First time checking out this place and you totally cant miss it. They have a big chicken in the front. First thing i noticed when you get in was packed. Seat yourself, and hope someone gets up. The place is pretty small and super poppin on saturday morning. Checked out the food choices and they are known for A LOT of things. They have their famous biscuit and gravy (recommend getting the loaded). They have their famous HUGE cinnamon roll. They also have their own signature ice cream. Sat down, ordered, and BAM not even kidding food comes out. We waited maybe 5 minutes and our meals were out! The biscuit was amazing and the spring onions and bacon bits on top (loaded option) was a great add on. The bacon was crispy and they seem to have their own sausage links. Something about this place made me feel great and this is definitely my go to breakfast place now. Small complaint about where i was sitting was the fact there were flies flying around all over. was a bit annoying but all the great food and quick service wasnt going to ruin my experience. Did i mention the cinnamon roll was HUGE? no joke its as big as the place and man is it good. Warm gooey and great evened out sweetness to bite ratio. What happens when your flight is delayed by 3+ hours and you don't want to go home?! You feed your cravings and treat yourself to breakfast! Capri is a ways from the Boise Airport but worth the time if you're in the mood for a greasy, old-fashioned diner meal. This is the original location. You can't miss the building. On top of the sign sits a big old rooster overlooking the cityscape. A large poster on the awning reads "Famous Biscuits and Gravy," so naturally that's what I ordered the moment I sat at the bar. And yes, you gotta get it Loaded (fresh baked buttermilk biscuits, country sausage gravy, topped with crispy bacon, fresh cut green onions and cheddar cheese, $8.95/half order). The food came out super quick - not that B&G ever takes long. The smell of bacon and hot gravy had my mouth watering the second it was placed in front of me. There was so much gravy. Personally, I think B&G should be more G&B. There was a generous amount of chopped bacon, which made up for the insane lack of sausage in the gravy. I wish there was a little more cheese, with how much was on my plate I wouldn't have noticed if it was there or not. The green onions were a delicious addition, albeit a bit strong, so be prepared and okay for onion breath the rest of the day. Generous portion sizes, too. I ended eating half my plate and taking the rest to my husband at home. The service was excellent. When I eat outside alone I like to keep to myself by reading articles on my phone and the waitstaff understood. Since I was sitting at the bar they were right there, but never once bothered me. I automatically put it in the trash and I was so sick to my stomach. I called the restaurant and they put me on hold when I asked to speak to a manager and they hung up on me. This used to be my favorite greasy spoon diner. I have really fond memories of going there in years past. Not only is the food terrible, the environment is even worse. Every time I've ever gone to Capri on a weekend there is always a line of people to get a table. I thought it was strange that there wasn't one today. Now I get it. Every table is available to sit at without abiding by Ada County Covid mandates. None of the staff wear masks, also per Ada County mandate. We overheard the staff make racist comments along with other insane flat earth conspiracy theories. I wish we would have let as soon as we realized that no one was wearing a mask. This place is absolutely awesome. Old school charm and high quality classics. My husbands favorite meal is breakfast so we are are tough critics.... the diner atmosphere transports you back to much desired simpler times... the staff is friendly AND efficient (I appreciate both)... the coffee is straightforward and does the job (ie: it is not French press for the mass exodus Californians)... and the food is executed perfectly by seasoned cooks... it's obvious those guys have their menu down and have probably been working there for years. Hash browns, eggs and toast - a diner classic - is 100% on point.... biscuits and sausage gravy were good, but not as perfected as they do down south. Comfort food nonetheless. As for COVID protocol, this is more of a locals place so... if you're high risk - order takeout or visit at a slower time of day. I'm a devout mask wearer (not in the high risk category) but I knew what I was getting into... the place wasn't packed when we went so I felt fine... and frankly it was nice to feel like we're getting back to normal. My husband and I are new to the area and saw Capri's on Yelp and decided to try them out and boy am i glad we did! We have been there twice now this week and have decided it's our new favorite spot! The servers were friendly and the food was great! The 1st visit I had a hamburger and fries and the hubs got an omelet and Cowboy potatoes. We never heard of them before and boy were we missing OUT! Soooooo GOOD! I highly recommend trying them. The second time I got the biscuits and gravy and the hubs got the same as last time (which should tell you how good them Cowboy taters are!). All things considered, I enjoyed the food at Capri as well as the customer service. I stayed at the adjacent Budget motel that for two nights while on business in Boise (that's another story) and tried Capri for breakfast during BSU's graduation weekend this year. This location is quite festive in the morning, given its proximity to the motel and other businesses on Fairview Avenue. Starting with the food, I would rate it 8/10. It was pretty good (slightly greasy), yet palatable. I was so hungry that I really didn't want to waste time eating fast food anywhere on Fairview Ave, so I chose the meat lover's omelette along with a side of hashbrowns and a cup of coffee. I think that I paid a total of $11 