We used to love Capt Woodys but even though Covid has dictated it is safer not to be crowded, the majority of the patronage do not wear masks and are crowded close together. The bathrooms are dinky and not clean. Our last visit our older kids pointed out how dirty the seats, under the table and floor was. I don't know why this place gets great ratings. It is quite a popular place and it's obvious that many people frequent the restaurant. We had a wonderful waitress who was very attentive and friendly. I have no problem with the service, but the food ... I ordered the shrimp platter which had many large and obviously fresh shrimp, a pile of fries, and coleslaw. The shrimp were cooked perfectly but the coating was flavorless. The so-called seasoned fries were also flavorless. The cole slaw could have used additional mayo. The best thing about the meal were the hush puppies. There was a bite to them and they were delicious. My husband ordered a fried oyster po-boy and he was unable to finish it. He thought it tasted funky. I guess he should return it to the kitchen but we didn't want to bother. What a fun place Captain Woody's is. Not much for atmosphere, but delicious food. Especially the seafood entrés. The Shrimp Po Boy is a very large, delicious sandwhich and so enjoyed by my husband! This is a good place to sit on the screened porch, watch the world go by, have a cold drink and maybe food. Big menu of (obviously) seafoodand other traditional choices. I had a generous portion of their "lowcountry saute"...a much less messy take on the lowcountry boil. Shrimp are shelled and the corn is cut from the cob. And they give you a spoon to eat it like stew. If you are into splitting...this is a good choice...maybe add a good sized side salad for each. I only gave it a 4 star, because they don't really do anything about gluten allergies. They said their fries are gluten free, but they looked like they had breading! And, gosh, why can't they cut up the veggies on the salad. whole red and green pepper rings...an onion slice...big pieces of lettuce. I LOVE places that chop and toss a salad! Food menu could be a bit more extensive but we've been there 5 x's and we're not disappointed. The portions are also equal to what you pay. Parking might be a hassle so be prepared to walk a little? Disappointing. We ordered 2 different soups, which were not bad but not good either, and fish tacos. The fish in the tacos was very good but everything else about the tacos was not the same. Cold tortilla shells and the toppings were not very good. When our server cleared the table he never asked why we barely touched the tacos. I go to this place often. Wouldn't say I'm a regular yet. The past few times, however, there have been some screaming kids. I mean SCREAMING. Two visits ago a woman had her dog (no not a working dog a maltese or something) barking non stop. This is the Bluffton Kickball League hang out every Thursday night after the games. They have a great roof top bar and there is usually live music on Thursday's and Friday's. Another great seafood restaurant in this area. Located in downtown Bluffton, it is actually Bluffton's best restaurant. Steaks, seafood; all excellent. This restaurant if great for either lunch or dinner. Beware, however, that seating is limited, so be prepared to wait for a table or for slower than usual service. There is nothing below par on the menu. A full bar awaits those who wait. If your pressed for time, go to Bluffton BBQ next door. Furious just now as I checked my receipt against my bank statement. Seems the server didn't think my tip was enough and decided to add himself an extra $20 to my bill. I guess he thought I wasn't a local, and instead just someone passing through, or that I wouldn't notice. After calling and having proof of the receipt, Perrin, the owner or supervisor, didn't even try to make it right. I would give ZERO stars if I could, and now online again wasting more of my time with my bank to get this settled. Went to the upstairs bar and waited about 10 minutes before I had to get up and find someone to take an order. I was dismissed as being an idiot and when I asked if I ordered at the bar or at my table, I got a response of "Whatever you want". I ordered a bucket of local beers and asked to put in the bartenders favorite beers, I also got a response of "Im not choosing your beer flavors" and was handed a menu. Our burger was decent, but the other two entrees were not good at all. My son ordered a chili cheese dog but we got out a plain hot dog. When I asked for it to be fixed we were given a side dish of cold grated cheese and what seemed to be a dish of luke warm chili out of a can. They did not even take the hotdog back, put the chili on it, or attempt to warm the cheese. My wife got a prime rib sandwhich and it was mediocre at best. The primerib sandwhich was overcooked, not seasoned, and cold. It also came with a side of au-jus which tasted like bouillon mixed with water. The roof top bar was pretty cool except for the service. This establishment was recommended to me by a few local friends and I am not sure why. I am hoping this was just the roof top bar experience because the downstairs looked nice. read more

What a gem to find Captain Woody's among the many choices around Bluffton and Hilton Head. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly and the seafood was very fresh. I'd go back for the home made hush puppies served with honey butter alone. . The salad with mahi mahi was fresh. We couldn't stop eating the chili, the shrimp camarone. The chicken fingers were made from real chicken breasts, which is not usually the case when ordering from the kids menu. Even the cajun fries were a surprising treat. Add sweet tea, attentive service, and a covered patio to enjoy it under and you have a culinary perfect storm here.
