Got a new set of tires here and had a strange thing happening with my car. Very intermittent. They drove it, couldn't get it to do anything. Tested diagnostics for $46ish...couldn't find anything and told me we can't fix it unless we get it to do it when our tech is driving it. Okay fine. No worries. Started doing it a little more frequently. I called them back two weeks later. Told me to bring it in even though they said it sounded like a transmission issue which they don't handle. But we're insistent that I should bring it in even when I suggested maybe I should bring it elsewhere since they don't handle the problem they guessed. Literally all they needed to do was drive the thing for :45 min and it would have done it. They didn't. So again they couldn't find the problem but AGAIN they run the same diagnostic and bill me another $46!?? Seriously? You said unless you get it to do it you CANT fix it. But you run another diagnostic even though you know you can't fix it AND you just did it two weeks ago? And the best is I rode my bike 12 miles to pick it up assuming there wasn't going to be a charge...there was and they wouldn't give me my car. So I had to ride 12 miles back him to call a Lyft. If you need any tune-up service or new tires, I highly urge you to patronize Don Owen. The owner donates so much money to community organizations, and there are always coupons floating around. The service is quick and thorough for whatever you request, but they don't do extras like wash your car or whatnot. Stopped in today on a trip from Chicago because my battery died on Empire St. I realized it was probably just corrosion, but didn't have any tools. They cleaned up my battery posts and didn't try to sell me a new one. I saw that minimum inspection charge was $35. They only charged me $10 and sent me on my way. Thanks guys! read more

I have been trusting the people at Don Owen Tire for not just tires, but for all the repairs my cars have needed for the past 6 years. They are always very friendly and professional. They listen to my questions and needs, and set me up with the best solutions. I want to emphasize that they treat EVERYONE with respect. I have been other places where they asked for my husband so they could explain the car's needed repairs. I find that attitude highly insulting. I will not give my business to a place like that at all. In St. Louis there is an award for car sales and repair places based on their fair and respectful treatment of women. I had a problem with my van not idling properly. Another service place I took it to did not fix the problem. I made an appointment with DonOwens on Empire to see if they could fix this and also my air conditioner had stopped working. They very efficiently fixed both problems and called me several times during the day to let me know what they had found. I will be using them for any future problems. I bought 4 new tires less than a year ago. They gave me a folder and a warranty book but apparently I did not pay $40 on my bill of over $1000 (brakes plus 4 new tires) for road hazard coverage. So, the big nail in my tire was not fixable and I am out an expensive tire. It is very confusing because they wrote my name on the back of the folder but did not record the tire numbers as required (they say). My invoice didn't have it either. So, I guess I didn't buy the road hazard insurance but I thought I had at the time. They gave me a free used tire but it is not near the quality of a new tire. They should just charge you a little more each time you buy a tire and include road hazard insurance automatically. That is what you really need, not the defective tire limited warranty from the manufacturer that nobody ever really uses. They were a little condescending to me about the issue as if I was trying to scam them but I really thought I had bought the right warranty only to find out I did not. Anyway, because of the condescension, I may not go back. Their warranties are apparently no better than any other place and they don't explain the road regular limited warranty exceptions well at all. Do the customer a favor and just charge the road hazard automatically when they buy a tire. That might not work for commercial fleets but for the everyday customer, you need the road hazard. Long story short, I ended up feeling very disappointed with them since it seemed they thought I was trying to scam them. I offered to pay for the tire repeatedly but they gave it to me because I was mad. I would have gladly avoided the whole anger/disappointment thing if they had an automatic road hazard warranty. As a young woman, I am usually aprehensive about dealing with any car problems on my own. After leaving another tire place feeling like they were trying to pull on over on me (I was told my tire could not be patched, I would need a new one), I went to Owen and they fixed my tire without problem. Their price was lower than the original place I had gone to. And most of all, considering I was shaking with anger from leaving the original place, they were very kind to me, respected me as a customer, and I felt like I was being treated right. I took my car in about a year ago because the air conditioning was not getting very cold. I was told it was the compressor/condenser? needed to be replaced. They said they fixed it and sent me on out the door. On my way home, the ac started making a noise so I immediately turned around and went straight back to Owen Tire & Auto. They said the part ordered was faulty. They ordered a new part, installed it and I went my way. Almost a year later I noticed the AC was no longer cooling and took it back. They said all the freon had leaked out and found that they had not adjusted some clamps correctly during the initial installation. Said they fixed it but car once again lost freon and that's when they put dye in to find some sort of leak. They said it was the evaporator and that they were unable to replace it because it requires taking the entire dash apart. I called Maas Radiator for a second opinion and they said to bring it in. The AC specialist there said that Owen Tire & Auto had incorrectly installed a tube which caused the dye to spray all over the interior of my car where the engine is located and that eventually could have worn a hole in the evaporator due to the pressure from the improperly installed hose. Funny Owen Tire & Auto never mentioned or saw this. Maas did a complete diagnostic and said the evaporator was fine and that a tube installed by Owen Tire & Auto was the problem, so they not only cleaned up the dye but fixed it and filled it with freon again and now it is working perfectly. The technician from Maas took me outside and showed me exactly where the problem was and where the dye had sprayed all inside my car. It costs a lot of money anywhere from 800 to 1000 dollars to replace an evaporator because labor is so expensive due to removing and reinstalling the entire dash to get to it. The part itself is relatively inexpensive. Maas did not charge me a single penny for the work done because they were shocked about my experience with Owen Tire & Auto. Owen Tire & Auto should stick to selling tires only. I do not recommend Owen Tire & Auto to anyone, ever!! They are totally incompetent and dishonest. read more

I had a bad experience with Owen. They managed to squeeze me in to get 4 new tires and a realignment the day I called. We told them to lock the keys in the car since we were not able to pick it up during business hours. When we got to the car it had rained and someone had left the sunroof open, so we had standing water in our car. My wife and I were sure we did not leave the sunroof open and even if we did, they should have closed it when they finished. In addition, the doors were not locked when we got to the car. When prompted, the manager scantily apologized and said the person working on the car said they did not leave the doors unlocked or open the sunroof. I was not asking for a monetary refund (even though I could have since my leather seats were soaked), but I was expecting more of a apology and definitely more than "there is nothing else we can do". I will not be doing any repeat business with them. read more
