4/11/2026: Great experience! Nick took wonderful care of us. The restaurant has plenty of parking near the entrance. The interior is Mardi Gras/New Orleans themed. There are several types of seating available. They have a large patio - one section covered, one section open. They also have bar seating inside, regular chairs/table seating, and chair with a half booth seating. We were welcome by many of the staff immediately when we entered. Very welcoming. They have sweet tea! I love sweet tea. :) My Friend had a Bloody Mary. They had a $5 special for drinks. We split the Buffalo shrimp and the Gulf Wedge salad. The Buffalo shrimp (8 to an order) came with celery and ranch for dipping. They were just like I remembered years ago from the Richmond location. I'm not usually a Buffalo sauce type person, but their shrimp with their sauce is the bomb! The shrimp are large, so the entree is great for splitting. The Gulf Wedge has crab meat, bacon, grape tomatoes, and a hardboiled egg. It also comes with red onion and blue cheese crumbs, but I do not like either of those, so I had those removed from my half. I also prefer ranch dressing instead of blue cheese dressing. The salad was a great addition to our shrimp. Very tasty and filling. Nick was happy to make the substitutions for me. Many restaurants have an issue with splitting dishes. I was happy RC, via Nick, did this for us. For these reasons, Nick made out with a 25% tip. We swung by for an impromptu dinner a few weeks back and had a great first visit. I grew up eating at the Ragin' Cajun on Richmond, and was excited to hear about the new location popping up in Spring Branch. The restaurant sits on Wirt, just South of Long Point, and has its own private parking lot behind a gated perimeter. There is plenty of seating. They have tons of covered outdoor tables, indoor tables, booths, and bar top options. I also noticed there's a little turfed area for kids to play on the side of the restaurant, and the outdoor seating appears to be kid friendly, so bring the whole household. (minus the cat I guess) We came on a Friday and decided to split the Boiled Seafood Friday Special. We got a lobster tail, 2 blue crabs, 1 snow crab cluster, 1/2 lb. boiled shrimp, corn, 2 potatoes, and lemon garlic butter sauce for dipping all for $40. There was plenty of food to split between two people and everything came out great. I'm sure I'll be back to try out the menu staples, but that Friday special was a nice surprise! Service was very on top of our table. Our waiter came by constantly to make sure we have what we needed, helped with questions, and never let a water glass or a beer get too low. Overall, it was a great first visit to an old Houston favorite, and I'm sure we'll find ourselves back again soon enough. read more

I've been here twice to dine recently after having discovered it in Spring Branch. It's been many years since I dined at their Westheimer area location and back then I thought it was average. My first visit here was for lunch and I tried their lunch special of a 1/2 fried seafood po boy, cup of gumbo and a drink for $16. I opted for fried shrimp and a cup of seafood gumbo. While waiting about 10 minutes for the food, I looked at all of the interior decor most of which is sports oriented which gives this restaurant character. I liked the po boy. It was on very good bread (which I was told came from a Houston bakery) and with the fried shrimp, lettuce, tomato and remoulade sauce was tasty. The gumbo was ok but had a little spiciness flavor that wasn't my favorite. I prefer gumbo with a dark rich roux however it was served in a small bowl and was a larger portion than I expected. However I still graded the meal as a 4 as it was also reasonably priced. The next visit a week later was for dinner. Then I asked for the regular size fried catfish dinner ($15) and then added a side salad for $5 more. The salad arrived about 10 minutes later. It had diced carrots and cucumbers along with cherry tomatoes on a bed of lettuce. It was a nice looking and good tasting salad. While I was the eating the salad, another waitress brought me a small plate with one piece of fried catfish on it. She smiled at me and left. I had a mouth full of salad so I was unable to ask her what it was for. After finishing the salad, I tried to see my waitress that took my order but she disappeared for at least 15 minutes. Something didn't seem right and I didn't understand why that piece of fish was there. Maybe it was some lagniappe that they brought me to nibble on? Since it was getting cold, I broke off a couple of pieces and ate them. Finally almost 20 minutes after the fish was delivered my original waitress appeared and asked me if I wanted anything else? I looked at her puzzled and said "what do you mean? I am still waiting on my food". Somehow when I ordered my meal she thought that I wanted to substitute my sides of fries and hush puppies for the side salad! I have no idea how she came to that conclusion. It would have too long for them to redo my entree order with fresh catfish so I declined that and paid for my drink and salad and left. This tragedy could have been averted if she had not disappeared from me for 20 minutes. Poor service! (2). I am undecided if I will return. read more

