Marked this food truck near our resort on the "if we have down time before we leave" list but it has since moved to the "hidden treasure" collection. Had delicious grouper basket while my husband went for a messy - but equally satisfying - double cheeseburger and onion rings with the works (including chili). Friendly crew taking and delivering orders. Local folks stopping in and out the whole time, greeting their friends, and tourists like us feeling very lucky. read more

Wow! This was an exceptionally great tasting shrimp burger. The shrimp were flavorful and fried to perfection! We have eaten shrimp burgers on the island for many years and have enjoyed them, however this is unanimously our new favorite place amongst our group of 9. Most of us were full and yet still had to find it in our stomachs to eat the rest of the shrimp that fall out of the burger. This burger was LOADED with shrimp(20-30shrimp). Service was great and very fast(not what you expect from a food truck) and the prices were very reasonable. This be our "go to" place from now on when we visit EI. I've been going to the Big Oak just down the street for years but wanted to give the Captain a try. What a disappointment!! It was a heap of salty shrimp on a dry bun. You put on your own sauce which would not have been a problem but the only tartar and cocktil sauce that was offered were little plastic portions with pre made generic sauce. There are plenty of local places that sell local sauces on the island so the choice was disappointing. No ice tea, only saving grace was friendly service. If you want a lot of shrimp for $7.00, this is your place. But a lot of shrimp on a bun doesn't make for a good sandwich. Where's the sauce? There is such good and locally made tartar sauce and cocktail sauce all over the Crystal Coast. But this place had none of that. Very disappointed. Welcome to the Captain's Kitchen! Visited here in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence last week while helping my folks clean up some storm damage. Of course I hit up The Big Oak first time out but saw this food truck/trailer set up in a parking there in Salter Path, NC and couldn't resist checking it out especially after seeing the giant $6 Super Shrimp Burger Out by the road. Haha. Rolled up and ordered SSB with a side of Mountain Dew. I say side because I haven't had a MD in close to a year so this one I considered a dessert. . Was greeted heartily by a bearded gent (not Santa but that would have been cool) who thanked me kindly as did the other fellas cooking inside. The only thing I wish had had was a good slather of spicy cocktail sauce would have put it over the top. Condiments provided were Texas Pete and ketchup so I made do. Excellent. Will return for sure. The food here was excellent and very high quality. Much better than several of the meals we have had in the surrounding restaurants. We were staying just down the road in PKS and saw good reviews for this food truck. We decided it would make a great lunch before some mini-golf! My wife and son each had the grouper sandwich and loved it. My step-daughter and I each had the shrimp burger (mine with slaw, hers without) and they were great. My son and I also split the softshell crab sandwich. It was our first and I loved it - he wasn't crazy about it. All of the food was hot, fresh, and well prepared. My sister recommended this food truck to me, she said that all the food she tried here was quality and I gotta agree. I ordered the single plate scallops but I added soft shell crab, the main guy taking orders added an extra soft shell crab and thank god he did cuz as soon as I got into the car to start eating my son snatched one soft shell crab up and inhaled it! (I didnt know he even liked crab lol) My sister James and I are visiting North Carolina for a few days and I asked her what her favorite food was overall from our trip and she said it was the shrimp burger from Captains Kitchen and the scallops on my scallop plate. The only place I've been able to get fried whole soft shell crab is Trappers Sushi and they limit the amount to only 1 crab per patron (which is silly). They have a table of condiments, napkins and utensils for everyone to grab and go which is smart and convenient also prices are very reasonable cuz i know back in Washington the prices are much higher then what they charge here.
