If you love breakfast (I do), this place scratches the itch every time. They nail the classics. Hash browns are on point. Wait staff is constantly moving and they would like you to know what you want. No attitude but they are fire. Biscuits and gravy with the additions is the way to go.

Awesome little local diner! Great breakfast and even better coffee. Always a pot of coffee on brew and mug stayed full entire time I was there. Biscuits and gravy are the bread and butter LOL! Also the only place in town with Ube pancakes

Filipino ube pancakes delicious!!! We enjoy coming here for breakfast whenever we're in town. They have the best customer service!

Great diner in Boise. Friendly staff and great portions. Enough to take home for a full meal the next day. The staff here is awesome! The cooks work hard, and the wait staff is super friendly. One of the best breakfast places in Boise.

    Rudy the Rooster
    Sergio A.

Talk about old school!!! Rudy the Rooster who is on top of the business sign came from another diner from the '60s that closed down. Rudy needed a new home and owner Nick West took him to the top of the sign 8 years ago. Rudy had been shot twice, so the entry and exit wounds had to be fixed. Welcome to Idaho. Inside the building, wait staff who are incredibly pleasant and efficient will take care of you. How many decades they have been there is a secret. The best damn people in the business. The banquettes are really tired. The seat cushions are lumpy and compressed - the seat backs rock when another patron sits behind you. More of the charm of Capri. If it keeps the tattooed, blue and pink hair, body pierced crowd out, then it appears to be working. This is a place that your parents took you to for biscuits & gravy. No kale or sprouts in this building. Speaking of which, check out the photos of the food in the review. Plenty of free parking as it is connected to a motel. This is a huge advantage in a downtown Boise which does not give a damn about cars and parking woes as they tear down more & more buildings and parking lots to create the next generation of tenement (ghetto) apartments. What are the criteria for a great old school coffee shop? Great skilled table service, fast kitchen and plenty of tasty food. The ambiance scores and the cutesy scores that Gen X, Y, Z and Millennials always whine about are not needed here. We had the open-faced beef sandwich covered with mashed potatoes and brown gravy along with a Rueben rye sandwich and a Bloody Mary. Where else can you get this combination of rib-sticking food? There was a side green salad involved as a nod to healthy living. Would we go back? Hell yes. If you are offended that this restaurant does not have a Drag Queen Brunch or that the menu does not have fava beans with goat cheese or rainbow pasta salad with tahini-sesame dressing, then you need to get to another part of Boise or even Portland to eat.

i absolutely love this place the food is amazing and the service is great too super nice portions of food and the food tastes awesome my favorite is the corn beef hash and cowboy potatoes i just get a side of each and that's enough food super big cinnamon rolls this place is awesome 100/10 every time we come here!!! never super noisy either even when it's busy so that's a huge plus! they treat everyone with kindness no matter what you're wearing!

Tried eating there last week and got food poisoning. This is how they handle there food. No wonder I got sick

Ate there last week. Got food poisoning. The next day I walked to the store and seen theOwner delivering food to there back door and leaving it no wonder I got sick

    One Biscuit special

Checked out the Capri today for brunch. Man, was this place crazy busy! Walking into this joint was like walking back in time. Everything was old school. From the decor to seating, everything was vintage. It's a smaller venue so when it's packed like it was today, you're waiting for a bit! We ended up sitting at counter and it was pretty chill. There were a lot of bussers there that helped with drinks and set up. They got us our drinks quickly. They were all nice and helpful. Our server did take a minute to get to us. It was pure chaos there with a full house of guests. It was all good though, we were there to enjoy the moment. Today we ordered the one biscuit special, the bandit breakfast sandwich and a side of cowboy potatoes. The biscuit was hearty and fluffy. It was very soft and fresh. The gravy that covered the biscuit was savory and full of sausage bits. It is very dense so I only was able to finish half of my biscuit. The bacon was a little floppy but still yummy. The cowboy potatoes were good. It's pan fried mashed potatoes with all sorts of goodness on the inside. The bandit breakfast sandwich was toasty and loaded with cheese and sausage. Toasted sourdough, melted cheese and the gooey egg in addition to the sausage made such a good breakfast sammy. If you're looking for a good food and you're not too worried about the esthetics of the restaurant, Capri is the joint to hit up!

    Love the avocado included

My spouse has been here many times and she finally enticed me to join her. The large variety of choices on the menu make it hard to decide what to order, so I started with something a bit traditional (and my spouse joined me in the same order so we could discuss it). Very good brunch and made it clear that my normally exotic tastes would make me move to the different areas of the menu next time. Service was friendly, and it is obvious a go-to spot for many.

