One of the few places in the burbs where you can get actual Chinese cuisine without driving down to Chinatown. The food is always excellent, service is good, prices are good. I want this joint to stay in business, so I'm doing a long form review and trying to get the spelling right. If you're unsure what to get, just go out there and try some random dish. I've been doing that for a few months and everything's been surprisingly good. If you're terrified, the Wuxi sweet & sour chicken is closest to a General Tso, and the Kung Pao is what it says it is, but expect Sichuan peppercorns and good heat. I can recommend the guobao sweet and sour fish, the sauce is homemade and has a lovely marmalade taste. The duck hot and sour soup is nothing like Americanized Chinese food hot and sour. The dry fried eggplant is witchcraft in vegetable form. Cumin lamb is delightful and massive. Dry pot hand ripped cabbage is great. One understated option is the peking duck combos. The combo for 2 is really enough for 3, and the combo for 4 is easily a 6 way split. Oh yeah, be careful entering and exiting. 309 is unforgiving. read more

Had an amazing meal in May. Wonderful food, excellent service and full bar. This Saturday it was a different restaurant - not greeted when we walked in, and we're not allowed to wait at the bar for the rest of our party. When we finally saw our waitress and ordered drink we were told the bartender was sick so no drinks. We pressed and got wine and tequila in a wine glass. The menu is very different than it was in May. Back then, most of our food arrived around the same time and made for a table full of entrees to try. This time, dishes came out one by one so one plate was empty when another finally arrived. And a few of the items we ordered simply never materialized. I've been here 4-5 times since the restaurant opened. It started out with excellent food and service and has substantially declined since then. On my most recent visit in August 2026, I had problems with the following: They do not appear to have air conditioning in the restaurant. They did not have a bartender present, so they could only serve soft drinks, even though they have a bar menu. The scallion fried rice is white rice with bits of cooked egg and scallions in it, with no soy sauce. They recently changed their menu and some previously good menu items are now missing I ordered the mushrooms and baby bok choy entree, and received approximately an entire head of bok choy on my plate with approximately 6 halved mushrooms. The sauce, combined with the juices from the mushrooms, tasted quite bitter. read more

Had a family lunch today with seven of us and service was TERRIBLE!!! After an hour we asked about our food and it was clear the server never put our order in. It also took 90 mins just to get the two drinks that were ordered...but only after we asked 4 times for the drinks. Then they overcharged us and it took 20mins to fix the bill. Will never be back. Update: After the terrible service we left no tip (because tips are earned through good service). My dishes were good, just too much oil. I ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce and hand torn cabbage with soy sauce. All I tasted was oil especially in the cabbage dish. This would be so much better dry sautéed. The cabbage chars a little and softened under its own steam, then finish with the sauce. The eggplant dish is beautiful and tasty, yet again, so much oil. I get it, it cooks quicker, yet it really takes over and I felt like a log afterwards. This is a note to the chefs to hopefully try alternate methods of preparing the dishes. x read more

