Delicious meal, so happy to have gluten free options! I enjoyed the pan seared halibut, which was cooked perfectly and was served with a lemon butter sauce, crispy fingerlings, and asparagus. Absolutely delicious AND gluten free! I waited 24 hours to report back since sometimes it takes a few hours for any cross contamination to hit my body... even a little bit of gluten would have made me sick by now, but I feel great so I'm ecstatic to have such a fabulous restaurant nearby that offers gluten free options. My husband had the bang bang shrimp for an app and said it was excellent tasting. Jambalaya was his dinner and it was also delish, as well as enough for an entire extra meal. Went to Chow Bistro for dinner with my wife and sons. We were celebrating my birthday. My wife having seen some decent reviews, suggested we try it since they're a short drive from home. The menu has a variety of selections, everyone will see something that appeals to them. There were a couple of dishes that caught my attention. I settled on one of their Dinner Specials...Pan Seared Sea Bass cherry tomatoes coconut sauce, spanish yellow rice, French green bean. I asked if I could substitute asparagus for the green beans, our server said that was fine. I have been eating Sea Bass many years prepared many different ways at many different restaurants. Striped Sea Bass, Chilean Sea Bass you name it I've probably had it. What I was served at Chow Bistro was not Sea Bass and was not pan seared. The (fish?) I was served had no sear on it, the consistency was that of something that had been steamed. Sea Bass is flaky, not oily and it's as thick as a prime cut steak at a fine Steakhouse. The fish? I was served was approximately 1/4-1/2 inch thick of steamed mush. It was inedible to me. Towards the end of our meal our server came to check on us, she noticed I hadn't eaten anything. She asked if I wanted a container for it and I told her that she could take it away. She asked if everything was OK. I explained to her that what I was served was NOT Sea Bass. She apologized and took the dish away. When she came back to the table she said she spoke to the kitchen. She said that they told her that what I was served was Branzino. Branzino is not a fish I order for myself, though I have tasted it. I've been to dinner with family and friends who do eat Branzino regularly. I didn't challenge what the kitchen told her. What would be the point? Our server took my dish off the bill, she asked if she could bring me something else from the menu. She did her best to try and make things right. She was very good. I left her my customary 20%+ tip. I know what Branzino looks like. I would be extremely surprised if what I was served was Branzino. Perhaps it was a type of Branzino I've never seen, locally sourced from Perkiomen Creek? With so many options for dinner, Chow Bistro will not be one of those options! Not Recommended! read more

We were placing an order via phone we wanted to order a starter dish, then was asked what salad, We took a little bit (1 minute at most) to get the answer, We were told "I have other customers, call back when your ready" then they hung up. They tried calling back, I answered and checked if someone hung up on me. they clearly sounded annoyed at the fact someone is calling to place an order. Decided to try this place for delivery on Valentine's Day since we couldn't leave our home to go out. EVERYTHING was amazing. The Seared Sea Scallops and Crab Topped Salmon were both perfect portioned and cooked to perfection. Fried Thai Chicken Dumplings were HUGE and full of favorful filling. Caesar Salad and Harvest Salad were both fresh and tasty. Everything was packaged with care and sauces were separate which was greatly appreciated!! My husband and I went out for my birthday dinner on a recent Saturday night. The place was packed! Very loud as well. We sat for quite a while before Ben, our server, came to get us water. He had a major attitude from the beginning, never greeted us or even smiled, and refused to allow us to order only an appetizer first. He told us we needed to order everything at once. When I tried to ask questions about an entree, he literally mocked me because I was using my hands to demonstrate. When I gave him a look, he just commented on how he couldn't hear me. It was incredibly rude. He chatted with another table exclusively, NEVER came to ask how our meals were, and never cracked a smile or had anything positive to say. I am not exaggerating when I say that he was the absolute WORST server I have ever had in my 64 years. He ruined what should have been a fun evening. I have been Chow Bistro twice for brunch. Neither time was a disappointment. It's BYOB, so we brought a bottle of sparkling wine for mimosa's. The inside is cute and they have movable dividers to accommodate larger parties which I think is so smart. It's a grey and white motif with some eclectic art on the walls. On my first first I ordered the huevos rancheros and this last time I ordered the avocado toast. Portions are wonderful and you will leave very full. The service has been quick and friendly. The prices are outstanding. On our first visit we had a lovely conversation with the owner and asked about hosting a party and she was flexible with what we were looking for While we didn't end up booking the party there due to factors not related to Chow, we would certainly consider them in the future. read more

Wow!! A very upscale gourmet type of a restaurant w eclectic decor! Our server, TJ, was excellent. He knew the menu inside & out. Super customer focused and an extremely attentive server. My friend and I decided on the diver's scallops. I asked if these were sea scallops. TJ told us these were U10 scallops, they were served atop delicious mashed potatoes, with fresh green beans and a tasty almandine sauce. The quality of the food was on point, the scallops were expertly cooked and delicious & sweet. For dessert we each got the vanilla bean creme brûlée. It was fantastic with some bakers whipped cream, a mint sprig & 2 blackberries. I could see the black specks of vanilla beans! I thoroughly enjoyed it! While the quality is there for sure at Chow, for me, the value isn't there for the entrees. I just can't see spending 30$ on an entree where there is no salad or bread basket. The server gave a half a piece of bread with some delicious scallion whipped butter, we weren't offered any more. My meal was 4 large scallops, some mashed potatoes and green beans. I understand that scallops are very expensive but I feel like the prices are extremely high. If I go back, it won't be for dinner, it's simply not a good value in my mind. I see this place as a special occasion dining experience. The place was jumping when we left. They must be doing very well & im glad to see that. Went for a celebratory dinner. The food was good but the service was pretty disappointing. We had a reservation and when we came in we were not greeted and were waiting in the very small waiting area. A few waiters pushed past us to get to their outside tables. Finally someone said something. He was borderline rude and not a smile or warm greeting. We thought he was a delivery person when he had ignored us waiting earlier. Inside the restaurant is small (not an issue) but there were open tables. Put us in the corner and handed us dirty, food stained paper menus. We asked to move and when we did, he waived us over with a look of annoyance. When we didn't bring the dirty menus with us, he Said "didn't you bring them?" and grunted . Taking our order, he was not nearly as polite as the prices on the menu would reflect. Again food was as good as other restaurants but service was poor and we won't be back. Versante is a few minutes from Chow and excellent. That will remain our go-to. read more

