This was a first visit for me, I came to celebrate Mother's Day and will return. Our sever was so personable and hilarious. My boil was seasoned perfectly and there was enough for leftovers. However, the shaking wings! Get those! They're not pictured because I ate them all and even got an order to go and get didn't last long either. They're fried and sauced so a nice flavorful crunch. The atmosphere is casual and perfect for groups, families, and split dining!

Service -5 really liked the service. Nice guy. Fast and efficient and didn't bother too much! Ambiance - nice TVs and music level. My issue was the food. The seafood was overcooked and rubbery. Large shrimp and mussels though but overcooked. And I didn't feel like the sauce was very flavored. The best was the sausage. Shrimp was hard to peel. It did come to the table REALLY hot which was nice. Good for kids. Reasonable price.

I hadn't been to shaking crab in like 2 years or really since the pandemic. Whelp what better way to get reacquainted then to do a quick Sunday date night with my hubby. I got the crablegs and shrimp without heads combo, added sausages and you get a corn on cob and potatoe. Your choice of seasonings mild, spicy and many more but I got cajun hot. When I say this meal was a missile it truly was. I got full quick so it became a nice meal for another night after a quick oven reheat. I guess we choose the right time to go because they weren't busy upon arrival but we tend to be a crowd any way and by the time we were leaving it was picking up in clientele around 530ish that evening. The service was immaculate, no females waitresses this particular Sunday, but the fellas were holding it down. No body around us had a long wait at all for their food and ours came out rather quickly as well. Sorry you'll have to enjoy my lovely face since this was the only pic I remembered after I got my food....just know I loved it. Oh and since we're all true Yelp heads I did a check-in and got 10% off the meal, don't say I didn't put you on. Stop on in if you have a hankering for a great seafood boil. Mmm mmm GOOD

I called in an order for lemon pepper wings, fries, and cajun shrimp rice. The wings were tasty. They had breading on them. The ranch they have is pretty good also, it tasted good with the wings. The fries were crispy and hot. I do wish the rice had more shrimp and maybe onions or something. It's literally just shrimp and plain looking rice. I've had it in the past and it was more flavorful, but it was still ok. The garlic butter goes well with it. I enjoyed my meal for the most part. They have seafood boils, seafood baskets with fish, oysters, soft shell crabs, and more. The prices are reasonable. The staff was friendly and it wasn't a long wait. There was plenty of seating inside. It's dimly lit and not to bright in there, so I appreciate that. I'd return. I'd like to try their oysters next time. Check them out!!!

Went for my birthday on Dec 24th. Was the best time. Food was AMAZING. Service was Excellent

How can you not get Shaking Crab while in Norfolk? This is hands down the best Cajun crab boil you can get here. We got 2 A combos, clams, and sausages. Snow crab legs were fresh and shells were packed with meat. You can tell it's good quality because you can break the leg in half and pulling the meat without the shell bending! Sauce is good as usual - I'd say less salt! It was definitely on the salty side. Also, the clam meats were a bit shriveled, I remember it being fat and juicy in the past. Service was great, very nice and attentive staff, which isn't too common these days! I'll definitely come back as long as they maintain quality here. Recommend!

Came here on Labor Day weekend to try their seafood boil. It was a late lunch and there weren't too many people. We were seated right away. The booth we sat in was comfortable, however there were so many drawings everywhere it looked so messy. That's the style they are going for I guess. We ordered two combo A's for four people and added on half pound of sausage and clams. The snow crab legs were really good and paired well with their signature shaky sauce. Shrimp was very good and paired well with everything. There was a Yelp check in offer for 10% off the check. The price was so good here. It was like pre pandemic price on top of it being cheaper than Northern Virginia seafood boil which would easily be twice the cost of here. The service was pretty good.

Ask the Community - Shaking Crab

How can I make a reservation? Planning a BDay dinner with some friends and I don't want to take the chance of not having available space or having to wait...

Just call in ahead of time to make a reservation, like do it today. They regularly have large parties there, regularly.

Are they still doing to go orders? I've called several times and no one picks up

They don't open until 3 pm. They still have pickup (to go) orders.