before the tip. Very filling, which served its purpose in not keeping me hungry for several hours. The seating is not bad at all. There is a bar area (where I sat at), as well as side tables on the far left of the dinner wall as well as within the front and toward the right of the venue. The bar area had some very "interesting" conversation from travelers and locals alike, which actually lightened up the mood. The servers were attentive and very sweet, and made sensible recommendations on the food items listed within the menu. I am serious, we were sitting within 10 minutes. Drinks order and received in less than 5 minutes. We ordered our food and even though the place was packed, we had our food in less than 10 minutes. Drinks were kept full and the check arrived as soon as we were finished. The table was cleaned and new customers had their drinks at our old table by the time I had checked out. Stopped in this place for breakfast on my way through Boise. Great local eatery for sure! Friendly staff, attentive and very reasonably priced. The menu seems very extensive. I had the regular country sausage gravy (they do have a loaded sausage gravy which comes with green onions, cheese, sausage) with scrambled eggs and two slices of bacon. After spending a couple of hours at the Boise Farmers Market, the hubs and I were hungry. He works near here, so I thought we should give it a try. It was about 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon & we both wanted breakfast. The outside of the restaurant is very old & dated. They share a parking lot with a crappy looking motel, but I wasn't going to judge them on outside appearances. After all, many dive looking restaurants have amazing food. We walked in and saw the sign that told us to seat ourselves at any clean table. The inside of the restaurant was also dated, but clean. They had about 12 booths as well as a counter where you could eat. Once seated we were promptly greeted by our server. She dropped off water & took our drink order. Once she returned with our drinks we placed our order: Chicken fried steak, eggs over easy, sourdough toast, hash browns, bacon, plus an additional side of bacon (hubby) French toast special, eggs scrambled, bacon (me) It only took about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. Everything looked great....with the exception of my scrambled eggs. The eggs had very obvious chunks of egg whites separate from the yellow yolk pieces. Clearly, the cook did not actually "scramble" the eggs. In order to incorporate the yolk & whites, you need to whisk the eggs vigorously. This was simply a cook that only did the bare minimum. After looking at other peoples pictures of the food I noticed that their eggs were the same way. The bacon was a bit rubbery. The chicken fried steak & gravy looked delicious! My husband really liked it. I also enjoyed my French toast, it was prepared perfectly! The hash browns were also on point! Our server was very friendly and accommodating. I really liked her. She was great! I would probably go there one more time to see if I just happened to come in on an off day. Our meal total was $35 after tip. I am a HUGE breakfast fanatic. It's, by far, the best meal of the day. That being said, I love breakfast joints. I have two favorite kinds: hipster-ish coffee shops that can serve up a good dish, and divy, hole in the wall joints. The latter being my #1, and how I would describe Capri. Until this morning, I had heard of Capri and I had seen Capri -- not knowing they were one in the same. This place rocks! It's a classic dive, outside in. Connected to a Budget Inn, it almost seems like an odd place for a restaurant. You're greeted by old school wood paneling and bright orange pleather booths. The waitresses were super friendly, called me sweety (my favorite) and knew most of the customers by name (not to mention, knew their orders). As a few of the regulars walked out, she shouted "See ya tomorrow!" When the regulars are daily regulars, you know it's good. I'm a sucker for restaurant hot cocoa. And no, I don't mean coffee shop hot chocolate made with steamed milk and imported chocolate -- I mean straight out of the machine with a pile of extra thick whipped cream. And Capri's? Oh boy, does it deliver! I judge breakfast joints based on three things: Biscuits and gravy, waffles, and chicken fried steak. This morning I opted for the biscuits and gravy and was not disappointed. The biscuits were soft, but also a little crispy (don't ask me how); the gravy thick and filling. The eggs were cooked to my liking and bacon was pretty good, too. They let me sit in a booth for over an hour, even after finishing my meal, without making me feel rushed (I came in before work, having extra time to read). Did I mention how CHEAP it is?? Maybe cheap isn't the right word, but a breakfast meal under $7 and hot cocoa under $2?? Sign me up! I got a cinnamon roll to-go because, well duh. I'll report back on that. We stayed with a local for our brief time in Boise and he recommended we all get breakfast at Capri. At first glance, it was a typical greasy spoon all-American diner. Upon further inspection... nothing changed. He had recommended me the eggs benedict which had a cheese sauce (I assume in lieu of Hollandaise) but man did that suck. The sauce, not the dish. The eggs were poached fine and the English muffins were inoffensive. The best part of the dish was the thick cut of ham steak that surrounded the benedict duo. I wish that the ham itself was ON the muffin as the traditional recipe calls for but perhaps it was better that they were spared from the awful intoxication of that cheese sauce. What was worse was when the cheese sauce coagulated with the runny egg yolk. Yuck. I tasted my friend's chicken fried steak which seemed like a better, albeit heavier, option. But it was under $9 for all of that, so at least I didn't feel ripped off. Plus the people there were super friendly and helpful. read more
