I love batter dipped cod fillets and this is my go to place after home made. Been getting drive through most of the time. Three piece fish dinner with coleslaw and fried okra was my choice on most recent visit. Fish and slaw were very good. Fried okra was pathetic, no crunch at all, a soggy mess. Went to go dine in just now lady said they weren't open for dine in only take out orders when the sign shows closing time is 10. The lady in the front got upset bc we walked in through the entrance and said the wet floor sign was there for a reason got upset because we went through that door the floor was already dry we had to walk out she wasn't very welcoming. We have been coming here for years and never have felt unwelcome until tonight. First, I love Captain D's! There have been times when the food was a little less than perfect, but the friendliness of the staff made up for it. Today, however, I noticed an increase in prices. I get it, everyone is doing it and trying to stay alive. But...you can't do a price increase AND lower food quality/portion sizes at the same time. Battered fish pieces - considerably smaller and now more expensive. Gumbo? Well, if you want a child size cup of wet rice someone has whispered "shrimp" over for FOUR Dollars, go for it. Been coming here for over 20 years and still love it.Food is always hot and fresh.The man in charge is Guillermo. And he runs that place like a fine watch.He seems to love his customers and is very friendly. He also has nice hair. Restaurant is always spotless and employees are always friendly and service oriented. Sundays and Wednesdays are the days to go.They have platters for six bucks each and you will be satisfied and stuffed.Also included is a drink. Frustrated About Combo Meals This is the only place I know of, that doesn't include a drink with their combo meals. They will give you a tiny cup of water that's luke war however. The fish is good, and it hurts me to only give it two stars, but they need to get with the program and give you a drink with your meal. Fountain drinks are super cheap, so tack on 50 cents to the meals and give us a drink. We actually choose other places to eat because we know we can get drinks without being charged extra. UPDATE: as of June 2020, was told at the drive thru combo meals now come with a drink. Yay! But wait, upon my next visit I was told only certain combo meals, and only on certain days, come with a drink...BOO!!! So I'm done with the Captain! Lowering to 1 Star. By the way, a fountain drink costs businesses about 15 cents...just so you know. read more

Hadn't been to Captain D's in at least 10 years but the Fort Worth Foodies Group on Facebook had someone talking about their clam strips...and there ya go! Had to give 'em a shot! I'm so glad I did! Went thru the drive-thru and service was quick and friendly. I decided to go with 2 orders since they were listed on the appetizer menu. Delicious. Crispy, melt in my mouth clam strip goodness. I savoured every single morsel down to the last little batter crunchy. Two was plenty to fill my belly but sure didn't stop my mind of thinking of them or my taste buds from craving another order or 2. Cost was $6.83 for 2. Not bad! It's been years since I went to a fast food fish place like this. We used to go to a Long John's that is pretty near to our home, but their quality is all over the place. One night it will be acceptable, on another visit it'll be so greasy you think you're going to choke on a glob of Crisco. So tonight, we decided to try Captain D's on Hwy 80. I have to say, it was not bad. I feel like it would have been better if we hadn't gotten take-out. I think we live about 2 miles too far away to get optimal quality from bring their food home. But what was there on my plate was pretty good. It was good enough that I plan to try this restaurant again only next time I'll dine in and see what it's like without the travel time involved. All in all, not bad and I'm eager to try them again. See you next time Captain! read more

I have been going there for a long time, even through my highschool years, the Country style fish I love, not soo soggy just crispy and tender, their chicken tenders are decent as well, this was the first time I tried Crab cakes, and i liked them I dont eat them often but i liked them. oh their mac n cheese has improved over the years let me just say just mix with Brocholli you wont be dissapointed. This was great fish. We got a family value meal. The cod was fresh, tender, not fishy tasting and the batter was crisp and didn't taste like it had been fried in old oil. I really enjoyed the fish. Next time, they were out of honey mustard, but just put the one other sauce I ordered in there without mentioning it, until I came back for it. Not worth the hassle. Came here after deciding I wanted to change of pace and wanted to get out of my usual routine and I hadn't been to a Captain D in years. The great arch rival of ol' Long John Silver. There is ample parking for those that decide to come here and this place was good though the loud smooth jazz playing over the speakers was kind of weird. The place was clean and was fairly busy when I came in on my lunch break. They have counter service and you can get yourself either some fried fish or chicken. I actually opted for a combo platter with both. I kinda liked the chicken better. Combo plate comes with your choice of a few sides and hush puppies and the condiments are for your taking when you hit up the condiment area. Overall the food tastes better than average but not my favorite. It's held a pretty standard flavor of what I remember what this place taste like and it will probably be a while before I make it to another Captain D's. If you're looking for variety, maybe this is the place for you. read more
