Cup of Gumbo and Shrimp basket
    Mary J.

The food just isn't good anymore. I always order gumbo and the combo basket. The gumbo is overcooked, the shrimp was mushy (some still had the shell) there was hard pieces I'm thinking it was the okra and the taste was BLAND. This time I ordered the shrimp basket because I didn't want to try the fish again it taste artificial and the portions are now cut in half. The shrimp basket was good, fries were freshly fried.

First time here and to go for early dinner on a Sunday Pluses: 1) easy to find it's 290 and 34th st 2) ample parking plus outdoor seating available 3) fried shrimp was the best thing we had today! Batter is so crunchy and the size is large. 4) fried whole flounder was large and crunchy and nice texture 5) seafood gumbo was mild flavor not salty and a great amount of small shrimps definitely could taste the okra 6) broiled crab fingers good amount 7) good cole slaw 8) fried oysters were good Areas to improve: 1) fried calamari were small and bland 2) fries were soggy Overall, good first to go experience and we would come back for the fried shrimp! We spent $111 pre tip for two so on the pricey side today, but seafood always is!

I expected more from this place but everything I ordered was bland and under seasoned. Fried crab fingers don't taste like anything. The shrimp po'boy is as bland as you can get. The gumbo just tasted like spice and lacked depth and body that is found in gumbo that people take pride in cooking. It also had more green onion than anyone other component. The only good thing we had were the hush puppies. I left here feeling unsatisfied and heavy.

The receipt of what we ate

It was our first time dinning here, as a fir's timers we had our doubts but everything was so delicious and customer service was very professional. We did not know what to eat but greysy she was so helpful and gave us a good opinion of what we could eat. I would really recommend this restaurant, the ambient was so nice as well.

Rice tasted like day old captain bens. The shrimp were old as well. Under seasoned. My date had to add almost every condiment on the table to add flavor. Wait staff was very friendly though!

I ordered the three catfish fillet with three shrimp.

Captain Benny's has a special going for a whole catfish fish and three shrimps with fries and hush puppies. The fish had bones in it which came as a surprise. Not much seasoning but it was good. I need to eat like that so when my daughter has a kidney transplant in a few months, I will be used to the taste when I cook. :-() Overall, I'd give it nine stars because of the bones.

Captain Benny's is a casual restaurant. It's good for groups, couples, and families with kids. They have lots of free parking. This location had inside and outside seating. It's not a large space, but it's nice. Our waitress was very nice, patient, and knowledgeable about the menu. For the table we ordered the Jalapeño Boudin Balls. Even though it says jalapeño they weren't spicy. They only had a little kick. For my meal, I got the Captain's Platter. It came with stuffed crab, fried shrimp, catfish, scallops, served with coleslaw, hush puppies, garlic toast, and French fries. It was pretty good. It didn't have any special flavors that stood out or anything, but it was still good. It's a lot of food so if you order it make sure you are hungry. Again, it's a nice restaurant and would go again.

    Fried shrimp; good.

I have Capt Benny's a 3 star for the customer service. The customer service is great but the food is not so great. I initially ordered the blackened red snapper, recommend by the waitress, it was the absolute worst fish I've tasted in years. It taste like "fish" if you know what I mean. No seasoning, I know the pic looks like it but it was obviously from the grill they use and the rice was mushy. My daughter liked the crab claws and I did return my food for the fried tilapia with fish and fries special, taste 100% better compared to the snapper and I prefer grilled or blackened to fried any day.

This place is getting 5 stars for the michelada! I ordered oysters that were with parmesan, not my favorite. But hey...,my company was amazing ...sister and cousins and COLD BEER

The restaurant that looks like a boat! Upon arrival we were greeted by multiple staff members standing by the host stand. It was a pleasant welcome. They gave us the option of an outside patio or dine in. We opted to sit at the bar. The atmosphere had a relaxed feeling with walls and decor relating to fisherman and the ocean. Once we found our bar seats at the bow of the boat we were immediately greeted by the bartender. Water no ice for me but most guest were enjoying cold beer served michelada style (hot sauce and seasonings, or bloody Mary mix at a lot of places). We ordered the seafood gumbo which was tasty but had shrimp shells inside. Then the entree followed which was a grilled skewer of shrimp and scallops. The rice and coleslaw were my favorites. The protein was over cooked for my liking giving it a rubbery texture. Once we left the staff at the door opened it for us and thanked us for our business which was nice. Price point was fair. Food was hit or miss. Atmosphere was on point. Staff very friendly and practice C19 protocol.

