It's been a while since we have been to a Captain George's. It's a good place for a basic seafood fix. No bells and whistles, it just gets the job done. We were seated pretty quick for a Friday night just after 5:30pm. An adult buffet is $49.99 per person. That is not including the drink. The staff while some are good, others meh. One hostess showing off midriff and smelling like marijuana. Some of the side conversations against a wall are not the place personally. Do that in the kitchen away from others. Lo was great along with Abby. They were both polite and attentive. Our drinks were constantly filled, and any help or questions we had, were handled. Customers are a melting pot. Some are vultures with crab legs. It is very loud inside and the tables are tight within each other. Some smelled of marijuana as well. The food is ok. The crab legs hit the spot for me. There is an extensive dessert section, two bays. The brisket with gravy was flavorful. The tips of the asparagus were not trimmed, but once we took care of that, it was petty good. Overall it was fine and did the trick, fed us. A good place to get a seafood fix. But, not the place for a special quiet meal. read more

With the choices this place has and the food always fresh and hot it's completely worth it if you get 3 plates of crab , 2 plates of sides or non seafood and 1 plate of dessert. If you can't handle that challenge, try their kids menu options they are under $15 and could feed TWO adults. Or you can be cutesy and try another personal entree off their menu. No matter what you choose, this is worth a try and always a go to when we visit Virginia. This place has been one of my favorites since I was a teen! I haven't been in years & it still was just as I remember. I always come for the buffet, I've never ordered ala cart. The rolls are incredible. Mac & cheese reminds me of stouffers (which I love). Crab legs & steamed shrimp are my favorites so I usually fill up on that! The sirloin steak looked good but unfortunately had an odd texture & I didn't care for the seasonings on it. The cherry cheesecake is my favorite dessert & I tried the baklava which was also good! Everyone is always very nice & the restaurant itself is just so pretty with the high ceilings and stained glass. I love coming early in Sundays to save just a tiny bit of money. read more

I am not a seafood lover so when a friend suggested we go there a few weeks weeks ago I was a bit hesitant! However, they do have two steaks on their menu. One is a Delmonico Steak and the other is a Strip Steak. I had the Delmonico Steak and it was delicious! So tender and full of flavor! Also, had several glasses of Malbec Wine which was wonderful! read more

Another Seafood buffet spot because my Auntie wanted to come here for her birthday. The place is huge. The buffet tables are in the back and we sat in one of the areas near the front that had a huge round stained glass ceiling in the center. That was beautiful. Once the drink orders were placed, we went to the buffet. Nice options such as the squash and zucchini, steamed clams, pasta salad, Oysters Rockefeller, Pork ribs, and Steak. I tried to eat as much as I could but 1.5 plates in I was done. Also I had to save room for birthday cake. Tip: Beware of when they bring out the crab legs. People descend on those trays fast. I will give them props for seating our large group approximately 1.5 hours before the place was closing. The servers were organized and handled all of our drink orders with ease and the patience of saints. We even offered them a piece of birthday cake. One staffer was an event photographer who went around taking pictures of everyone and offered them for $15 a piece. As much as I don't usually like this, I appreciated it as I didn't take that many photos of the night and she really took good high-quality pics. We went to Captain George's a couple of Saturday's ago. We were a part of 4. There was a long line but as tables cleared a hostess would come out so people didn't have to wait unnecessarily. They were very efficient at clearing the line. Our wait was minimal. Once inside it was very clean with beautiful stained glass. The food was delicious. items were replenished on the food bar continuously. It was a great experience. When I visit Virginia Beach again I will be back to Captain George's Seafood. read more

