I called due to my under car splash shield falling loose while driving from Wisconsin to Arizona. I didn't get the name of the employee but they told me to come in and they'd fit me in to get me back on the road. When I got there he greeted me and was so friendly to me and my dog. They had me out and back on the road within 15 minutes. I don't live nearby to make this my mechanic but it I did I would but I do recommend them to any one passing though or lives in the area! read more

DO NOT TAKE YOU VEHICLE to Tuffy Tire & Auto Service Center in Bloomington, IL whose actual corporate name is JB Newbanks Inc. Terrible service and the manager is extremely rude, unprofessional, dishonest and has no accountability. Tuffy removed a plastic shield component under the vehicle to perform an inspection which is attached with 24 plastic clips and returned the vehicle with only 4 of the 24 clips reinstalled (ie. failed to reinstall 20 of the 24 clips) which caused the plastic shield to drag on the ground upon leaving Tuffy. The manager refused to correct the problem, refused to install the 20 clips that Tuffy removed and failed to reinstall and hung up the phone. read more

Walked in and asked about draining refilling and changing the transmission oil in my 2017 F150. The guy at the counter immediately says "that transmission is junk and I won't touch it" I asked you won't drain and fill the transmission? Again he says I won't touch it. I said ok I have been a customer here for over 15years with different vehicles I guess I need to find another shop. This guy was rude and I didn't ask for his option about my truck! I would not recommend at all . Had new brakes put on in February of 2024 and within a week they were squealing again , took it back multiple times and told nothing was wrong , fast forward to December of 2024 and guess what they are squealing louder than before , not sure what kind of crap brakes they buy or the mechanic doesn't know how to fix brakes. read more

I visited your place of business for an oil change on August 12, 2021.  That evening, I noticed fresh oil stains on my garage floor. It's been dripping since August 12th within hours of my oil change...and yet your general Manager offered the following explanations: 1. Could be leaking from another spot and somehow making its way to the bottom of the drain plug. I noted the sheer impossibility of oil flowing upwards. Impossible...oil does not "jump" from one location to the drain plug and start dripping from there. 2. Could be "blowing" back from "somewhere else" and creating stains. Impossible...there is no wind in my garage. I then proceeded to show video of the active drip while parked in my garage and then the explanation changed to... 3. We didn't provide the drain plug used in the oil change. It must have been the company that provided oil change in February of 2020 based upon your Carfax research. This is not even close to accurate and I have the documented proof...which doesn't matter because your staff seem determined to talk about everything, but the drain plug which is where the visible leak is coming from. As you saw from the photos/video...the drain plug assembly is as shiny as new penny...no visible deterioration, or dust...anywhere. See photo...I've also got video shared with you. I'm quite certain your technician over-torqued the drain plug...stripped the plug threads...causing seepage...and yet you asked me to pay for a "dye" test to determine the source of the leak...which you can clearly see dripping from the drain plug. I don't take to writing poor reviews...or quite frankly...never written a review...but after the continuous lob of wild theories provided by your operation, I can't help but believe...i'm not your only customer suffering similar fate. As such, I will work diligently on behalf of my issue and others who feel helpless and hopeless against big corporations/franchisees in which we entrust hard earned dollars and to be caretakers of our property. In fairness, your folks are nice people (Russ and Tanna). In practice, you have an obvious culture that permits this type of 'inaction' and deflection at the customers expense. You should know...it's bad for business and bad for consumers willing to pay what we owe for services rendered. I'm disappointed that you have explored every wild theory imaginable when the answer is so obviously in front of our faces...and recorded on video. Should you respond to this post, I fully expect you to offer alternative theories and deflections; however, nothing changes the fact that my oil was not dripping onto my garage floor until the very hour after you rendered service and continues as of the date of this post. That you would deflect and pivot from such an obvious fact...is disappointing and should be disturbing to anyone who has the same experience. I remain committed to reconciling this matter. This place is absolutely amazing!!! I was passing through town and had a vibration in the front end of the vehicle. I wanted the front tires balance, but did not have a lot of time to wait due to having another 600 miles to drive for a family emergency. They got me in, inspected the front end to make sure everything was in good shape, and then balanced the tires. Car rides like a dream now. The guys at the desk were super friendly. As I was sitting in the waiting room, I heard them talking to other customers. They were very professional, and did not try to "up sell" anything to their customers. If you're a college student, I don't recommend going here. They try and hit you with a bunch of unnecessary repairs when you simply ask them to look at a specific part of your vehicle. A complete brake job would've costed me $1200 here compared to another place I went to that used the exact same parts and only charged me $500. My friend had a similar situation where he went in Durban oil change and they ended up charging him nearly $450. Staff was friendly, but then again, who isn't when they're trying to sell you something? read more