This restaurant is very nice and clean. We were seated immediately. We had everything rice- it was very good. Garlic eggplant was very good and tasty. Chicken with mint- the chicken bits were spicy. And the mint was not for me. I just brushed them off. Steamed burrata fish- the fish was very good, not dry. The only down side was, it was steamed with the fish scales on Salt and pepper shrimp- was good but the size of the shrimp was very disappointing Beef chow fun- was a bit dry, not much beef I highly recommend this restaurant. I came here for my friend's baby shower, and the restaurant really came through! Their food was served hot and delicious. And the spread was very nicely presented. I regret not taking more photos, but to be fair, it was a social event. And yes, you can host larger social events here with ample planning and reservations ahead of time. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had a lot of children and elderly with us, and the space was accessible and well lit. Ordered a large spread - sesame paste noodles, salt pepper shrimp, pork XLB, half peking duck, mongolian chicken, double cooked pork belly, combo fried rice. Probably skip the salt pepper shrimp next time. I was also expecting the sesame noodles to be cold and less spicy, but still delicious. Duck was solid. Would definitely like to come back with a larger party to try more dishes! This place is going to do so well. Not many/any restaurants in this area as authentic as this. Good variety of dishes for a wide range of palates. Service was very quick. You should probably come with a plan or idea of what you want before arriving. Restaurant seems like it's split between regular dining area and a dedicated dim sum dining area. They're still putting up decor but this space will certainly fill out. This is not your typical Chinese American restaurant. They serve some really authentic Chinese dishes, that you don't often see in Chinese restaurants, especially in this area. Be warned that the spice level is very spicy; they really should put some kind of warning next to certain dishes. We ordered delivery recently, and the food tasted good. My only complaint is that the dishes don't come with rice. Considering how pricey they are and that the seasoning leans a bit salty, rice is definitely needed. We had the tofu and beef pot dish, which had an overwhelming amount of peppercorn. It completely took over the dish, and we couldn't taste any of the individual components, making it very one-note. Certainly the best Chinese restaurant in our area. I have dined there three times. Lots of vegetarian and duck items. Only a few gluten free which I think they could improve upon by offering to use GF soy sauce for some dishes. Friendly staff. definitely best to make a reservation. We had been going here fairly regularly since opening. We went last night and menu had changed. All of the items we were used to ordering were no longer on the menu. We pivoted and ordered new things. Food was mediocre. The vegetable fried rice was white rice with broccoli- when asked if this was even what we ordered, we were told the veg fried rice doesn't have soy sauce. .... Hmmm. The pork egg rolls were cold in the middle- waiter didn't seem to care when we told him and were not taken off the bill. The people bringing food to the table, just throw it down and leave- brought wrong item to our table and we were not aware so my husband did eat some of it, and the r person bringing food saw this and still came and swooped it up and gave to another table! Heard good things so we had to try for ourselves and loved it! We used to live in the city and frequented Chinatown but honestly, Mama Chang's was better than all of our old favorite spots. It was crowded on a Saturday night so we were glad that we made a reservation to avoid the wait. Food was AMAZING, especially anything made with pork belly and the scallion pancakes were super unique so worth a try! The staff were all beyond friendly. We drove over an hour just to come here! As someone who went to college in Richmond and was a frequent eater at the original Peter Chang's, I had to try every new location they opened near me (Peter Chang KOP and Mama Chang). First off, this location is way bigger and therefore has a larger (and better, in my opinion) menu compared to Peter Chang KOP. They had the fried pork belly, which is a signature dish, and so many more entrée options. My sister absolutely loved the sweet and sour fish. She said it was 100% worth the drive. They are a little disorganized with the orders--we had to ask three times about a tofu dish we ordered. They forgot to send it to the kitchen twice, but they were busy, so maybe it was just a fluke. read more

After I realized I ordered the same item twice I called back in 1-2 minutes of placing the order and asked them to take that one item off, he refused to do so and cancelled my whole order and hung up on me without any explanation. Don't get fooled by the gimmicks. This place is awful. We arrived on time for our reservation. Before we even got seated, we were asked to put our food order in because the kitchen was going to be busy. Very odd, considering there were only 2 tables seated at the time. But we obliged and I ordered for our whole table while I still had my jacket on. I told the server that we wanted to order drinks. But before he could even comeback to take our order Appetizers were brought to the table. So apparently the kitchen wasn't backed up Food came out randomly. Whether your ready for it or not. Drinks would eventually come, one at a time over the next half hour. My pre-meal Manhattan was the last to come and they smoked it. Literally. Bartender gave me there signature old fashion instead. So, at least the food was good? Right? WRONG. Noodle and rice dishes are no better then mall food courts. And the gimmicky bubble pancake lacked any flavor and had the texture of cardboard. Very disappointing considering that Roti canai and Malaysian pancakes are one of my favorite things to eat. The sweet and sour bronzino is another gimmick. It looks great and takes time to score a fish like a checkerboard but the fish was rotten. I imagine it was laying dead, rotting away on a lukewarm table at the neighboring Assi Supermarket. It might have been a carp. One bite was the most anyone dared to try. Pork belly dish was fried pork skin. No belly. Another one bite dish. We had a couple chicken dishes and couldn't decide which one was worse. They hype up there Peking Duck and it was ok. Just ok. But it's hard to eat anything after a bite of their bronzino. It's not often that Yelp lets me down and I should know that reviews can be skewed when there are so few of them. But Damn! Will you fellow Yelpers sharpen your criticism. And if you can't tell the difference between fresh food and crappy food disguised with sweet sauces, then don't make a review. So the night ended with a pizza and cheesesteak order from a place that never disappoints. And doesn't add 20% gratuity for terrible service "Won't get fooled again". read more

