Would not recommend CarX and their parent company Monroe. They do not take care of their customers, Monroe is the parent company and handles the customer disputes. We were extremely lucky not to have had a terrible accident. Our vehicle slid off the highway in the rain, we were lucky not to strike another vehicle or any other obstructions. We went to CarX for an oil change and tire rotation. During the rotation, a broken rear spring was found. They needed to order new springs and shocks. Two days later they replaced both rear springs and shocks and said they would do an alignment, I understood and agreed. Several months later we had a flat rear tire while traveling on the interstate. During the change of the flat, we noticed both rear tires are ruined no tread left on the inside of both tires and wires protruding. We drove to the nearest Goodyear store to get two new tires. We were told that the alignment on the vehicle was way off, there was no wonder why the vehicle wouldn't have traction on wet pavement. The tread on the front tires, very good. When the technician checked the alignment, he suspected that it hadn't been down by how far off everything was. When we got home and checked our invoice, we weren't charged for an alignment. I went back to CarX, which is now under new management and a new crew, and they agreed that the tires showed an alignment problem and that it should have been done. There is nothing they can do, I have to call corporate. I call and I get Monroe, after being on hold for awhile of course, and get a service personnel. I explain the situation, she puts me on hold again, and comes back and says there is nothing they can do because they didn't do an alignment, they aren't responsible for the bad alignment. I was told that they where going to do the alignment, so I trusted them, I didn't check the invoice, so it is my fault. The total bill for the two days was over $500, I thought that was enough. Monroe tells me that there is nothing they can do. I tried to tell her it is a SAFETY issue. She said there is nothing they can do. I replied, "Yes, there is something you can do you just won't." The costumer personnel reminded me that I don't work for Monroe and I couldn't tell her what to do. After a few more words from her, she said she was going to disconnect and she did. Several months ago I took my Honda CRV to Car-X in Peoria Illinois. We have used Car-X and their coupons for many years but the place has become less and less appealing over the years. The desk person is always friendly. We have noticed that they are having trouble getting or having employees to do the job out in the shop. So this is my complaint, my coupon said an oil change and free tire rotation which is what we always used. But I began wondering with the rush they have in the shop with only one man working back there, that if they really rotated my tires every time I took the car in. So this time we marked the tires so we would know, and just as we suspected the tires had not been rotated. We called them and finally got them to call us back and they said that they didn't need rotating. Now I specifically told them I wanted my tires rotated and they said they would. Why wouldn't they have told me when I was paying that they did not do it, I feel like they were deceptive and when they don't have time to do that job they don't do it and let you believe that they do. I will not go back to Car-X, if you can't trust the place how do we even know they're using the quality oil they're telling me you're getting. I paid extra for the best quality oil and I hope I got it but who knows? Trust in a business is so important still today, and when you can't trust what they say, you can't go back. read more

NO STARS for this location. I arrived at the Car X in Normal on Towanda on 10/24/22 for brakes and rotors. I was told that my wheel bearing on the front right needed to be replaced and the total would be $1100.00 to fix. I then asked how much would it be to only replace the brake pads/rotors. He told me $525 out the door. I asked him why was the price so high, he stated Infinity parts are much more expensive. I turned around to look at my vehicle that was raised on the lift and my front tires were still on the vehicle. I asked myself how did they properly inspect my brakes and wheel bearing with my tires on the entire time? I asked the technician about it and he said, his buddy used his tool gauge to measure everything so the tires didn't need to come off. Can you say shady! Now I've done business with Car X for over a decade in Peoria and I've never paid over $400 for brake's including rotors. I told the technician to lower my vehicle and that I wont get anything done at this time. I guess the technician was mad because he handed me my keys without giving me the brake inspection and estimate. I had to ask for it and in pure fashion of a shady technician he didn't give me the $1100 estimate he quoted me earlier, but he handed me the inspection form only. Fast forward to today 10/3/22, I just left CarX in Peoria... $370 out the door with a coupon!!!! AVOID CAR-X ON TOWANDA in Normal, IL... I couldn't be happier. I was driving down I-55 on my way back from Chicago, and as I passed over a bridge just after the junction near 355, I bounced my undercarriage on the road as I came downhill. I heard a rattling as I pulled off to get gas, and figured it sounded a bit like a part of the exhaust. At first, I called a different (big, popular, no names mentioned..) shop in Bloomington to see if they'd see me today, and if they could provide an estimate. They were being very difficult ("maybe we can squeeze you in, but we can't give an estimate till you're here... Yes, we know you think it's the exhaust, but we still can't give you a quote.." and so on), so I called Car-X instead. The shop mechanic answered the phone and told me they could see me right away. I brought my car in 30 minutes later, and a mechanic walked up right as I pulled up and told me he can hear my heat shield rattling. He tapped it to make sure, and just like that, they diagnosed the problem even before I gave them my keys. They found a few extra bolts that would re-fasten my heat shield, and were able to re-fasten it in less than 10 minutes. I decided to stay for an oil/air filter change and tire rotation (I was ~200 miles overdue, and it was time). Altogether, I spent just over $60 for everything altogether with standard oil and filter + rotation & the heat shield. I waited only 30-40 minutes total, from pulling in to the driveway to pulling out. No complaints! Good, honest, and FAST service. 10/10 read more

