I was in the area on business so i decided to try Danvers Pizza and Subs. Husband has celiac and I am lactose intolerant so the menu containing gluten free pizzas, apps, subs and calzones really caught our attention! I had a gluten free pizza with vegan cheese, green pepper and extra sauce. The pizza was good. The crust is great and the vegan cheese they use is good too. My only issue was that there was only a very thin layer of sauce - even with me ordering it with extra sauce. It needed a lot more sauce. The huz got a cheesy crust/stuffed crust style pizza with sausage and pepperoni. After actually not recommending i order this pizza, the guy explained that they take their gluten free calzone dough and use it to make the pizza so they can fold the edge over to contain cheese. It is a different dough/crust than they use for just a regular gluten free pizza. He also stated they did a well-done bake on this dough because it needs it. He also explained that they have separate prep areas for the GF pizzas. We appreciated that they are mindful of this and knowledgeable about their product in this manner. Its funny that I had to talk him into letting me order this pizza. He expressed fear about bad reviews. I explained we are a household used to GF items and its not a problem. Im happy to report that the pizza was very good. He had nothing to worry about with us. Also, when i tell you that the gluten free onion rings were AMAZING, believe me. These were some of the best onion rings ive ever had - gluten free or conventional!! Lastly, I also had a small meatball sub with a regular/conventional roll. This was also good. Overall great menu of conventional and gluten free pizza and subshop items. Gluten free items always cost more so a higher purchase total was expected. The only thing that i would say was unexpectedly pricey was the small conventional meatball sub coming in at $15. That said, loving the wide range of gluten free options and will be back when im in the area again. read more

I tried pizza from Danvers pizza for the first time today. It's the worst tasting pizza I've had in a very long time. I just moved into a new place and have a lot of unpacking to do, so I don't feel like cooking. I got a large pizza because I was looking forward to reheating it the next day for leftovers but after tasting it, I don't even want it anymore. The ordering process was long and difficult, the food took over 1.5 hours to arrive, we were yelled at and disrespected when we called to check on the order status, and our delivery driver didn't even come to the building. On top of that the food was disgusting and almost inedible. It tasted weirdly vinegary, spicy and overly salty. Just bad all around. I came on yelp looking for a place to order a steak and cheese calzone and saw that Danvers Pizza had 4 1/2 stars and their reviews all seem to be positive. I looked at the menu online and viewed the photos on yelp and their website and their calzones looked delicious. I called and placed an order for a large steak & cheese calzone with extra American cheese. To say I was disappointed with what my boyfriend brought home would be an understatement. This is honestly the worst calzone I've had my entire life. The calzone was missing 50% - 75% of the meat that should've been inside and they're in no way was extra cheese added Noah the normal amount of cheese that should've been. And there was a strange taste that I could not place with a couple of bites I took. I called Danvers Pizza to complain and request a refund the man that answered the phone was zero help nor did he know the first thing about customer service. He informed me the reason my calzone was missing half to meat and cheese was because I had added American cheese to it. Which makes no sense for more than one reason, but the main reason I can think of is because this is how I have always ordered this calzone from other establishments and have never had this issue before. He refused to refund me and hung up on me. I will be calling my bank to dispute the charge and will be posting this review so other people don't order from here and have to deal with a headache like I have now. I honestly wish I didn't even have to give them one star, but that's the lowest you can read in an establishment. I've ordered from Danvers Pizza & Subs twice and was very happy both times. Easy online ordering system, reasonable prices, and awesome customer service each time. I've had the veggie and chicken parm pizzas. Veggie pizza had a great variety of toppings. The chicken parm pizza was delicious and reminiscent of its namesake. My one complaint is I wish it had more cheese. Both pizzas had fresh ingredients and flavorful sauce. My favorite item that I've tried, however, is neither pizza nor sub. It is the jumbo Thai chickens tenders. They are incredible. Huge strips of chicken, perfectly crispy with a generous coating of sweet and spicy sauce. It tastes like the sweet chili sauce you find at Thai restaurants, so the spice adds a kick but isn't overwhelming. I'm getting hungry just thinking about them. Considering this is a locally owned business that opened during a pandemic, the owners have done an excellent job getting things up and running. Definitely recommended. read more

I definitely did not eat the same food as all of these positive reviews. Not trying to be a hater at all, but I feel compelled to write an honest review because I decided to try this place based on its rave reviews and my experience vastly differs. Ordering was easy, delivery was timely. But the food is really not good. I'm so sorry to have to say that, but it's pretty much the defining characteristic of if spending money on said thing was worth it and if I would recommend it to others. Neither is true about this food. I don't know if this was an off night or what, but those Thai chicken tenders everyone is raving about? Is it supposed to be a few thin-sliced chicken breasts that are so over cooked all they can do is shred and fall apart, swimming in a sauce of sugar + a few chili flakes, with super thick and soggy breading that is nowhere even near staying in one piece or attached to the chicken? It's completely inedible. The pizza is your standard HoP Greek pizza, which I believe to be a deciding factor in if I would want a certain pizza. I, personally, would not choose that kind of pizza. The pictures on yelp don't look like the pizza I received. Edited to add photos. After going back through and looking at other customers' photos, i realize how completely different my food was in comparison to others'. This place is the real deal and the hype is real. Chicken fingers tasted like chicken finger crack. Who are you people?! I couldn't put them down. Do ya self a favor and order a large. What tasted like HOMEMADE honey mustard was the perfect touch. Cheese pizza was delish as well. Unfortunately it took my pizza 3 hours to be delivered and I was double charged. The first time I placed the order it was through the Slice App. The order did not go through but of course my payment did. The second time it went through and they waved the delivery fee which I appreciate, but it took 2 hours for the order to get here and the pizza was cold upon arrival. It was my first time there. The people working there were nice. My turkey sub was good but not great. It was also not put together well. The tomatoes were all on the top and when I tried to eat it in the car, they fell off and all over the place. The slice of pepperoni pizza was way too heavy on the cheese. It was not very tasty. This place is AMAZING! We moved in the fall and Danvers' gluten free calzones have been the best food we have gotten in Massachusetts, my boyfriend agrees and he doesn't have a gluten allergy. We do not live close and make the effort to drive 45 minutes out of the way to pick a couple up. They are great fresh, but they also make delicious leftovers. So when I opened both I would have to say the pizza looked very basic, I actually passed and went straight to the chicken. It was amazing!! These are more like chicken breast size lol, very big and delicious. The sauce, the breading, the freshness of the chicken and no crazy things or tendons in it. Was spectacular! After stuffing myself with chicken I decided I should at least try the pizza. Was I wrong about basic, it doesn't look like much but seriously even my daughter who doesn't really care for pizza loved it. Everything was fresh, the pepperoni was awesome, the cheese was fresh and fantastic, the sauce was perfect, the crust everything. Everything delicately balanced.
