Hard, oily French fries good in old grease and undercooked shrimp batter falling off. overcooked hush puppies. French fries are not edible.

I specifically ask not to fry my food hard. Shrimps: undercooked batter mushy and not attached to shrimp Fish: okay but smaller than the original owners French fries; HORRIBLE. They were hard... full of old grease and- could not eat them Hush puppies: hard/over cooked like the fries Cole slaw: not a full container. New owners dnt know how to prepare food for the public. This is bad. I should have knew better once I walked in but I traveled far to this place. Very disappointed.

Short review Terrible fries. Questionable atmosphere including a an open metal trash can that looks like it's from a New York alley plus no bathrooms. Out of Fried Chicken which is a substantial part of their menu Very nice wait staff, the fish was very well done. See below for more details My daughter, grandson, and I decided to stop in. When you open the door to Captain K's you're greeted with a straight line counter on your left that's mainly full of microwaves, giant jars of banana peppers, croutons, and other things that they're actively cooking with. On the right you've got a set of six bench tables. There's lots of paintings on the walls and a bright ocean color scheme. The air is full of oil as there's no separation between the fryers and the seating area. They also have multiple chalkboards on the walls where they've written a la carte items, combo items, and other things that they don't have on their actual menu. So if you're going to order make sure to look beyond the menu to at least three chalkboards scattered through the restaurant. There were no kids meals. My daughter and I decided on Fried Chicken but at 1:00 on a Sunday they were out. no plans on making more. This was disappointing because it was the only non fish item other than shrimp. The side items offered were four types of potatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw and potato salad. My daughter decided to order two pieces of Whiting as fish and chips. I ended up being uninspired by the menu and decided not to get anything. There are no bathrooms. Wait staff were very friendly. They connected with us and seemed to be nice people. Some pretty good singing along with the radio Food took about 15 mins to cook, not too long to wait. The fries were terrible. Although hot, they were soft and under cooked - that mealy feeling of potato that wasnt internally cooked enough to have some fluff. It didn't help that the fries made my grandson cry. He looked so tricked when we told him it was a fry and handed it to him. he held it in his hand, cried, and threw it. That sort of encapsulates our overall feeling of the fries The whiting was very good. Nice thick sandwich. The lettuce was fresh, crisp, and a generous portion. Easily the best part of going here which is important since it was the main entree.

This place was pretty good I definitely can't complain considering the pricing and portions

I wasn't sure exactly what Captain K was serving up prior to me venturing over there, so I decided to put some pics on Yelp to update it, and post a review. It is 'hidden' right at the corner of Princess Anne and Lynnhaven, in the Hardees/Goodwill shopping center. Small 'dine in' area, but alot of orders go as take-out. Simply put, Captain K's is a quick-prep seafood place. At lunchtime, they have specials that are in the range of $5.00, (Fried Shrimp + french fries) (Fish and Fries) (Chicken, fish and fries), etc. This is the place you go to get seafood quick and cheap, when you don't have the time or the money to eat at a sit down place like Georges or Red Lobster. I ordered up a "Fish, Shrimp and Fries" combo. The Shrimp are good sized shrimp! Very good. The fish was pretty thin, that I didn't care for as much. The fries are just the frozen krinkle fries. The Hush-puppies are okay, but not spectacular. What I forgot to order and try out was the "Catfish". I am from the south, so that is a must for me to try. There are some days I want to take my wife out for a sit-down meal, and there are other days when I want some low priced shrimp in ten minutes! On days like that when I am in a rush, I will stop back in at Captain K's for more of those Deep Fried tasty shrimp.

They've got both booths and regular tables, which is nice depending on what kind of seating you like. Nothing fancy about the ambiance a typical buffet restaurant decor. The cold seafood section looked really full and well stocked, even though I didn't personally try any of it. I ended up getting a hibachi plate with noodles, shrimp, broccoli, mushrooms, and a mix of veggies. They actually had a pretty good selection for the hibachi grill, which I liked. As for the buffet overall, it honestly didn't quite live up to the social media hype for me. There were definitely tons of options and a lot of variety, but I'm more of a quality over quantity person. I also didn't try any of buffet items. Now my daughter had the complete opposite experience. She loved it! She was really into the sushi selection and tried several buffet items. She already said she'd definitely want to come back. A couple things to know before you go: they charge a surcharge if you pay with a card, and they also charge for food waste, so don't overload your plate as you may be charged for food waste. Overall, would I rush back? Probably not. But if I'm nearby and in the mood for a decent Chinese buffet with lots of choices, I'd come back again.

