I'd like to give this another try, despite some missteps. * Arugula salad did not have the peppery bite I expect from arugula. * My chicken breast had a good size bone in it, so it wasn't boneless! * Chocolate cake was kind of grainy, wasn't dense like a flourless chocolate cake. But they don't advertise that. It just wasn't as good as I expected. * Acoustics are pretty bad. We could hear the next table very well. We could barely hear well enough to talk across the table. * Service was pretty good, but we are convinced our wine got swapped and we each got the other's wine. My wife and I were just walking around downtown and happened upon this place and decided to give it a try (a friend had told us about it). A pretty quiet place with a somewhat intimate setting even though the tables are close to each other. The wait staff are among the best I've experienced and the food is beyond incredible. This was our first, but not our last time visiting this beautifully designed restaurant. If you and some friends are just meeting for drinks or appetizers, try the upstairs bar area. They have a few tables for two as well as comfy sofas and chairs. Wonderful atmosphere and a pleasure to add it to our list of 'we'll be back!' places in our new hometown. read more

The broth....literally the broth for the mussels mariniere has a better flavor profile than half of the main dishes you might find in Wilmington. Their table wine, the house table wine, at $6.50, is smoothest house wine I have ever had, anywhere. Service at the bar upstairs is always on point and they have best charcuterie/ fromage plate(s) in town. Every dessert is great, especially the profiteroles. Every time I come back I am reminded that Caprice is one of the few restaurants in Wilmington that set the standard for all other restaurants downtown, every night. New to town. We were looking for some fine dining. We ordered the escargot and the pork cheeks to start. When both dishes arrived they were not hot. Escargot about cold. Sent back. Pork cheeks were not tender and sauce was mediocre and barely warm. Got the escargot back after what I assume was a microwave warm up. Not very French... Bartender was rude at first, not addressing us face to face and didn't explain the specials in the same detail as he did to the couple sitting next to us. Food tasted good just not hot or even warm. No apologies or corrections made except for the microwaved escargot. May try again? read more

Hole in the wall places are my favorite! This places catches your attention with its unique design. You can feel the good energy as soon as you walk in with its cool colors and almost cozy design. I love this place! I don't understand the poor reviews. I've been here several times - each meal better than the previous. The atmosphere's wonderful, service is exceptional. I'm happy just eating the bread! (as well as the mushroom crêpes - Every time!) My mouth waters just thinking about my next visit! This is a fabulous find. This was probably my first and last experience at this French Bistro. I am not sure what clientele they are going for but they pour you tab water out of plastic gallon containers right at your table. The soup I got was almost cold, the fish I ate made me vomit all night long when I got home. Another thing I noticed is that they served all the food extremely fast. Wow, was I shocked. Our server was fantastic, I think his name was Josh, and the food was amazing. Our table wasn't ready so they ushered us upstairs and made us very comfortable. Unfortunately, I am only 18 years so I cannot drink but I did end up asking for a drinks menu just to see what they had. All of the cocktails looked fantastic (thereby making me jealous of 21 year olds in my party who could enjoy the lovely creations). When our table was ready the server brought us downstairs, and gave us menus, (delicious) bread, and water glasses. I decided to get something French at the French restaurant and ended up getting Duck Confit. I had never had duck before, but I would easily order it again. Everything was fantastic. The little potatoes under the duck were amazing, the frisee salad that comes with the duck was by far the best salad I've had in a long time, and the duck itself was as moist as could be. I had some time to waste after supper so I got coffee and dessert. The coffee was actually the best I've had and was surprisingly cheap ($2.50 with free warm ups). Also, I split a crème brûlée with a friend. It was very good, but a bit more expensive at $9. In the beginning I wasn't too excited about going to the river front for food, but by the end of the night I knew that Caprice was the best choice for us. I spent around $30 for my meal but the portions were huge and the restaurant itself is very nice. Caprice is now going to be my new birthday/french craving/ date night spot because for the quality of the food and the service Caprice has the best "bang for your buck" in Wilmington. read more

The Deets: On a weekend stayover in Wilmington after having a great week in OIB, we wanted to try some place new on the riverfront for dinner. Looking around on the trusty Yelp app, we came across Caprice Bistro...always in the mood for a good French meal, we made reservations. The place itself is indeed bistro in atmosphere, I like the feel of it. We lucked out and got a small table right beside the front window on the main level. Looking at the menu, there's lots of good things to ponder here. We started out with the Paté Maison (homemade French country style paté served w/ cornichons). I like country paté the best and this one did not disappoint. For the main entree, I went with the Pork Normandie (pork tenderloin, roasted w/ onions, apple calvados cream sauce). The pork was a good choice, great flavor in both the meat and sauce that came together well. The only disappointment I guess I would have here is that some of my favorite French meals I would love to have tried here such as Beef Bourguignon or Coq Au Vin are only available as daily specials, and neither were on for that day's special. This is the cutest French bistro ever! We were greeted by a wonderful lady. We were seated in a cute area. They have really good drink choices. I had a wonderful martini. I wish I could remember the name. I had the trout for dinner and it was sooooo good. The risotto was cooked with this white sauce which complemented the trout. My boyfriend had the beef bourginion. Let's just start with WOW! EVERYTHING about this place on this night was simply wonderful. We started with calamari & escargot for the table(we were a party of 4) and with the delicious bread it was more than enough. Now the calamari was perfectly breaded and lightly fried and extremely tender perfect! The escargot was served the the most delicious roquefort cream sauce even my husband who SWORE he hated the "little suckers" ate his fill we had to take the bowl away joking they weren't just his lol. We also enjoyed amazing duck confit, steak frits, the pork and the chefs special waterzoo even after all of this we managed to scarf down profiteroles and lavender creme brulee! Ate here on Tuesday March 15th. Arrived at 5:30pm and ate upstairs in the bar/ lounge. It's very hip and casual upstairs. We were the only ones there until 6:30pm when people stared coming in for cocktails. I ordered the Potato-Crusted Grouper and it was fantastic. My mother ordered the Lamb and she loved it, too. Low lighting, candlelight, amazing food, great wait staff... Just what I was hoping to find and so much more for a special occasion date. Tables were a bit crowded for my liking so we were close enough to talk to other couples (but this did lead to conversation about desserts... Which by the way, are delicious!) Our waitress (Katie, I think?) was incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. The wine offering was extensive, so I opted for the "house red wine" just to not spend time making a decision.... Thank you Caprice. You are Amazing. We had a special event here for 12+ people and the food a service was terrific. I wanted everyone to enjoy our little gem here in downtown Wilmington, and they found it to be as delicious and charming as I do. Patricia and Thierry were so great to work with and made our special night a great memory. The Water Zooi was the favorite dish of our group as was the short rib special they had for us. Great place. Good portion plates with amazing food. Tuna cooked rare with rice and vegetables just changed my life. Local tomato salad is very good. They serve a huge list of wines but I went with the ginger beer. Wow, dangerously good. Wife chose the trout she gave two thumbs up. read more