For the price (around $50 per person), I expected a much larger seafood selection. The food was decent, but the variety was lacking compared to other seafood buffets in the area. Some items were good, but there weren't enough premium options to justify the cost. Captain George is one of our favorite restaurants in the Virginia Beach area. We make sure to stop by every time we're in town. The restaurant has always been nicely decorated, but the recent renovation made it look even better. Service is consistently top-notch, and the buffet items are always refilled and refreshed. I'm genuinely impressed by how clean the restaurant stays, especially with the number of people they serve. There's a huge variety of dishes tons of sides, steamed and fried seafood, chicken, ribs, and plenty of desserts. Be cautious when purchasing gift certificates from this restaurant. There are likely other places with better food and hands down better management. We purchased a $150 gift certificate directly from the restaurant months ago and had both the order confirmation and proof of payment from our bank. When we attempted to use it, staff claimed we did not have the correct number and could not locate the gift certificate in their system. Rather than resolving what appeared to be an internal recordkeeping issue, management told us we would need to pay again or face police involvement. We spent a significant portion of our evening trying to prove that we had already paid for the gift certificate.we even left extra $25 cash to make sure we didn't leave behind any difference. The food was good, but the handling of this situation completely overshadowed the experience. If you purchase a gift certificate here, make sure you verify exactly what information will be required to redeem it and keep every piece of documentation. They called the police. And we have been waiting for them. We also called the non emergency line to give them some additional context. It's a shame that this inept, record keeping problem - or attempt to get another $200 from an already paying customer- wastes valuable officer time. 100% would NOT recommend! read more

Went here on a Friday around 7 pm. I always wanted to try this buffet out and finally got the chance recently. Didn't have to wait to be seated; surprisingly, because the place was packed and busy. Pretty big inside and our waitress was nice. They had a cocktail menu on the table and I decided to try the Long Island (8/10) it was pretty good. As for the buffet food, I'm going to give it a 5/10 overall. I was definitely left pretty disappointed with what I had to eat. I was expecting a bit more variety and options. Now they do have a decent little selection from seafood to non-seafood, but it was still pretty lackluster. My plate of non-seafood included sausage, beef, biscuits, string beans, mashed potato's...all lacking seasoning and just wasn't all that. I had multiple plates of seafood, first I tried their fried shrimp, fish tacos, clams, mussels, and crawfish...really nothing spectacular. I also had their crab legs which I had to wait a decent time in line for. Every time they brought out a new fresh pan was about every 3 to 5 minutes and each time the people in line put the whole pan on their plate lol. Well once I did finally get some, they were cold when I got back to my table and there was no seasoning on them! The butter sauce for them was plain butter, I had to ask about a cup of seasoning for everything (2/10). Now that I've gotten to experience eating here, I really don't see myself coming back unless someone I know or family just really wanted to eat here for some reason. It's been 15 years since my last review of this place, and wow has it gone downhill since I last remembered. My last dining experience here was in 2012 and it was significantly better back then than it is now. Snow crab legs - So salty that you don't want to eat much of it. Steamed clams - These are the tiniest clams you can get. Clam chowder - It tasted like there was too much flour. Beef brisket - I wanted to try this, but they ran out of this for the night, and it wasn't even close to closing time. Sirloin steak - I didn't bother to try this, there was plenty of it and it didn't look tasty. There was a ton of fried seafood, and it was between ok and mediocre. Anything that wasn't steamed or fried was very salty. The vegetables like the mushrooms, green beans, zucchini, broccoli, and corn on the cob saved my meal. Again, some of it was salty but not as salty as the entrees. I tried some of the desserts. There was quite the variety and everything looked house made. I can't comment much as I don't like my desserts too sweet, and everything here was pretty sweet. I did enjoy the rice pudding the most -- of all the desserts it was nice and light and not too sweet. This was a very pleasant experience. The service was extremely phenomenal... Upon walking in the very kind manager Tiffany greeted us with a warm welcome along with the hostess and even offered a wheel chair for our elder. As we were a larger group from church, their patience and kindness with our elderly and disabled was super accommodating and appreciated. Several times our waitress Cindy took plates to our table after seeing us disabled walking from the food bar. We also had two other extremely attentive servers on our party Miranda and Brandon who were super helpful and pleasant. They served with a smile and with care. The food buffet was kept very clean and stacked. And everything was hot and fresh. Overall great experience. And way more food than one could handle for $50/pp . It's January and they have the winter buffet special for $45 instead of $50. Our favorites were the snow crab legs, fried oysters, crayfish, and sirloin steaks. It's nice inside with their nautical theme, but the Captain George's in Myrtle Beach looked much grander inside. read more