My most recent visit here was on January 23, 2026. I've seen this place several times as I have gone with my mom to Hobby Lobby. It caught my attention again to try this place when they were listed as a part of the 2026 Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. This is what ultimately got me to get in and try them out. The outside of the place is similar to other places next to the business, but they are very easy to spot. On each of my visits here, I didn't encounter any issues with parking and such, so there seems to be ample parking available. When my mom and I first came in, we were immediately greeted and were able to get a table immediately. I wasn't sure what it would be at first since I saw stuff about reservations. This first visit was on January 21, 2026. Once we were seated, our server came to the table to ask us what we wanted to drink. I did the water with lemon, and my mom went for a Coke, though the Coke never came to the table during this first visit. In the end, that was no big deal. Since we were here specifically for the restaurant week, we stuck to that menu that evening. For the appetizer, I went with the Picanha Empanadas. For the main entree, I went with the 8 oz Filet Mignon with Green Beans and Queso De Mano as my two sides. For the dessert, I sure did go for the Rum Crème Brulée. My mom ended up doing the same thing on this first visit. A few minutes after ordering, the Empanadas came to the table. This came with an olive mayo chimichurri for dipping. The empanadas and the chimichurri complemented each other very well. The taste was amazing too. A few minutes before the entrees would come out, our server came over and put some hot sauce and chimichurri sauce at the table to use. When the entrees came out, they looked really good, and they were hot, so it took a few moments to start. I started with the green beans, and they had such a great flavor to them. By the time I finished that, it was time to indulge in the Filet Mignon. I had ordered it on medium, and it was cooked perfectly. This is not something I have often, but this was awesome. The flavor paired with the chimichurri sauce made it an enjoyable entree. I finished off the main course with the Queso De Mano cheese. This was a very flavorful cheese. The last course was the Rum Crème Brulée. It was quite the surprise when the server came with a blowtorch to go over the top of the dessert. This dessert was the ultimate indulgence for me as I don't normally do these types of foods. The experience was so good that we decided to come back a few days later, on January 23, 2026. I would end up getting the same set of items since it was still restaurant week, but we also ordered the Guacamole appetizer since we were there during happy hour. The chips and guacamole were amazingly good. You can tell it was made fresh. My mom got the Picanha Burger this time. I can say she really liked the burger. Overall, these were two excellent experiences during the restaurant week. The food and service were great with no major issues. One thing I want to note is that they do charge a 3.5% fee if you use a card to pay instead of cash. If you're looking for a unique type of steakhouse, this place is absolutely worth checking out.

Both the host and our server were very friendly. The restaurant itself is nice - it has a dark, masculine decor vibe. While I loved the types of chairs they use, I will say their tables for two are very small. They had this little side table type of thing and that was where I had to put my purse and some of the extra dishes to have room. We had the Wyagu Ribeye and the Picahna steak. Both were very good and cooked to perfection. I had the risotto which I didn't feel was cooked right; it had a gummy texture. The Cesar salad was one of the best I've had. I am not sure if their dressing is house made but it was very good and the addition of prosciutto was a nice touch! I also had a Paloma that was very fresh! Now this is supposed to be a steak house and cantina. The decor did give traditional cantina vibes, but the menu did not offer many traditional cantina type foods. If you are looking for cantina style dishes, you may find yourself disappointed. We did do the guacamole though, and it was just OK I'd say. Would I come back? For the steak and salad yes. Otherwise it was a little underwhelming to the price!

Some are vultures with crab legs. It is very loud inside and the tables are tight within each other. Some smelled of marijuana as well. The food is ok. The crab legs hit the spot for me. There is an extensive dessert section, two bays. The brisket with gravy was flavorful. The tips of the asparagus were not trimmed, but once we took care of that, it was petty good. Overall it was fine and did the trick, fed us. A good place to get a seafood fix. But, not the place for a special quiet meal.

To make matters worse, instead of trying to resolve the issue like a legitimate business, they wanted to argue and tell me deal with whoever I ordered it through. Customers should not have to pay for a business's failure to communicate accurate operating hours. The lack of accountability, customer service, and basic professionalism here is unbelievable.
