I took the car to another shop the next morning, and they told me the issue was simply a worn ball joint. They fixed it within a few hours that same day for $465. The car is now driving perfectly. That's a significant difference in both scope and cost. I'm not going to speculate on intent, but I will say this: based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before approving any major repairs here.
