My first impression of Hopdoddy was not a good one, and unfortunately it had very little to do with the food. I had never been before because I'd always heard it was overpriced and overrated, but a friend wanted to try it, so we stopped in. After ordering, we selected the closest available table. We later moved because our original table (Table 21) had gnats flying around it and there appeared to be a flickering light or backlight issue that felt almost like a strobe effect. As we were moving, the bartender, Jonathan, saw us and rudely asked, "Where did they tell you to sit at the register?" He then continued, in a rude and condescending tone, to tell us we needed to go back to the front and let them know we'd changed tables. We already planned to do that, as we understood the staff needed the correct table number to deliver our food and drinks. His interaction was unnecessarily rude. The attitude continued at the table. We ordered and paid for two Old Fashioneds, for my friend, and a whiskey sour for myself. Jonathan comes over and, again with the tone, tells us he didn't have large ice cubes available, which wasn't a problem. I tell him that's fine. My friend then asked if his drinks could be served chilled, no ice. Jonathan responded, "It doesn't matter, it's going to be watered down anyway." Again, the tone!! Completely dismissive and unprofessional. As for the food, I ordered the bacon jam burger and truffle fries. The burger was actually pretty good. The fries were okay. Personally, I prefer thicker cut fries. The whiskey sour was decent. The most frustrating part came when only one of my friend's two Old Fashioneds arrived and by the time we were nearly finished eating, we still hadn't seen the second drink. When my friend asked about it, Jonathan told him he had combined both drinks into a single glass and made it a double. That isn't what was ordered. If a customer pays for two drinks and you decide to serve them differently, that should be communicated upfront. From the customer's perspective, it simply looked like one regular Old Fashioned was delivered and the second never arrived. And honestly, we don't know that this is not the case b/c not only was there no discussion, we didn't see him make it. Good food can make up for a lot. Poor customer service can undo it just as quickly. While I enjoyed the burger, Jonathan's attitude and the handling of the drink order left a lasting negative impression on what was my first visit to Hopdoddy. I'll stick to Rodeo Goat! read more

The protein bowl banner caught my eye so I tried the probably version: very generously sized and very tasty. The Brussel Sprouts Bowl with Parm Truffle was equally tasty. Once again, I had a magic shrooms burger and it was pretty wonderful except for the fact that I couldn't eat but half of it and it was wrapped in lettuce so big that I had to cut it up with a fork, but that's OK because it was worth it. The lady at the front counter wasn't all that friendly, but it's OK because the other people helping out were full of smiles, and he never know when someone's having a bad day. I also ordered truffle fries, which is a huge mistake because I only ate maybe 10 fries. It's just entirely too much food for one person, but the fries are gluten-free so I had to go for it. Next time I'm gonna meet my fellow Yelp friend she can share my fries. Just a note this place has a menu on the wall as well as one you can grab on your way to the counter. Came for lunch and tried a few of their items. I tried the fries with the green chili queso and this was surprisingly good. You can taste the chilis in the queso but it's not hot at all! I also tried the chicken lollipops (which seems to be a seasonal item) and they were good as well - I enjoyed the buffalo flavoring. I've been here three times, and every visit has involved at least one employee being unnecessarily rude. The only consistently friendly people have been the managers. On my last visit, we sat at the bar an hour before closing. When we ordered a soda, the bartender handed us an empty cup and told us to get it ourselves from the soda machine, even though I'd ordered the same drink from the bar on a previous visit. After that, he checked on us one time when our meal was almost done, and we sat with empty waters for most of our meal. When he finally came back, he made a rude comment about having to get his manager to remove a soda from the ticket, even though we never asked him for anything our whole visit other then a singular water refill. They don't take cash! What the hell? They REQUIRE use of a card. As you pay (in advance), before you've served yourself to make drinks, get ketchup or plastic ware for your table - a screen prompts you to leave a tip - suggestions are 15%, 18% or 20%. Since they have done nothing at this point except take my money (except they won't take MONEY), I had no idea what to tip. I tipped ZERO. I normally tip 18 - 20% for good (not self) service. The sign says to choose your own table, yet they told us which table to go to. Then it's all self-serve to set your table, except for a roll of industrial paper towels on the table. Bring your own ketchup, water, forks, etc. The food arrives and is great. They have Parmesan Truffle fries, which are excellent. Varieties of amazing burger combinations, and cocktails and shakes with alcohol. The service at your table once they bring your food is very good. Helpful servers and busboys (bus-persons?), and generally friendly staff. The family drove north from Round Rock after Thanksgiving and dropped off my oldest at the TCU game. When we walked in I had a déjà vu and remember the family had been in a similar place but the experience and price no bueno. When you walk in, you are greeted by the employees. You place the order before you sit down and select the table you will be sitting at for your meal. The little rhino had a kids burger meal with fries and a kids drink, me and middle kid had double bacon cheeseburger and mom had the classic. She ordered the green chile queso fries. I took my monkies to wash their hands, located at the back or restaurant, and the music was loud in there but most importantly very clean restrooms. They brought the fries, in a big silver bowl, to our table and the queso on the side. This bowl fed all of us. Next came the burgers and over all cooked well not burned. The cheese melted well, making each bite juicy. The meal for 4 burgers $54 with water only. The taste is very good, clean environment and positive employees. The burger is a bit sloppy but tasty none the less, the bacon jam is good stuff and it was cooked medium rare as requested which is always a plus as I'm not a fan of a cooked through Patty. The Parmesan Truffle fries were delicious as I would expect lol hard to me up those flavors, I asked for the Truffle aioli on the side and I'm glad I did cause it's a strong flavor and I enjoyed just dipping the fries in it. A chill place to go dine at, we ordered the bacon jam burger with grilled jalapeños, the classic with cheese and bacon added, the Parmesan fries, an angry orchard bottle and a drink they had I believed it was called the pink man? Food was pretty tasty, although I did remember coming here a few years ago and swore the burgers were bigger than that, definitely had PLENTY of room left for dessert. I've tried most of the burgers here, and you can't go wrong. The burgers have shrunken over the years. My go-to is the Goodnight Good Cause. We ordered Truffle Parmesan Fries and Sweet Potato Fries. Both are normally so good, but this time they were over cooked and burnt. So hard and awful.. I was sad. That's my kind of flavor combo: spicy, sweet, and super herbaceous. Jon ordered the green chile queso fries last time, which were good, but not my favorite. I'm not really a fries with queso kinda person, I much prefer a crunchy chip if I'm dipping into something. The staff was great and service was quick.
