Worst breakfast ever. My receipt said the server was Cindy. Took forever for her to check on us. And when we finally got out food it wasn't warm at all. It was literally room temp, honestly felt less than that. But the busser was fast and quick to get us our drinks. At least one of them knows how to do their job correctly. My family and I just moved to Boise and brought with us with a genuine affection for local diners that could care less about restaurant trends. And this place fits that billing precisely. Its not the best food in town...it's not the "campy-ist diner" environment...and its only open until 3PM. But for crying out loud they have a rotating rooster on the roof, the food is priced right, and they have a maple-bacon cinnamon roll that I've failed to partially finish on two different occasions (I finished it both times and felt awful about myself...both times!). The Capri is a staple of good old fashioned breakfast style food with an extensive menu and a ton of excitement watching the Budget Motel happenings in the shared parking lot. We got to see a CL transaction as well as a TON of traffic in and out. If BPD doesn't care, neither do I! Kinda like watching COPS without anyone going to jail! So fun! Our server Yana was very efficient. Not welcoming or bubbly or sweet but highly effective. We didn't wait long or want for anything including coffee refills during our stay. We went in with two of our friends and I ordered the corned beef and hash which is a NO GO. Do not order this. It's basically canned SPAM like corned beef (imagine fresh corned beef you take and run through a blender with some gelatin and salt). It was literally disgusting and I lamented over my order the entire stay because everyone else's looked and tasted fantastic. Evidently, the Cowboy potatoes are the way to go at Capri. They are PHENOMENAL. Essentially like mashed potatoes pan fried with onion, bacon, cream and whatever other love they throw in there. Don't be like me, order the Cowboy potatoes. My wife had the Capri Special which was slathered in a house made cheese sauce that looks like hollandaise but is far better. So rich and gooey like the best hangover cure in the planet. Our friends ordered the French Toast with eggs and it was perfectly cooked using heavy egg and Texas style toast. It was served with butter and a little powdered sugar which not only tasted great but really made the plate look nice. Atmosphere: 8/10 Lots of entertainment in the parking lot. I've always wondered why the owner doesn't just buy the Motel and make it into something like the Modern and just couple it with the Capri and CRUSH IT. Cleanliness: 7/10 Food: 5/10 That corned beef is horrid and isn't good enough to be featured in this restaurant. It detracts from someone's experience when they could be enjoying something better instead of wishing they'd ordered something else. this amazing little hideout is the best place to get some awesome hang over food. It might be small but it makes up for size in attitude and great food. It is nestled into the parking lot of the Budget Inn in downtown Boise and while I don't recommend the hotel I do recommend a short stay at the Capri. the one down side is the hours. I am not a morning person and the Capri is only open until 3:00 pm most days. the only good things about it's location is plenty of parking and you can borrow the hotels WiFi from time to time. read more

Went for the "World Famous Sausage Gravy". I am a diner fan and lived in the South so I've had my share of sausage gravy and biscuits. The biscuits and gravy base had potential- but what a disappointment! Not a single sausage crumble in the entire dish. No kidding- not a speck Most disappointing was basic restaurant sanitation by the staff. Filled glasses delivered stacked on top of each other so the bottom of one was sitting in the beverage of the bottom glass. This looks like your standard breakfast diner. It looks like a place you'd get decent pancakes and eggs, maybe some biscuits and gravy. However, the giant chicken on the roof hails the dawn of a better morning feast. It's all the fare you'd expect from a Cracker Barrel, IHOP or Denny's, but done to absolute perfection, cooked with generations of love. This feels like the food that fed miners and prospectors ready to haul ore all the live-long day. I like that even the owners' kids are waiting the tables, I like that they put their own spin on classic diner staples without getting too showy and instagrammy about it, I like the big orange leather seatbacks and the bar to get to know the staff better while you chow down. From the sawmill gravy to the biscuit to the hash browns and eggs, nothing came out with any flaws, and all of it tastes like someone's grandma or great grandma's recipes preserved for posterity and prepared with respect for the original. Don't skip this place. They deliver much more than the unassuming facade would you lead you to assume, and they do it for a great price. read more

