Well, it's just this simple....if you are in the Hickory area or happen to visit, then do yourself a favor and patronize this place. This was our first experience and it definitely won't be the last. Where do I begin....well, from the very beginning, when we walked in, we were met with a pleasant hostess, who was smiling and eager to assist. We were immediately seated and greeted by our waitress, who was very knowledgeable and able to provide us with every detail of the menu, as well as, offer food suggestions. It was hard for us to make a decision because they offer a wide variety of choices. Our food arrived fairly quickly considering that it was Father's Day and pretty busy. The food was excellent and full of flavor. You could certainly tell that it was cooked and prepared with skill....remarkably good! We are some pretty hard people to please and they certainly exceeded our expectations! The customer service and professionalism by the owners and staff is outstanding! We were greeted by the owner, Mrs. Chanika who came over and introduced herself. She shared stories with us about the establishment and also checked on us throughout our dinner. I was highly impressed. After dinner, we sat outside on the benches in front of the restaurant and discussed what a delightful evening it was. They offer such a comfortable and welcoming environment and we did not want to leave! The Galley made Father's Day an enjoyable and memorable experience for my husband and his brothers! Been eating here for years just you old fashion fish camp. I have tried at least one of everything here and everything is good. Good old fashion food and staff and management is awesome but beware the hush puppies are like lays potato chips you can't just eat one lol best ones I have ever had and they bring a bowl out to each table. Hands down the best seafood in the tri-county area. Superb service, food is consistently outstanding! Especially the grilled salmon!

My mom wanted to go to this spot for Mother's Day and like any other spot it was crazy pack! We waited for almost a hour to be seated...I told her the food better be worth it! We were anticipating good seafood as we had not had it in a while. It was a take out order ready to be picked up. Half order of popcorn shrimp was extra greasy, not at all crisp. Half order of filet of flounder had more bones than you would expect and both entrees were hot on the inside, not on the outside as if it had been microwaved. As a matter of fact, styrofoam container which contained shrimp was obviously melted and dented into food. Each hushpuppy had at least 2 teaspoons of grease - yes I actually squeezed it out in my hand! And coleslaw tasted like salt mayo and cabbage, in that order. Manager said that everything was battered and fried fresh. He offered no refund or apology except to say that " Carbohydrates soak up a lot of grease." Let me just say that this place is a wonderful seafood restaurant in the south. I love coming to this place because it feels like the service and the kitchen staff really work to make sure that our dining experience is wonderful. I ordered the whole fish with a side of coleslaw and fries and let me tell you that I can only eat one side of the flounder fillet. I took the second half of the flounder home for the next day and it was still wonderful. I highly recommend everyone try out the whole flounder. We all return to this restaurant! read more

After a long day and the hunger pains was louder than my radio, it was suggested try this place out. Since I'm a picky consumer, telling me the food is southern made- yea right! You better follow the crowd and get ready to feast on something goot. The service was amazing and being a first time customer patiently explained the menu to me. I must admit that when the dessert tray came by going to another table I got distracted. The crab legs was delicious. I was thankful for the bib because my manners went out the window. The hush puppies ( did I forget to say I love hush puppies) were hot & plentiful. This place was pretty fire and I don't even like seafood .my choice tonight was hush puppies and a deep fried fish fillet sandwich I thought I was just going to get like your regular fare of square deep fried processed fish but this was actually a whole fish fillet it came with a pickle and coleslaw in a healthy serving of hush puppies which were sweet and delicious will be back absolutely loved my fish sandwich. the tartar sauce was even good read more

It's a hidden treasure! We went after church and it was PACKED. We had reservations for our small group church family of about 20 people. They had put 4 tables together (two and two). They had fresh hush puppies, water and tea on the tables which they refilled for us. I got the lunch special which was the size of dinner lol. Canadian flounder with popcorn shrimp and I opted for the sweet potato that I normally am not a big fan of. I thought it was pretty good so it must have been excellent. I went to the Galley yesterday and the food was great, along with the atmosphere, and our own server (Sam) was phenomenal. However there was a younger server there, her name was Courtney if I remember correctly, when I asked my server. She was talking rudely of my table to many other servers, even though this girl never spoke to us or took care of us personally. This was my first time at captain's galley and I truly did not like the disrespect for no reason, I would understand if I had done something but I had not. Considering I am in food service myself, this was completely unnecessary. I would love to go again and recommend it to others, if she isn't there. Other than this particular rude server, I loved it. So I normally don't vent on about this kind of stuff but I just had the WORST customer service experience ever at Captains Galley Seafood-HICKORY I am a server and try to be polite and courteous when ordering food (even takeout) at restaurants but apparently this particular restaurant doesn't believe in doing the same for its customers. The two ladies taking our Togo orders never looked me in the eyes or even greeted us. I tried to ask 1, JUST 1 question and the eye rolls, heavy sighs, and unhelpful/sarcastic answers I was given was the last straw. We POLITELY informed them we would be going elsewhere and left. I decided on the country style steak (a special Sunday feature) and it did not disappoint. Piping hot and a serving large enough to feed me for 3 meals. The food is very good . Portions are large .Waiters and waitresses are very attentive and courteous. We eat there every week and sometimes twice .The prices are reasonable. My favorite is the grilled Salmon , always prepared perfect. read more

We always enjoy our experience here- we visit family in town once or twice a year and always come to Captain's Galley. It's a nice, casual, old-school place - comfortable and friendly vibe. Makes sense that a lot of older folks and families with kids come here. Food is good quality, fresh and consistent. The service is very friendly. Our server tonight, Rebecca, was professional, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The host and cashier team extremely nice as well. While visiting family recently. My cousin suggested we try this place. I was overwhelmed LOL! The menu was extensive! I wanted everything! The hush puppies were delicious. The FISH is phenomenal! I'm still upset I didn't order the flounder. But I tried it and OMG it was so good! I had scallops,popcorn shrimp and perch filets. And the prices are GREAT for the amount of food you get. These guys have the Yumm-mmm-mmiest fish in Hickory. Hands down! (PS - We always just take it home, which I suggest you do by ordering there and just waiting. This was a random stop that we happened to find on the way home from vacation. I found it on Yelp, and we decided to go ahead and stop here. We were looking for seafood and thought it would be a good enough stop to meet our needs. I was pretty pleasantly pleased by this place. The food was decent--better than I was imagining. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. The servers were extremely friendly. The food was pretty good, and the portions were extremely large. We ordered the blooming onion as an appetizer because I love them and really wanted one. It tasted great! So much that my boyfriend, who normally hates onions, really enjoyed it as well. We ordered some of the lunch specials for our meals. They came with a lot, and the food was good. We left so stuffed and pretty satisfied! I ordered my wife and I both stuffed flounder and okra with slaw. We asked if this was boneless and we're told twice on phone that it was boneless. I went to pick up order and asked again if it was boneless and was told yes. I get home and of course it is a whole bone in flounder. We called back and they said I should have ordered the Monte Carlo which is boneless and not seen on menu, we threw away the food as til and ordered something different. I then had to go back and do a refund and repay for new order and I told them we needed some cocktail sauce, they said ok. I get home and now I have 6 tartar sauce and 6 coleslaw and no cocktail sauce. I guess I need to go to mayflower in Lenoir to get what I ask for. I would appreciate a phone call from management and some type of compensation for the time and gas I spent and still didn't enjoy the meal I got due to the extras not put in bag,,. Good fried seafood and a huge selection to choose from. If you need a fried fish fix, this is the place to go. They were clean, fast, and it was a fun night.