My engine was making a noise and had taken to few other places. They either didn't do engine work or were too booked to do the work. I decided to check out Tuffy's. I also told the guy that I was thinking of having my muffler checked out too. I dropped my car off so they could inspect it. Later that day, one of the guys calls to ask if it's ok if I leave the car overnight. Yeah, sure. He told me they would call when they knew what was going on. I waited all day the next day with no call. Finally near the end of the day I gave them a call but the car still wasn't ready. Luckily I had these days off so I wasn't really in need of my car. The next day, they gave me call and said that they took my engine apart and they think it might cost around $2,000 to fix. Ok. I had to pass because It was not worth putting that much money into the car. I came in and the bill was around $800. I look at the bill. Well, even though the engine was shot, they fixed my muffler. You'd think they would have saved that until after checking the status of the engine. But hey, I guess I should try to think how awesome it is that car I can no longer drive doesn't make a horrible exhaust sound. Since the engine was shot I only got a couple hundred dollars when I traded it in. Update: Try to harass you into giving them a 5 star review. read more

Not a professional. Looted my money. I gave the vehicle to service and Tuffy said it's not possible to look in to it for next 3 to 5 days. I called twice to confirm the status, they said they are busy with other scheduled work. Once I asked the tow guy to take my car to other service center, then tuffy guy said, We did the diagnostic but they are not ready disclose the issue and demanding 131$ as a diagnostic fee to release the car from their place. So this is not fair without doing diagnostic and they charged 131$. I won't recommend to anyone. read more

So the oil change and tire rotation that would have cost me about $45 dollars over at the Mazda dealership only cost me $20 here! AND there's a keurig coffee machine in the waiting area... yes! They found that my Mazda's stem valves had severe corrosion and suggested I go to Mazda to see if they would be replaced under warranty (which Mazda would not do even though my car is only 3 years old... but that is for another review) I liked that Tuffy didn't try to make the sell to have me have this replaced with them right away. They told me straight up what they'd found and suggested I go where I could get the best deal on the repair. They even took me to my car to show me the parts! Best yet, I get back into my car and find a pink carnation sitting on the dashboard. Who says oil changes and car service has to be an expensive and miserable experience? I initially went to Tuffy's because I found a coupon on pantagraph.com for an oil change and tire rotation for $20. I had to call to make an appointment - don't just expect to show up. They spent some time looking over my car and suggested I get my transmission fluid changed in the near future. I decided to go back to them to have this done a few weeks later and they found another repair that needed to be made. Were they jerking me around? It's impossible for me to say because I don't know jack about cars. The repair seemed very plausible and I gave the green light to fix it. They seem like good people so I'm trusting them until I have reason not to. Omg!!! I just had the best experience ever! My car had a flat tire and I happen to be near by Tuffy, so I pulled in and asked if someone could patch up my tire or something. The manager, Russ, said unfortunately they don't do patch work but he came out and took a look at the tire and said the tire is done and it will need a new tire. He then offered one of his techs, Tim, to put the spare tire on right there then. Tim noticed that my spare tire had very low air pressure (cause the spare has been sitting in my trunk for 12+ years), he filled it up so I can take it to wherever I originally purchased my tire at. Called corporate 3 times, and the owner Brandon has not been in touch with me yet the technicians tell me he knows what's going on. Jason, the manager is a real treat and will not take the fault for any of their mistakes. Fix it right or it will be free is completely is a FALSE slogan. Small emergency here. These guys (Jason and the nice lady there) allowed me to come in with only 45 mins before closing shop because I was on a trip from Chicago to Quincy and had my family with me (little kids) to diagnose an issue with my air conditioning (2014 Audi Q5). It was 90F outside. Jason quickly moved some things around and were ready to go when I arrived. He started working, and I could see what he was doing through the glass in the lobby area. I am pretty knowledgeable about cars, having rebuilt engines and transmissions, among many other repairs on various cars, so I know quickly when I smell BS. There was no BS here, just straight talk. They ran an AC diagnostics test and came back to me within about 25 mins with the result. At this point, my car's AC was low and needed a re-fill (8 of 22oz of refrigerant was present). Went from 61F of cool air to 46F. I was back on the road in under an hour, my little kids and wife aren't sweating on the trip home, and Jason took care of us. read more

