I'm giving Captain's 5 stars mostly for their gluten free pizza crust. If you have Celiac's disease and worry about cross contamination, Captain's is your place to enjoy a good pizza safely. I have two siblings that are diagnosed Celiacs, one who is severely sensitive. If there's a gluten crumb in her meal, she'll know in about an hour and her next couple of days is pretty much ruined. Luckily for us, the gluten free pizza crust at Captains is the real deal. She ate the entire thing (it only comes in a small) without any health incident at all. I'm not generally a fan of Greek pizza BUT I really like theirs! Awesome steak subs and chicken subs. Our boys like their steak tips, and mozzerella sticks. Basically this is a sub shop run by people who actually care about making their customers happy. Highly recommended! read more

Good food. Good people own/run the place. Think Greek though. Gyros are excellent! Mozzarella sticks are best in town. They use Piantedosi bread! It's so good! All subs are great. As are calzones. Not a big fan of Greek style pizza myself so I'll skip rating that. Chicken parm subs, Steak subs, meatball subs ROCK. Spinach pie is awesome but they don't always have it. Oh, Bacon Cheeseburgers! I can't believe I read anything negative about this place on here. Moved up to this area in '04 and ventured to the Captain one night with my husband. I have to say I fell in love with their pizza with the first bite. I am a huge fan of their spinach and mushroom or spinach and artichoke pizza (their sausage pizza is good too!). Every time we have friends over for pizza we order from there and delivery is fast and they are nice. Our friends are all fans of this place too. Never got so many compliments on take out before. They are on Main St in North Reading next to Tedeschi's... I've tried a lot of things from there, cheese n steak subs, eggplant parm sub, onion rings, and fries..etc but their best food item is the pizza. Excellent! They cut the pizza in squares rather than triangles; which is great if you have children who are sharing the pizza. I highly recommend you try this place!! read more

I used to go here very often, once every 1-2 weeks. Thought the good was great every time and always got a super friendly staff on the phone. However, I had a very rude man answer my phone call and call me an annoying midget after telling him my order. After this disgusting experience I definitely won't be coming here again. Just ordered a Chicken Parm Calzone from Captain Pizza and I am incredibly surprised by how delicious it is! Cooked to perfection and with extra cheese on top made it exactly what my taste buds were crazing! Also not too much chicken, just enough! Definitely would recommend! read more

I have been eating at, having food delivered from, and taking out from Captain Pizza for over 20 years and it's always been fantastic. If you like Greek-style pizza, theirs is great and reasonably priced! They make the best meatball sub on planet Earth, and their steak & cheese sub is awesome too. The delivery is always fast and the driver is nice. They get a little crazy busy around lunchtime because they are popular, so be patient. It's worth it. Great food, good prices, local business with nice people. Doesn't get any better. read more

Captains is the same today as it was 25 years ago, and it's great! Good greasy greek pizza. The square cutting is their signature, and I actually like it (but wouldn't if other places did it, kinda like an endearing character flaw.) Captain's sausage topping is the best sausage I've ever had, and whenever we eat sausage pizza elsewhere, I'll always say, "The sausage is not as good as Captains!" I can't comment on subs or dinners, but the pizza is an all-time fave. read more

I'd rate the food/pizza as below average, the service is poor and the staff members are extremely rude. I once called for a delivery and the owner of the restaurant repeatedly yelled at me because he couldn't understand the address in plain English. My friends and neighbors have also communicated similar stories of rude behavior on behalf of the restaurant's staff. Lastly, they refuse to deliver anything that falls below a $10 minimum; in this economy imposing a delivery minimum is unprecedented. My recommendation is to go to Mario's as the food is a lot better and the staff members are really nice. You shouldn't spend your hard earned money at a restaurant that doesn't value its customer base. read more

Great pizza, steak tip subs are great, and their bread rolls are always fresh. The prices are not bad at all either.

I am done with this place. At first look, hole in the wall. Upon entering, greeted by surly looks and the feeling that I am unwanted. Calling in, I asked for extra bacon on the sub and a large mozzarella stick. of course, neither of these things were correct. I paid 8 dollars for a small, 5 piece mozzarella stick and an extra 1.50 for nonexistant bacon. I frequent this place on occasion when visiting my mother, and they forget little things every single time. Do not go to this Restaurant if you have any order more complex than a large cheese pizza. read more

