They are not transparent about their pricing. Upon coming in, I was excited to see their prices were lower than the standard rates for nail services in Orange County. However, later I find out that there is a $5 "cuticle cutting" charge which is not listed on the price chart at all. (Apparently there is this "cuticle cutting" service for all of the manicures by the way.) The worst part is, I even asked to confirm the prices for the service I was getting beforehand and she (lady at the front) didn't mention the extra charge at all. When I told her this wasn't explained to me, she backtracked and made it seem like I was making a fuss. She, along with the person doing my nails, acted as though that was the correct cost all along and I should simply accept it. I am not a cheap person so it wasn't having to pay extra I was upset about. I know a lot of times extra charges are to be expected at a nail salon. But what I don't respect is telling customers one price, then sneaking hidden costs in. That reflects a lack of integrity in business and makes me not want to support it. To be fair, my manicure turned out decent, however, not excellent. It started peeling not too long after my service. The service was also very rushed. I also disliked how it was crowded and tightly packed. Not an ideal atmosphere if you want to relax. I do not recommend this spot and advise going somewhere that is more upfront about their pricing. I will not be back to this place on principle alone. Update: it's been about 2 weeks. My nails didn't peel as much as I thought they would. There is natural lifting but they are in decent condition. I still likely will not return, however, wanted to share this to be fair. If you are ok with the somewhat impersonal, yet fast service, I think it's fine to go, but don't expect them to be too hospitable. read more

It's been a while since I've had a regular nail place in Fullerton so I've been hunting for a spot to become a regular at when I move back to town. My regular nail spot in Michigan has set a really high bar, so it's been a challenge to find somewhere that can live up to that. Captivate comes close and is so far the best of the 3 places I've tried in the area. Joseph helped with check in, and even though I didn't have an appointment I was taken care of very quickly. I only waited about 5 minutes after checking in. Tina did my pedicure (the Royal option) and Kathy did my gel manicure. Prices are reasonable, the options for pedicures are nice and I like that they have a menu with prices listed and the descriptions of the different options. My massage was wonderful, super relaxing, and Tina did a great job taking care of an ingrown toenail painlessly. Which if you've ever had one is a huge compliment. My one complaint is lack of polish colors. More options please! They do have a nice selection to help with nail art and it seems like that is one of their specialities. I also would've loved to see their sterilization protocol or the tools being taken from a sealed sterilization bag. That's a huge plus for a salon so if they could add this to what they already do I'd be super impressed. read more

I am devastated that Lyn and Eric left. When I arrived I let them know I made an appt. with Lyn and they looked at me like I was crazy and told me I could wait for her. But it was obvious the salon was under new management. I stayed and got my nails done. My toes look awful, and the girl who did them was super rude. The girl who did my manicure was sweet at least. But she made me bleed not once, but twice while trimming my cuticles and then didn't even wait for the bleeding to stop, just continued using the instruments (which is fine because they get sanitized) but she also used the polish and base coat meaning my blood touched the brushes. Which is completely unsanitary and makes me wonder how many other people's blood has contaminated their supply. She also dropped an instrument and didn't rinse it, just went right back to doing my nails. She took foooorrrreverrr. My cuticles look like they've been picked raw. Also side note pretty sure I saw a cockroach scurry under a cabinet. As far my nails go, is it the absolute worst mani/pedi I've ever had. Probably not. Is it the best? absolutely not. As far as experiences go, it's probably the worst experience I've ever had. Overall my impression is that the establishment is going to go downhill faaast. Especially if their return customers are familiar with the way things were when Lyn and Eric owned the salon. It's now unsanitary and the staff speaks to customers like their idiots. They are one of the only salons that have been able to replicate all of the nail designs I've shown my nail technicians & they tailor the design to the shape and length of my nails. My full set acrylic gel sets are thin and convenient and have no problem lasting 3-4 weeks. In addition, all the shapes and thickness of the nails are uniform which is always a huge plus. BEWARE: The color samples are COMPLETELY different from the actual nail polish color. While Captivate Nail Spa has many friendly, funny, and personable staff members, the quality of the nail services does not cut it. It even pains me to write this about a great team, but well-meaning efforts are futile if they cannot provide results. I decided to treat myself to a mani-pedi for my birthday and lo and behold, I found this place close to my work! It's got stellar reviews and I'm super eager to check it out. It was easy to book an appt and, after reading several reviews of this place (yelp elite due diligence), I request for John and my friend gets Lynn. I want a neutral color for my nails, some type of nude or grey and a mauve pink for my toes. The nail color I chose from the nail sample sticks turned out to be a lot more purple than it looked. John shows me and I ask for something more grey than that. He says he thinks the next one over looks more grey so I say I'll do that one instead. By this time, he seems irritated that I'm indecisive about the color but that's only because the actual nail polish color is NOTHING like it looks on the nail sample sticks (see photos). It was really frustrating and even my toes turned out an entirely different color (didn't want to take a photo of my toe color w the color sample stick). In the end, I had the staff look at the disparity between the colors, and John confessed the color samples are old so they might have changed. UMMMM. Are you serious? Then you should get newer ones that are more accurate. Also, the Yelp check-in deal didn't work for my full set of a gel manicure + gel pedicure. It seems deceptive because you'd think a mani+pedi would be a full set, but John stated it's for an acrylic mani. They should've just given me the $3 off since they totally screwed it up w the colors. Whatever. I still left a generous tip because of their efforts (also, a generous 2-star rating) but I definitely will not be returning. read more