We stopped by for a late lunch and the restaurant was still pretty busy which was a good sign. We ordered the fried dumplings, vegetable lomein, and vegetable chow fun. All were really fresh and delicious. The vegetables were very nicely cooked; I liked the al dente broccoli as that can often be overcooked. The flavors were good. I liked the deeper flavor of the lomein over the chow fun, but I can't turn down those wide noodles. Service was quick and very friendly. The portions, I thought, were very good! Mama Chang is a welcome addition to the local Chinese restaurant scene. The ambiance is open and airy. We especially enjoyed the dim sum and 'Chinese tapas' (small plates) selections because it gave us an opportunity to try several dishes. We ordered the Wuhan sesame noodles, the Chengdu twice cooked pork belly, and the roast BBQ pork pastry. All were delicious, but some were spicier than expected - I wish the menu indicated how spicy some of the dishes are. Next time I will ask about spiciness before ordering. We went there on a Thursday evening and had a wonderful meal with no complaints at all. The server, Miguel, was great and everyone one else who helped us. The food came out at a good pace and was piping hot and fresh. I saw others complain about the saltiness but we didn't find that and i rarely sue salt so too much and i notice. Everything was season perfectly and we will definitely be back. This is not your typical Chinese take out and they don't have a huge menu like those places. The food is amazing. The best Chinese restaurant I've ever dined . It's not at all like your typical local restaurant. The food is prepared with great care, the portions are generous and plenty to take home. The sweet and sour fish was amazing as was the Peking Duck . Matt, our waiter was so incredibly friendly, helpful and patient . My daughter and I brought her two young boys and the 7 year old loved everything!! The 5 year old loved the Tofu soup! The atmosphere is very relaxing and bright and extremely clean; just a wonderful experience. BTW: the menu has a red pepper next to any hot item. read more

Ambiance was great from what was before "Great Wall" it was modern from outside with open glasses and see through. Parking lot seems to have many cars. I didn't want to come here for special family dinner because the Chinese menus are nothing special unless you go to Chinatown. Nonetheless my family decided to go with 15 people, they have big round open table that can accommodate us sitting together. However when ordered the pecking whole duck course menu with other stuffs to choose there weren't that many choices. They didn't even have Chinese veggie nor bochoy. Any how we ordered about 10 dishes with the whole pecking duck, bill came out $800 and we weren't that full. I think we spent 3 stars michellen restaurant price with mediocre Chinese restaurant. we came on a sunday afternoon and decided on their AYCE lunch menu. the food quality was subpar, as was the way we were instructed to order. the food dishes came in massively varying sizes from a few bites to a share plate. that made it hard to determine how much to order, since our server was in charge of a large section and sometimes we'd finish the small dishes before being able to order more so chose to order more things at once. at the end our server told us that typically they charge for leftovers. which i guess is normal, but a lot of the dishes we didn't like, plus accidentally over ordering due to varying sizes of dishes, led to a bad experience. our server was nice though. read more

We wanted to try Mama Chang's after having come to Golden City many times previously. We are delightfully pleased with Mama Chang's menu, drinks, and spicy and flavorful food! The decor has also been refreshed and is really beautiful. We go to a lot of Asian restaurants in the area and Mama Chang's is our new favorite for authentic and deliciously spicy food. We tried sweet and sour fish, wonton soup, dry fried eggplant, soup dumplings and wontons in spicy oil--so good! We can't wait to try other options on the menu soon! read more

My husband and I had high hopes for this restaurant after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, we did not have a very good dining experience. We were seated right away and ordered our appetizers which were duck eggrolls and pork belly. It was no longer than 5 minutes when the appetizers were on our table. We barely started to eat, and my entree came which was the birds nest. We finished the appetizers and were waiting for my husbands meal to come (10-15 minutes later). We were able to flag down our waiter, and he went to check on why my entree came out so quickly and his never did. He came back and told us that they ran out of what he ordered. Mind you it was only 6:30. They offered us a free dessert, but we declined. We packed my food up and left. Birds nest was very bland and tasteless. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. It was truly one of the worst dining experiences we have had for years, and we dine out every weekend. Will not be returning. read more
