My car battery died while I was at physical therapy at Fyzical in Naperville. My PT suggested Carx, whose parking lot is adjacent to the parking lot I was in, about 50 yards across the parking lot. They wouldn't help me. They would sell me a battery, but they wanted me to find a way to get the car into the shop. They refused to send someone 50 yards to help me. The price they quoted to me was inflated, because they knew I was helpless. We got a battery at Costco for $100 less. This was 4 days before Christmas. I am a disabled senior citizen. A friend was able to help me or I would have been in desperate shape. My PT said that it's too bad. Carx had an opportunity to do a real good work here, but they did not. read more

I strongly recommend steering clear of this place. I purchased a set of new tires with a 55K mile warranty on them in November 2017. Less than one year later, and with just 16K miles driven on the tires, the tread on the tires is worn to the point where they need to be replaced. Sounds like a warranty issue, right? Wrong. Or at least according to the Car-X store manager Angel. He says he will not submit a warranty claim unless I agree to buy new struts for my car, claiming that Goodyear won't honor the warranty and that it is required by Goodyear. That makes no sense and is completely unacceptable. Stay away from here. Discount Tires is right across the street. Go there, instead. read more

Clunk, clunk, grind, grind. Those are the sounds that send panic into the hearts of many car owners. Unfortunately, I heard that the other day on my Steve (Yes, my car has a name.) So first thought that pops in my head is "how much will this cost?" and "I don't want to get screwed over." Well I started my search early and got several different prices. I settled on Car-X because the price was fair and it had a guarantee (Yes I know about guarantees thanks to Tommy Boy: "Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside. Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****." ) Their prices weren't dirt cheap but rather competitive with the other shops. Plus the shop manager didn't seem like I was wasting his time by asking the price over the phone. Anyway, I go down there and they were able to get me right in without any hassles. I was convinced I needed new rotors, but the shop manager actually talked me out of it. Now how many times does that happen? It's usually the other way around considering rotors are a more expensive product. I give them kudos for saving me money. I also appreciated that I was shown what was wrong and the new parts going on my little baby. Very customer orientated! I also give them another plus for the fast service. I said no thank you and did some research and found a lot of good reviews for this car-x location. Called them and talked to Asst. Mgr. Brad who said what he thought it probably was and estimated a repair cost under $400. Brought the car in, he was right, and it cost $319 total to fix it. I found Brad to be very knowledgeable and, most importantly, very honest. If you're looking for the same, I would highly recommend them and Brad. Went to another local auto service provider who wanted over $1,000 to replace the entire exhaust system in my 12 year old van. I declined and went to these guys and they came up with a more practical solution that costs $83 and did it in under and hour with no appointment. DO NOT GO HERE. I posted previously that we had to go back three times to fix the oil pan that CarX installed - turns out they either completely ruined the gasket or put a bad one on - my husband went to fix it and it was completely shredded. In addition, when I first bought my car I had new tires put on from Car X - only to find out last week that the "new" tires I bought from them were old. I would not recommend this place to anyone, dishonest and do not stand by their work. My dad used to go there all the time, but seems like the new management is not trustworthy. I have lived in this area for 12 years and this Car-X location has served four different cars through the years. Now that we are moving out of state, I am sad that I will have to start from scratch to look for a new reliable, affordable and quality-driven repair shop. Many of the mechanics (Ian, Jake) I have become familiar with and they are extremely knowledgeable and go the extra mile to help and give you straight answers. They have never tried to sell us services we didn't need, yet they always knew that we appreciated when they told us of issues we found. We bought tires for all of our cars there - included in that price are free tire rotations (and minor tire repairs). Oil changes are affordable and prompt - one time I went to a Jiffy Lube and trust me, regretted it. We truly felt that we were valued customers. We will miss you, Car-X of Naperville! read more