I met my sister and niece here for lunch the day after Christmas and I guess they weren't prepared for a crowd. Service was very slow but I literally think there was one waitress. She was running around like crazy and was very nice but they should have had more staff. The kitchen seemed to have trouble keeping up too. We waited a long time for our food. I had the smoked salmon sandwich. It was good, just nothing I would order again. My sister and daughter had the crab cake sandwich and they really liked it. The fries were really good too. My niece had pasta and she was not happy with it. I didn't try it but it didn't look too appetizing and she said it was less than warm. To me, it looked less than fresh, like it had been reheated. So a mixed review here. I would come again and give them another shot. The restaurant is in an old house and has a great interior so I think it's a nice place to meet friends. read more

Just had take out, as the previous reviewer said, it does take a long time for the food to go out. I made the reservation the day before for pick up at 5:30pm and didn't get mine until 6pm. There are quite a few cars waiting in the parking lot. That being said, the food is very good. We enjoyed every single dish and the quantity of each dish is more than one person can take. Dined here for lunch with a friend today. Charming little BYOB with tastefully unique decor. The music was awesome (Sinatra, jazz, etc.), albeit a bit loud at first. We were the first to arrive before the lunch crowd, so we were seated immediately. The place filled in a bit more by the time we left, but was not packed. Service was satisfactory. Our waiter was polite but not exceptionally friendly or outgoing. We had to request a refill on my water and he took his time closing out our bill at the end. No salt or pepper on the table, nor offered -- which I always find odd, but not necessarily negative. Eclectic menu options, but it all sounded good! There's something for everyone. I ordered the Shrimp and Lump Crabmeat Risotto, which was a nice portion packed with flavor, and the seafood was cooked just right. I thought the risotto was slightly undercooked -- could have gone for maybe one more minute to be the perfect al dente. My friend enjoyed the Lamb Meatloaf. Single-occupancy men's and women's restrooms, which seemed clean enough. Ample free parking in the lot just behind the restaurant. Overall, a decent experience, and I would come back. read more

This was a disappointing experience. It's an extra kick to the gut when you have the rare babysitter and just want a perfect night. The place itself doesn't really match the menu. It had weird lighting and was office-like; just far from cozy. The menu is on the fancier side, but again, it really didn't match the venue. When you're paying slightly higher prices for that type of food, you expect a full, nice experience. Our waitress was nice enough and attentive and we didn't wait too long for our food. We got two pieces of bread for the table and the portions weren't huge. The food was fine. The thing that disappointed and really annoyed me the most happened at the end of our time there. The restaurant was closed at 9 and as we were eating our dessert (at 8:50) and the last table, other than us, left the closing down process started right around us: tables were being moved and set up for the next day, waitresses started taking loud and freely about the next day's service and getting out for the night, and the back got loud with shutting up shop. We felt very rushed and uncomfortable at this point. In fact, it ruined the entire experience. We inhaled our dessert and got out as soon as possible. My last visit to this restaurant was in 2020 at the height of COVID. Understandably that experience was average at best. However, I finally got back there last night with my two boys. Our dinner was fantastic! It was a beautiful night and we sat outside. All the food was amazing starting with warm rolls and garlic butter. We had the fried calamari and hot crab dip appetizers which were both delicious. Calamari was very tender and served with two different tasty sauces. They have you order all the food at once and it was a slight ly longer wait for our main course. Otherwise, I thought the service was attentive. Our server wasn't overly friendly but I was just enjoying my boys so I didn't really care. I had the scallops, my son had the crab topped salmon, and my other boy got the Fra Diavolo special. We all raved about our meals! They each had the flourless cake with a peanut butter whipped cream dessert that of course I had to grab a few bites of, haha. Amazing!! It was a really wonderful meal! Wow what a great lil find! Passed this cute eatery on my way to walking the Perkiomen trail and thought this is where I want to go for brunch after my hike. So glad I did! So many great choices to choose from but I settled for the jumbo lump crab cakes and mind you there was nothing settling about it. It was loaded with lots of lump crab perfectly browned resting on a bed of flavorful roasted corn. Honestly everything on the menu looked super good and even better in person! I was drooling over the fluffy pancakes and side of perfectly cooked bacon strips that passed my table. My friend got the bistro omelette which was jam packed with filling! We recently had as bad an experience as you can have when out to eat. For the second time in a month, we had what has to be the absolute worst service at what used to be a very good restaurant. This guy must be a family member as there is no way anyone would keep him. We tried to give him a second chance, but he was worse than the first time.