What you need to know: 1. This used to be Jiffy Lube. I loved it back then because the guys that worked there were awesome and hooked me up since I was in college. Saved me from Suds more time than I could count. 2. Now they are Car X. The prices are higher. The service is fine. I miss the old guys I knew. 3. Waiting room is lame, but its an oil change waiting room, I'm not looking for luxury. Don't drink the coffee and magazines are heavy on the testosterone. 4. There are probably cheaper places to get an oil change. I feel like they are always trying to upsell me on something else. It gets the job done, I just wish the job got done better. I've been coming to this Car-X location for over a decade, and while faces may change, the quality does not. As someone that's not very educated car-wise, it's great to come to a place that you can trust to give you honest information and facts about your car without worrying about being taken advantage of; I would not keep coming back time after time if that was the case. Today I had an oil change and tire rotation, standard six thousand mile service. While it took a little longer than normal (about 90 minutes instead of the 60-75 I was expecting), the technicians were up front with me about the wait time and the cars ahead of me; I knew about the wait from the start. The technician was even able to shuffle the cars around to get me in a little sooner, which was awesome. Overall: I highly recommend Car-X. They've always been friendly and honest, and they know what they're doing. read more

They have also upgraded their waiting room, now including a big comfy couch and a television, just cleaner in general. Car-X and Davis Tire and Auto are related - may have the same ownership. I can NOT recommend these shops for service due to integrity issues. You will find this same review for both shops. 1. My wife was told an air conditioning filter needed to be replaced when she took our Highlander in for an oil change. I read in our manual that the only required maintenance is to vacuum the filter. This happened at the Car-X location. Wasted $$$ 2. Oil change for our Highlander which requires synthetic oil is close to $100. Oil change at the Toyota dealer is $40. Manager said there is no way that is true. We called and confirmed with Toyota dealer. Wasted $$$ 3. We have purchased 2-3 sets of tires from Davis. Also purchased maintenance for repairs and rotation. Their computers crashed and they lost customer files. They tried to charge us for a tire repair. My wife indicated we had the plan purchased with tires. They indicated they had no record so we had to pay. Went out to the glove box and produced a receipt. They added us back into database. My wife hates to go there now. We will pay for service elsewhere. This happened at the Davis location. Poor customer service and relations. 4. We have had cars detailed. That experience has been fine. This is at the Car-X location. read more

I've been bringing all my cars here for 5 years. Normally get knowledgeable experienced service. Today they couldn't figure out if they put in Synthetic or regular. WTF!!! They charged me to fix an issue but after one day I saw too much grease on left tire and still had the same issue i got back to ask them to fix it manager after checking asked me to pay another $700 I didn't pay and took my truck to another mechanic shop they said car'x did wrong and they have to fix my truck for free as I paid them for . Today I went there again and manager even didn't let me to talk and told me I have to leave the property. I chose this store because it was very close to my home. i already know that they do not do a great job but also I overpay, I would be okay with that if they would just try their best but recently while they were changing my water pump they messed up with something which directly affect windshield spray system and indirectly affected cooling system but they do not take the full responsibility and told me that i can order the equipment and they can do the labor for free which is unacceptable and not fair. I will never ever drop by this places again and I highly suggest you to take your car to dealership or some other reliable places where you can get better service with same or less expensive but definitely you will be get a better taking care! read more

I had an oil change done on my 04 Toyota Corolla on 6/19/18 at 5:15 PM. I watched K. Duncan the "Manager" claim my system (oil plug, oil filter) was sealed from above the bay..... how can you see my oil filter and oil plug from above the car? 04 corollas filters are below the engine. I then watched K.Duncan try and close my hood with the prop rod still up making a loud noise before he corrected his mistake and lowered the rod........ I then had to walk back in and correct my sticker which was written for only 2,000 miles instead of 3,000 and to top of the experiance K. Duncan put oil finger prints all over my receipt. read more

