This was my second time ordering from Mother Cluckers, and the first (I hope last) time that a strand of someone's wig or weave was in the box of chicken. Hair nets, people! Hair nets! The chicken was divided between two boxes, so I just ate from the uncontaminated box and set the wig-affected pieces out for the squirrels in back. My friend and I went to Mother Cluckers today to try it since we were heading to the mall and didn't want the usual mall food. It was one of the best choices I've made this month! I got: 2 pc chicken: 10/10 nice and fresh! We waited about 20 minutes since they make it fresh to order. It was nice and juicy and really crispy. The biscuit is life changing! It was perfectly sweet and crisp! Cole slaw: really good! Not overly sweet and great texture. Onion rings: great portion and really yummy!! We got our order for dine in. There were a few slot machines around and a small bar. The people working there are very nice and checked up on us periodically to make sure the food was good. THE BISCUITS. I'm sad I only got a couple because truly the star of the show. We ordered a 5 piece whole chicken, some biscuits and some corn fritters. Like I said the biscuits were SO good, we were fighting over every last ones. The corn fritters were full of flavor as well they reminded me of funnel cakes I think because of the powdered sugar but still yummy. The chicken was a bit of a miss for me, I think the batter was a bit too salty so I didn't enjoy it as much but overall a great meal. Stopped in for a bite while on the road. Not an impressive location, in a mini-mall attached to a gas station, but clean and pleasant inside, a few tables so you don't have to eat in your car. Updating based on an interaction I just had with the business: Received a call at 11:58pm regarding the review I posted 6 hours ago, claiming I "just posted it," accusing me of lying (as you can see by his response that I attempted to "take advantage" of his business.) even in the email I received with his "response" it states it is for the review I posted 6 hours ago. I answered the phone at midnight because my husband works nights and I thought he may have been in an accident. When the owner introduced himself, my shocked answer was to ask why he was calling at MIDNIGHT. My review was written at 6pm. The owner asked me what the problem was with the food and why I didn't go to them directly. Well, I paid Grubhub, so I contacted Grubhub because there was a problem with the food. That's how it works. I explained in detail to a Grubhub customer care associate the issues, and they issued what they deemed fair. It was not a chargeback on the entire order, as can be shown by the receipts. The bottom line is the food was inedible. I got a partial refund through the third party service I ordered with and paid, which the owner said he disputed, and he called me a liar, and dropped an F bomb on me (which I will admit I reciprocated after he swore at me first.) The whole interaction was completely inappropriate and horrendous. I said "you're calling me at midnight? I've been in bed for hours." His response? "You don't sound like you've been in bed for hours." I am a fair yelper with a long history of providing honest reviews. This establishment will never be receiving my business again. Original review: Sadly, Mother Cluckers was a miss for us. I ordered for delivery through Grubhub, and it was delivered on time, and the food was hot. Unfortunately that's where the food ends. We ordered spicy chicken, but the only "spice" notable was salt, and a lot of it. The biscuits were dense and seemed undercooked, the livers were also undercooked (really sad as I've been looking for a place to replace browns,) the corn on the cob was inedible, the breading on the mushrooms was doughy, and the corn fritters were like eating sand. I ordered online and I thought I was getting 5 piece chicken with fries as I have got this before and it was no problem but your employee told me as I ordered online what comes up on that and he can't swap it out but I can place another order why would I do that no empathy no customer service just don't care.. on top of that i purchased a lemonade I tasted it and it was nasty and watered and was told oh it went out and they still gave me lemonade that went out I came back and changed it. Service was great! Good interactions with staff. We ordered an order of dark, wings, catfish and mushrooms. Unfortunately the chicken was extremely salty. We tried to cut the salt with honey, but that didn't help. I think it was the batter was over salted. The thigh was extremely fatty as if the chicken had not been cleaned; thick layer of fat under skin. Catfish had a bad taste, extremely fishy with a taste that's really hard to describe. Could've been close to going bad (unfortunately). We were so sad for this experience. I