We enjoyed our visit to this location of Ragin'....the RC po-boy special was amazing, half of a fried seafood po-boy ( I picked fried shrimp) and a cup of seafood gumbo and a drink was just what I was needing. The shrimp on the po-boy was fried just right and I got the sammy dressed out. The seafood gumbo was some of the best i've had lately, they have chicken and sausage too but the seafood was what I wanted today. My wife enjoyed her fried shrimp platter with fries done right and hush puppies. They make some tasty biegnets too. Picked me up an extra large black tee shirt with their logo on the back and large lettering on the front saying eat oysters love longer....I like it! We're already planninng our next visit. Disappointed, the food was ok. The server really tried to pay attention, which was nice. But the music - OMG. They played very loud 80s breakdance music. While I love and grew up with 80s music, it was too loud and too much of an 80s club playlist - literally breakdance songs. The employees were literally dancing and laughing. Ruined the vibe for me. The service was great. The atmosphere was very clean and nice but unremarkable. The problem was the food, which is why we went in the first place. We asked for the calamari appetizer to be crispy, and the waiter should have cautioned us that it might make the calamari chewy. It was worse than chewy, we couldn't chew it almost at all it was so rubbery. The rest of the food was good. The fried fish and shrimp were well prepared and the gumbo was tasty (although it didn't have any okra). They gave us a free dessert for my birthday which was very cool of them. We took the bread pudding to go, and when we had it, it was bland. The swirls of cinnamon running through it didn't even taste of cinnamon. I'm so pleased that Ragin Cajun is finally open in Spring Branch. Just south of Longpoint, on Wirt, Ragin Cajun is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Open for just a few months, the restaurant is a great reflection of New Orleans architecture including a large, inviting patio. On our first visit, we enjoyed boudin, snow crab, a mufaletta sandwich and grilled oysters. All were good with my favorite being the sandwich. It's one of the best I've had in years. I stop by this new location the other day, for the first time. It's been years since I ate at Ragin Cajun. I order the beef debris and grits. The flavor was there, but too runny with the gravy making the grits runny and you could taste the grits flavor. Not really worth the cost to order to go. I also had a piece single piece of catfish. Great Louisiana dirty catfish taste, but the batter was so bland! I mean really bland! So I had to add hot sauce to for flavor. Not sure if I'll be back or not, but overall not to bad. You just have to know what's good to order, which is like most restaurants these days and what's good/bang for the buck! Everything is so expensive now. read more

Ambiance was fine. Cleaner than I expected. There is a private parking lot. Service was really good. I really like our waitress. She was kind, professional, and no nonsense. I don't recall her name. We went on a Friday for lunch. Showed up at 11:15 am before the rush. It definitely got busy while we were there. Average age of clientele was ~55 years old. The food: - September happened to be 50% off po boys and $5 cups of gumbo so we took advantage of that. - Gumbo was OK. Shrimp was over cooked and soup not that hot. The flavor of the roux was good but not great. Worth a try I think. - Po boys: the size is spectacular. So big. No way I could finish one so I took half of it to go. The problem: no flavor. For a Cajun place, you would think it would have spices and flavor. Pretty much none. So if you use a ton of hot sauce, it's not bad. If you like bland Cajun food, this is a great place. If you want flavor, add a few tablespoons of hot sauce or go somewhere else. Honesty is the best policy. read more

Location 1 years old I found it with Google search when I came to the area for windshield repair. The chargrilled oysters which are better than the ones at pappadeaux hands down ! The shrimp and grits entree was delightful I think I will try the roast beef and grits next time!! I'll definitely be back sooner than later ! Parking is plentiful and service was good . I have eaten at the location on Wirt many times but I'm finding the quality of the food is very inconsistent. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's really not. Shrimp should never be fishy and smell old and the last Muffaletta ordered was truly horrible. The service has always been good. I hope they do better. read more

