We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were tasty, but the standout was the grilled crab cake on my Surf & Turf Platter. It was packed with large chunks of crab instead of mostly filler--exactly what a crab cake should be. Service was friendly, and when half the restaurant is filled with locals, you know you've found a good place. The only reason I couldn't give 5 stars was the sausage links. They were dry, had a flaky texture on the outside, and an odd flavor, which was surprising since our waitress highly recommended them. Came here with my family on a Saturday afternoon and really appreciated the ample outdoor seating on such a beautiful day. Service was friendly, welcoming, and impressively fast from start to finish. The water was also crisp and refreshing, and I appreciated that they were generous with the lemon slices. The menu leans heavily toward fried foods, but I was glad to see several grilled seafood options available as well. The grilled flounder and the grilled shrimp and scallops were the standout dishes for me. Super fresh and well prepared as they were all super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The scallops in particular were incredibly tender, fresh tasting, and completely free of any sandy texture. The seafood honestly did not need help from any sauces because the flavor and texture stood well on their own. That is why I found the condiment situation a little puzzling. Each plate came with a large serving of tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, and lemon butter sauce, while the grilled tuna additionally came with a pink sauce that reminded me of sriracha mayo, Thousand Island dressing, or yum yum sauce. I personally only used a little of the lemon butter on my broccoli but nothing else. We took the rest home so not to waste it but largely still found them unnecessarily. While the seafood should have been the star of the show, the condiments ended up being a much larger serving size than the seafood was. Rather than automatically serving several large cups of sauce, it might make more sense to simply ask guests which sauces they would like to have. There were six shrimp, though they were fairly small, and only two scallops. Given how exceptional the scallops were, I would have happily traded some of the extra sauces for a few more of them. The portions for the grilled tuna and burger however appeared much larger than the grilled shrimp and scallops entrée or grilled flounder. The sides however were much more generous. The broccoli was perfectly steamed and paired nicely with the lemon butter sauce. The hush puppies came automatically with every meal. While I would personally prefer having a healthier alternative available, my brother enjoyed them and described them as crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with a genuine corn flavor and just the right amount of salt. Overall, these were very enjoyable meals; the service was excellent, the outdoor seating was pleasant, the seafood was fresh and skillfully prepared, and the sides were generous. One thing to keep in mind is that if you order the grilled flounder or shrimp and scallops as a lunch meal it may not be enough food to keep you full. read more

Loved this place, starting with the rum cocktails served in old school plastic cups. Our server was great and let us try the Hatteras clam chowder, which was broth based and full of clams and bacon. Delicious. The she-crab chowder was thick and heavy and no match for the Hatteras. But our server also suggested the steamed seafood platter and we split it. I'm glad we did. It was filled with steamed shrimp doused in butter and old bay, Alaskan crab legs, local Oysters and clams. The restaurant does get pretty crowded in the summer, and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, but they keep things moving, and there is a big seating area in the back room as well. I'm glad we sat in the front - and the outside seat seating is cool too. A great experience. Try the signature rum drink! read more

The clams were like frozen at home and only 3 scallops. It was average at best. We asked for water which only arrived after our plates arrived and only because we had to wave down our server. Visited Margie and Ray's while vacationing in Sandbridge based on the Yelp reviews. Our party of 5 got there around 6:45 and were given a wait time of 60 minutes. It was a beautiful night so we were happy to sit on the front deck with drinks from the bar while we waited. The waitlist was online so we probably could have left the premises if we wanted to. The list went fast and we were seated within 40 minutes. The tables have your traditional crab house look with white paper as tablecloths and a roll of paper towels on the table. (That's how you know it's going to be good!) Our server was Mel and she was quick to get us drinks and take our order. We ordered mainly steamed seafood and it came out quickly and hot. Everything was cooked perfectly. I'm picky about my crab legs and they were easy to crack and deshell. We were full but took a slice of coconut cream and bananas cream pies to go. Our server Belle, was very patient with us as we were waiting for the rest of our party. We had an appetizer of calamari probably some of the best I've ever had in this area very lightly fried very lightly battered and had a remoulade spicy sauce to go with it great. I normally get the sampler platter and a side of coleslaw I talked to Bell and she said what do you like best on the sampler platter I said the shrimp she suggested that I get the shrimp fried shrimp platter and that way I get two sides included for just $2 more than the sampler platter that doesn't have any sides it was great lots and lots of shrimp the fries were nice and crispy for a while. My wife and one of other people at our table got the steamed platter with fish and scallops and I think it was shrimp to go with it oh no fish it was scallops crab cake and fish she said the crab cake was the best that she's ever had we took home a pint of the she-crab soup as that's one of her favorites. The other person sitting at our table got the stuffed shrimp it was six or eight very large butterfly shrimp stuffed with the same filling that they make their crab cakes out of it wasn't wasn't full of filling it was mostly crab and she got a Ramekin of warm butter to pour over it and she all she asked for a Ramekin of that spicy rummelage sauce we had with the calamari they took home a quart of the she-crab soup which is one of Margie and Ray's famous. Came here for breakfast or brunch this Morning. We had a party of 11. I didn't really care for my Bloody Mary. Not enough tomato juice. The food all looked good. I ordered the lump crab Benedict. Not a whole lot of crab. Egg was cooked too much for my liking. I would have liked the egg yolk runny. What stole the show was the grilled cheese on tomato. I had asked for raw tomatoes but the waitress asked if I wanted grilled cheese on it. I didn't know what to expect but it was melted crusty cheese on top of raw tomatoes. I devoured them. Down in Virginia Beach on vacation and passed this restaurant driving to the Airbnb. This place is a hidden gem. The portions were large and the dishes were cooked to perfection. I was disappointed that they did not have Maryland Crabs but I made die with snow crab.