I had a coupon from an ISU coupon book to come here for a $20 oil change. I normally I do oil changes myself but didn't have a garage to do it at down here at school. I waited in the waiting room for over an hour and had to tell the desk lady my address, phone numbers and what seemed like my whole life history which was entered into their computer database while they did one of there 756,000 point car checks. After reading nearly every Sports Illustrated on their coffee table I was called into the garage by one of their mechanics (who had the look on his face like he was about to tell me that my parent's just died in a car wreck) that my car was in dire need of work and that he was shocked it was even still running. They told me that I needed extensive brake work and a new Ypipe. I then was told that all the work would cost over $2,500!!! I then took my car to my friend who is a mechanic who told me that they had basically tried to pull a fast one on me and that I really only needed about $150 worth of parts and could install everything myself. This was the longest oil change I have ever had and they didn't even change my oil filter. Overall I would say just go the Valvoline, Jiffy Lube, etc. read more

Well. My muffler fell off and I was pretty desperate. I sort of randomly decided to go to Tuffy to get my repairs done. Everyone I delt with was nice and courteous and they were able to fit me in the next day for the repair. The mechanic told me that he had shopped around for the best deal for the muffler which was the only reason why he couldn't get me in for the same day. I only gave 4 stars because (after talking to some people) I suspect that I may have paid a lot more than I should have ($358 for a new muffler?). Pros: - Friendly staff - Clearly explained/showed me the problem(s) found in my car - Work was performed in a timely manner Cons: - On the pricey side - Felt like I was getting the run around. I asked for my brakes to be fixed. They found other problems (which I was already aware of) and tried to pressure me into getting those fixed at the same time as well. I had to repeat myself three times that I only wanted the brakes fixed before he finally listened. - Inaccurate estimate given. After we went over the estimate, I received a phone call an hour later saying that he forgot to add a third labor charge (of a $100) on the estimate. - My car came back smelling like cigarette smoke. read more

Just this week, my car was in desperate need of an oil change and tire rotation, and even though they were down two technicians this week, Russ worked out a way to get my car in the next morning, did the oil change and rotation himself (along with the owner), and the work was done early in the morning and ready for me to pick up by my requested time. My brakes blew out and I was leaving on a trip to St. Louis the next day. I needed my car to be looked at fast, but everywhere was all booked up. I called Tuffy even though I had never heard of them and the got me in that day. Everyone who looked at my car was extremely honest about what exactly the problem was. They even brought me out and showed me what the problem was and gave me a few ways to fix it. I went to my local tuffy and paid for the used car inspection which was suppose to be a complete inspection and they said I had a wheel bearing and hub assembly that was shot on my car. They told me it was going to be $500 to fix these parts and my car would be fine after that. I left there and drove my car to the local chevy dealership and had my ASE mechanic look at my vehicle. He showed me where it was a control arm and a destroyed ball joint that was causing the problem. I repaired them as well as replacing the wheel bearing and hub assembly and it ended up costing me double what the Tuffy shop originally told me for what was wrong with my vehicle. I called my Tuffy to let them know that they did not preform the work that I requested and I felt they did not do a thorough job diagnosing what was actually wrong with my vehicle and when I did was treated rudely like they did nothing wrong. They said "they said the only work that was needed on my vehicle" and when I seen the ball joint it was completely worn away. It is like they only found one thing wrong and stopped there when they thought they could get some repairs done. I paid for the full inspection and when I did not receive it, I feel like I was the bad guy asking why did i pay for a service I did not receive. Then when I asked for the District Managers phone number the owner of the Tuffy told me to go online and google it, that he did not have it. I doubt that. I would not go anywhere near this business because I see that they don't care about the customer, they care about how much money they can get off the customer. read more

Will rip you off! My son goes to ISU and was having a problem with his diver side front brake. Tuffy quoted $760 for one caliper one rotor and one pad! I thought that was way too high and called m guy here in Naperville and he said it should be about $450. Checked around and got it done at Baird for $485 and that included pads on both sides.
