Capt'n Chucky's is now serving take out meals. Yeah! Everything is fresh. All you need to do is heat (maybe 15 minutes) and eat!! They have quite a few different options. There are a few frozen options available due to the season. Such as.: Clam chowder soup (pint or quart), and breaded clam balls that are to die for! Well actually, everything we have had from Capt'n Chucky's has truly been so delicious. There isn't one item we have purchased that we have been disappointed. Everything is spot on. And, the staff is so friendly! Between my first review about 2 years ago and this one, you know more of the delicious, healthy food that they carry. And, if you don't know how long to cook something, they will tell you, " 400° for 15 minutes". That is for everything - fresh or frozen - 400° for 15 minutes! Pretty easy to remember. read more

As a faithful yelper, it's hard to believe that I have not reviewed my friends at Capt'n Chucky's. When I walk in there it feels like family. The prices are reasonable, and as a Marylander their crabs are better than anything else that you can get in this area. And the Smith Island and crabcakes should be award winning. It makes me a little bit lazy because I like to make my own crabcakes but they do it so well and the price is so reasonable. I have wowed dinner parties with their food. If you can't get to Maryland and have an hankering for crab Capt'n Chucky's is the place to be ! Lump, jumbo lump, Dungeness crap etc they have it all ready to take home for ones delight! One has to unfortunately suffer as their mouth drools while they drive to their destination to reheat these scoops of Panko covered perfection.... there is no sit down service only take out! read more

We have always been happy with Chucky's in Trappe. I thought I'd get a special treat this Christmas and order two pounds of ready to eat shrimp. Twenty dollars a pound is double the usual price we pay but thought they might be better. When we picked them up they did not seem to be 2 lbs. When we got home we weighted them on two different kitchen scales, both weighing 1.5 lbs. My husband went back and they told him that they weight them before they cook and peel them. Interesting! When you buy ready to eat shrimp at other places, they weigh them prepared. Hence the reason for the additional cost per pound. Sadly, this will be the last business we do with Chucky's! I called a few weeks back and asked about the soft shells and when they would have them in. The very sweet lady said she wasn't sure because they have to wait for the crabs in MD to molt, as opposed to getting them down south. She offered to take my name and number and would call me when she got some. Sure enough, in about a week and a half later a very nice man left me a message they were in. So, of course I was putting it off and just stopped in yesterday to get a few for lunch and.... already sold out. They offered to call me again at the end of the week and now I know to get off my butt and go get them fast! So, to console myself over my lack of soft shells, I got a couple Smith Island crab cakes. O.M.G. I sauteed them in butter and sprinkled a little Old Bay on top and was completely transcended to crab heaven. I spent MANY summers at the side of my mom and grandmom as they picked crabs for homemade cakes. I was constantly getting my hands smacked, but found it totally worth it. I have to say (sorry mom, grandmom) these cakes were the best I've ever had. They barely held together in the pan from lack of filler and the lumps of meat were perfect. I never order crab anything outside of the MD shore or harbor because I'm always assaulted with round balls of ground crab with peppers and stuff jammed in it. Now I can get my fix without a 2 or 3 hour road trip. And aside from the awesome food, the owners (I think?) or staff are the nicest people. They really go out of their way for you and will find anything you want if they don't have it. Stop in, you will NOT be sorry! read more

I ordered the shrimp and crab cakes au gratin, scallops, and lobster pot pie for a special dinner with my parents. The crab cakes were easily the largest I have ever seen, and not filled with extraneous breading. They were chunky and meaty, but the melted cheese held them together nicely. They were the size of hamburgers and absolutely delicious. The scallops were breaded and baked to a golden brown, just crunchy enough to complement the tender scallops inside. I got the 20 count box and it was enough to feed 3 adults. The lobster pot pie was rich and gooey with chunks of lobster. All three came with clear baking directions so that I could re-heat them easily. This place is great - highly recommend. read more

I first found this place on my lunch break as I just started a new job in that area. I found it on Apple maps and decided to give it a try. As soon as I entered I was greeted by a polite woman and she gave me a quick tour of what they had. I must say I was very surprised in the variety. I went with the shrimp Cesar salad with crab deviled eggs and boy was it delish!!! I recently took advantage of their Mother's Day sale which consisted of picking two choices from lobster tail, snow crab, fillet mignon, crab cake, etc. for only $11.99!! Admittedly, I get my crab cakes from a place off the Chesapeake in virginia so the bar is set incredibly high but even prior to this, I don't remember being a huge fan of these crab cakes. I love their gluten free crab cakes and their gluten free New England Clam Chowder! The clam chowder doesn't skimp on the meat and potatoes if you know what I mean. Clean as a whistle, excellent customer service...and the best shrimp salad I've ever had, anywhere! I know they're known for their crab cakes, but their shrimp salad is ridiculous. Huge, flavorful shrimp in a very light dressing (not sickeningly sweet) and just a little finely chopped celery added for crunch. I prefer their Signature lump crab cakes, and the crab imperial is very, very good. Broccoli salad and grape salad are fresh and taste homemade. I'm a seafood lover so I was super excited about finding this place! Crab cakes are delicious and are all crab with barely any filling. Crab stuffed shrimp were ok - the shrimp is pretty small and buried inside of a scoop of crab imperial (maybe? Could be crab cake). I would just get another crab cake instead next time. I also got the crab soup which I was equally excited about - kind of a let down. I added a lot of salt and pepper as well as corn and then it was pretty good.
