Took a quick day excursion to Chicago and found this place on my way home. What a dynamite barbecue spot. I consider myself a barbecue connoisseur. This place ranks right up at the top for me. The inside has a kind of deli feel to it. You can visually see everything you want to purchase. Tons of meat and seafood options are available. Everything is reasonably priced. The staff and chefs are extremely friendly and hard working. The food was great. I had a barbecue rib platter with a side of garlic red potatoes, greens, and cornbread. The ribs were amazing , and so were the sides. My companions tried the scallop plate with rice and also the smoked chicken and rib platter. They also thoroughly enjoyed their purchases. Soda and alcohol are also available for purchase as well as desserts. Food comes out quickly and there is plenty seating available inside of the restaurant. The barbecue sauce they use is cherry flavored. While I was there , one of the workers was taking cherries off the tree out front , which I assume are used for the barbecue sauce. Love watching restaurants use on site ingredients to make creations. Skip the tolls, take highway 41.Grab some great barbecue!!!

I understand brisket comes with some fat but when half of your order is fat that's unacceptable!!!

What happened to Captain Porkys??? I order rib tips and instead they give me the most fatty brisket I've ever seen!!! I ask for extra sauce on the side for our pulled pork sandwiches and I get nothing!!! I requested all the fries to be extra crispy and I have no idea if they did that because their new plastic containers don't vent all the steam unless you actually pop open the vents!!! Super soggy fries!!! This used to be my "go to" for BBQ... Now it's becoming my "used to go to"!!!

We've passed numerous times and finally stopped today. They have a hot counter with ribs and soul food as well as a fish counter and sweets. You can order and sit down and eat. We got some smoked fish for New Years. We should have grabbed the crab. It smells heavenly in there! Very friendly staff!

The food is great! The Cajun Chicken Strips are AMAZING so much better than Canes. The Clam Strips were delicious!! Corn bread on point! Not a huge fan of their BBQ sauce but it was good and we ate the pulled pork and brisket we got! The service was great! It's an order at the counter, find a seat, and they'll bring it to you type of restaurant. Everyone we encountered was wonderful. The restaurant is so clean which I really appreciate. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because everything we ate was not a 5... 2 of the 4 things we ordered were.

We came here for lunch after my sailors graduation. Everything looked beautiful. The display case of seafood and desserts we ordered fried clams, shrimp and scallops with sauteed veggies, shrimp etouffe plate with roasted potatoes and greens, pulled pork, lobster roll, clam chowder and a pb cup. The portions were large and filling. My son said the shrimp was a bit salty for him. The rest of us enjoyed our food. The scallops were cooked beautifully and my sauteed veggies were also tasty. Food may have looked a bit better than it tasted for some. Pulled pork was "super good. Moist. Not too salty. It was really good." Pb cup was "good to fair." Was just plain pb on top and inside and chocolate was pretty hard. It was pretty basic. Looked better than it tasted. (The cheesecakes they had in the display case looked amazing.) The folks there were friendly and helpful and the location was clean and everything was well stocked.

I recommend their beef brisket and fried mushroom. Also their turtle cheesecake even the chocolate cake. It tastes good.

We're group of 7, We didnt know that It is like a "take out"place. Shanty's located at the back which made the store looked larger. It is a 1-4 person table only. We have to wait to be seated as we're group. I recommend their beef brisket and fried mushroom. Also their turtle cheesecake even the chocolate cake. It tastes good. Young staffs are accomodating while older female staffs are cranky. Hopefully they're more welcoming next time. Other than that, we enjoyed the foods which matters the most.

Stopped in for some seafood and dinner for the rest of the family. Called ahead of time and placed the order so we would be in and out. We ordered the 1/2 lb clam strips with garlic potatoes, greens and cornbread, 1/2 slab BBQ ribs with garlic potatoes, greens and cornbread and 1/2 lb beef brisket with cole slaw, garlic potatoes and cornbread with the sauce on the side. The food was ready for pick up when we got there. The food was good, and the portion sizes were good as well. Could have used more potatoes. We all enjoyed our meals. I only managed to get one photo and that was of the beef brisket.

On the way down to visit the Navy base in Great Lakes, decided to stop in for early lunch. I've never been to a setup that mixes BBQ and seafood like this before! Everything hit perfectly. The Cajun chicken was off the hook! Praises to the cook and staff! Prices vet reasonable and plentyof parking!