I went with family. My brother lives in California and wanted to have gumbo. He ordered crawfish though. It comes with corn and a potato. I ordered a caesar salad. Connor is a fantastic and enthusiastic waiter. While a caesar salad for $8 is a great price, the dressing flavor just wasn't there. The serving is generous and the croutons were good. The restaurant is spacious and there is indoor and outside seating. There are moist towelettes for those eating crawfish. My brother liked his food. I didn't see sodas on the drinks' menu. read more

We stop in here all the time for lunch and dinner. I especially love how I can just get a pound of crawfish at a time - perfect serving for me. The wait staff is top notch, friendly, remember you. It is the perfect neighborhood restaurant. I would like to add that I left my purse behind last Friday night. I called Saturday morning, they had it locked in there office. I ran up to get it and I still had $250 in it. Honest, hardworking people. We will keep coming back. read more

This location started out very well, and is now crashing downward. They get 2 stars, instead of one, because the music was not at ear-bleeding volume for a change. They are either understaffed (on a Saturday night) or grossly mismanaged. We only saw our waiter every 20 minutes while other staff were sitting at a table playing on their phones. Looks like our waiter had the bar and some of the outside area also. Fortunately there is a drink machine over by the take-out bar, so we were able to refill our drinks. If this store is not geared for table service, then just go back to the Richmond (counter service) model. read more

Ok so the good the building is super new and looks incredibly clean it's a nice atmosphere to catch a beer maybe the game, not to bad on the price they seem to have rotating specials everyday even the weekends. So I ordered the crawfish and they are made a "traditional way" it has a really good level of spicy and not bland it taste pretty good but I am used to being able to have Cajun spice, butter and garlic added but they told me they don't make theirs that way.... They are okay wouldn't go back for the crawfish maybe go back to get a beer or some fried fish...... I did add the egg that was good and the mushrooms were okay as well.... The corn wasn't loaded with flavor it was just okay..... one thing I did notice is that the crawfish didn't look super cleaned up they seem to need to be purged..... over all it was acceptable but would not be my first choice. First time to try this place. Order 1 bowl of shrimp and crab gumbo. 1 bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo. Two orders of jalapeno cornbread. One catfish poorboy (to share with wife.) The waiter brought 2 cups of gumbo instead of bowls. Did us a favor, neither was good gumbo. Editable but not at all like the gumbo we get in Louisiana. The roux was bland and actually tasted like it was made from a bad packaged product. The catfish poorboy was literally all bread. They put one very small fried fish fillet in an extremely large (diameter) roll. It was a bread sandwich! I talked to the manager about the sandwich, to which she listened and said she was sorry we did not like it. No alcohol on the ticket, 1 soft drink. Bill was $50.00 for two small cups of tasteless gumbo and a bread sandwich. I think we can find better food elsewhere. Good luck if you go to this place, we didn't find any! read more

My review is based on eating at Ragin Cajun ever since its been in Houston. So having said that here goes! We waited and waited for this location to open and were excited when we learned that it had, so we went in today November 4, 2023. The restaurant is tucked away securely in the area of Long Point and Wirt. You enter what looks like a gated community where you find lots of parking at this newly built restaurant. You walk in, turn right and place your order, then have a seat where you are greeted by the wait staff. I ordered my usual: chicken and sausage gumbo and boudin. My wife ordered her usual: red beans and rice and cornbread. First my review of my eats! It is expected that with new location comes with new cooks to prepare old excellent recipes, so I assume that is the scenario here. I give the gumbo and boudin an 8 out of 10 for this location. Ive never ever had the boudin brought to the table sliced or broken open. The gumbo was on par. Now for my wife's red beans and rice and cornbread. She would give it a 7 compared to the Richmond location. She stated that much of the rice was hard and or under cooked. The cornbread was also hard and not of the soft and steaming delicious caliber of the Richmond location. Realizing they have only been open for 2 weeks, we will give them a 2nd try, but not anytime soon. We will let them get their feet on the ground! Again, we are long time patrons of the Richmond Street location and the old Westheimer location, now closed. So our critique is based on the food at those locations. We know that new comers will enjoy the food and atmosphere, but for us if our next visit does not prove differently, will have to go back to Richmond Avenue even though it is farther away.