We had a party of 12 people for the buffet, Ambiance as always absolutely amazing and food was off the chain delicious. The experience was fantastic until we got ready to pay our bill, server came to bring the bill that was $116.00 we did not notice the gratuity had been added so we gave her $16.00 in case also. When she brought the receipt back to the table I noticed the gratuity had already been added, I requested the money and she was little hesitant and then gave the cash back, if she had been honest and upfront we would have let her keep the extra money but it was the principle of it all. We got here around lunch time on July 4th and were seated right away as they had just opened. We got the seafood boil, which came out about 10 minutes after we ordered it, and it was wonderful. The service was pretty good. As more people came in our server was a little less attentive, but still did a decent job. The inside of the restaurant has a bar/chill atmosphere and would be comfortable in tshirts or dressed up. The food was great. I would absolutely come back again. read more

Their AYCE seafood buffet including the snow crab legs makes it well worth the $49.99. They also have several other options some of my favorites being the steamed shrimp, fried shrimp, oysters Rockefeller, sea leg salad and several different dessert options. I sat at the bar and received excellent service. The buffet is kept very clean and well stocked even later in the evening. So my first time in the Virginia Beach area and was hearing so may good things about Captain George's. The facility is nice and spacious and there is plenty if parking. We chose to eat in the sports bar. They have specialty drink, craft beer and wine. There are plenty of items at the buffet. More than enough to choose from. The most popular item was the crab legs which people there were going over board with. For $49.99 per person, endless crab legs is a bargain. The service is fantastic. But the food was just meh for the most part. There are NO RAW SEAFOOD items. Which was really, really disappointing. All of the seafood I had was overcooked. The highlight for me was the oysters Rockefeller, which was on point. Otherwise, the food was just meh. If you like your seafood overcooked or want endless crab legs, this place is a steal. If you are looking for quality over quantity, I don't recommend this place. Finally, so weird management reached out from Captain George's to say if I had an issue to point it out to management, but I had no issue. The service was great, there were no raw seafood options which was disappointing and the seafood was over cooked. Three stars says no issues, just underwhelming seafood. read more

The place was spacious and clean, very nice and friendly staff and plenty of food choices to pick from. We mainly stuck to the seafood, which was fresh and tasty. I visit your restaurant at least twice a month. On my most recent visit, service was extremely slow. The food had a very sour taste and very strong odor as though it sat outside overnight. Furthermore, this past Super Bowl Sunday you changed ALL the TV stations on ALL your TV's showing the Super Bowl Halftime Show to the TV stations that was broadcasting an alternative Halftime show from the Turning Point Organization. The Turning Point Organization is a conservative political organization that promotes radical conservative views and white supremacy in the name of Christianity. Forcing your patrons to view the alternative halftime show without giving your patrons the option to watch either show is wrong. You are forcing your political view on all the patrons whether they shared your views or not. I for one do not. It is a bad business move on your behalf to promote this program to all of your patrons promoting your political views. Your personal political views should be just that, personal. It has no place in the general public of business. Save it for your personal campaign purposes. With that said I have the option of spending my resources supporting businesses. Now that I have learned about your political views I do not care to continue supporting your business. I will exercise my option of doing business with other like restaurants and discontinue my support of yours. I will also let my friends know about my stand on this matter and let them make their own call about continuing supporting your business or not. read more

The only complaint I had was that my frozen drink wasn't really a drink. Not enough RUM. That's it. Everything else was on point! Have you ever been to a restaurant, buffet restaurant where everything was perfect? Well this gem does just that in my opinion. Okay so we were there when the doors opened at 2pm promptly. Everything was seasoned to perfection! Everything...from the green beans to the steamed crab legs. The Oysters Rockefeller, fried oysters, stuffed mushrooms... everything seasoned. The weekend buffet @ $49.99 is a steal and well worth every penny for the fresh seafood options alone. The dessert bar? Forget about it! The peach cobbler was made by a Grandmother obviously!