    Pulled Pork BBQ Chicken

Me and my husband ordered 2 dinner plates thay consisted of pulled pork, BBQ chicken, garlic boiled potatoes, corn bread, slaw and fries. Let's get started with the chicken, it was soooooo dry that it hurt to even try to chew it,.let alone swallow it. The pulled pork was dry and not seasoned, the GARLIC potatoes didnt have a grain of.garlic to them(had to add my own seasonings just for them to be edible, the cornbread was dry to the point it crumbled all apart and fries were cold and mushy and the slaw was tangy, tasted of vinegar. Service was good, I give them that but that food was not food. VERY HIGHLY disappointed for 2 plates of food that nearly cost $50

Food pretty good serve fast price is reasonable. But the table and seat are very sticky and greasy. Service are pretty ok.

My mother has been coming to Captain Porky's for years and had the opportunity to join her. Scrumptious home cooking with many menu choices and daily specials. Emphasis on BBQ and Cajun, but have some wonderful alternatives. On this visit, we had lamb with Greek potatoes and milk thistle greens, along with oysters Rockefeller and cornbread; all of which was outstanding. Most impressive is the friendly owner Dino who is passionate, engaging and dispenses wisdom from his many experiences. Love the homey and welcoming atmosphere.

    ratatouille / briam and eggplant

I've been coming here for years when I am in the area- it never fails to be a happy making experience! Fish by the pound is always good. They change their fryer oil often enough so the flavor of the food is always clean and fresh. OMG, the sides- where to begin! The usual stand byes are consistently good, but the ones that are specials of the day are the ones to get! Okra, eggplant, ratatouille/ briam. I could make a meal out of those alone. BBQ: It's consistent. I'll be honest, Lems is hard to beat, but Capt's is a worthy alternate.

Even though it took 25 minutes to get my order, the food was still HOT! Not warm, but HOT! And the drink was cold and undiluted! What?! Now the quality. Y'all, nobody told me these cheesesteaks were going to be so freaking good and with a GOOD amount of meat! The bread was SOFT! The onions were caramelized with just enough crunch left to give them character, but not enough for them to be acrid and offputting. That's not cheap cheese on it either. Not paseurized processed cheese product crap, but REAL CHEESE! I wanna know where they get their jalapenos because I want some for cooking at home. No lie. I don't know what kind of oil and season are used for the fries, but I'll make the trip out to Gurnee Mills just for a load of their fries. You would think it's hard to mess up fries, but almost every eatery in the area does. They should send spies into Charleys to discover how to do better. Unfortunately it's not very clean... so that's not a very appealing choice. Dirty tables, sticky floor, empty boxes strewn about. It doesn't show much care for the business, which is a huge red flag. They have a very limited menu and it's not very logical. We had the broasted chicken, a two piece, and the number 2 meal. So the broasted chicken was good. The piece weren't as big as I would have liked but had good flavor and doneness. The tender that came with my meal was quite good, the spice level was accurate for my heat level choice which is hard to achieve. It was a bit on the salty side. The slider... first of all this is not a slider, it's basically a full sized chicken sandwich. It was overdone. Good flavor but tough. The fries were fine, nothing special but not bad. They have pictures on the wall that don't represent their actual food. I always hate when businesses use these generic stock photos. They even have a poster for a latte they don't actually have on the menu. Everything was made fresh at least, it didn't take too long to come out but it was obviously prepared to order. You aren't greeted as you walk in and you feel as if you're a bother even coming into eat although im the reason they have a job.. no business means no money means no hours... regarding this most recent visit and the reason I've decided to finally leave a review is because I've just had it. Walked in and was not greeted (typical from last time) waited 5 min to even be helped or asked what I wanted mind you there was no one upfront of me and no one was doing anything...when they finally asked what I wanted I asked are they speaking to me? I was just double checking because I had no interaction prior... I was responded with a rude "yes what do u want". I ordered my subs and as we get to the toppings I say "mikes way" when asked for the toppings. The kid looked at me as if I was stupid. I said "everything" to be clear, and when I said "everything" I meant, everything, I even waved my hand to show the entire spread of things. They decided to only put lettuce, oil and vin, and tomato not even the mikes way. So I spoke up and said "no I meant everything" they looked and just slapped the rest of the toppings on there carelessly. There is more to add but I don't want to waste more of my time. Won't be paying here a visit anymore. I believe it's a management issue because everyone there is the exact same.