I initially took my car in for an oil change, and with every oil change, they do a free inspection on the car. They do so and they point out that I need a new front passenger side ball joint, a new back driver side brake drum, among a couple other things. Brad was nice enough to run up some estimates and told me to feel free to call Phil for any questions or to schedule an appointment. I call Phil on Friday and let him know that I'd like to bring my car in for the repairs. I ask if Monday at 2:30 would work, he says that if I bring it in that late, that I wouldn't get the car back till the next day. I the offer to bring it in at 8:30 in order to get it back the same day. I Uber for a living so I need the car back as soon as possible. He says that's fine. I bring the car in at 8:30 on Monday, leave my keys with them, and go on with my day. Fast forward to 4:30 pm, I get a phone call from them, eager to have my car finally repaired, as I had known it needed work done prior, and Phil says to me that "we had a look at the car" and that they're having trouble getting the parts. Basically, they literally told me what needed to be done, had what needed to be done in their system, I called them giving them advance notice days before I was coming in, and this clown calls me after a WHOLE DAY of just staring at my car with their thumbs up their asses to tell me that they didn't do shit on my car, and that they didn't get the necessary parts needed for the repairs at any point in the two full days after I confirmed my Monday appointment. I'm not sure if this can be chocked up to incompetence or just sheer lack of professionalism, but either way, I'm not stepping foot into this place ever again. I had been going to this location for years. Brought my car in and had a radiator flush, a couple of weeks later my water pump went out. They were not able to repair the water pump due to lack of tools. I took the car back to the dealer and they repaired the car. After repairing the water pump the dealer found a part that car x had broken and after my car was fixed I took it back to Car x. I spoke to the manager Ian and he was suppose to call me back. It has been it has now been 8 days since and I had to call their corporate number. Only to find out that the manger lied to his boss about what he had told me and they will not make it right for a good customer. Come in for an oil change and having them destroy my vehicle. The manager here will look you in the eyes and straight up tell you lies. Standing outside directly in front of my vehicle. I'm watching them take a hammer to my right front axle. They did this last time at the Elgin location, when we came in for an oil change. We heard a very loud hammering noise. Never had a alignment issue till then. This time at the Naperville location I saw and heard it for myself. Turns out the new manager here (naperville) also trains all the others in Elgin and other location. Train them how to break things and upsell on things we don't need. I bought four brand new tires already this week from another location. He was trying to sell me 4 tires I don't need, claiming I do. Said it was going to cost me over a thousand. I just want an oil change. Stop breaking my vehicle on purpose. After bringing my car in yesterday, I left with hearing an abnormal loud squeak and feeling steering wheel pull to the right. Shady and dishonest practice never goes a long way. Now I have it recorded. I took my car to the dealership shortly after. Turns out the oil & filter was never changed and I will be getting a full diagnostic today from the dealership. Also in the report car x said the filter was dirty and falling apart? I've only been to Car X for oil changes. They had me sign up for a Drive Card and by doing so, I was offered the next 10 oil changes for $9.99, $15 total.. which I will no longer be using. Unethical practices that cost more than the $5-$10 we think we are saving but we are not. Ends up costing us our lives. read more

So far they've been good. Not ripped me off like some of the other auto care chains(or if they have I haven't noticed ;) ) probably because the person at the front desk is polite :). You are never pressured into buying extra services or packages and what not. Service quality has been decent and they have a lifetime warranty on the work that they do. I recently got the brake rotors and pads done from these guys and the price was much better than getting it done from a dealer. I think I will continue to go here for scheduled maintenance only. My only complaint is they've not been able to diagnose a suspension related sound that my car has been having. read more

I went in based upon convenient location and the positive yelp review. I gave up on my last mechanic because it became apparent they were pushing for services that weren't necessary. I thought I needed new brakes, due to a change in how they sounded. I expected to spend at least a couple hundred bucks. Too my surprise, the shop owner called me 20 minutes after dropping off the car and said my brakes are in great shape and no need to replace them. So, I spent $40 on an oil change and air filter and left completely satisfied. They even gave me some advice on a couple used cars I'm considering. This rip off place changed my parts cost they were charging me for converter bolts which cost 15.00 dollars at Advance auto to 80.00 dollars for bolts. I had an agreed price for labor and the manager Peter decided to change the cost on me. He is a dishonest person and I made him refund money back to me. Stay clear of this place or use them at your own risk. Go in there and get a quote for exhaust work or whatever they will rip you off to the max. Ian was honest in his assessment of my tires, saying I still had a few month's life left in them, and even took the time to show me some of the things he looks for when evaluating tires. On top of that he quoted me a few hundred dollars less for new tires than the competitor down the street. I have nothing but praise for the repair crew at this Car-X. I worked primarily with Ian, but everyone there was professional and courteous, and my car was repaired in record time. The repairs themselves were affordable, and I feel confident in the information Ian shared with me about the immediate problems and general maintenance. Specifics: I'm from out of town, about two hours south of Chicago, and my car started making a rattling/jingling sound upon arriving in Naperville. I looked around on Google and Yelp for nearby car repair shops and saw the good reviews for this Car-X. I gave them a call and they let me know I could just stop by without an appointment. I described the issue to Ian and one of the guys took the car for a quick spin around the block to get a sense of the issue. They quickly diagnosed that the alternator was actually working its way loose. The screws were coming out and spitting metal shavings all over the engine compartment. Ian actually invited me back into the garage and showed me the alternator casing so I could verify it myself. I've had guy repair guys be condescending about this sort of thing, but Ian was completely professional and helpful. After a quick conference, we agreed on replacing the whole unit with a re-manufactured alternator, and Ian gave me a time estimate. He offered to arrange a ride for me so I wouldn't have to wait, but I had a friend nearby. I definitely appreciated the option, though, considering I was an out-of-towner. Ian's estimate of 90 minutes was dead on, and they called when the car was ready. I thanked everyone and let them know that while I didn't expect to ever need their services again, I'd consider the Car-X folks back home the next time I had an issue. While normally that would be the end of the story, my car decided that this was the week it would finally start complaining about the harsh winter it'd been through. Later that same evening, after the shop was closed, the car started juddering and bucking when idle. It was pretty inconsistent, and it matched symptoms of a bad batch of gasoline. After awhile, the "Service Engine Soon" light came on, so that changed my plans for heading home first thing in the morning. The next day, I took the car right back to Ian and his crew. They quickly diagnosed a failing ignition coil. Ian helped me debate the pros and cons of waiting to repair it after I got home, and I landed on having Car-X handle that repair, too. Again, they were efficient and thorough, letting the car idle for awhile to make sure that the new coil had fully addressed the issue. This is the most positive experience I've ever had with a car repair place, and that includes my regular shop at home.
