Seafood was extremely fresh. Portions are not that big and I was not a fan of the breading for the coconut shrimp... didn't taste like coconut at all just breading. I was not really that impressed with Captain Porky's. I do not like seeing cooked meat laying around in a case and then warmed up when it is time to eat it. I did like the barbeque sauce of all things this may be what is most important. The pork was way to salty and if you cannot tell I am pretty harsh when it comes to rating my barbeque after living in St. Louis and growing up in Texas it is really a food you are either good at cook or not. read more

Small no frills eatery that packs a big punch in menu options. We usually come here for the variety of seafood although they have barbecue too. Recently went with my wife and daughter and ordered fried cod and shrimp combo with fries, pan seared salmon with white rice, greens and garlic potatoes, and as usual we found the food filling and delicious. Oh my belly hurts! That was the best alligator tail I have ever eaten. Even better than alligator tail cooked by Cajun chefs at Mardi Gras. I made the mistake of getting a combo of rib tips and alligator tail. I never made it to the rib tips. The portions are huge and I was not about to leave any alligator on the plate. I decided to try this spot since I've been on a BBQ binge lately. All I can say is please save your money and go some place else. I just wasted $40 at this place for my wife and I. I got the full slab and my wife got the brisket. Walking in you can tell they cook a bunch ahead of time and let it sit there cut it up then warm it up. Was so dry I thought I ate a spoon full of sawdust. Decided to pour some of their "bbq sauce" all over it and their bbq sauce is like watery spaghetti sauce. I ate 2 ribs just in case it was the one I ate and it was the same so I ate the rest of the fries and threw away the rest. My wife said you can have the rest of my brisket sandwich if you want (she ate half of it) so I tried a bite and spit it out because it was so rough it was like eating a rubber band. Really good barbecue and seafood. Counter service place with benches and bars to eat at. Everything is made fresh to order. The owner actually modified his fry mix recipe to make a dairy free version I could eat. We had the fried lake perch which was excellent and the BBQ brisket with greens and steak fries. I stopped here for the first time, and the specialty in this carry-out is seafood (just as for its attached big brother, The Shanty, a full-service restaurant). Nonetheless, the special was beef brisket so that's what I ordered. What a mistake. The sandwich was virtually inedible, and I threw out at least half of it. Chunks of beef were fatty and rubbery, hard to bite off and unpleasant to chew. I'll stop here again to try the much praised seafood, but my first experience here gave me doubts about their quality control. We spent a large amount of money on a seafood boil for our family and it was pathetic the amount of food we received. The tray was mostly made up of potatoes. There were 10 shrimp and not much crab. And they completely forgot to include our salmon. We drove from Kenosha for this order and the management shrugged it off as a minor inconvenience. So I was so excited to go here because of the reviews and we love that type of food. I have to say the food was good, not excellent but good. I have 2 issues with the place that were hard not to overlook. Cleanliness...we sat at a table and there was a lot of dust and dirt on the window sills and the decorations. When the sun shines in you could see the dust on the seafood display and it was considerably noticeable and others noticed the same things. The last thing that bothered me was there was a huge freezer there that had bags of frozen seafood...alligator, conch, etc. This makes me wonder how fresh the seafood really is when its in bags just like in the grocery store. I like the concept of the small place, order and find a seat if you can, and good selections of food, but would like to see a cleaner place. We will go back to check it out again though. read more

I ordered a rib tip meal the sauce was the best thing the ribs were over cooked meaty parts so tough couldn't chew them the fries were not that good cornbread cold and dry wouldn't touch the coleslaw and a side order of baked beans costing $4.50 straight out of the cooler in a plastic container ice cold. We stopped in Saturday afternoon around 4pm for an early dinner. Never been here before so we thought we would give it a shot. Girl that was behind the counter told us the specials and seemed really helpful to the other customers that were trying to make their decisions. We made our choices of the combo meal. My lady ordered rib tips and the shrimp with the sides of fries, coleslaw and a roll. I ordered the pulled pork and hot link with the sides of greens , the garlic potatoes and the cornbread. I also had to induldge myself into ordering one of the specials, the stuffed sweet pepper, and I must say that was the definate highlight of my meal and am glad I made the choice to be a bit of a pig. My hot link was well, a hot link. If you like sweet sauce this is a good BBQ spot, I thought the sauce was very good even though I am more of a vinager based sauce kind of guy. The pulled pork was a little on the dry side and I really didn't get much of the smoke flavor that I was expecting. The greens were very good although I think was mostly cabbage, nonetheless were pretty tasty. The garlic potatoes were red skins and had a very mild garlic taste, probably wouldn't order again. The cornbread was pretty good although a bit dry. I did have a taste of the rib tips and they were pretty dry and quite tough, her coleslaw I really didn't care for, lacked flavor and I must say my recipe for coleslaw is much better. Now for the rave review...... THE SHRIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were huge, lightly battered and DELICIOUS!!!!!!! The next time we go back we will be having the seafood and will be staying the distance from the BBQ, although that stuffed pepper was equally delicious. This is the only place I will buy my seafood from. I make the trip from Kenosha down to the establishment. Their superior customer service ensures me of the great quality of fish, desserts, and products. Since all of their fish is fresh, don't be surprised to find a halibut one week, grouper the next, and swordfish the week after that. They even have local honey and olive oil to cook with right there! If you are in a hurry, stop in and try some of the coconut shrimp, breaded perch and walleye, or a po boy. Captain Porky's is a huge departure from anything else in the area. The food is incredibly fresh and diverse. They have the standard fish choices, but also everything from alligator tail to craw dads to frog legs they have a selection that you just can't find anywhere else. The seafood is laid out in a glass case and prepared right in front of you. It's top quality food prepared at almost a fast food pace for a very reasonable price. The seating is okay for a quick lunch, but if you're planning a nice leisurely dinner it's best to take out. read more

We came here for lunch on a Saturday, based on a glowing brisket recommendation from a co-worker. The items on-line looked very good, and I loved the mom-and-pop story. Outside, there was a great grilling smell, and all was great. Once got in, it turned out to be an interesting place. Generally, it looks more equipped to be a Carryout place, because the dine-in part is very "basic". I am all for the "communal" bench seating, so I found that to be part of the charm. There was one deli-style display case with the BBQ items which honestly did not look all that appetizing and there was another separate deli display with fresh seafood. And the place sort of smelled like it... A bit if a turnoff, but still part of the charm... The ordering was fairly easy, and the young lady was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a couple of combos with drinks, a small mac'n'cheese, and a small octopus salad. Our bill was $41!! I was a bit sticker-shocked but still very hopeful. And the the food arrived... It turns out that they use a Virginia-Carolina style BBQ sauce which is watery and based on tomato sauce. I am NOT a fan... I prefer Sweet Baby Ray's type of sauce. The items tasted ok, but the quantity did not justify the $12.99 price. We had the mac'n'cheese and while the elbows were cooked perfectly, the cheese tasted off. Perhaps there was Gorgonzola in it. The octopus salad was fresh, but I felt that a $5.99 price for a small container should have more octopus rather than a ton of chopped veggies and a ton of olive oil. So overall, the brisket did taste great, the tips were good, and pork shoulder was moist and juicy. Get it all without the watery BBQ sauce. If you are in Wadsworth and have a taste for grilled meat go here otherwise, I would not take a special drive out. read more

Fried cajun catifsh was the best I've had since my favorite place in Texas. Soooooo happy! Fried cod was so fresh and flavorful, with a very light batter. The fried clam strips were amazing!
