    Shrimp Soup
    Kimberly V.

Cute peruvian restaurant in thai area. Staff was very friendly, wait was not long, and not overly crowded! Menu was very diverse and had many different options that were not just seafood. I got a shrimp soup dish, not exactly sure what the name was! The food was delicious! Seasoned very well and cooked perfectly. Typical price is around $20/plate, which I think is pretty high for this area. The downside of the yummy food is the portions. The plates are pretty small for how much you pay. Doesn't seem worth that high of a price. Other than that, the restaurant was cute and quick on waiting times!

El Batan has quickly become my favorite restaurant in NC. Awesome atmosphere with a Peruvian flare. We were seated immediately out on the patio and waiting on quickly, i cant say enough about the staff. We had Conchitas a la Parmesana, scallops with a crusty parmesan topping, Tacu Marisquero, crispy rice and bean and seafood and Aji Amarillo Risotto.. everything was so delicious, highly recommended.

    Fish ceviche

We went to the restaurant today super excited since we are from Peru and we were all so disappointed!! the pesto spaghetti was so bad didn't even taste like Peruvian food, same with the "potato a la huancaina" and the "spaghetti a la huancaina" no idea how they make that! Was definitely not Peruvian, also the ceviche de pescado (fish ceviche) was NOT fresh, it was done hours before it suppose to be fresh and crispy and done immediately after ordering, the fish sat too much on the juices and was mushy, it was just terrible for a Peruvian restaurant, the only thing that was ok was the asado with mush potatoes and rice, the Peruvian "beer Callao" and the pasión fruit juice. , i hope the cook check his recipes and sticks to Peruvian traditions and get better soon because he's giving the wrong impression of what Peruvian food really is which is fantastic!. NOT here is not.

I had seen posts on the local hickory FB page of a Peruvian restaurant about 10 minutes away from me and decided to give it a try. Pros: very delicious entrees, kind and sweet servers Cons: ambiance was a little unexpected for the quality of food, wait time was 3/5 The food was great, simply put. We came in hungry and open minded. Did not realize that the restaurant was in the golf course community. First entering the restaurant it was very quiet and room was simple layout. Menu offered plenty of food and drink options however I wish menu had pictures of the food. We ordered garlic chicken wings which took about 20 minutes to get. For the entrees we had Amarillo Risotto (steak risotto), Pescado a lo Macho (mahi mahi) and Arroz con Mariscos (fried rice). We had all agreed the steak risotto was best. Our entrees took a little longer than we expected as there were only 2 servers and 2 other groups seated in total we were there for 1.25 hours mainly waiting to eat. Overall if you are looking to try Peruvian food or support local spot I'd highly suggest giving this place a try. If you're short on time or looking for a more date night romantic spot may be best to save this for another night out.

Well, I did kinda...I have passed this…read moreColumbian "bakery" for many years without a second thought and I sure could kick myself for not trying it sooner! The Columbian Bakery+Restaurant has operated in this same storefront for around 20 years but I have never stopped in. I am not particularly familiar with Columbian-style foods and I did not feel there was anything that I would like from their "bakery". Boy, I do not think I have ever been more wrong about anything in my life...memories of past boyfriends start to creep in slowly-haha! I am currently obsessed with Statesville's Columbian Bakery+Restaurant! Yes, I said it! Not slightly obsessed, completely obsessed! I have patronized this business twice this week already and I plan to go there again before the weekend is over! The food is amazingly and authentically appetizing! To date, I have experienced the yummy goodness that is their Beef Empanadas, Tostones, Maduros, and my current foodie crush, Pan de Bonos. Each and every food item is fresh made to order except of course, for the bakery items BUT the bakery items are fresh made daily. The Beef Empanadas are a little meat-filled hand pie and they are so delicious! The pie consists of a thin cornmeal-type crust wrapped around the meat filling then deep fried. The meat filling is finely chopped or minced beef with small bits of potato (another reviewer said, beans, idk which it is but they're delicious) mixed in. It sounds heavy but it is actually quite light because the consistency of the filling is so fine and the outer crust is so thin. These yummies are so good, you cannot eat just one! The Tostones are smashed and fried green plantains. These are a salty side which taste like potatoes and they pair very well with the empanadas. The Maduros are fried ripe plantain chunks. I have had these before at other Latin restaurants and I do love them! The maduros from Columbian Bakery+Restaurant did not disappoint! They are just as good as any I've had and maybe just a little better because they are so fresh when you get them! These are a sweet side with just a hint of tartness. They pair well with any of the spicy foods served at this restaurant but I always eat them as a dessert! My favorite, the Pan de Bonos, are a bakery item but I was lucky enough to stop by when pan after pan of these little delectable puff balls were coming out hot and fresh from the oven. Yesssss! Who doesn't love a light and fluffy cheese bread ball?!? Cheese and Bread! Sign me up every time! But not to worry these addictive little things reheat really well in the microwave. I know because I ordered a dozen on my last visit! I cannot wait to go back to this Columbian paradise right in the heart of Statesville and try out more of their food offerings! The Columbian Bakery+Restaurant is active on social media, both Facebook and Instagram, so check them out! Be forewarned, they post videos of their yummy goodness often! They, also, have an online menu app.colombianbakerync.com for your browsing pleasure. You're welcome! I think I see a trip to Downtown Statesville in your near future! @columbianbakerystatesville @downtownsvl #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocalbusiness #shopsmall #shoplocal #eat-local

