My family took me to Golden Seafood for Father's Day. We arrived around 2:45pm and were told the wait would be around 30 minutes, it was more around 45 minutes but that was fine. We were seated and were waited on fairly quickly despite it being super busy. We ordered our food and the appetizer and drinks were brought out very fast. Our entrees arrived and two of the size orders were incorrect. One of the entrees, the grilled shrimp, arrived so late that almost everyone had finished eating. We were told that the grill was backed up and that's what had taken so long. The restaurant was very busy and people were standing around everywhere waiting on a table. The service was a little slow in regards to refilling drinks and checking up on us, but that is probably due to the holiday. The food was good, hot and the quantities were big for the price. We have been to this location several times before and the service has always been good and the orders have always been on point, so I'll let it slide and will definitely return. My first time here and I was very impressed. I was not expecting the food to be so fresh and delicious. I tried the seafood soup which was so so good and loved the flavor of the broth. The Diablo shrimp, garlic grilled shrimp, and fried shrimp were also very good. Our waitress was attentive and the restaurant was clean. Also you can't beat the great value. We love golden seafood. The prices cannot be beat for the amount and quality of food that you get. The place is always busy but my boyfriend and I always get seated quickly. He and our friends swear by the micheladas, which aren't my thing. The margaritas are fine, but I'm really there for the seafood! The shrimp diabla is my favorite with the fried rice which I crave. The shrimp platters are also so good as well. The shrimp diabla is spicy, but I'm good with spice and the waiters will warn you in case. Stopped in with my husband for a quick easy dinner. I had the Golden Garlic Shrimp. It was tasty. Not a lot of spicy other than when eating the jalapeños. I personally would have liked a bit more than just onion and shrimp. I believe next time I'd do the Diablo with more peppers included too. The waitress was polite. Slight language barrier which wasn't an issue. She was still polite as much as possible and made sure my water was full. This isn't a romantic spot. But decent for a group or just a quick meal. I've eaten at GSH twice and had the same thing both times. Their ceviche with crackers! It is IMO some of the best in Houston. The meat is chunky and the veggies are chopped the the right size! Marinated in lots of lime! Delicious! This what recommended and I couldn't forget it. The person that took me there several years ago said it was his families "go-to" seafood or "Sunday" restaurant. After that visit I hadn't been back in the area until recently. The seafood soup was perfect for a cold day. I ordered a small and it was a big bowl of soup and a big roll. I didn't think it was going to be as good as the reviews said, but I was and I would order it again and again. It is a clear broth that is a little spicy, but not too spicy. My friend and I shared a seafood platter which came with stuffed crab, a scallop, shrimp, and fish. It comes with tartar sauce and limes. Everything was lightly battered and crispy. It was a big portion and if you like fried seafood, it is a good price. I read a few reviews that the service was bad. We had a nice waitress who got our order correct and checked on us a few times to see how we were doing. No problems at all with service. I used to date a guy who insisted we go to the dollar theater on 50 cent Tuesdays. So it's no surprise that I'm now a cheap date. Dollar Lone Stars, taco stands, two-for-one passes for a day at the race track. These are the little things that keep a girl happy. Added to the list is Golden Seafood. My bff gushed about the micheladas and super inexpensive seafood. I say "inexpensive," because "cheap" has a bad connotation. The fish is actually fresh, displayed on a deli-like window for all to see. The menu is filled with a lot of fried goodies, like jumbo skrimp, fries, catfish, fried rice and others. There are "healthier" options like grilled fish (shark-like in size. And beware, it's served with the head intact), ceviche, and caldo de marisco (seafood soup), which I always order. Trust me when I say this, portions are VERY hefty here. The environment is laid back, country tunes in the background, a lot of families, groups of fellas during lunch, oftentimes, pervy but harmless men at the bar, and gals like me and some friends looking to soak our hands in some crispy fried food. I met my friend Mikey B @ the bar for a late night michelada and food. They are serious about their micheladas too. I ordered the stuffed crab and shrimp plate with fried rice. I was surprised that it was shrimp fried rice :) It was decent. The portion is good. You can get fries instead of rice too. Overall, it was a good stomach filler. The only yuck part is the strange lady that was sitting next to me at the bar. She kept giving us these weird stares. Awkward! Do not eat here. Thought the food is decent and prices are cheap, the staff is awful. They messed up my to go order and charged me to fix it. When I asked to have it not charged, they told me they had a shift change and whomever approved it was gone. This came after the last time when I asked for 1 three filet plate, and they gave me 3 3 filet plates. When I called to bring them back, they said "didn't huh notice you had more?" No. I didn't. This spot has been on my want-to-eat list for awhile and I finally made it out here for lunch recently. Let me tell you, it was worth the wait because I was fairly impressed with the food! What I tried: 1. Beverage-Michelada with Corona- the micheladas here do not disappoint. Just the right amount of kick and perfect with an ice-cold Corona, wedge of lime, and pinch of salt. Delicious! 2. Fried shrimp plate- My husband got this and it was just the right amount of food for him to polish off on his own. The regular shrimp are a respectable size. 3. Fried shrimp and fish plate- I got this and ate 3/4 of it with 1/4 boxed up to take home. The fish was super fresh and SO GOOD. Loved the light, crispy batter. I got fried rice as my side and it was yummy, too! 4. Ceviche- we shared this as an appetizer and it was my favorite part of the meal! Extremely fresh and just really, really nicely prepared. It was plenty for 2 to share- could definitely stretch it to feed 4 if everyone orders their own entrées. Would return just to eat this... Top notch! I can't wait to return and try the seafood soup. I looked around and it seemed like a popular dish! Also- we had great service and the women's restroom was pretty clean, too. We have been eating here over 20 years. Today, we ordered Combination Platter for 2. Everything was fine except somebody flattened the shrimp before frying. They were like potato chips with tails. Husband told the waitress who said they had always been that way. Maybe since she's been working there. Then, he went looking for the manager. She said the same thing and that there were plenty of customers and nobody else was complaining. Husband said he was telling her out of courtesy -- thought she would like to know but there are plenty of other places we could eat. She told him if he didn't like the food, he could go elsewhere. Couple from next table was leaving and stopped by to ask if we were complaining about the shrimp. They had been disappointed, too. Husband encouraged them to talk to the manager. We decided to finally try this place after a friend raved about it. I wish we would have not done this. I had the grilled shrimp and fried rice. The fried rice was hard and had no flavor, soy sauce didn't even help. The shrimp Were fine at $13.99 for 6 since they only had jumbo shrimp. They put WAY too much seasoning on it. The grilled onions had this spice and a funny flavor as well. My rice had a big roasted jalapeño on it. I cannot handle spice since I have health issues. We both had a glass of water and it was nasty tap water. My husband said the fried fish "wasn't too bad but it wasn't that good, Connie's does it better". The prices were fine and the place was clean enough, but parking is tight and scarce. I think we will stick with our favorites Tampico and Connie's.
