I always go to Captain Jacks while on vacation. Went there last night and was sorely disappointed to discover they have downgraded their crab legs. They were once enormous and now they are the same size you'd find at much cheaper buffets. Additionally, they have always been "serve yourself ", but not anymore. This is not a COVID measure, as everything but the crab legs is self-serve. It's a cost cutting measure. I understand business, but for the price, they just lost mine. read more

After reading the Yelp reviews, it appeared that either you love or hate this place. I found it to be a great buffet. The crab legs were very good which is really the only thing I ate. Some have complained about the $49.99 adult price and they may have a point to some extent unless you're only there for the crab legs. That being said, I know I'm on vacation and I was expecting to pay a little more than the going rate so it was fine. The staff were great. We were seated immediately, even though we had a group of 17. We did go right when they opened, so that helped. All in all, I would definitely go there again. read more

We went to Capt Jacks on a Saturday night around 8pm. They close at 9pm (or that is at least their posted closing time). We were seated immediately. Food was fresh and there was plenty of it. Our thing is crab leg buffets...we've been to a few. These were smaller legs than some we had but the taste, freshness, and supply was great. The other seafood was tasty and fresh too. I did not eat any side items...just had boiled shrimp, crab salad and crab legs. We got our money's worth. A group in front of us asked what happens if they are not done by 9pm. The hostess told him 9pm is just the time they stop seating, but would continue to stock the bar until the last person was full. Pretty cool! It was $39.95 per person. Much cheaper than some places. The staff was very friendly. Our waiter was very efficient on waiting on our table. We didn't even have to ask for napkins or refills. The only thing that could have been better would be a bigger variety of food choices on the buffet. However they did have endless crab legs witch was amazing! read more

That got put down real quick, we walk in and grab our plates, and got what we wanted, and started eating, and the crab legs are okay but you have no sauce, all there is, is butter flavored oil, not even real butter.... I ate here on my first night of vacation, wouldn't recommend to anyone. Shrimp was overcooked to the point it was mushy not even firm almost stewed. The crab was overcooked or not fresh and didnt snap it just bent and the meat was shriveled and didnt pull very well. The steak had good flavor but was also overcooked and served in steaming water. The baked cod was super dry. The fried cod and okra was the best prepared item on the buffet. Im from Indiana so I would think florida would have some of the freshest seafood or at least know how to cook it. I paid $190 for 2 adults and 2 children to eat here. Give me a fire and a bucket of saltwater and I can cook better. I went with my family and friends we were vacationing with and the food was THE WORST!!!! Crab legs were blah! Butter sauce was just melted butter no seasoning. Crab cakes are fried in the shell and tasted NASTY! Mac n cheese was GROSS! Chicken strips were soooo tiny. Very little choices for kids who don't eat seafood. The spaghetti was DISGUSTING!! The steak was BURNT AND SOOOOOOO NASTY!!! My husband tried 1 bite of the steak, gumbo, rice and crab cakes and said it was the NASTIEST food he's ever eaten and he's not picky at all! Way overpriced and the advertised selection is very misleading. They charged our 14 year old $39.95 and our 9 year old $15.95. No option for price if you do not get crab legs. The food on the buffet was typical buffet food. Our server never spoke after asking what we wanted to drink. Do not waste your money here. The experience we have EVERY year (this was our 11th year) is exceptional. We go for crab legs....anything else is extra to us. Yet, the fried foods ( shrimp, oysters, clams, fish, scallops) were all freshly cooked. Even the deviled crab were soft and hot. We thought having to be served from the bar would be a negative experience.....NOT AT ALL. We now prefer that....we never felt like they attempted to control our portion. If anyone complains about the price...then go to your local seafood market or grocery and see if you can buy the amount of crab legs you can eat for $40.00. This is a vacation tradition and will be as long as the quality continues as it has for more than a decade. Servers are friendly and keep drinks filled and plates off the table. Mediocre at best. Way over priced for the quality. Our crab was over cooked. It did not slide out of the shell. We had to dig it out. The Old Bay Shrimp was way over cooked. The cold boiled shrimp, crab salad and coconut shrimp was good. The rest of the items were run of the mill buffet. Maybe our expectations were too high since seafood is part of our lives being from Louisiana. We really thought at $50 a person it would be exceptional. $200 for 3 people after tip is a bit excessive. Their big kid prices don't apply to 13 year olds. They are considered adults. I have to admit, I'm not a buffet person. I went to this restaurant with family/friends and it was worse than expected. No soap in the men's room (pretty important at a buffet) I notified the host and she said she would let her manager know. She did not. I notified the manager myself and she explained that there was hand sanitizer. (The hand sanitizer next to the buffet was also out). This is a buffet, so my expectations of the food were not terribly high. There's not a lot of selection, but what is available was actually quite good. Crab legs were kept full, and they don't have someone there policing how many you can get at one time. Our server Caleb was excellent. My glass was never empty and he frequently cleared the table.