Breakfast with our crew and we were nervous about finding a place with the space to feed all 8 of us. This one was perfect. They even pulled up 2 chairs at their biggest booth. Then... Bloody Mary for breakfast, yes please! The cowboy potatoes were stick to your ribs. Looked small but ended up being more than enough. Pancakes are huge, PSA haha! And the breakfast sandwiches were heavenly. Last to note, the cinnamon roll was giant and the cream cheese icing was perfection. This is a must! Update: the owner Nick pretending to be a customer has left a threatening comment on my post like many other posters below have mentioned, he apparently doesn't know you can see who owns each business at IDSOS. Im going to approve it so he can dig his own hole. I have eaten here for years and years, the reason why was it was a great value, the food has never been that great to be honest but it's cheap and it goes in my stomach. Today I go in there to get food and notice they jacked their prices up at least $2 bucks a plate. The chicken fried steak I always got was $11, this is a deep fried from freezer chicken fried steak, a small one at that $11 really, Black Bear Diner has one for $11 but it's got Capri's beat by about 4 ounces? I'm a fair man I can understand a slight raise but someone didn't think this out, you are going to bleed out business, it's sad I'm sure the owner is kind of stuck as food prices keep climbing but that is business I guess. As well I understand they are trying to stay with the prices of other restaurants, but other restaurants are not connected to an old beat up hotel known for drug busts and Swat team visits. I went to the Capri today because I have been told for years that it is great breakfast place. It is located next to a motel on Fairview that is probably not the best place in town to stay in unless you are on are a really strict budget hence the name the budget inn. I sat at the bar stools as instructed by the sign since I was by myself. I was going to order the French toast, eggs and bacon but at the last minute the chicken fried steak started calling my name. Unfortunately a choice I would regret. The Service was good but my Food sat waiting for about 5 mins. Before the waitress brought it to me. But the cook noticed that I saw this and was kind enough to put more gravy on the chicken to warm it up. The Egg and hashbrown were perfect! But the chicken fried steak did not taste good due to the breading on it and it had too much gravy. I wish I could explain why but all I can say is it was over breaded. The meat tasted fine though and I did scrap off the breading as much as I could. I was asked like 5 times if I wanted a coffee refill which was excellent because I would rather that than not being asked at all. I Would try out again but next time for a cinnamon roll or the French toast which looked really good. The lunch options also looked amazing. The onion rings are HUGE AND Thick and looked delicious!! Let me make this abundantly clear... While there might be several reasons to eat here, in my book, there is only ONE reason... and that is The Cowboy Potatoes. It is a $3 upcharge, but it doesn't matter. Do it. Splurge. Uncharged. Pay whatever amount of money it takes to eat these potatoes instead of whatever potatoes you were thinking about ordering. *Word to the wise* I would avoid the hash browns. It's possible that it was just an off day, but they tasted like straight oil, and we weren't able to finish them. The Cowboy Potatoes on the other hand...ER...MAH...GERD.....Those things are like spackle from heaven. They will literally fill every little crack in your soul. My only regret is that I had to share them with Blue. When I return, and I will return, I will ask for nothing but a giant plate of this and only this. I'd never been to Capri for breakfast before. I found myself headed for work earlier than usual this morning and decided to stop in. I'm glad I did! I owe big apologies to friends who have been telling me for years how good breakfast is at Capri. Yes, the building is not new, it looks like a dive- but in my experience some of the greatest local eats are found ins these 'greasy spoons'. I walked in and took a seat at the counter (as a sign asks 'singles' to sit there). I took a glance at the white board to see the specials, and the server poured me coffee (after asking if I wanted it of course) handed me a menu, and brought water. The breakfast menu is extensive, just about anything you want in the 'stick to your ribs' department. Although I cringed a bit at the header 'dieters corner' I could see that they offered also options for those seeking lighter fare. Now, I'm not a fan of the whole 'pumpkin everything' craze that strikes in the fall. It's about as repellant to me as the whole 'peppermint/eggnog everything' craze that follows, but something told me I needed to try the pumpkin hotcakes. I ordered the 'hotcake special'. Two hotcakes (duh), two eggs and two strips of bacon. The server (darn I wish I'd gotten her name, she was great!) aid she wasn't sure the cook had mixed up the pumpkin hotcakes(I asked if I could get them in place of regular hotcakes) yet, and I told her no worries if not. However when she asked (since I could see and hear things at the pass thru). The cook (who I later found out was the owner) was happy to get them going for me. As I waited I enjoyed my coffee (Farmer Bros.), dinked with my phone and soaked in the friendly atmosphere. Regulars were coming in, being greeted and chatting about this and that. It was a comfortable welcoming feeling that even I, in my business casual attire with my employee ID on a lanyard around my neck, felt a part of. Capri is known for it's portions and boy howdy it's true. My plate arrived with two salad plate sized, thick, steaming pumpkin hotcakes, two eggs (over easy) cooked to perfection and two thick, large, crispy enough (but not too much) strips of bacon. The server put the whipped cream (which I didn't know came with) for the hotcakes in a separate cup so my eggs would not melt it. I'm a 'knife and forker' when it comes to hotcakes and eggs, so put my eggs between my pancakes, distributed the butter, spread the whipped cream on top and cut it all up together. I stared with NO syrup to get a cleaner tasted of the hotcakes, and for my first bite chose a morsel