Wow, we made a great decision trying Mama Juana Latin Fusion. We had an outstanding experience. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by the host, we knew this was going to be something different. The host asked, and was genuinely excited when we told him it was our first time in. When the waiter arrived, he was excited to tell us about the menu, as well as the food itself. He enthusiastically explained that while they had Mexican dishes, authentic Latin food was their real specialty. He made great recommendations and took great care of us throughout the meal. We chose to try the empanadas (1 cheese, 1 chicken, and 1 steak) and some cheese dip with chorizo. Both were exceptional. Full of flavor. My wife and I agreed to split 2 entrees, and that was another good decision. I had the Cachapa with shredded chicken, and she had the Venezuelan Arepas. Neither of us had ever had these dishes, but both were amazing. We were stuffed, but no way we couldn't take a desert home for later. The flan and the Tres Leches were both AWESOME! If you are on the fence, just try this place. You will be glad you did! They take a tremendous of pride in the quality of the food. The restaurant was very clean and had a great ambiance.

We were impressed by the interest and fanfare this post-Helene event created for the locals. Parking on the street, across the street or a short way up the street is town free parking. Shannon and Rain were our friendly and helpful servers. There are many seating options. We chose the sun room which was comfortable. Others were seated outside on the side porch and several people were inside. We shared a bowl of the delicious French onion soup. Eat it while it's hot for the best experience. The buckwheat crepes were the perfect consistency to handle the savory entrees. My Market crepe was packed full of goodies including the sausage add-on. Each ingredient stood well on its own. The pesto was a standout. My partner got the mushroom crepe with chicken. She enjoyed immensely. Both entrees came with a fresh greens and balsamic dressing. The servings were generous enough to bring two halves home for dinner. Sharing soup and a savory crepe is a reasonable strategy if leaving leftovers in your vehicle during the summer heat is a concern. We joined the servers on the patio to watch the return of the train through a nicely recovering town.

The very personable owner came by and talked to us for a while and explained the menu. We learned it is family run with their son being a trained chef running the kitchen. In addition to the excellent explanation of the menu items, they also have rotating pictures on a TV screen along the wall so you can see what you are getting. We started with a pork tamale as an appetizer. This was brought out in about five minutes. The first bite was amazing. The corn masa was very flavorful and the pork was fork tender. We could have eaten several more of these as they were amazingly good. As a lover of pupusas, my selection was one each of chorizo, chicken, and loroco filling. All three were excellent. Each was well-filled with flavorful ingredients which could have stood on their own but were enhanced in the pupusa. The accompanying slaw was excellent. There was a hot sauce available which I would rate at about a 7 out of 10, so definitely bringing the heat, but I could not stop adding to to the pupusas because it tasted so good. The chicken stew special was amazingly good. Although simple, the flavors were exceptional. The salad was crisp and fresh. Latin Love is a hidden gem which needs to be discovered. The menu continues to change so there will always be something new to try. They have a solid foundation to build on and have the passion to make sure each customer has a wonderful experience.