The place is nice and the customer service is great but the work done was not ok. I got a foot fungus. I should've known :/ I saw her using used tools laying around in her cart! I knew they were used cause some tools had different nail color smudged on it. Fungus started showing 5 days after I had a mani and pedi. The manicure and pedicure picture is the day of . The skin peeling is 5 days after. Now I'm going to remove the nail polish to see how my real nails look :/ read more

I feel compelled to write a review about my experience here. I would like to preface this with the fact that I have been coming to this location on and off for the last 10+ years. When I came in I was shocked to find out that there was new owners since I had become very familiar with the previous owner and staff members. It had been awhile since I had been in, and with COVID I hadn't been going to get my nails done much anyways. Nonetheless, I already had an appointment scheduled at 3pm for a pedicure (with the possibility of doing a manicure) so I decided to give it a shot. I loved the color of the polish I chose and decided halfway through my pedicure I was going to move forward for with a manicure. I was going wedding dress shopping the next day, so I figured why not splurge and feel girly! I opted for gel on my toes, but thought I could get away with just the regular polish on my fingers... well, I was absolutely wrong. To be honest, I wasn't exactly happy with the Joseph who was the one doing my nails. I felt like rushed through everything, leaving polish all over my cuticles and surrounding areas. I had to ask to add an additional coat of polish since the color was very sheer and didn't look complete with just two coats. It wasn't great, but hey, I figured for $12 I'd let it go. I left and continued to go about my day. Less than 2 hours later my nails were already smudged, scratched, & peeling. I immediately called and spoke with someone over the phone. They said they were all booked and that I could come in later the next day. I explained that I wasn't able to do that and needed to be seen right away. I explained what happened and after speaking with two people was told I could come back around 6:45pm. When I arrived I asked to change the polish to gel to avoid any further mishaps and was ok with paying the additional $13. I made small talk with the girl up front and was relieved to be able to come back in. I was sat with the same guy who had initially done my nails. Again he rushed through the entire process. I stopped him multiple times asking to touch up spots he missed and asked if he could clean the additional polish left all around my skin. He kept insisting that the polish on my skin will wash off since it's not on the nail. I could tell he knew I was annoyed so he grabbed a little scraper tool and began scratching it off my skin... like, what?! I told him to stop and said I'll just do it myself when I got home. Honestly I was so inconvenienced by the entire situation. I understand that they were really busy, but honestly I just felt like I was just another number. I paid to have a service provided twice and still left feeling unhappy with my results. To me, this is the equivalent of a hair stylist leaving hair dye all over their clients forehead and face after coloring it. It's not right. I am sad to say that I will not be coming back after this experience. read more

I use to go to this salon years ago, but it took a down turn and I stopped going. I went back today hoping it had returned its old quality of service, but it is even worse. I had to file my own nails down because David had left my nails jagged and the girl who did my pedicure smudged my toe nail, she supposedly fixed it but you can still see a big smudge on my big toe.
