Great little French restaurant right off Market Street in downtown Wilmington. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. You have to have an appreciation for French cuisine to love all of the menu items though. I got the smoked seafood as an appetizer and could not eat all of it. Basically it is a mix of different smoked fish. Outside of the appetizer, I was very pleased with the rest of the meal. Recommend. read more

Perfectly situated between Raleigh and Myrtle Beach on the Wilmington Waterfront area, Caprice is a French themed bistro with a kick'n little sofa bar upstairs. On Sunday nights, they offer $5 appetizers and drink/wine specials to boot! Indulge if you think you can make the drive back to Raleighwood. The menu is varied and fantastic!!! I've been 4-5 times...everytime a delight and worth every dime...it's a young, hip crowd. They have alternating local art (which is surprisingly affordable and tasteful!) My husband and I loved Caprice Bistro on our recent trip out to NC. We went there on one of our last nights there with close friends and were sad we couldn't have every meal there. We were running 15 minutes late for our reservation but we called the restaurant to let them know and they were so nice to hold our table. I loved the ambiance of this place. It's perfect for a date night or just a nice dinner with family and friends. They have a full bar which is a must for me. We ordered an array of apps... the calamari (5 stars), pomme frites (french fries 5 stars), mussels (5 stars I had to fight my husband for them and he usually won't eat them), escargot (5 stars delicious beyond belief, by far the best I've ever had and I couldn't get enough of the sauce), smoked seafood platter (3.5 stars everything was good and tasty but I wouldn't order it again). I know we ordered a lot of apps for just 4 people but everything sounded so good! We had the chicken cordon bleu which was soooo good and the steak with blue cheese sauce, yumm! This is definetly a must go to spot in Wilmington and I can't wait to go back! FIVE +++ STARS!!! read more

We dined at Caprice Bistro to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Bottle of house red (very dry as French is), one appetizer and a main course each. The check was about $90 with tax. Not bad for a very special occasion, and our appetites were sated. The server was able to answer all our questions about the menu items, was friendly and very attentive but not at all obtrusive. Our meal was provided at a very civilized pace - we never felt rushed, again a classic French dining experience. My wife and I have both lived and worked in France, and we actually had to walk by the river after dinner to make sure we hadn't been magically transported to Provence. We began with the pork cheeks, a dish neither of us had ever tried. Wow that was good, and we used up our delicious crusty bread polishing the gravy off the bowl. . . then on to the mains. Seafood Waterzooi for my bride; a delicious cream sauce stew with scallops, mussels, shrimp, grouper and salmon. Bison short ribs for me, served with mashed potatoes an mixed veggies, and with an amazing reduction gravy. Everything was to die for, including our window seat upstairs in the intimate lounge/small dining area. A wonderful meal. An intimate evening. An appropriate use of our time and money, and a great value. This place simply blew our socks off! read more

Atmosphere was fantastic. Dinner was really good. We started out with their trio of appetizers. That night it was faux gras, salmon mousse and a selection of cheese. My husband ordered the steak, and I got the waterzooi (seafood in an herb cream sauce). His steak was so incredibly tender, that it feel like food porn talking about it. I've been dining here for more than 10 years and it pains me to say that I've never offered a review, so here goes. Let's just say that Wilmington is fortunate to have so many fine, locally owned restaurants and I have my usual circuit, but Caprice stands alone. I've never experienced an off night, unlike all of my other favorite restaurants. I've tried most everything on the menu but I always get the house made pate which is probably one of the most exquisite dishes I've ever tasted( I have dreams about it). I won't go into details because literally everything on the menu is delicious. The owners are there all the time with the husband running the kitchen and the wife running the front of the house. The service is always excellent and the ambiance is very good. Writing this review is giving me a craving for the pate, so I'm heading back right now!!!! read more

I've had steak all around Wilmington and nothing beats caprice bistros. Always the best tasting and looking food with great service. The amount of different dishes they have is just incredible. Duck and rabbit even the French delicacy snails which might not sound that great until you try them you'll love them. I've traveled a lot in my life and I can honestly say this has been the best place I've EVER had steak and rabbit, just perfectly cooked every time. Absolutely exquisite. One of the best dining experiences I've had at any restaurant anywhere period. The Mussels Mariniere were fantastic and a very generous portion for even the small order. The Duck Confit was to die for. If you enjoy duck or have always wanted to try it this is definitely a must order dish. Cooked to perfection. I also sampled the Filet Mignon and the Caroline Trout. Both were winners as well. Finished off the meal with banana crème brulee that was so decadent I would have been entirely content with one bite, but we obviously ate the whole thing. My husband and I moved here last September and were introduced to this true gem in downtown Wilmington. This bistro is not only a class act but the food rivals any five star restaurant we have been to in NY and Boston. We have made this our home and go to when family visits. The Con Rouge salad is spectacular and I had a ginger carrot soup the other night that was divine. The atmosphere is authentic and magical. Wonderful place. Went there for the first time for dinner and were truly impressed. The House Specialty (The Waterzooi) and the Duck Confit were fantastic. But besides the food, our server Katie was the best. I have to say she was the best, most attentive without being overbearing on the ball server we have had in a very long time. Great location on Market St close to the boardwalk and parking garage. We've been to Caprice for dinner before and loved the food so we went back this time for appetizers and drinks before a show at Thalian Hall. The atmosphere is very romantic and the service is top notch. We order the salmon rellettes, escargots and smoked seafood. My fav was the escargots. Great to share because it is so rich. They serve bread before the apps which is nice if you're drinking, which we were. I am in love with the cocktail called Manhattan to Paris. For desert we ordered the macaroons. I'm a sucker for macaroons and these did not disappoint. Two drinks, three apps and desert $65 with tip. Well worth the money. read more