Sent my son in with a car we are managing for a friend. We had scheduled a semi-synthetic oil change and physically showed the coupon we had printed out to make it clear. The salesman "down-sold" him, asking if he wanted the "less expensive" oil, thus negating the benefit of the better oil with the better price. This also will require the next oil change sooner. If I could give 0 stars I would. Yesterday I went to another shop who said a wheel bearing needed to be replaced, but they didn't have time to do it because I came at the end of the day (reasonable). So I called around and Car X said they could do it cheaper than the other place in two hours. Brought it in today and all the sudden my original $350 charge was going to be $1000. Car-X claimed the pulsing find just the wheel bearing and had to buy the whole assembly. Then they said it needed a few other things including an oil change. I asked why I would need an oil change since I just had it done last month. All the sudden they "realized" they "mistakenly" added an oil change from another vehicle. I never even mentioned an oil change to them. I was recommended to go to Twin City Auto in Normal and they were able to take car of it in less than an hour for $260ish. They did successfully install my tires, so I'm giving 2 stars. However, I dropped my van off for my scheduled tire installation appointment. They said they'd call back when it was ready, so I left to run a few errands. My phone died so I decided to head back an hour and a half later, certain they would have finished and tried calling by now. I was quite disheartened to find see they hadn't even started, even though I had an appointment and it wasn't busy! The guy in front told me he yelled back to them to start the tire installation but they didn't hear him. I don't know how they normally assign work, but yelling back to mechanics to start scheduled assignments was perplexing to me. Why he hadn't followed up with them during the next hour and half is equally as perplexing. But what was most frustrating is that he didn't seem to care or see this as a customer service failure. I was on the highway on my way home to St. LOUIS, MO from Chicago, IL when suddenly my "check oil" light came on. I was alone and not very knowledgeable about cars. While they offered to "fix/repair" issue I was in a hurry to get home to work. They asked a few questions about symptoms, et al and determined that I should be able to safely make it home. They topped off the oil at no charge and sent me on my way. I suspect this could have been a very different issue had I stopped elsewhere. As I was waiting Kris came out and said that the mechanic found out that no maintenance was needed on my vehicle. I have been going to CarX for about 5 years every 6 months. I think the guys are very helpful and friendly. I know very little about cars, but have never been taken advantage of there. Every time I get an oil change although they always let me know what things I need to replace, but they are never pushy or make me feel like I have to. They simply state what I need to know. They get you in and out in about 30 minutes if not a logn wait. They also are not that expensive and after every 5 oil change you get a free one! Not too bad! read more

Do not use these guys. Took a flat tire in to have fixed. They said that they would be unable to fix the flat because the hole was too close to the rim. They would be happy to sell me a $130 replacement tire though. Took the flat tire to SAMS Club. Sam's was happy to fix the flat for FREE!!! Even though I did not buy the tire from Sam's to begin with. Sam's had no trouble fixing the flat that CARX said could not be fixed. read more

Wife and I went in for a oil change for her Prius. A month later we're still waiting for a new engine to be put in. Someone made a mistake and oil flooded the engine. Be very careful going here. Your better off going to Meineke just down the road. They never offered a refund. We paid $70 for them to ruin our engine. Not only did they order the wrong part twice, they charged me for the labor time that was wasted waiting for the new rotor to come in. Secondly I did some research when I got home and saw that they marked up the price of my parts by 30 dollars each which ended up making my bill 300 dollars more. This is the only place we go to get our oil changed. They are fast and don't push super hard to get you to buy extra services beyond what you've come in for. And I've found the service to be excellent. Last week after receiving service there was an issue with my air filter. However, one of the mechanics was so dedicated to helping me out that she helped me at my own home so my car was fixed! I do not know many businesses at all that have that level of dedication! I was very appreciative. It showed me that quality and excellent customer service was important to the person I was working with. I'm happy to have found Car X. They gladly let you get a part somewhere else for a cheaper price, and just charge you labor to install it. This allowed me to save $450 on a hub assembly I needed replaced. Also, rather than having me wait an hour for the shuttle driver to return, they let me have a loaner car to drive to work immediately. That's something even expensive dealer shops won't do for you. And that's despite only getting a small, labor-only job done. I'm definitely impressed with the service here, and will return for more. read more

I've had oil changes done here several times as well as more substantial repair work (brakes, suspension). Each time the service has been good and the repairs have been completed in a timely manner. The salesman can be a little pushy about preventative maintenance, but no real complaints. The price has been fair. It may be a bit more than other places, but I've not had to go back and have more work done on the same part. There is a discount for ISU students (it isn't much but it's something). read more

The employees here can be very lazy, especially if you have a coupon. I went there a few times and I knew it should be time to flush my transmission fluid, so I asked them about it on more than one visit and they said it looked fine. Then finally one day they said it should be done and probably should have been done a while back. On a different occassion I had a coupon for a free tire rotation with an oil change. Based on my mileage I knew it was time for a tire rotation but they insisted I didn't need one. I went straight to another business and they measured my tires and said that it was in fact time for a rotation. Just makes me wonder what other maintenance issues they ignore. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place! The customer service is amazing and very honest! We've used them for tires and oil changes for all of our cars for the last 8 years. They are very friendly and knowledgeable; especially in the last two years. I think they must be under new management, because they really go above and beyond. Just last week I had an incident with my brand new car that was only 2 weeks old. A gas pump island jutted out so that when I turned after getting gas, it ripped the hub cap off the tire damaging both the tire and wheel and hub cap. I took it to the dealership first, where they quoted me a price of $470 ($590 if I wanted a new hubcap too). I went to Car X for a 2nd opinion and the manager agreed the quote at the dealership was really high, so he researched and made calls right in front of me. They did it for $300 . . new tire, new wheel, labor, tire disposal and free alignment check. Thank you Car X!!! I will never go anywhere else! read more