Capri special I'd order it again

I arrived first. There was a server behind the counter not really acknowledging me. There were also a couple other servers hanging out by the breakfast bar that were in their own little world. So, I just stood there for a while. Finally someone who was actually serving a table who wad walking by greeted me and got my sat. I got some coffee started while I was waiting for my friend. I told me server about my new kidney and that I couldn't use the creamers on the table that had been handled by previous guests. She was kind and got me a new bowl of creamers. I kicked it, enjoyed my hot coffee and waited till my friend showed up. After my friend finally showed up, we breezed over the menu and decided on some grub. I did have a meal a little before our lunch date so I got something off the smaller menu. I decided on the hamburger patty with onions and 1egg meal. I thought it was going to be the perfect amount. Everything came out quickly. I did ask for a side of brown gravy for my hamburger patty, it was looking kinda dry. The side of fruit I got looked fresh and my egg was cooked perfectly. My patty was smaller, it would be comparable to a patty you would use as a slider. The gravy and onions did add nice flavor to it. Unfortunately the gravy was sitting for a while in the back cause it was lumpy and cooler. The egg was fresh and the fruit as good. My coffee was always topped off by our server which I really appreciated. My friend and I didn't realize what time they closed. We just thought that we came at an odd hour so no one was eating and it was slow. We hung out for a while and chatted. Finally another server told us that she was going to go paint the bathroom and she would be in there if we needed anything. Finding that to be such an odd comment, I googled to see what time they closed. It was 2:15 and they closed at 2. I thought a simple "is there anything else we can get you cause we are closed" would have been sufficient instead of beating around the bush. I served for over 30 years and have never told my guests I would be in the bathroom if they needed me. It was an interesting meal here. The venue was fun with the lights and vintage decor. The food was decent. Our server did a great job but service outside of her was non existent or questionable. I have my favorite breakfast joints and I wish I could have added this place to it on this end of town. I love supporting local but it's hard to support this joint when the service and food was just 50/50.

I have been to quite a few joints downtown already. I wasn't dressed the best so heading to Bacon or Tupelo Honey for breakfast would have been a little embarrassing. And I didn't want to deal with parking so after doing a little research, Elmer's was my spot to grab some food. Driving up to the restaurant, there were quite a few cars in the parking lot. What have I been missing out on? This place was poppin! I know Elmer's has been around for a hot minute and as long as I have lived here, I have never been. Seeing that the parking lot was pretty full, I took it as a good sign about my choice of coming here. I was sat at a small table by the fireplace. It's a pretty cozy venue. Bright from all the windows. The fireplace was going so it was nice and toasty. It was a very chill setting. Mariah got some coffee started for me while I was breezing over the menu. They have a little of everything for breakfast and some lunch options. I ordered the Hungry Rancher for breakfast. I should have known that my eyes were bigger than my stomach cause it was a lot of food! You get 3 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 slices of ham, 2 sausage links, hashbrowns and fruit. I also got a side of country gravy and pancake syrup. Gotta have pancake syrup for the sausage links! My eggs were fried hard and were perfect. The sausage links had a nice browning on them which I love. It was paired nicely with the pancake syrup. I ate a couple bites of my hashbrowns with the gravy. The top of the hashbrowns were crispy and golden but the middle part of the hashbrowns were still undercooked. You get a great portion of the hashbrowns which is fantastic but when it's that thick of a portion, the middle of it ends up not cooking all the way through. I ended up taking my ham and bacon home with me. I didn't have enough room to finish my huge plate! The one thing I noticed about this joint were all the older folks here. It was nice seeing them out, socializing, playing card games after their meal and enjoying life. This must be the go to spot for senior citizens. I did feel out of place amongst these fabulous folks but honestly it was fun. They are so chill. No drama. No loud conversations. Everyone was just having a relaxing and fun time. I can hang with these folks any day! It was a fun experience today at Elmer's. The food was hefty and good. The crowd is chill and fun to be around. The venue is comfortable and relaxing. I'm happy I got to grab a meal here in between my appointments. I got to enjoy my meal and wasn't rushed. Mariah did a great job taking care of me. I don't know when I'll be in the area again but I'll be hitting up Elmer's if I am, especially for breakfast.

Finger Steak Basket (3/5): A very generous portion that comes packed with battered, deep-fried strips of steak, tater tots (gems), and a slice of garlic bread. The finger steaks are served with a traditional cocktail sauce, which is an interesting pairing for beef that didn't quite hit the mark for me personally. They tasted much better when dipped in fry sauce instead, which also pairs perfectly with the crispy gems. The garlic bread is a nice addition to round out the basket, though it lacks a strong buttery or garlicky flavor profile. The Idaho Ice Cream Potato (5/5): An incredibly creative dessert that's worth the $7 price tag for the fun novelty alone. It looks exactly like a real baked potato, but is actually a generous portion of vanilla ice cream coated in cocoa powder, and topped with chocolate syrup, peanuts, and crushed Oreo cookies, though you can ask to omit any toppings you don't want. Logistics Tip: The restaurant is highly flexible, offering two drive-through lanes for quick to-go orders alongside plenty of traditional parking spots if you want to dine on-site at their outdoor seating. The scone was cooked perfectly but whatever honey butter they are using was waxy and not much flavor. My wife also said her omelette just didn't taste right. We take both very seriously, so Goldy's was high on our list during our trip to Boise--and it did not disappoint. We ended up sitting upstairs, which turned out to be a great choice. It gave us a fun view of the dining room below and, more importantly, let us see all the amazing-looking plates coming out of the kitchen. If you're anything like me, half the fun of breakfast is seeing what everyone else ordered. The standout for both of us was easily the Goldy's Special Potatoes. The red potatoes are tossed with the restaurant's house seasoning blend, and whatever is in that seasoning mix works. They were flavorful, crispy, and completely addictive. We both cleaned our plates. I ordered the two-egg breakfast with scrambled eggs and cheese, along with one of their specialty sausages. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the biscuit was excellent. Since I was in Idaho, I also wanted to try something made with marionberries because they're so well known in the Pacific Northwest. I ordered the marionberry jam, and while I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, both my husband and I really enjoyed it. My husband went with an omelet and turkey apple sausage and was equally happy with his choice. The coffee was probably the only thing that didn't stand out to me. I drink my coffee black, and this was more of a classic diner-style cup of coffee--perfectly fine, but not the star of the meal for sure. Overall, Goldy's is exactly the kind of breakfast spot we love finding when we travel: great food, generous portions, and a place that feels like a local favorite for a reason.