Hello everyone! I know everything is crazy right now but I want to eat there crab. Are they be able to do pick up? Is anybody know here? I try calling their number it's always busy…

I went around the beginning of this week and they were doing carry out, it took me about 20 minutes of calling off and on to finally get through though.

Are the guest limited at this time due to the coronavirus?

I have not heard anything about the guest being limited due to the coronavirus. I think it's business as usual hoping that everyone is being safe and taking the appropriate precautions

Are they open today May 12, 2019 for Mother's Day?

    yes

Can I order half pound instead of one?

    Yes, just ask the server.

    Do they cater?

    Never been there

What are the prices? The menu online doesn't show them.

There should be pictures of the menu on yelp but it's anywhere as high as $40ish and under. The most expensive one is if you purchase a king crab combo.

How much do the bags cost?

I think the price varies depending on what you get. We got the peeled shrimp and crab legs that came with corn and potatoes, we added sausage, got two beverages and some food for my daughter and paid less that 50$

Do they have a bar area that single customers can sit at?

No, they only have tables and booths but their staff is extremely friendly so I'm sure they wouldn't mind you dining alone. The food is wonderful so don't miss out just because you don't want to dine alone!!! It's the best seafood I've had.

    Do u take reservations?

    No reservations

Do they have a kids menu?

Hi Kayla, I don't recall seeing one. It's also not on the menu on their website: http://shakingcrabva.com/menu.php

    Do you serve alcohol?

Yes. Beer (domestic and imported) and wines

How are the craw dads though?

I'm sorry can't help with that, I didn't try those.

They have an indoor dining area that is more like intimate and has a cozy feel. They have an outside area that you can eat at and have a great view of the waterfront. And of course they have the "Porch" area which gives that outdoor vibe but you're still inside of a fenced in area. My friend and I ate in the dining room area since it wasn't a wait. We ordered drinks, two crushes which were amazing and refreshing. It definitely gave island vibes. We started off with the crab dip which was incredible and flavorful. The bread with the dip was A1. I could eat the bread alone. Now for the actual dishes. She ordered the crab cake sandwich, she really enjoyed it. Not much filler at all. I ordered a variety. So I had the Cali Virginia Roll which was amazing!! I wish I would have ordered two orders. It was just more on the pricey side. I also had the fried shrimp which were HUGE. I didn't even finish it all. I cannot wait to come back and try everything again.

All of a sudden a table of 6 sat next to us for her to attend and we got our plates removed while my husband was still pulling the food off his plate. Dishes weren't fully clean- I'm being told by my husband and son- and apparently a white hair and residual of soy sauce or something so dishwasher step up your game. I dunno man- 6 years ago we came and hated the service and the food was bland. We came today for our anniversary dinner with an attempt for redemption - service continued to suck, bartender was a bad @$$- food was better than last time. Oysters were clean- so maybe next time we will just sit in the bar. My kid said for the gen A - "overall bunions service; good food- vibe chill but What's the deal with all these flies inside !!!??? Bunions. I'm gunna rate this place a 6/7 ‍out of 10 but overall mid- def bunion service

I had high expectations, and somehow they still exceeded them. They're the highest rated seafood restaurant in the Virginia Beach area on Yelp, and for good reason. There was even a small wait on a Wednesday night, which honestly told me everything I needed to know before we even sat down. Our server, Jenny, was absolutely wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and always seemed to show up right when we needed something. The head chef also stopped by our table and was incredibly kind and genuinely invested in making sure everyone was enjoying their meal. That level of hospitality really made the experience feel special. The meal started with a complimentary amuse-bouche of roasted golden beets, goat cheese, candied walnuts, and balsamic. It was a classy little bite that got the evening off to a great start. Then came the sweet potato biscuits with apricot jam...listen, I could've eaten an entire basket of those and been perfectly happy. For my entrée, I ordered the crab cakes with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. These are the kind of crab cakes people are looking for. They were packed with lump crab, full of flavor, and had virtually no filler. Every bite was delicious. From start to finish, everything was on point. Great food, genuine hospitality, and a team that clearly cares about what they're serving. It took me over a decade to make it back, but I can promise it won't be another ten years before my next visit. Highly recommend.

