Wow, I'm a huge fan of Capp's Pizzeria even though I live maybe 40 minutes away? As a pizza lover, I certainly appreciate their Neapolitan-style pies along with all their home-made pastas. I've tried out their margherita, Bee Bomb (soppressata, hot honey) along with their weekend special, clam pie! It is REALLY hard to find clam pies this far south so I consider it to be a special treat. And while I'm usually really full and over-order at Capp's, even their desserts are great and home-made. I did a multi-layer honey cake which was complex and divine. Service has always been solid here and prices very reasonable for what you get. I scratch my head on a lot of the negative reviews here because they are way off the mark. It's rare when you get such a great little Italian restaurant in the Triangle making everything in-house and at decent prices. It's a hidden gem in my opinion and worth even the drive from Raleigh.

The place was busy and had Italian music playing in the background. It has tables and booths to the side with the main counter at front and you can smell the food as soon as you walk in. It immediately makes you hungry. We were seated at a booth and offered their free focaccia style bread with an olive oil accompaniment, which was delish. The bread was hot and crunchy, but not too much where you could still dip it in the olive oil. We then ordered a personal cheese pizza, the lasagna and the chicken parmigiana (which I didn't photograph). Everything was delicious! Our waitress was very friendly and funny. I would def recommend coming here and checking it out.

The interior, however, is very casual and family friendly. I ordered a pasta dish consisting of cheese tortellini, pink vodka sauce, shrimp, and spinach. The tortellini was cooked to perfection, the cheese filling and the texture all together was very pleasing. The sauce was delicious and featured roasted cherry tomatoes, which were very flavorful. The spinach was also cooked perfectly, and complimented the vodka sauce very well. The shrimp, however, was very bland; it, strangely, was very crunchy. When eating, it almost had the taste and texture of a baby carrot. The focaccia served complimentary to the meal was delicious! It was light and fluffy. The oil and crushed sun-dried tomato served with the focaccia, though, was also very bland. This could possibly be the quality of the tomato, it may not have even been sun dried tomatoes in the oil, I did not think to ask. The food came out in a timely fashion and piping hot! The server was very kind and personable. One thing I'd like to note is that on the menu, sauce options included an 'Alfredo' sauce and a 'butter and cheese' sauce. Traditional 'Alfredo' sauce is butter and cheese, no other ingredients; so, this was a bit misleading and odd. Overall, I would recommend Magone and will be returning!

The person I was with ordered the same, with vodka, and she felt the caffeine. My dining partner and I began with the Wood Grilled Pear salad (small) and it was very tasty. I would order again. Meanwhile, bread was delivered to the table. The bread had no taste and was disappointing. Our entrees were lasagna and lemon linguine (with scallops & shrimp). Both were tasty. The star of the meal was the double chocolate geleto!! It was absolutely delicious and one order was enough for 2. It was served with a lemon biscotti that was the best biscotti I've ever tasted. The ambiance was not my favorite, however just personal preference. There are a few small parking lots nearby that are metered. There is 1 handicap parking space beside the restaurant (also metered). The vibes are intimate and cozy, and I'm so glad I made a reservation because even on a Tuesday night, the whole place was full, and people kept coming throughout the evening. We started with the focaccia bread, and wow, it was pillowy and melt in your mouth good. The butter that accompanies it was a warm hug that brought the whole thing together. Otherwise, we ordered a few other dishes. The waitress was really kind and helped us ensure that everything we got was vegetarian. We ordered the linguini vegetarian, rigatoni, and the gnocchi. The restaurant sits on Franklin Street, right in the heart of Chapel Hill near UNC. It's a lively, walkable area filled with shops and restaurants. Parking can be a little tricky--we circled a few blocks before finding a gravel lot nearby (free after 6 p.m. and all day Sunday). Inside, the place had an old-school, authentic feel. The staff spoke Italian, which added to the vibe, and the red curved booths reminded me of classic pizza joints from my childhood. The menu is posted on the wall behind the counter, and you order before sitting down. We also noticed their most recent health score was a 99, which was reassuring. My wife ordered the chef's salad, and I went with the meat stromboli. Her salad was fresh, colorful, and much better than the iceberg lettuce you often get. She enjoyed it so much that she finished before my stromboli was ready. When mine came out, it was served on a pizza pan with a side of sauce--it looked and tasted great. It was also clear they do a strong takeout business, with lots of people picking up orders and the phone constantly ringing. Overall, the food was solid, the atmosphere memorable, and it felt like a local institution that's earned its recognition. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Chapel Hill.