Man oh man, that was good. That tomato tarte thingie was small, but god, it packed it in. I don't know that I would have wanted it larger, the goat cheese all melting in with those tomatoes, my mouth is still watering. Fine, the salad was not too special. But the mussels were incredible, the pomme frites a bit too salty for me, but that mushroom crepe- it was seriously so good and so crazy rich, I could only eat half. God, delicious and nutritious. Or not. but still, so good. Wine list was decent too, given the heat and meal, I went all sauvignon blanc. The boy went for beer. They had half-price bottles that night, but I can't do 80 plus degree weather and half a bottle of red wine. I just can't. I won't even apologize. read more

This place was amazing! We had the sausage special (rabbit) which was amazing. The service was friendly and knowledgable. For entrees I got the duck confit which was so tender it fell right off the bone! They have different flavors of mussels which I found also very appealing and tasty. Desert we had the cream puffs which was a perfect ending not heavy, very light and delicious. I highly recommend this place!!! The tables are close together but it was just fine. Such a pleasant surprise in downtown Wilmington. The owners are French, the atmosphere quaint and romantic. The food absolutely amazing! We started with large order of mussels, definitely didn't need large but we ate every bite! Fresh herbs, lemon, white white these were perfect. The tomato pie was light and flakey with savory goat cheese. The seafood waterzooi was unbelievable! Fresh shrimp, mussels, salmon, scallops and halibut with a delicious sauce is a must try! My husband and I came to Caprice Bistro on our first night of our honeymoon in Wilmington on August 20, 2017. We sat upstairs. The server was talking with the table behind us as we settled into our seats. The bartender kindly came and got our drink order started for us. When we still hadn't been welcomed by the server, the bartender brought us some bread. We caught bits and pieces of the server greeting the other tables and offering to tell them the specials. We were happy to wait patiently for our turn to get the warm welcome and the menu lowdown. When he finally came to our table, he made almost no eye contact with either of us and said "do you have questions?" We immediately got the vibe that this guy didn't think we were Caprice Bistro quality clientele. I don't know if it was that my husband is heavily tattooed or that I look like I might be a character from a Tim Burton film, but something about us seemed to put our server off. After we ordered and got our food, our server checked in with us a couple more times and we continued to get the feeling from him that we were outcasts of the restaurant. Our experience was very different from what we were seeing around us. We still left a 20% tip on the bill and the place still gets 3 stars for the following reasons: -The food was very good! I had the beef bourguignon and my husband had the roasted chicken dish. Both entrees were delightful and full of flavor. -My husband said that the wine that he ordered was very good as well. I apologize, I don't remember the name of it. I had a mock-tail and it was very refreshing. -The bartender was really helpful and welcoming. He made us feel like we belonged there just like everyone else. -The restaurant was romantic and comfortable. So there you have it. Disappointment with the service of one person but a thank you to the rest of the staff for making us feel welcome and providing some yummy food. read more

EAT UPSTAIRS...unless you enjoy eavesdropping on your neighbors and rubbing elbows with other equally compacted diners. The Sofa bar area (upstairs) is awesome and you get the amazing food and martinis in a much more comfortable environment. We have met some awesome people here and learned about fine dining and high quality drinks here. We have ate at restaurants in LA, San Diego and Portland, OR and always think, "It's good, but not Caprice." They sometimes have banana bread pudding, if your are very lucky. Their creme brule is a close second for best dessert on the menu. It's not cheap but getting food from an actual French chef shouldn't be. Have enjoyed every plate I've ordered from here; the only exception is the steak & pomme frittes, its not really unique from a steak you can get from anywhere else. read more

We came here on 9/6/2018 and were absolutely blown away. The food was beyond expectation and the atmosphere was extremely romantic. A month and half later and I'm still tasting the richness of the lamb shank. The food is phenomenal, exquisitely French and amazingly tasty. We arrived on time for our reservation and the table was not ready, despite the fact that there were empty tables in the restaurant on a Tuesday night. Spent money waiting at the bar to finally after 15 minutes have a confused maitre d' randomly looking for us. We sat for about 5 minutes when the waitress asked if we were ready to order. Hadn't even had time to look menu over. We ordered a bottle of wine, it was out of stock and they tried to up sell us to a $30 more expensive bottle. Asked waitress for specials as I heard her offer to another table, not us. She said flounder and rack of lamb with no description. Had to ask for more details. Ordered a cassoulet, and she said it was replaced by a special. Then cabs back and said they were sold out. We ordered cassoulet off if the regular menu, but weren't told it was substituted by a special that was no longer available. Switched to beef bourginon, which I could have cooked at home. Beef was dry and overcooked. Not really edible, nor restaurant quality. Total disappointment, from wait staff to food. Would not return. read more

I wanted to love this place as it had good reviews online and one of my friends said she's obsessed with it. From initially stepping inside the door things went south. We had a reservation for two for 7:30 (which could clearly be seen on my opentable app and confirmation text from the restaurant) but the hostess was insistent that our reservation was for 8:30 even though we could clearly show her the confirmation. She was also pretty unapologetic about it. It seemed pretty clear our table had just been given away even though we arrived 10 mins early for the reservation. We went and grabbed a drink and came back at 8:15 and they were able to seat us. From there our waiter was not talkative and was consistently rolling his eyes at the table beside us that was talking a little loud. The food was just ok too - nothing special at all. The cheese plate was pretty good - the chicken and lamb were ok. Additionally, at a nicer restaurant, i would expect something to be comped on the bill for the reservation mishap (or at least an apology from someone for the mixup?). We also heard them ask the table beside us to leave because they had another reservation coming after them at 9, which was pretty rude considering there were plenty of other tables available.