The place was absolutely beautiful, the food was great, yet we encountered the owner at the doorstep. She denied our request to dine in because we weren't dressed "appropriately". We in the end got seated which was great, but the worst came next. The comments from the staff were so unbelievably rude. "At least they're bill is over $300" - "if they don't tip 20-60%" they can f*ck off". The owners didn't seem too happy to even have us sitting at their empty bar. Made us wonder if they wanted business or not. Do not recommend for anyone wanting to eat at a place with positive ambiance. Very disappointing. read more

The couple who runs it used to own Cafe Bruxelles in the West Village, and we loved that place. When I made the reservation the wife (who runs the front of the house) sheepishly admitted she was from Lille, which is not the prettiest city in France, but the cuisine has lots of overlap with Belgian food, and it showed on the menu. All this was great: * Braised pork cheek appetizer - a lot like carbonnade, with smoky bacon * Waterzooi - a Gent specialty, this was excellent * Moules Frites * Steak Frites Last but not least, they had Duvel *on draft*, ZOMG. I've been all over Belgium and I only ever remember seeing it in the bottle. Location was great, right off of the waterfront in the center of town. Service was attentive and pleasant. The upstairs was really cool and lounge-y, with sofas and stuff everywhere. The prices were reasonable for food of this quality, entrees around $18-21. read more

Great atmosphere...definitely a nicer place you bring the ole lady out to for a celebration of love. Awweeeeee. The Pork Cheeks appy was holy shit! So freakin meltaway in your mouth and robust flavors...very tender. The ole lady's aperol drink was very light and refreshing. The Duvel beer was a little sweet...Belgium beer has that certain flavor I just dont dig on...but the beer is pricey. The crepe might have been one of the best I ever had...the ole lady got the mushroom crepe and it was so fluffy and creamy...like how a crepe should be. I got the Steak Frites. The steak was cooked to perfection (although my friend's bistro steak was supposed to be well and she ended up getting it rarer than mine and I asked for med rare)...but anyways, the mushroom sauce on top just added another level of flavor. The fries were OK. Basic gastro-pub, think-style fries, but the sauce they come with was holy shit! Some sort of mayo-sour cream-garlic sauce...I would like it to be sold separately as a condiment. My buddy got the duck confit and he never had duck...I've had duck before and sometimes it won't deliver for me...but he said his wasn't gamey (nice) and was tender (nice) and that he actually liked it...so im assuming it was...nice. We capped off the night with the creme brulee...it was probably the best creme brulee I ever had too...I got the cream puffs which laid on top of a bed of fudge and ice cream...freakin awesome and the pastry was so light and fluffy. I also got the dessert wine to go with it...love me some dessert wine and it delivered just right with the gobs of chocolate. All in all, I'm coming back with wifey and we're puttin our best sunday threads on and gonna hang with the muckey mucks for a nice night out again. Mind those table manners here too, you're kinda lined up in a row with other tables dropping eaves quite easily. read more

We had dinner Friday evening at Caprice Bistro, it was a delightful experience. We had reservations for 7:30, were greeted at the door and brought to our table. The place was packed. Like many the Paris Bistro, Caprice makes good use of their seating area. We were greeted by our waitress, Gwendolyn who started us off with a nice Kir Royal. For an appetizer we had the country pate served with some crusty bread, gherkins and Dijon mustard. Authentic. Delicious. For dinner we had a special which was a flounder with sun dried tomatoes and their mixed seafood stew which had fish, mussels, shrimp and scallops in a savory broth. We finished with profiteroles stuffed with a delish vanilla ice cream and topped with a rich chocolate sauce with some coffee. Perfect dinner! Table wasn't ready when we got there so we went upstairs for a drink. Delish martinis. Table was quickly ready (great marketing plan, y'all) so we paid and took our drinks to the cute back corner booth. We ended up ordering all tapas. Yes, a dinner of appetizers. There were four of us and we shared everything. Escargot (2), humane faux gras (yup), tomato tart, pork checks, mussels, sausage, a salad, and bread. All shared. I didn't want to share my escargot, but we did sop up all the goodness left in the bowl. Everything was delish and the house wine was great. And if blood sausage is on the menu, get it too. Also, these guys have a super martini and wine list. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly--just adore them. I always dine in the upstairs martini lounge, surrounded by art and on comfy sofas. Their art changes, so how can you not support a restaurant that supports local artists?