I liked going here for a few years until one day my wife found a bug in her salad. Not only were they rude about it, but they had the nerve to suggest that we did it intentionally to get our money back! We hadn't even eaten any of the salad yet! Don't know how this place gets away with serving the trash that it does. After seeing them pull raw chicken from a pan kept at room temperature I thought I'd never go back. I've never eaten here before, and just ordered a pizza for the first time tonight. I talked to the kid on the phone at 9:36. I asked him for a particular pizza that I saw on their website, and asked if I could substitute one of the meat options on it for a vegetable. The kid told me yes, and I chose which vegetable, and then proceeded to read out every ingredient that would be on the pizza to confirm with him. He agreed. My boyfriend went to pick up the pizza at 9:57. When he arrived, he opened the pizza to check that the order was right, and could clearly see that it wasn't. The kid assured him that he had told me over the phone that they had changed their menu, and the pizza that I ordered would not have the exact same ingredients anymore. (He did not mention this at all on the phone, and certain ingredients were totally missing, and weren't replaced with anything else.) My boyfriend paid and left, even leaving a tip. When he arrived home, I saw that the meat on top was sausage and was supposed to be hamburger. I called, especially after hearing about the kid's lie that he told me about the new menu, and asked if he had put hamburger on my pizza. He assured me that he did, that he had personally made my pizza himself. I tasted it, my boyfriend tasted it, and the meat was clearly sausage. He told me again that he had put the ground beef on himself (another lie.) I live at the bottom of the street from this pizza place, and I will never be back again. When I let them know how disappointed I was, especially with this being the first time I had tried this pizza place, the kid had literally nothing to say, not even sorry, and FORGET trying to make any amends. I moved to this town a year and a half ago and no one had anything good to say about Captain Pizza. I now know why, and I certainly won't be back. read more

Love me some Greek pizza! Drove by this place approximately 200 times and laughed about the name "Captain Famous" before my husband dragged me there. Now we don't get our pizzas anywhere else (namely Mario's). Don't plan to eat in, the decor is leftover from the 70's but the prices and food are great. read more

Two words: HORRIBLE SERVICE. Everytime i call i can barely understand the person on the phone. When i am at work i normally order from Captains. One time the delievery guy actaully yelled at me once for giving him a 3 dollar tip for a calzone, hes said he expected more. My work is a 5mintue from captains. I live in the next town over. My house is less then 5 mins away since i live right on the border and they said they could not deliver that far with just a calzone. Not impressed with their service what so ever! read more

Awesome Greek Salads. Great pizza cut in small squares...great for kids! Also tastes great and we love the calzones.

I been to captain pizza a few times and every time I expect the food and service to get better. It doesn't. The owner rushes you to order. And when I ask for specific toppings in my subs half are missing. What the heck is he writing on the paper when taking my order?!?!? The meatball subs don't even have sauce nor are they balls. They are sliced meatballs and no sauce. Roast beef sub was cold and I asked for three way and got no sauce. The way they talk to their employees reflect the poor taste of food and service. I recommend you stick with fried foods when eating here. It's the only thing that isn't prepared by them and goes from bag to fryer. read more

Ordered the buffalo chicken dinner and I am so disappointed. I love buffalo tenders and get them from places often. Captains do not toss their tenders in sauce and hardly put any on the chicken, there was a very small amount drizzled on top and I was not provided with any sauce on the side. We are regulars at this shop. The food is okay at best but it the only place open past 9 so we end up there often. The help is friendly except for the manager (owner?). He is mean and miserable to customers and employees alike. Tonight however was exceptionally awful. Without going into details one pizza that was served to us was inedible (literally, not figuratively) and the other (we hope) was okay. My kids took slices from the first pizza and began eating. We took slices from the bad pizza, and upon realizing it was bad we threw our slices back in the box and told the kids to stop eating theirs.. We didnt put their slices back in their box, we threw them away. My husband returned both pizzas and discreetly explained the situation. The guy gave my husband a hard time and after back and forths and attitude he decided to refund the cost of ONE pizza but not the second because we 'ate' the majority of the other. Believe me, we dread what we ate. We wish we could take it back. The pizza we paid for was $11 so cost is not the issue, customer service is. Mistakes happen, ick factors happen,etc BUT when something is drastically wrong THAT YOU CAN SEE IN PLAIN SIGHT yet you fight with a customer over $11 instead of thanking them for not making a scene considering the situation , you are a total jerk who does not deserve my business. I would like to know how he would have handled/reacted to the same situation if he was the customer. He is rude and miserable on his good days -- he would have never handled it as professionally and discreetly as my husband. DISGRACEFUL -- on a customer service level and a common courtesy level. Wish I could give it less. The employees here are complete jerks. Rude to the customers. They attempted to over charge me once on a delivery. I did the math, proved them wrong, and called the delivery man out for attempting to squeeze an extra few bucks out of a paying customer. I went in one time and the employees were literally in a fist fight. Today was the tipping point. I ordered delivery on my food. I received it, opened it, and realized they completely botched my order. I tried to salvage it but, to no avail. I called and politely requested it be remade. The employee hung up on me..... Yes, he hung up on me. I called back to ask for the manager. I called back and the manager answers. I quickly tell him his employee had hung on me and then I told him about my botched order. Ironically, he hung up on me. That was when I lost it. I called back and me and the manager exchanged an explicit conversation. He hung up on me. Rather than driving up and shoving the order up his ass, I decided to make a yelp and write a review. I chose the more civilized path. All in all, I cannot believe he did this to a customer. Especially, a customer who has five other siblings who have continued to come back here time and time again. Just ridiculous. So, please do not support this genuinely awful establishment. Their are five other awesome pizza places in North Reading (Andreas, Hornets Nest, Parrows, Papa Gino's, Mike's). Support them, not Captains Pizza. Thanks. read more
