We are visiting and decided to try this on our first night here. We made a reservation, but realized when we got here that we probably didn't need to make one as the restaurant was fairly empty. We were greeted quickly and given a table immediately, which was nice. Service was friendly and prompt and we never had to ask for anything while we were there. Food was good, but some things were better than others. Portions were humongous, and a real value for the money, especially when we first thought the prices were a bit high. We started with the calamari and the vegetable spring rolls. The calamari came with tartar sauce and looked like onion rings. They were OK, but I've had better elsewhere. The spring rolls were crispy, but a little soggy with oil. They tasted great though. The sushi rolls were large, even laughable when my daughter got two of them. My son got the red Thai curry, and it's really enough for two meals, easily. My pad also was twice the size of what I usually get at a restaurant and it actually tasted quite good. We probably won't be back because we are on vacation, but if we lived in the area, I would certainly come back for the food, the service, and the portion sizes. read more

Worst and most over priced for the quality of sushi in town. Easily. The fish is frozen vacuum sealed fish that you can buy from any Asian grocery and often is served past its prime here with old avocados - for me last night it was tuna sashimi that SMELLED. Made the mistake of taking a bite and had to hunt down a roll up to spit it out. There's always at least one type of fish that's old on a sushi/sashimi platter from here. Then a fish bone in another piece of escolar. Unseasoned old rice (which was listed on their health code violations). No flavor on these rolls besides the store bought sauce which was sparse. Service was not great as the server had a ton of tables and seemed overwhelmed however no one helped or even brought us roll ups when we got our food. Bugs flying around and landing on our sushi, just as a finale. I've operated multiple sushi restaurants and this place is just gross. And don't look at the health inspections - the only one posted has 10 violations... weird that the others are gone. Now, the day after I have a stomach ache, I guess I shouldn't be shocked but I feel terrible for bringing guests to this establishment. read more

I think the business could do a few modifications to amplify what foundation has already been started. The ambience music at the very least was just bland elevator music. The decor all tried to match into a modern coastal vibe but it was a bit lackluster. The menus were waterlogged, very text heavy and would benefit from switched to a QR code. Silverware, napkins and the plates and bowls were all mediocre but could be spiced up a bit for some originality and uniqueness. Great service as always! We love coming here, especially with the fun interior design. We ordered the Bay Treasure and were able to ask for it not to be deep fried. Well, I ordered at 7:45 so unless she had a crystal ball, there's no way it was ready over an hour. Also if you order online to this restaurant, your ordering through GrubHub. We stopped in the Captain Hook's on a whim. My husband was triggered by the cost of their sushi so he ended up ordering pho. He is a self-proclaimed pho connoisseur and rated his dish a 6 out 10. I tasted it and agreed that the broth seemed underdeveloped or watered down. It had a very mild and somewhat dirty dishwater taste to it. It was jam-packed with noodles, and the beef was plentiful. I ordered a lunch special that came with a spicy tuna roll and six pieces of sushi. I was happy with the freshness and the taste. Mine also came with soup, so I thought It was a great deal for $18. We had our 2-year-old grandson with us and opted for classic chicken strips. He only got to eat one of them because the others were freezer burned and turned solid in the fryer. It was cute spot and the food was pretty good. The prices were a bit ridiculous and did not match the online rating of 10-20 per person, we spent over $300 for 6 people. We sampled different parts of the menu mixing some of the Thai options and fresh sushi options. The menu is large enough that you can find something to please almost everyone. Our group had (and liked) their Tom kha soup, tofu red curry, ginger green salad, chicken satay with peanut sauce, sushi, seafood pho, chicken with cashews, a cucumber roll with cream cheese... and a couple tried their Thai beers. Been here several times before and it was great! Went in for a quick lunch 4/17 - service was good, food was good, environment and check out was subpar to say the LEAST. I asked for wasabi and ginger ToGo for a $21 sushi roll I had 1 bite of. The sushi chef took my Togo container and sent it to back to me split into two separate containers that looked as if someone had shaken them up before putting them into the ToGo bag - bizarre. The young man that bagged my Togo - was eating staff lunch along with my server and another staff member - never washed his hands - additionally greeted guests at the door with a mouth full of food. My server apologized and had the roll re-made. When I got home I noticed it wasn't what I had originally ordered - an all tuna "American Dream" - instead salmon all through it. For a $63 lunch (including tip) Eating in the front of the house at peak lunch hour, poor hand hygiene, a pesky fly and several gnats around the sushi case, lack of focus with less than 10 patrons in the dining room is UNACCEPTABLE. When I called to address the issue the young man who answered told me there was no manager available, and to call back before 4 or after 4:30, I called around 5 - again bizarre. I asked to speak to whoever was "in charge" MOD, BOH/FOH leader - he could offer no one. Now it's starting to make sense! I called back a second time and spoke with Tay - perhaps the only professional in the building. She did what she could to help rectify the situation. All this to say - I wouldn't recommend this establishment. Dining out is a privilege in this economy, dietary restrictions exist, not to mention food cost and waste directly impacts the consumer and the business owner. Management (or lack there of) show up! Parking is tight as there with other businesses in an odd shaped strip. We ordered the $33.00 Tuna plate. Captain Hook's serves Sushi, Pho and Thai in a nicely decorated restaurant just off Santa Barbara. Those are some of our favorite foods, so we were excited to visit last weekend. Our server was very friendly and attentive. She went out of her way to give us a rundown of the menu and insight into their rewards program. Our drinks never went dry, as she whisked them away for refills regularly. The menu offers a nice selection of specialty rolls and across the board they seem to contain many combinations with a large number of ingredients utilized per roll. At other restaurants I've ordered rolls that became quite large and were challenging to eat because of the number of ingredients, so I tend to pay attention to that. I was really impressed that the sushi chef accounted for that and sliced the rolls thinner. The rolls were still a larger diameter but were easy to eat because of the portion size. I ordered and shared the American Dream and Dancing Eel rolls. Each were made with fresh ingredients and were good but did not standout as special for my palate. My husband ordered the Beef with Garlic Sauce. He said it was good and he had no complaints but it didn't stand out above other similar dishes he has tried. Final Analysis: At the moment I would offer a rating of 3.5 Stars. The environment is nice and the service is friendly and efficient. The food was good but we haven't yet discovered a dish we would consider a favorite. read more