that was not totally inundated with egg yoke. Folks, these are no 'pumpkin flavored' hotcakes, this is pumpkin mixed into the batter, not too sweet and not with an overdose of 'pumpkin pies seasoning' mixed in. The pumpkin is not over powering. The hotcakes are not heavy, but neither are they too light. Having satisfied my desire to experience the full pumpkin flavor, I dove in. I probably should have stopped eating when I was about 2/3 done, but I simply could not bear to leave any behind. The server, not overloaded with patrons at the time, was doing the day to day things that keep a place like Capri running smooth, filling condiment containers, updating the white boards and such. We chatted a bit as I enjoyed one last cup of coffee. That's when I learned that the 'chef' was the owner, and that he has a history of doing what folks want to make sure their experience at Capri is a good one. I paid less than $10 for my meal. I left satisfied in more ways than one, and I'll be back to Capri to try other menu selections. In recap, don't let the 'dingy' appearance or the location sway you. Come hungry and in a mind set to enjoy a full local experience. You'll leave happy- so long as you aren't of a mind to expect any hipster/yuppified flim-flammery. Let me begin with saying that this place is a dive. It is something that I would expect to find just off of the Vegas strip. The waitresses are old school, there is wood paneling and horrific looking mirrors. There is a stained smell of smoke that you can tell this place was totally the same but barlike and dingy before the smoking ban went into effect. That being said, for what it is... it's freaking awesome. I love places like this, so in my book all of the above are not problems. You're coming here for quick food that you lick off of a greasy spoon. Perfect ambiance for hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy (which weren't the best I ever had, but nonetheless were pretty tasty). The staff seems like they have been there for years and are friendly, chatty, but not over the top. Breakfast is good, lunch is too. I'm a big girl and they have nothing but booths. This isn't a good thing when the booths are small but for most people I guess that wouldn't be a problem. At least it isn't the kind of place where anyone is going to stare! Something about the location (in the parking lot of a seedy motel) adds to the allure, adventure, and sense of risk associated with eating at this greasy spoon. They have the old-fashioned counter, the vinyl-covered booths, and even some of the waitresses seem like they are original to this place. And Holy Cow-boy potatoes! The spuds are to die for. Put bacon and cheese in my taters and I will come back every time. Plate full of comfort right in front of me. Large portions and probably the friendliest service in the valley. I love this place. The breakfast menu is your typical Americana but you will not leave hungry or disappointed. I come here for two things. One of them is the super nice staff who usually put a smile on anyone's face. The second reason is what makes this one of my favorites. Go on a saturday or sunday morning. The crowds are beyond interesting. It's a nice blend of older country folks, truck drivers and people who are so hung over you swear you can see their head trembling. I have driven by this place many times and have seen it full almost every time. So I decided to go for breakfast with some friends last week and now I know why. The food and coffee where good, the service was great, and inside it was very clean and tidy. Along with all of that, the cost for three breakfasts was about $20.00! My wife and I love the Capri. If you don't know it's there, it is easy to just drive right past it and the motel it is attached to. And there can be a line to get in, so I am not too anxious to encourage others to visit. But the chicken fried steak breakfast is awesome and huge omelets loaded with fillings keep bringing me back. Not to mention yummy pancakes, biscuits/gravy and huge cinnamon rolls. But even good food at a great price isn't enough if the service isn't good too. Capri is definitely a great restaurant. My wife and I ate there every morning for a week recently during a stay at a nearby hotel. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Our orders always arrived exactly as we requested without a long wait. Coffee and water was always promptly topped off. The food is delicious and the ambiance is very relaxing. We tried several of their breakfast dishes and they were all fantastic! The french toast special and egg combo breakfasts were especially delicious! I LOVE this place. One of those hole in the wall places that is a secret kept and one of Boises little gems! I came in on a Sunday? afternoon, in my sweats and ZERO, and I mean ZERO makeup. Yes! I went here today with a couple of coworkers and they agreed that if you're looking for a good cheap breakfast or burger this is a great spot. The philly steak sandwich wasn't so hot, but the super friendly staff more than made up for it. I counted six customers (and surely missed some) that the waitresses hailed by name as they came in. I used to go here weekly. I'm a breakfast fan. The prices were low and the Capri has always been popular. I think the low prices were my chief reason for eating here. A couple of weeks ago, I sat down and realized they had raised their prices by 2 bucks on just about everything. Coffee was 2.50! They could have raised prices 10-15%- but 25-30% makes the Capri somewhat non competitive. There are a lot of restaurants in town charging Capri's new prices so I've been shopping around a little. read more