My wife and I took advantage of Norfolk's Restaurant Week to enjoy a romantic evening, coupled with great service from a very attentive waiter. $45 each for a 3-course meal in a intimate cozy dark setting with great jazz music in the background. 1st course, she had the marvelous She Crab Bisque, especially the hint of sherry. Perfect. I enjoyed the four Fried Oysters, Fried flawlessly without the bivalves becoming rubbery. 2nd course, my wife enjoyed the Peri-Peri Chicken Penne. The breast of chicken was moist throughout, not dry. The penne pasta with the Romesco Cream Sauce was very creamy and delicious says my better half. I tried the Fried Catfish. A bed of creamy Grits; then some Braised Collards stewed perfectly with a surprise - pieces of Ham Hock meat imbedded - on top of the Grits; then on the very top a perfectly fried huge piece of Catfish filet with Key Lime Remoulade sauce on the side. A pretty presentation. If you like Catfish, this is a wonderful entrée. It still amazes me how the food I grew up on as a son of the South - except for the remoulade - is now haute cuisine. I also ordered for dinner a Perfect Manhattan made with Maker's Mark. The bartender was spot-on, a great cocktail. My wife enjoyed a glass of crisp dry California Pinot Grigio with her meal. Our 3rd and final course was the creamy death-by-chocolate chocolate mousse for me, while she enjoyed the wild berry sorbet that was palate cleansing and delicious. By the way, the restaurant also has a Speakeasy type bar area downstairs. Our romantic evening went perfectly. Norfolk Seafood Company is one of my favorite places to dine in Norfolk.

Went here Sunday after church around 12:30 pm. No wait time and the restaurant was not busy at all…read more I came here hoping my experience would be better than the last, but that was not the case at all. I ordered from their apparent "new" brunch menu and was excited because the options all sounded delicious. My excitement quickly went away from the wait time for our food, which was ridiculous (0/10) especially when the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There was also inconsistency among the presentation of food on each plate brought to the table. I first asked for a mock tail, the Burner (8/10) it was refreshing and I wanted to enjoy it, but the drinks were brought out so quick and our food took 35-40 minutes... For food, I asked for their Loaded brioche French toast (3/10), the menu stated "sweet cream filling" as if the French toast would be stuffed with the cream inside; however, what I was given was thick slices of dry bread, overly smothered in strawberries, with the tiniest amount of cream thrown on top! No "filling" in the bread, at all. Bacon (8/10), Grits (9/10), Scrambled Eggs with cheese (4/10) very bland, and Potatoes (2/10) basic, bland, and unseasoned. Additionally, I found out after an order needed to be redone at my table, that my potatoes were actually supposed to come with seasoning and peppers. My soror who came to brunch with me, had to give her food back after the long wait since her order was not correct at all. What followed, was the manager coming to our table, with what seemed like a bit of an attitude, trying to find out how exactly the order was wrong. While explaining that the French toast didn't match the description of the menu, a simple conversation about the menu wording and food outcome/presentation turned into a partial over explaining and back and forth, with the staff almost refusing to accept that what was given to us simply didn't match the menu description. After having the waitress and manager come to the table multiple times and after another long wait for food, my Sorors food arrived with an amazing presentation (I should've taken a picture of it). Definitely not how my food, my sisters food, or my sorors original plate of food looked at all. Inconsistency is a major issue here as well as communication. There's no reason going back and forth, doing any over explanation, or having to send your food back to be remade should THEN lead to you receiving well prepared/presented food here in this restaurant. The manager explained that the slow service and food presentation was because everyone in the kitchen was being "trained" and the brunch menu was still "new." To me, this didn't make sense when this restaurant is not new; the explanation/excuse used just didn't add up. Think I've given enough chances to this restaurant at this point. I've been here some other times and didn't do reviews for those experiences, because they weren't great, but they also weren't terrible, but this recent experience has sealed the deal for me on not coming back; very unfortunate. The waitress mentioned she would fix our bills to accommodate for the experience we had and while paying, I noticed that the only thing really removed from each bill was basically the tax total. About $31 spent on my order. My overall rate of experience : 4/10