    Captains platter and crawfish étouffée

Good atmosphere great food space enough for intimacy between you and you girl. I would suggest this place

Feels good when an establishment takes pride in their customer's feedback and puts a plan into action. Honestly, part of me was hoping that last time was just a fluke or an off day. This time around, everything from the service to the food was great. We had a 12:30 Sunday reservation for two and opted to sit inside this time. We ordered the cast-iron cornbread, chargrilled oysters, and a cup of gumbo each to start. For entrées, I had the Gulf Fish, while my husband went with the crawfish Florentine. Everything came out beautifully timed, almost like a perfectly paced three-course meal, which obviously made the whole experience feel elevated and relaxed. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and on top of everything without being overbearing. I also tried the prickly pear aid (non-alcoholic), and it was super refreshing, definitely worth ordering if you like a little tartness to cleanse your palate. Overall, this visit felt like a completely different experience than last time. It delivered the elevated experience a place like Eunice promises and what I was used to originally. Looking forward to celebrating my birthday here in June!

Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was disappointing due to both the service and the food quality. Our server was very slow throughout the evening. After ordering cocktails, it took approximately 20 minutes for them to arrive. We then ordered our meals... I had the burger and fries, while my girlfriend ordered the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were noticeably over salted. After finishing our meals, we waited an additional 15-20 minutes just to receive a dessert menu. Eventually, we decided not to wait any longer and went to Dessert Gallery down the street instead. While the atmosphere and appearance of the restaurant were excellent, the slow service and food issues negatively impacted the experience. Based on this visit, I would likely not return.

*this review is only for crawfish, not their regular menu (which is amazing) *…read more We went here during crawfish season because they've been advertising their $8/lb crawfish, and we trusted that it would be great given the quality of their regular menu. We went on a Saturday for lunch. Hopefully this was just a one-off, but if you're looking for good Cajun boiled crawfish, this is not it. We started off with 6 lbs (group of 4) of their regular crawfish. First off, they put the Cajun seasoning on outside/shell (!!), which is a cardinal sin for Cajuns. They also minimally seasoned the boil, so the meat was lacking salt and flavor. We ordered 3 more lbs with the "wet sauce" (garlic butter), thinking the lack of flavor may be attributed to this being the first-ish batch of the day. Nope, the second batch was even less seasoned than the first. The sauce was good, but it didn't make up for the unseasoned meat. The crawfish were a good size, at least... Come on guys, I expect more from a Gulf Coast seafood restaurant!

Inside it's a nice restaurant with an upscale feel to it. I ordered a house salad for $9 to start and the Pasta Rosa entree for another $28. The salad arrived first with a generous amount of romaine lettuce with diced tomatoes, cucumber, shredded carrots and chopped eggs on top. With my chosen ranch dressing it was a good tasting salad. The Pasta Rosa dish had sliced Parmesan strips on top of penne with shrimp, crawfish and sausage for the protein with mushrooms and a tomato cream sauce. This meal initially tricked me. My first impression was that while there was plenty of protein the taste of the tomato cream sauce was lacking some flavor. I expected more. However as I kept eating and getting beyond the top layer of the food the flavor increased significantly. I think that the proteins caused the sauce in the lower half of the dish to create more punch. This dish got better and better and I changed my mind. It turned out to be a very good tasting and filling meal. Finally the table service was very good too. P.S. I also tried part of another appetizer which was the bar b q shrimp for $16. They were tasty. I like Rouxpour and would return. My only negative is that their prices are a little on the high side in my opinion.

The Chargrilled Rockefeller? That's the one you call your mama about. Big, flavorful, perfect. And the deviled eggs... listen. I don't even like deviled eggs, but these? My mouth is literally watering thinking about them. Smooth, creamy yolk, perfectly seasoned shrimp on top -- a combo I didn't know I needed. The crab cakes? Chef's kiss. Packed with fresh crab, and that aioli is doing exactly what it needs to do. The only miss for me was the crab and asparagus -- it just wasn't giving. No flavor, no cohesion... just no.
