps in California and remember being pretty good. Here is a different story. Service: very nice staffs here. Helpful, personable and courteous. Price: Expensive for what it is. Taste: Pizza is very soggy. The dough is very thick for brick or wood fire. We ordered two pizzas I don't know which. But we just ate a little and left. Not coming back.
