She was honest about the menu and kept our drinks refilled. They had several seafood options and other menu items as well. Crab legs, shrimp, mozzarella sticks, fries, wings, and etc. I got wings, shrimp, and fries and everything was seasoned well, hot, and fresh. I'd get the same thing again. You can also ask for extra seasoning on the side and they have cocktail and tartar sauce which was good. Came in on a Saturday evening and was told the wait would be about 25-30 minutes, which was fine. What was confusing, though, was that there were plenty of empty tables while we waited. We were finally seated around 5:40, but then sat for another 10-15 minutes with no service at all. Eventually I had to get up and ask someone when our table would be helped. Our server finally came over and took our full order at once (drinks, appetizers, and meals). He was friendly, but honestly it felt like we were the forgotten table. We've been here on multiple occasions, my lady and I normally get a boil bag and our 15 year old always gets a shrimp basket. On this particular order she didn't even get half the amount of fries she normally gets. My family and I decided to try this place out, because my coworker always talked about this place. We were debating on our usual spot, but gave the twisted crab a try. The people behind us and the people in front of us, were also complaining about slow service and I saw no one checking in on them. There was another person that got sat at the end of the table, who looked like she got the royal treatment. While we sat down that felt like almost an hour now and no food, her appetizers came out the same time our food did maybe 5mins after she sat. Hello!? Appetizers are supposed to come out BEFORE the main dish. But that person got her appetizers out in a timely manner and was catered to, always had drink refills and a new beer on standby meanwhile I had to wait until my water melted to get another sip of water. When our food arrived, it was cold... as a server PLEASE check the temp of the food upon serving. She wanted to say "Oh, they just told me it's ready" uhh?! That's BS so I didn't need her to lie in my face, because I'm pretty sure it's been ready but you were too busy catering to your bestie or whoever and making her 4 or 5 rounds of drinks. I told her the food was cold and told her to bring it back, who tf likes cold fried food? No one. She wanted to redeem herself now saying stuff like "Oh do you need crab crackers?" And I spoke to my manager and he said he'll get it out ASAP. Then she comes back to our table, asking how our boil is and I told her we are not eating because why the f would I eat meanwhile my starving 4 year old is still waiting on her food!? Like common sense, so that made me more annoyed. Funny thing is, my husband already finished half of the crab before she brought out the crab crackers, my daughter ended up falling asleep, my other daughter didn't like her food so she barely touched it, our boil was overcooked, the shrimp was like rubber and the mussels were tiny and chewy, the manager never came to apologize, nothing was compensated, I don't even know who the manager is, It was just disappointing. Overall, we know not to come back to this place. We will stick to Pier 88 (as much as I wanted to gate keep), we always have had excellent service there from a party of over 15 or just by ourselves we always had 1000% service and nothing changed because we were a big party or a small party. The Twisted Crab is located in the Lynnhaven section of Virginia Beach. It is located at the end of a shopping center at the corner of Phoenix Dr. and N. Mall Dr. This place is fairly easy to see from either of those roads. Since it is part of shopping center, there is ample parking available here. You can get up to the entrance via step or a ramp, which is good for those that need it to get up to the place. My visit here was on October 24, 2020. The place looked really nice and clean when we came in. It was at a busier time, but everything was socially distanced well in here when it came to tables and such. There are signs about it, as well masks required as you come in. Hand sanitizer is also available. Although we dined in, there were others that came in for take out, so take out is also an option here as well. Once we came inside, we were immediately greeted and were seated. Within a few moments our server Kayla came to the table. Like most places these days, there is a QR code to look at the menu electronically. However, they will give you a single use menu to look at if you request it. She asked us for our drink orders and gave us time to look over the menu. She was really quick with getting the drinks to us as well. We were then ready to order, and both my mom and I went with the Shrimp Basket with Hushpuppies. After about 10 to 15 minutes, our food came to the table. This was not a big surprise overall since the place was busy, and all the servers were all over the place. Apparently they weren't set to sections that day. Anyways, the food came out nice and hot. The shrimp were great. They weren't over-breaded and they were hot. The cocktail sauce to go with it was good as well. For the hushpuppies, they were great and hot too. They were also nice and soft. I definitely like when they're softer too. Due to servers being all over the place, it took a little while to come back and get us the check. I had a coupon, which is what brought us in to begin with. We didn't order enough and were just shy of the amount to be able to use the coupon, but our server gave it to us anyways. Kudos to her on that. Overall, this was a good first experience here. The food and service were both great experiences for this visit. Prices are more than reasonable for what you get here. There are quite a few options on the menu and I definitely plan to come back and try something else on the menu then including some different sides. Where to start ... We visited here about about a year ago and had amazing service and the food was on point. However, the second visit to this establishment was a definite downgrade. Considering the lack of complexity to the salad I don't understand how we couldn't get another one, but I digress. When Emma mentioned that she didn't have enough we said to her it's ok just to remove it from the bill. She indeed did not remove it from the bill. The food was mid and not worth the price this time around. The next issue was paying the bill. Emma came by with a tablet to collect payment. I saw the cost of the bill was high and we asked for a print out, she said it wasn't possible, we asked to see the bill and she let us briefly glance at it, and the cherry on top was we asked her if the bill included the tip we were told the it didn't and it actually did. After collecting the payment, she then gave us a print out and that was when we asked for a manager. The manager came out with the server and some other person not even involved in the equation for I'm guessing emotional support. My wife explained the situation and the manager said she could refund it but she wouldn't do anything more than refund the salad and allow the piss poor service we received to be rewarded with a 38% tip. The manager was also rude and not professional. Our Sunday family dinner was a hit! We were promptly seated upon arrival. After ordering drinks we received breaded shrimp on the house. The shrimp tasted amazing, fresh, just perfect and lightly breaded. Our cajun boil included crab legs, mussels, shrimp and lobster. The ordered came with potatoes and corn on the cobb. My appetizer, were spicy honey wings, I like to sprinkle them with ole bay and lemon juice. I chose to eat the wings as I opened my bagged dinner to cool off. I donned my plastic crab bib and dug in to feast. We entertained ourselves about 20 minutes passed and everything arrives, again, by great APRIL, a one woman show!! Another round of libations for us as we. We spoke at our table about how she was totally doing everything! Tending bar and 4 tables which turned to 6 tables n a matter of minute. I have to mention the takeout line that was outbthe door when we arrived and felt that that was where most of the kitchen service was filling there orders. Clearly the Twisted crab I feel is not a 5 star restaurant, 1 star off for a combination of the extended wait and my 1 libation order should of been a Titos vodka with cranberry juice, this was clearly not Titos vodka, I willbsay they there no mention of the restaurant not having Titos however maybe she picked up the wrong bottle.