hope it's better for others. It's neither great nor horrible, it's perfectly acceptable and that is a good thing. I came here today because I was out and about running errand and a guy on TikTok (ZachJack) was going on and on about how great this place is. So let's get into it. First the bad. They were out of a whole category of chicken, dark meat. It's a chicken (primarily) restaurant and they were out of a whole category of their menu. The place does have video gaming (gambling lite) and if you choose to eat in the restaurant like I did be forewarned, the machines are effing noisy and annoying. The dining area could have used a wiping down, I sat at the table with the least amount of crumbs on it. I won't go on about the location being less than ideal but it's definitely somewhere I'd never think of to look for a decent restaurant. Now onto the good. The employee (cashier) was a delight, he even brought the food out (bonus points for that) to the table. He had the kitchen throw in an extra wing as a nice he stare since he understood I was less than thrilled about not being able to get the cuts of chicken I wanted. I ordered the chicken wings and biscuit. The food was good, it was a little above average fried chicken and a dope biscuit. I say a little above average since it wasn't anything particularly special, but that biscuit was delightful. If you decide to eat in the restaurant you should wait at least 5 minutes before eating as the food is served piping hot. Is it the best chicken in the area like that TikTok guy said, not even close, but it is good. I'd recommend it if you want chicken and are on you way home and are driving on the highway in that direction since it's the only way you're going to get there. If you're specifically craving chicken and you're not going that way, you can do better with very little effort. This is not me saying this place is bad, I just can't go on and on like that TikTok guy did when there are easily better places in the town of Gurnee and its surrounding suburbs. read more

First off, we have been looking for good fried chicken for a while, we moved to the area a little over a year ago. By chance went on valentines day at 430 . Not crowded. The service was very good, helped us decide what to get. Was attentive through out. We got a 3 piece, a 2 piece dark and fries and rings. Chicken may be the benchmark we were looking for. Apparently fried in beef tallow, super crunchy and juicy. Added bonus, they have had mixed cocktails. We had repasado margarittas that were "real" no mix and as good as anywhere. Saw this place on TikTok and decided to give it a try. Food was excellent! Had the catfish filet which is hard to do well in my experience, and they nailed it. I even had extra and it was great in the air fryer the next day. Onion rings were really good too. Tried some of my buddies chicken strips and they were excellent. Their biscuits though, holy next level. Literally might be my favorite ever. Definitely stop in if you can! I would say if this place had a down side it would be it's a very small dining room. So this is the first time we've been to Mother Clucker's Chicken after having passed it for a while now. Let me say that I wish I had stoppped in a LOT earlier! They make this food fresh for you - straight up. You have to give them a little time, but what you get in return for that wait is some of the best fried chicken and sides you can ask for. The chicken? Crispy exterior houses an incredibly juicy interior that is just a party in your mouth. The biscuits? Fluffy, sweet, savory - a flavor bomb that is just amazing. We also had a side of mashed potatoes and coleslaw and let me say that the potatoes tasted like something you'd get at home (assuming someone is making amazing potatoes) and the coleslaw was creamy, dreamy and crunchy. Just delicious. My son had the spicy chicken sandwich and he said it was amazing, too! However their side dishes are kind of pricey so I only get the chicken. But they have great chicken. Yes it's a pain in the neck to only be able to turn right out of the parking lot. But if you want the best fried chicken you will ever find anywhere then pull into Mother Cluckers Chicken. Located in the small strip mall attached to the Shell gas station on US Rt 41 at Sterns School Rd. Each order in fried for you so expect to wait about 15 minutes, but the wait is so worth it. The chicken is crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. The flavor beyond wonderful. I have purchased chicken and then taken to a local park for a picnic and it is still crispy, not soggy like chicken from other shops. And don't forget their sides. The fries are crisp and tender and the dirty rice has just the right amount of zip. Oh one more thing. Be sure to ask for some of their in-house made barbecue sauce. Sweet with a kick you will love.
